The spa has been closed for so long now - 9 months +. I'm wondering if it will ever open again, the project obviously hasn't been managed well. When I enquired there are no deadlines given. Considering the membership cost I'd expect a better experience and customer service.

I am been using this gym for a very long time nearly 6 years. A year ago I took a break for few months and re-joined the club. Now I am moving house further away from the gym and working from home most of the day. It takes nearly an hour to get the gym every day and I decided to cancel the gym membership. Because I re-joined the gym and I'm on a 12 month contract, there is a cancellation fee of $300. Now, I do understand about the cancellation fee, but the reason I cannot use the gym anymore is I live too far and I do not have any business to come into the city. I would love to continue using the gym if I visit city often. The reason for cancellation is not because I don't like the gym but because of not able to use the gym in the future. I would have appreciated if the management looked at the members/customers point of view and reconsidered the cancellation fee. You talk about priority to the members first but not in my case.

You may think by paying too much you will get a better service, cleaner club, less overcrowded and Better conditions. But this is not the case. Once you are committed, they will squeeze you. All you have to do give them your credit card number. Game over!

Overpriced and the staff are arrogant and rude, especially Aleks who speaks down to clients. Not the gym to go to if you’re looking for a personal or welcoming experience. Classes are always booked out well in advance and the gym feels more like an advertisement for a fancy yoga brand that it does a place to get fit and improve your health.

This place is horrible dirty worst customer service you could imagine only interested in getting your money went 3 times and that was it ...staff members with bad attitude, dirty lockers dirty bathrooms, rude members And the list goes on and on ... took a trail period asked for my money back they said the manager would call ... still waiting ! Very disappointed

Location and facilities - Just like normal gym, Some equipments are wear out already from excessive use. Worst case, customer service and care is not there. Once you lost the personal belonging you will never get back as stuffs are simply not working and just standing and chatting at the entrance counter. I'd requested a favour to check my lost towel 10 mins later i left the gym at 1.30 PM over the phone, stuff named, Loren said she is busy and not to worry. Then next day they just simply said "not found" thats sort of customer service you will get for paying extra $$$.

I was the membership here for 8 years . Very disappointed in their new management team . Stuff are not trained very well . This year I tried to rejoin the gym again , the stuff couldn't handle one small mistake that is made by them , they made me stand outside for 30 min . Not how I want to be treated as an 8 years membership . Do not recommend it .

The staff are extremely rude. My membership started during lock down. When the gyms opened they decided to not open Barangaroo club (my home club) and not even bother letting me know. While still charging my account. Then I transferred to Pitt st. I was never given a proper introduction of the club. Each time I go to reception to ask any questions the they tell me to “go back to Barangaroo”.

Virgin Active Pitt Street is one of the best gyms I have ever been too hands down. I have tried numerous other gyms before but they just don't hit the mark like Virgin does. From the minute you enter the gym, you are greeted by a lovely and bubbly front of house team which sets off a positive tone to your gym session. The array of gym classes are second to none and there are classes always on from morning to night. The instructors for me is what gives the overall top rating. They take time in getting to know you and motivate you throughout your class. They show that they truly care and they help guide you to ensure you have correct form and that you are steadily making progress. From Evelin with Spin classes to Chris & Kristian with Grid, to Jon & Xavier with boxing to the overall wider Virgin Pitt Street team, you guys are AMAZING! Thanks for all your help and support and thanks for helping me love the gym and love my fitness journey!

If you want to make a greedy billion richer then this is the place to join. Prices are high. There are far too many members for the equipment available. The last straw was waiting 40 minutes to use a bench press! If you want to get fit and be smart you'll take your money elsewhere.

I experienced a fraud here. The receptionist accused me saying “You need to do some exercise “ while I actually said “I need to do some exercise “. (Without any evidence/investigation) the club freezes my gym membership without giving back over $600 fees I already paid. This is not how a decent business makes profit. I am deeply disgusted by such behaviour. Not to mention, after the Sauna and jacuzzi broke down for 3months. They have not managed to even get anyone to look at it (according to 3 seperate staff). Hence, I do not recommend this club.

It used to be a good gym but the management seemed to change and it’s not maintained well. Not cleaned properly, especially female toilets, really messy, not sanitised, dirty marks everywhere, lockers are broken but the fee goes higher and higher. Thinking already about a new gym as this one is pricey but not worth it anymore.

They say they don't have enough staff. So the changing room had two large piles of used towels. The size of this gym is very good it has a very large floor plan which I think is great. The yoga studio is very beautiful. There is a wide selection of equipment. The spa is very nice however the jets are currently broken. The staff are very friendly and jovial. Needs more benches by the pool so people can put their things perhaps even some pigeon holes or open lockers. I heard that there were some but they rusted. The ceiling of the pool is rusting and peeling.

I never thought I'd be the kind of person who loves the gym but here we are! I was a complete newbie when I joined with little experience but I was made to feel comfortable right away. All of the instructors are fantastic and so dedicated to helping you live your best! The facilities are outstanding and it makes going to the gym an enjoyable experience. I work with the PT Lucas who is absolutely phenomenal at what he does and makes every session SO enjoyable! Highly recommend!

Virgin active has been the best gym I have ever been to. I tried other gyms before and in terms of variety/ quality of overall everything is always been 5 stars at Virgin Active. It’s all exclusive and luxurious. The staff is always professional but also friendly and smiley. I’ve always trained with my pt Lucas at Virgin Active Pitt street mall and our sessions always been fun. Even after I had a little injury from work we still continued training and he adjusted the exercises for my ability. I always feel comfortable going back to training with him or on my own. All staff and members are distinguished. It’s a bit of an investment but you get your money’s worth every time you enter Virgin Active.

Overall ok, but the swimming pool in the Pitt St Mall is very dirty, you can see large articles floating. I have reported this to staffs, however, they told me to fill in one form very indifferently. That was 3 months before, but there is not improvements so far surprisingly.

I was a member here for 1 year. The facilities are very nice and clean and big. The only problem was their location (for me, which is not their fault), and their hours. They close so early on the weekend (5PM). Even the weekdays they close at 10PM. In this day and age, most gyms are 24 hours. I guess they care primarily about the “9 to 5” group of people. But if the locations and hours are good for you, then it’s a good fit.

Joined Virgin active Pitt St 15 months ago (after lockdown). Definitely the best in CBD in terms of the facilities, staff and vibe! PT Lucas transformed my life. I was doing gym by myself before for 2 years and reached Lucas since working out at Virgin Active. He has very different programs for different goals and he recorded everything into his laptop every session. I think this is very helpful for my progress (see the photos attached). His passion, vibe and sense of responsibility surprised me. Now, I am having four sessions each week with Lucas, with new goals! I would definitely recommend him for everyone who's trying to get a better body and life!

I would give it a 5 but the “2 month” spa project took most of 2018 with the completion date constantly changing. I bulged a disc and needed the spa and even filled out the survey stating I needed it but no communication back. I paid day rates at another gym to use their spa while paying full rates at Virgin. I am back to normal now and my PT before the disc has been AWESOME helping me get back into while preventing injury. Anyway I like the gym and the staff is friendly for anyone thinking of joining. Shame the spa has left a black mark in my view.

Edit (2020/01/15): My rate was quite low although the overall quality was nice. So I've changed it. I went to this gym for 3 months and now I cancelled it: - Generally tidy gym, but except the bathroom. I never saw any staffs who clean there. Also the ceiling was quite dirty. (See the attached photo.) - The renovated changing rooms for men was worse than before. the downstairs' one was quite small but upstairs' one wasn't connected to the room of the pool. - One day I forgot my stuff in the gym. The day after that, I asked them but they didn't find it. It was disappointing that they even didn't try to check the record of CCTV although I explained where/when it happened. I even doubt they were actually looking for it. Sometimes I felt they were a little bit lazy and overbearing. Generally better than other cheap gyms. The fitness classes were nice. But I don't think the overall quality is worth the price.

Pretty good gym right in the middle of Pitt Street. Goos range of classes available at all times and I never have to wait too long for a machine. Equipment is in good condition and the place is clean. Haven't tried their PTs before but the ones I've seen look ok. Staff are friendly and professional.

I've been to a lot of gyms, and I think this one is the best. It's got a massive selection of group fitness classes with new equipment in clean rooms, with experienced instructors. It's very busy, but that's because it's in CBD. The change-rooms (currently being renovated) are big and have lots of places to get ready including hair dryers and straighteners. They even supply soap and shampoo. Great place. Finally I've found a nice gym that I look forward to visiting.

I've been going to Virgin Active Pitt St for over a year now. It's a clean gym with multiple sections. It has everything you need in a gym: free weights, powerlifting weights, weight machines, cardio machines and stretching zones. The best part of the gym is the multiple classes you can choose from. You do need to book classes in advance because they do fill up. But you can have upto 6 bookings at any one time. Prices are steep but it is a city gym with everything you could want in a gym. I haven't used the pool or rock climbing wall or sleep pods but it's good to know it's an option. I mainly use the weights, weight machines and go to the hot yoga classes. They also have classes at The Grid which are high intensity exercises where you move across stations (quite similar to a circuit class or F45). Virgin Active offers a lot of other classes ranging from boxing to barre/ballet to spin classes and aerobics. In terms of city gyms it's not as big as FF Bond St but I have never had to wait too long for equipment. The trainers are all very nice and walk around the gym floor so you can ask them for help or for questions. Prices are a little steep at $39/week for membership at Virgin Active but I go every day before work (sometimes during lunch time) and go to a lot of classes. Peak time is usually after work. With a few more Virgin Active gyms popping up in the city this year I'm happy to try them too

I am giving 5 starts only because of Evelin. Evelin does lunch Cycle Burn class on Wednesdays (and I think Tuesdays as well). She is always positive and full of energy which is so contagious. She knows how to motivate people and knows exactly how to push us to work harder. Evelin is a one of a kind instaructor that is hard to find and Virgin should be grateful to have her.

Asian girls better keep yourselves out of the pool as they tolerate sexual harassment to happen there. They had Caucasian male ‘regular visitor’ who weirdly rather stayed in the middle of your lane while all other lanes were empty and purposefully kicked you each time when you swam pass by and yelled at you asking ‘what’s your problem’ without a single word of apology when you politely asked him to stop doing so before leaving the pool hurriedly when muscular guy swimming near him. Their female staff sitting aside would just let you change a lane. It’s been a week and no formal written correspondence received from management team and I’ve developed fears towards its pool. Thank you so much Virgin Active.

Good location and equipment, also has a great selection of group classes. Overall, it is a good gym to go in the CBD area. But what I don’t like is that when you book a class, the email confirmation does not contain the class location. It took long time for me to find the room and was told that I could not join the class as I was 3 mins late.

I no longer go here as I don't work in the city anymore, but hands down the best gym I have ever been to. It started on Day 1: I was never pressured to sign a Contract. In fact I was given the opportunity to take it home, read through it and return when I was ready. This I've come to realise is the hallmark of a company that thinks about what is right for you AND them, not just them. The trainers are incredibly friendly, always helpful and the cafe stocks up on healthy (and tasty) snacks. There is so much variety in the gym - from rock climbing, swimming to playstation cycle bikes and then your (not so standard) classes and exercise equipment. They also have sleeping pods when you just need a little bit of sleep in the middle of a hard working day. The sauna and spa were also great to help unwind after a long day in the office or after a hard workout. I've never been a fan of gyms, but this is the only place that kept me coming back day after day (and no, not just for a nap!). I think what makes this place different is that one day you go there to work out, another for a cheeky nap, another to relax doing yoga or similar. You can make your days as unique as you want them to be and there is no pressure just to be on a machine sweating it out all the time (as good as that may feel). The female bathrooms come kitted out with hair straighteners, dryers, etc. which makes it incredibly easy to go for a workout before heading for a night out! Tip: Try and avoid peak hour to ensure more availability of facilities and freedom of movement.

I've just cancelled my membership and signed up at Fitness First where the front desk doesn't refuse entry to you because you are 2 mins late. Such a bitter ending to an otherwise wonderful experience for me. Let people be! People don't rush, sweat and show up to the gym to be late. We already have life expectations on us, gym entry should be the least of it.

Love the classes at this gym! Evelin’s cycle burn class is amazing and it is a spin class I actually look forward to each week! Her motivation and dedication to each person in the room gives the class a personal touch and pushes you that but further. Also, the yoga calm classes are perfect and just what I was looking for in terms of yoga. Nissa is a great instructor. Thank you both!!

Lucas is an excellent PT - his method works well. I have been trying to lose the 5 kgs I gained when I gave birth. After 3 years of trying to lose weight, I knew I needed helps as going to a gym doing my usual cardio work out was not working. After one a half month training under Lucas' expertise, I lost 5 kgs! Not only that - I gained more strength, gained more energy. Prior to doing the training, I felt tired everyday. Once I got into the training with him, I had more energy to work, play with my active toddler and work out!. I had the most productive sessions with Lucas - he brings results and he cares that I succeed in my fitness goal.

Virgin Active - Where do I start? It has been an amazing experience so far. I signed up two months ago and have been amazed at how you are being treated here. I had membership with other gyms but the experience is very different here. You are always welcomed with a smile. Maria is cheerful and always willing to help. The staff have been very helpful and supportive. The classes are great and the routine changes every week. Krissy, Grace and Lupa are great instructors and each class has been unique and challenging. They keep you motivated through out the session. Lovely of them to remember my name and guide me with every routine. The facilities are great and the area is very spacious. I highly recommend the gym to all my friends. Keep the good work!!

The membership comes at a premium price BUT when compared to the competition (*cough* FF) this gym is MILES better. The staff are friendly, the equipment is well stocked and maintained (e.g. several power racks and lifting platforms for the more serious weightlifters). The members are generally respectful and friendly too. I was a member for 8+ years and only quit due to job relocation. For sure if they open a gym in the eastern suburbs I'll join again :) The only downside is the weights area can get very busy during peak hours, but again, compared to the competition, it's still much better even in this respect!

I visited two Virgin Active gym and found that I prefer dealing with Genevieve from Virgin Active Pitt Street. She is pro-active and genuinely keen in assisting me to achieve my goal rather than selling me the membership. She knows the product she is selling very well and have given me the information I needed. After joining, she still keep constant contact with me and still helping me with any questions or assistance in need. The other reason of joining Virgin Active gym is also the cleanliness and hygiene. The equipment are wiped down frequently and the gym is clean.

I am not a member of this gym as such but the Swissotel are getting some refurbs done so the gym at the hotel is closed so they are working with Virgin to give hotel guests access. I wanted to say firstly what an awesome gym and the classes were amazing especially yoga. The staff are exceptional so friendly and accommodating nothing was too much trouble it was a pleasure to visit each day just to see the smiles and be greeted in such a friendly way. A great gym all round. Thank you so much for lovely week at your facility.

Very unfortunate to be served by a guy named Michael. New, young dude with slight curly brown hair and poor customer service. Happened around 6pm on 4th of May. He scanned me in and decided to process my payment as well. Then in the middle of the payment came 6 people wanting to go through the turnstile. Without even asking me he went ahead to let them in, and to my horror also take his time to chat with a few people too! When he finished I told him this is not acceptable and he needs to get his priority right. He said if I am not happy I can complain to Tim, the duty manager, who was actually standing there doing nothing to mitigate the situation. I mean, if someone has an attitude he or she shouldn’t serve at the front desk. Shocker.

Lucas is one of the best personal trainers at Virgin Active! He has been fantastic in helping me achieve my goals and progress my fitness journey. He is very professional, knowledgeable, and will push you to do your personal best. By working with Lucas, I have gained the confidence to use the equipment and work out on the gym floor. I also learnt how to complete exercises correctly and safely, build strength, and achieve my body recomposition goal to tone up for my wedding (to lose fat and gain muscle). The approach Lucas has extends beyond a program. Lucas is precise in measuring your progress each week, along with monthly weigh-ins at the gym. He ensures your exercises are executed safely, correctly, and efficiently to maximise your workout. Additionally, he is a great teacher by demonstrating specific exercises, and WHY doing things a certain way can help maximise outcomes for you. Outside of PT sessions at the gym, Lucas also has a holistic perspective on health. He will check in with you on your diet, stress, and sleeping habits (such as eating the right macros, consuming the appropriate calories to achieve your goals, going to the sauna, finding time to meditate). I find this a refreshing approach and encourages me to be more considered with my overall health and wellbeing. Overall, I cannot recommend Lucas enough! He is a vibrant, energetic, and positive person. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he has so much experience to share and help you be the best version of yourself!

Comfortably, the best gym in the CBD under $50 per week. (Trust me, I've tried them all). It simply has it all. Huge gym floor that covers almost every exercise (they need to get a seated calf raise machine). 25m pool, exercise bikes and treadmills for triathlon training (much needed during La Nina). Pilates, Yoga, HIIT classes to mix it up. Then a Sauna and Jacuzzi to recover. Sizeable, (mostly) clean locker room which cleverly connects to the pool, spa, sauna area. Can't ask for much more than that.

I have been training with Louis Settle from VirginActive for the past few years, initially online and now face-to-face. My brother originally introduced me to him and indeed he also still trains with Louis and I could not be any happier. I know that I would never have achieved the level of fitness and wellness I have at my age, if not for the personal attention given in my training sessions. Louis is always very encouraging and has a vast knowledge of his profession. I would recommend him in a heartbeat having also met and trained with a couple of the other trainers for over a decade now. I aim to continue to train and maintain a good level of fitness with his help for a long time to come.

This gym is great, no only because of it's great spaces and facilities. Yoga studio, plenty of cardio, weights, spa, bathrooms are well equiped and we'll maintained and the quality of the toiletries provided is also amazing. I'm such a fan of the brand!

Absolutely love the Reformer Pilates & Reformer Athletic classes with Elaine & Vera!! I used to do a range of classes from boxing to pump to Pilates however, the Mon & Wed Reformer classes have easily become my favorite. I’ve been the most consistent ever, since finding these instructors and it’s really paid off; I’m stronger, leaner and have now purchased a reformer to keep up the practice at home. My friend Laura now joins me for the 2 classes/week - we have such a great time. Thank you Elaine & Vera! Laura and I love your classes. Hayley x

I have been going to Virgin Active Pitt street for more than a year now. My overall experience is really good. Compared to others, it is very clean and has lots of rooms, good equipment and classes for everyone. It even has an indoor swimming, sauna and spa, which is so great for a city gym club. Location is also a plus. In addition, the staff are highly professional and effective problem solvers. I have been also working out with a personal trainer here, Kristian Boulter, for a year. He is professional and a know how trainer. He has helped me to achieve my weight gaining goal. Kristian is also a patient listener and is funny at the same time. We have had a lot of fund during our training sections. My experience has been very enjoyable and satisfactory. I would highly recommend Virgin Active and Kristian.

One of the best and most extensive gyms I’ve ever been to. They have a pool, Pilates, climbing wall, yoga and of course cardio and strength training equipment. They even have nap pods for those looking for a break after their workout.

I absolutely love all the Virgin Active gyms. They have completely changed my relationship with exercise and I now look forward to going to the gym. It's a 5 star experience every time. No more rushing to grab equipment before classes or crowded group exercise like Fitness First. It is definitely worth the extra money.

Awesome gym, womens change rooms need to be cleaned! Every time I go in, I complain about the masses of long black hair everywhere in the change rooms but it never improves. Apart form that, it's awesome!

I go between Pitt St and Moore Park usually, but so far Virgin's been the best gym I've ever been to! It's a bit pricey but there are sooooo many classes (which is all I do really), plus amazing shower facilities, spa, pool etc. It has a really luxe feel to it. All the classes I've done so far have been really good (everything from barre, HIIT, cycling, grid, pilates, yoga, there's so many kinds), and the yoga classes are in a really nice room that's very calming. During isolation they uploaded online workouts for members (and didn't charge anyone fees to view them) that you could do at home which I thought was a great initiative, and I even had a couple of calls from trainers to see how I was going with it all. All the staff are so lovely, it really is a great gym.

A great gym in city center. Very spacious . Towels and lockers available , no need to bring padlock. Very modern machines and equipment. Several classes throughout the day . Plenty Olympic bars , enough squad racks,. Free weights and kettle bells available. Please note opening times , on weekend and public holidays this gym only open at 09:00.

I tried to get member but there were some misunderstanding with the policies, Andy at the virgin active pitt st, he was so nice but he didn't know very well the policies and also took more than 1 hour tour around the intalations, so I got a membership that after I realice I want to cancel, I understand he is new that's all right, but his manager tried to pressure me, I really didn't like the way, and also I have to wait and look if the system takes 35$ dollars from my account, so guys it's really bad customer service.

Well located expansive complex with excellent machines and break out spaces; pleasant fellow gym goers and staff. Thanks for tuning the music down a tad. Makes for an energising work out between meetings!

I love this gym!!! It’s flexible, I love how I have the option to go casual or if i decide to go on a contract then there is no joining fees!!! Most gyms have expensive joining fees! But this one have now removed! I think that’s a brilliant idea. I am only a casual visitor but a former gym membership on a 12 Months period. I moved to casual as I don’t work out every day, only when i feel like it really ? Call me lazy ?? But i like flexibility!!! Plus i tend to have back injuries which is why i chose a casual member incase i need to stop working out and rest to get better and trust me it has happen a million times already.. i have a disc extrusion which means my nerves is now touching my disc!!! and i suffer from sciatica. I got rid of it by taking nerve fix from Iherb online shopping! Amazing! Because of this product, i know can work out like a normal person now.. yay!! ? This gym is spacious, so many gym equipment, left, right and centre!! And they did have a spa, but think they are in the process of renovating it and a massive pool, sauna, steam room... it’s amazing. The gym membership a quite expensive but you get what you pay for ? No joining fees Casuals can still enjoy the gym life, just download the application and have the barcode ready to swipe yourself in and your ready to work out!!!

Excellent facilities even though some of the areas have been going through repair, friendly staff, and modern equipment. I prefer Virgin over the fitness first

Facilities and equipment are very good. But, there is miscommunication with staffs and most of the classes needs improvement

I don't ever write long reviews but this one is well worth it. Due to relocation to the Gold Coast for employment I had to terminate my contract. But, I am forced to pay an exit fee of $300 dollars for terminating my contract early(two month before the end of contract). I have been going to the gym for 10 years, used services at Goodlife, Anytime fitness, and Gold Gym and never in my life have I seen such unreasonable and unnecessary claim regarding a cancelation policy in a contract. After not reaching resolution with Virgin's customer service department, I have decided to contact the ACCC to make a formal complaint, only because I know I'm not the only going through this and I'm appalled by the thousands of dollars they have practically stolen from consumers is terrifying. This is about fairness, things happen in life and sometimes you have to pack up and move, and if you cannot physically use the services than why should have to pay for it. Please like this post if you have been faced with the same issue! Just as an FYI - Facilities we're previously great as of a year ago and would have given this review a 5 star, but too many changes in class schedules and reduced number of classes, spa not in order for half a year, and yes higher prices than other gyms.

The best gym in downtown, no doubt about it. Decent amenities, good selection of activities, helpful staff and convenient operational hours.

I have been a member of this gym for 2 years and I cannot fault it. Staff are friendly and professional, great classes, new equipment and facilities are impeccably clean every time I have been there. Very happy customer and would highly recommend this gym and Virgin Active in general

Signed up to this gym last year, I thought I will only like it for a month. It is a very nice gym, staff are friendly and professional, great facilities, very clean and well organised. And of course shout out to the best PT ever, LUCAS! He is absolutely wonderful, very kind, passionate, knowledgable and super fun. I always look forward to our sessions and that is also the reason why I still keep my membership, I can't recommend him highly enough. Also, I've been attending Yoga classes with Evangeline, she is so lovely and an amazing instructor, highly recommended.
