Even from the street, the Craiova Art Museum beckons with its architecture everyone who comes to the city! And when I went inside, I continued to admire the beauty of the interior. The museum is housed in the Constantin Mihail Palace. This palace was built from 1898 to 1907 according to the plans of French architect Paul Gottereau and belonged to a member of one of the richest families in Romania. The palace is decorated with Carrara marble stairs, Murano glass chandeliers, painted ceilings, partly gilded stucco, and Venetian mirrors, that delight every visitor. The collection is not very large, but it shows how an art developed in Romania from the 18th to the early 20th century. There is the gallery dedicated to Constantin Brâncuși.  It also has a variety of paintings by Romanian masters such as Nicolae Grigorescu, Theodor Aman, Vasile Popescu, Ștefan Luchian, and Theodor Pallady, together with some Romanian icons. I recommend art lovers to visit this museum, when you visit Romania.

It is a particularly interesting museum that houses true masterpieces, treasures of national art. Here you can find a series of original paintings by Romanian masters, Aman, Grigorescu, Luchian and others. The museum itself is very well maintained and some rooms have extraordinary interiors.

Decently sized collection in a beautiful building. Downstairs there’s a contemporary art display and several pieces by Constantin Brancusi, and upstairs each room is dedicated to one of the masters of Romanian painting (Aman, Grigorescu, Toniza and others). The curatorial texts (on stands next to the doors of every room) are very good. Photos are allowed, and there is a coat check at the entrance.

A beautiful museum full of art! The building itself is impressive, but if you consider that it houses works by Aman, Brâncuși and many Romanian artists, it is definitely worth a visit!

Altogether a very disappointing experience. I was born and raised in Craiova, visited the Art Museum numerous times and lived unique moments there from extraordinary exhibitions and events. Regretfully, my visit on 22 Jan was the exact opposite of any other past experience. Reasons for this: 1) a dreadful exhibition on the entire first floor titled "La cuisse de Marcel." Terrible display, a shame really. 2) far too many gardians, overwhelming the visitor at every step, no room for personal space or even breathing. Again, a very disappointing experience, heartbreaking for me.

Shaping the artistic culture of Romania, the paintings of Carol Popp de Szatmary, Nicolae Grigorescu, Theodor Pallady and Ion Țuculescu accompany a Sculpture Gallery dedicated to the world famous Constantin Brâncuși where Mademoiselle Pogany can be seen. I highly suggest visiting this one, not only for the art but for the building which is by itself impressive (NB: they only accept cash)

Very nice museum first of all! I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Titus Popovici( I hope I spelled right his name) who explained me the history and how the museum of Brancusi was created. Fantastic man, pasioned by his job and with a fantastic knowledge! Tip: when you go - meet him to have THE EXPERIENCE! The ladies who work there are stalkers. Do not know anything about the exponates. The only phrase that they know is : "do not touch something" ... Awful! Such a big difference of iq and education between employees.. Also in the big museum there is a small and fat guy who is manager or something, he is screaming all the time to put somebody to do someting. I loved more the underground museum tham the big museum just because of the staff.

Oltenia Museum is one of the richest and most beautiful museums in Romania, an important centre of scientific and cultural life. It is also the most representative cultural institution in Wallachia. The Oltenia Museum in Craiova is one of the richest and most beautiful museums in Romania, an important centre of scientific and cultural life. It is the most representative cultural institution in Wallachia, carrying out its activity in three different sectors: Archaeology and History, Ethnography and Natural Sciences. On April 1st 1915, a Regional Museum of Antiquities and Ethnography was founded in the building of the Administrative Palace (now housing the County Hall). The Archaeology Section enclosed epigraphic monuments from the Dacian-Roman period, Dacian-Roman, Romanian and primitive prehistoric antiquities, Romanian religious antiquities, old documents, photographs, medals and Dacian, Greek, Roman and Romanian coins. Ethnographic material collected from the country’s villages, such as old Wallachian clothes and traditional costumes or carved wooden household tools, were exhibited in the Ethnography Section (now housed in Casa Băniei). Since 1928, the Regional Museum of Antiquities and Ethnography conjoined with the Natural History Museum, giving birth to the Regional Museum of Oltenia. Nowadays, the building hosting Oltenia Museum’s headquarters, the monumental Ramuri Palace, also houses the Archaeology and History Section. Here, visitors can enjoy over 20 collections counting approximately 110,000 cultural items, from coins and medals to documents, ceramics, inscriptions, weapons, jewelry, manuscripts, old books, photographs, military objects and newspapers. All these artifacts have been donated by or purchased from great personalities of the Romanian culture and history, such as Iancu Jianu, Mihail Kogălniceanu, Theodor Aman, Traian Demetrescu, Alexandru Macedonski, Nicolae Romanescu or Nicolae Titulescu. Based on this valuable and varied cultural heritage, the museum presents, in a modern vision, the historical destiny of Wallachia, the contribution of this region to the national rebirth and shaping of the Greater Romania.

Nice museum, however, lacked descriptions for the works of art in English. This is a minor point, however, felt worthwhile to point out for those visiting that do not speak or read Romanian. Overall, a good experience with some very nice pieces. I think the building itself made the visit worthwhile. Photography was allowed of all the art work provided no flash was used.

The architecture and interiors of the building are impressive. Unfortunately the collection isn't that interesting, good works, but only a few of them are actual works of art, other paintings from other painters shouldn't be in there (just trash painters with no style or skill). The staff was horrible. I couldn't admire those few paintings that are worth it because they were always behind me following me around, no explanations for the works, for the building, for anything. Staff should be fired at once (trash people sitting cosy on public money).

A remarkable art museum of international standing in a French style city-centre chateau. Unique collections. Impermanent as well as permanent exhibitions. The building itself is worth admiring: Oltenia, traditionally known as the "Breadbasket of Europe" with Craiova as its capital, attracted wealthy regional landlords who traded with their Turkish neighbours to the south and west and built grand homes for themselves in the city and the surrounding countryside.

A nice looking place, brought down by the menu (almost identical to the Ciobanasul menu on the other side of the park, but more expensive) and music, none of which creates the adequate atmosphere for how the environment looks.

Although the building itself has a great aesthetic, I am dissapointed by the fact that I have never seen the restaurant opened during neither summer nor winter.

This seems an abondanded caste near to suspended bridge.. We can not go inside as it is closed. If you want you can take pic of it from outside. However it is one of the place which can see at the park where suspended bridge is there at craiova

(Translated by Google) A superb location, prompt service, works in bar mode, "thin" range of products but if you do not have exaggerated preferences, you have something to consume. From what I noticed, I also serve pizza, but I bring it from elsewhere, I don't make it there. In any case, I spent a very pleasant hour or two there. Once again the 10+ rating for the location! P.S. clean toilet! P.S. wc curat!

A really nice place to visit and amazing things to see for this it deserves 5 stars but I give it only 3 stars because it is not that welcoming. The gates are almost all the time closed, no signs to guide you to the entrance, no signs to show the open and close time of the museum, not enough marketing. If I were a tourist I would most certainly skip it because of lack of information and publicity, which is a shame.

Good museum in a wonderful looking small palace, well curated with plenty of background and explanations in Romanian, a bit dark and stuffy but totally worth the entrance fee, one of the best sites of the city

A place worth seen not only for the paintings, but also for the interior and exterior architecture of this very beautiful building!

👍👍 Went to the superb Water Park in Parcul Tineretului: clean, beautiful place, plenty of slides for the younger ones, can go for a swim as well without being disturbed, clean toilets and changing facilities near the entrance. Overall, excellent. 40 lei entrance fee on a week day, unlimited time.

😠 I was absolutely shocked and honestly horrified by the way these poor poor animal are kept. They are left in the baking hot sun with practically no shade. They mostly seemed very skinny and sickly. The whole experience was awful to say the least. I truly hope that these animals are eventually freed....
