This is not a discount lumber shop at all. They have a great variety and honestly they may be the only place in the area for some species but the main hardwoods like walnut, maple, etc are 1 to 3 $ more per linear foot than larger (non big box) lumber yards in the metro. I'd say if you are looking for cut offs or really exotic wood this is worth a look but for any project of any size there are better options for your money.

They have an amazing collection of hardwoods both exotic and domestic but it is far from being a discount. They run $3-$5 more a board foot over other local suppliers on the 3 species i have recently purchased elsewhere, that includes the milling. They also sell wood by the pound which seems odd, confusing and a lot of messing around when trying to calculate if its a good deal or not. Good spot to go in an emergency but if you have time there are other more cost effective places to shop.

I reached out via email for a quote on a custom-sized section of unfinished walnut butcher block. I received a quick response, paid over the phone and picked up the section a few days later. Their company name is deceiving. While the place is not big, they have a wide variety of beautiful exotic woods. I installed the section of countertop, oiled it up and the finished product turned out wonderful. I could not be happier with my purchase or transaction with Discount Lumber Outlet.

My new favorite place to go. Recently started woodworking as a hobby and didn’t know of any places to get hobby lumber or some exotic species of wood that you can’t get at Home Depot or large retail stores. This place has everything and more I could ask for. Andy has helped me a few times with selecting wood and a few pointers that have helped me quite a bit. If you need wood of all different kinds of lengths or widths, especially some exotic species this is the best place to get it and at great prices. Thank you!

Been a handful of times and they've always been nice and helpful. A lot of cool exotic stuff. They've got walnut scraps by the pound which can be a great deal if you just want smaller pieces of accents and whatnot. Pretty much my first stop if I need some lumber for fine woodworking where the normal Home Depot or Menards garbage won't cut it.

Picked up a bunch of Windsor One craftsman trim for my home. Tim was great to work with and the price was at substantially lower than anyone else in town that could get it. Will be buying more shortly.

Discount Lumber has amazing quality of all different types and styles of wood. Our company buys all our wood from here. They can mill anything your looking for within a few days. The owner and staff are really nice guys. The prices are great and generally less than the big stores. I would recommend them to anyone because of their quality of product and prices!

I want to echo what others have said regarding the pricing. I can't comment on their other services, but their prices for lumber are hardly "discount." Items there often cost 2x - 3x as much as a higher quality board does at other locally owned businesses. You have to do the math to figure it out, because they do pricing by linear foot (??) instead of board foot, so it can be a little deceiving.

Great place to find wood at low prices. Also they have unique woods that you won't find just anywhere!

This place is a hidden gem that I recently discovered nestled in my own backyard. I am a hobby woodworker and was in need of a large board foot order (200 BF) of cherry. I am taking on the task of building new cabinets for my home and have never really needed this much rough wood at one time before. I stopped by a few other suppliers in the metro prior to finding Discount Lumber. I felt they were treating me as a nusence to them. I quickly realized that they catered to businesses and didn’t care much for my measly 200 BF order. This was just the opposite with DLO. My wife and I stopped into their office about 10 minutes to closing time. The owner greeted us with a smile and then went on to showing us a tour of his building. At no point did we feel rushed by Dick or his staff. We were able to order the wood we wanted that evening. The order was ready for pickup a few days later just as promised. Also, the prices were great too!! I am completely satisfied with my purchase and will be back in the future for other projects. (After I build the cabinets of course) Thanks Dick!

I am basing this review mostly on the service I got. I bought the end cuts by the pound. There many sizes to choose from. I mostly make spoons and kitchen utensils. Cherry, black walnut, maple and hickory is what I got. Andy was very helpful ada treated me right even though I only spent $15 this time. I don't have space for a lot of wood so small pieces helps. I really don't know if there prices on board foot is cheaper than others but knowledge and customer service is worth it.

Reviews that are telling you they have great prices haven't been to other hardwood lumber suppliers. Great selection yes but they're considerably more expensive than Siweks or Renebergs.

I am a novice wood worker that is just getting started with some simpler projects, like cutting boards. I went into Discount Lumber with some ideas in my head, but not exactly sure what I would need. The employees were extremely helpful and took the time to talk me through the project and offered advice on techniques, lumber, using my newly purchased planer and words of encouragement. I brought my 7 year old and 4 year old with me, who can be a handful sometimes at stores. The employee was so good with them and helped keep their attention by hiding little pre-wrapped candies around the shop that they had to hunt around to find. Discount Lumber is a great example of a local business that is operated by people that care about their customers and community. I highly recommend them and will continue to be a patron and support this wonderful local establishment.

I suppose like any place, there are pros and cons here. Not sure yet the word "Discount" belongs in the name. They sell by the LINEAR foot and not by the industry standard BOARD foot. When i got home and did the math.... i paid a premium price. So that's the bad. On the plus side, the guy there was friendly. They have a nice selection. Most of their lumber is S4S, which DOES command a higher price than rough cut or SLR. So in sum... 1. Nice people 2. Nice selection of quality lumber 3. Some rare species 4. Bring multiple credit cards, you're gonna need them.

Nice selection of domestic and exotic woods. Prices are great, and the staff will work to get you want you want if it's not in stock. Staff are knowledgeable about the woods, the pros and cons of each. For woodworkers, this is a great place.

This was a great find. They are a small place but had such an array of wood to choose from. So happy to find this place and process are very reasonable as well. If say if you're looking for something special, go check them out.

Terrible customer service

Great selection of unique lumber. Owner was very friendly and helpful. I don't know much about wood working and he was very patient with my questions.

I ordered a custom made butcher block piece from Andy at Discount Lumber. We used it to build a bar. The communication was superb and the whole process was very easy. Andy made recommendations based on our needs and the wood looks great!

If I could give zero stars I would. I don't even know where to start with this! I ordered some replacement baseboards to match my existing ones as well as a couple hundred feet of base shoe. Tim reassured me they would be ready by Wednesday no problem. Wednesday came and I called to make sure my order was ready. I was told that they were running behind and it would be ready Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon I called to make sure my order was ready before heading over. Once again I was told that it was not, but it would be ready first thing in the morning Friday. Friday morning we went to pick up....wood but no stain. Tim promised he would personally stain it that night for us so that we could have it for our install on Saturday morning. 9:30 Friday night we still had not heard any updates. We called Tims cell and he told us it would not be done until Saturday....which was not helpful because at that point we had to cancel install. Monday, I picked up the order which I was not charged for thank goodness. Upon arriving home, only the baseboards had been stained and not the base shoe. The stain was also a bright yellow, totally different from my existing baseboards. Upon calling Tim he told me to try another coat of stain because the stain he gave me matched perfectly. The second coat of stain made it worse! I emailed multiple pictures to show how off the color was and asked how to resolve the issue. I have sent two emails as well as called and Tim is choosing not to respond or attempt to fix the problem. Legitimately one of worst and most frustrating experiences I have EVER had with a business.
