Nice park and great for a hike any season. Lots of parking. Next to Chatfield and Waterton Canyon. Ponds, creekside and lots of trees and foliage as well as birds.

Beautiful, peaceful place to take your time and observe nature. Wonderful birding area! You can connect to Waterton Canyon as well. I'm so glad this place exists!

Been here a few times to bike and walk. Always surprised there's no nature center building to walk in and no paper maps/map signs. Good parking. A word of warning; we saw a mountain lion attacking a snake on one of the more isolated trails. I've never run so fast.

Such a beautiful place full of dedicated, knowledgeable people and very informative and fun programs. You can visit early or late at a chance to see various critters from waterfowl to deer, trails are well managed and is dog friendly if you keep them on the leash, there are also two restrooms managed by the park that are open. There is also bird banding programs which was an amazing experience that is a must to attend at least once in your life to see a bird so up close and personal.

Since dogs are not allowed in Waterton Canyon, if you are already there is a nice place with easy hiking that will take you into Chatfield Lake.

Much nicer than the main reservoir and quiet trails. South Platte river runs through this wildlife refuge. Hiking, fishing, birding, picnicking and tubing are all summertime favorites at this location

Perfect place for a quiet early morning hike. We walked north and looped back around next to the Platte River!

This part of Chatfield State park doesn't get near the traffic as reservoir area. Love the ponds and river walk

The place for bird watching and bird photography! Nice parking lot with public bathrooms, lots of shade and stroller friendly trails. Those who love nature, should visit at least once.

Great native plants garden, good information on the local geography and wildlife - all posted outside. I've never been here when there's staff, but I've still learned a lot and had a good time. There's many hidden little spots back behind those buildings, so make sure to leave time to explore the area around them, either before or after heading off for a nature walk on the well marked trails. Recently we saw a few mule deer and three kinds of birds when we just stopped to use the restrooms for five minutes!

This is a little gem, that is or appears to be under appreciated. Plenty of parking and access to trails that go all the way around the lake or up to the dam in Watertown Canyon.

Beautiful trails, ponds and The Platte River runs through it.
