visit 25/10/2021: great use of the National Trust Family membership again (pays for itself after a few visits). Definitely family friendly and can take the buggy/pram around with ease. Went for the blackwater walk and not disappointed by the quality views. Lots of parking and great weather on the day. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Argory has some lovely walks around the grounds that are not challenging or long and include walking along side the river Blackwater. National Trust entrance includes a tour of the house (make sure you book the tour on arrival). Pleasant Courtyard area includes ‘The light box’ room for children, Cafe, Blackwater Books and toilets. All beside a good spacious carpark.

The Argory is such a relaxing place. Really enjoy taking a stroll in spring time to see all the beautiful flowers and the rose garden. I also loved visiting the inside of the building, the guide was really helpful and passionate.

Enjoyed our visit today and spent 2.5 hours between the house tour (40 minutes on the hour), garden, cafe, book shop (purchased 2 used books at good value) and grounds. Walk along the river is pleasant. Play park for children. 6.50 each adult non member is good value

What an overlooked gem! The grounds are beautiful, but the house and its furnishings are just astonishing. The tour guides in the house were knowledgeable and engaging, able and happy to answer any questions. The quality of restoration and maintenance of the building itself, but especially the furnishings and even personal items throughout the house, was simply impeccable.

Elegant building, beautiful gardens and charming green spaces. Our favorite feature was our walk along the river.

Love this place! Brought a picnic and some snacks for the kids. The playpark is brilliant and the kids loved the mud kitchen so muxh! Will definitely be back with puddlesuits and wellies next time! There are balance bikes to hire out and a lovely walk by the river and garden areas. A great place all round for a trip out with the family. Lovely to see a forest school site for the children to explore while passing.

Lovely setting by the River Blackwater. Couple of walks through the grounds. Charming courtyard home of small second hand bookshop and cafe. House tour is interesting. Plenty of space as well as a small play area for children.

Great place to visit for that longer run and different adventure. After you leave the motorway the signs could be better so watch out. Nice little cafe and a well stocked bookshop which is obviously well supported by the community judging by the amount of money it brings in. Only two walks but they are very scenic and take in most of the estate. You get tickets at reception for the house tour and they are on a timed basis. Gardens are well looked after and there are good plants for sale. Well worth a visit.

An amazing place, beautiful place to spend some time. And the most special thing is the staff everyone is so welcome 🤗. And friendly. Thank you for a lovely tour of the house.

Lovely day out at the Argory. I took the kids, 8 and 12. They both enjoyed the house tour and the play area. There was a decent size cafe at regular NT prices 🤷 and a couple of great walks. I think you could do this tour and gardens in under half a day so have a good itinerary planned out for the remainder. As usual for NTNI very friendly well trained staff. Definitely worth a visit. We will be returning again to have a tinkle on the Steinway

Quite nice, but small compared to other national trust properties (it is cheaper though). You have to book a time for a house tour (you don’t have to do this in advance). The play park is quite good. There was only one toilet in operation for the whole place, as the others are being fixed up. I’m sure it would be a problem on a busy Saturday. The cafe is what you would expect, but the service was SO slow. There was one staff member doing her best and another who seemed to be doing random tasks inefficiently.

What a lovely spot this is. Four generations of the Bond family lived in this wonderful estate and in the 1970's Mr Bond bequeathed it to The National Trust. Where do you have an opportunity to see a house where a man lives to the end of his days with gas lighting and a wind up gramophone?

Great value day out with the family. Volunteers do a great job with tours, etc. Recommend the house tour and the walk around the estate.

Lovely house and grounds. Easy, 1 hour or so, walk round the estate including a stretch of the river. House tour is well worth it. Our guide, Barbara, was lovely and had lots of facinating information to share. The best weather possible also helped 😀

Absolutely beautiful place for either a walk with family friends or out for a bit of peace and quiet and stroll around the walk ways and popular with dog walkers. It has great fishing spots along the banks which is always busy when the fish move up river but no matter what day you go your always guaranteed a good days fishing as it always produces good fish which myself and fellow fishing friends have most times we've been there. Would highly recommend this lovely place for either a days fishing or just a family stroll after dinner or just to get out and enjoy the peace tranquility of the place 👍👍

A beautiful nature walk and historic building. Great for a family day out - great walks, a serene environment, lovely and friendly staff, good parking space, easy access for all, and most of all, great for a picnic! 😁

I have been to the Argory before and it hasn't changed which is wonderful! The lady who did the house tour was both friendly and professional at the same time and was also very knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit, plenty to do especially ones sunny day.

Lovely place to visit for a stroll round the gardens. The interior of the house is very impressive and there is coffee available with a small bookshop.

The Argory has surprised me twice over. Firstly, there are a number of lovely walks through the woodland and along the river Blackwater. And secondly, the house having just reopened after the Covid pandemic closures, the interior is also fantastic. It has lots of the original furniture that the family that used to live here left for the National Trust, and kind of feels like they just left yesterday.

  • 5/5 Ryan M. 3 years ago on Google
First time here and was delighted at the lovely walks and gardens still available during the covid related times. Main house was open for timed tours but we didn't go. As with all national trust properties you need to pre book a visit, but it's well worth it!

We had an excellent day. Took a lovely walk even with the damp weather. Got to go around some of the downstairs of the house. We were given guide sheets with information about the rooms. Had coffee, sausage roll, sandwich and a bun at the Coffee Shop. Everywhere clean and tidy, a detailed 1 way system and hand sanitizer.

The history and the house are interesting. We had a lovely dander leisurely along the Lime Tree Walk, some of which is beside the Blackwater river.

This is a small but beautiful National Trust property. The house isn't big, but it is worth paying for a tour. The grounds are nice with a few walks, but they are not very long. My favourite walk is the board walk through the swampy forest. The reason the Argory does not get a 5 star rating is because the forest is populated by grey squirrels, an invasive species in Ireland which has a very adverse effect on the native red squirrels - basically greys out-compete them for food and kill them with the squirrel pox virus which they carry without adverse effect on themselves. The National Trust as a responsible landowner and a conservation charity should be actively trapping and culling greys as they do at their property Mountstewart on the Ards Peninsula.

What an amazing story that goes with the national trust taking this lovely property over.. Thank you Mr Bond.. Amazing tour guide and what a great house, I do love seeing some of the trusts properties being left as they found them. A must see if you're in the area

Grounds and house are fabulous, however, if you simply wish to have a cup of tea and say, a basic non fruit scone, the scone will cost £1.95, which is fine, but add some jam and it'll cost quite a bit more, which is a pity, because even the most basic cafes have the little cartons of jams available for free. Should you wish to go the whole package and include cream, this very basic and I mean basic scone will now cost you £3.20 !!....Visit the T2 cafe in Bow Street Mall and you can get a fantastic large scone, with umlimited jam and cream for £1.80 !!!...Okay, so walking around lisburn isn't quite so pleasant ??
