What a treat! The cathedral lies in the heart of the city and is surrounded by grass obviously much enjoyed by local workers enjoying their lunchtime break in the sunshine. The cathedral is an extended mediaeval parish church, which now has a number of side chapels, and a crypt, as well as the original nave and choir, and a west end extension with fabulous modern glass. There was a marvelous stainless steel Nativity scene and a really beautiful simple stainless steel font. It was great to see the place busy, with a lunchtime wedding hotly followed by a rehearsal by the youth orchestra. Good loos! And a very nice coffee shop and a gift shop. Welcoming and friendly staff.

Must admit, I had never associated Sheffield with a cathedral, so it was a first and was very impressive. In good condition, with interesting stained glass, a temporary sculpture exhibition and very well-executed Remembrance Day displays. An oasis of calm in the busy city centre.

Beautiful comforting atmosphere, and the way it is built creates incredible acoustics of course. When they have musicians practicing I always feel lucky to be there. Rev Richard bumped into me and my friend here and was so friendly, prayed for our late Mums...a healing moment I'm grateful for.

Took the kids in for a look around on a rainy day. We sat down at some colouring tables and did some arts and crafts. After this we were welcomed by a lovely gentleman who I assume from his attire was a Bishop. He gave the kids each a rucksack, which contained a wind up torch, binoculars and maps and pencils. We were encouraged to explore the beautiful cathedral and find secret messages and take in the beautiful architecture. The kids loved exploring and finding all the hidden beauty. Absolutely beautiful place. I'm not religious myself but I'm always blown away by it.

A break from retail therapy to discover this 'hotchpotch' house of God. What a fascinating communion of chapels and parish church to become a unique cathedral. From volunteer guides to altar rail polishing Verger, our welcome was warm and enthusiastic - eager to share deeper knowledge and points of interest but not 'in your face' pushiness. We took time out to light a devotional tea light, grateful for the daily grace that is so often taken for granted. Highly recommend time out, wandering and reflection moments here, certainly the most memorable experience of our day trip to Sheffield.

Cathedral with fantastic stained windows. In a sunny day you will be amazed not only but what they depict but a show of lights and colors to please your eyes.

Despite having lived in Sheffield for a few years, I'd never actually paid much attention to the cathedral. I went in the other day, had a good explore and found some really interesting stuff! It's a nice space and a lot more impressive inside than it is outside. It was particularly interesting to me that there were several different spaces with altars, all in very different styles!

STUNNING ARCHITECTURE! I appreciated it more after learning about the history of this site. I often walk past here and never knew that it was open 365 days a year, has a cute little café inside and guided tours. This the oldest building in Sheffield. The people of Sheffield have been worshiping here since the year 1200.

Have lived here 30 years and realised I'd never been inside, so I popped in. The volunteer greeters were very friendly and charming. Stunning building. Would be nice to know a bit more about how the current building occurred because it is clear bits were added. Outside bits became inside bits. One-storey sections became vaulted ceilings. Etc. Also, what's the story behind the flags and the bayonets made into railings? And are there bodies behind the stones in the crypt? Beautiful building.

Always a good place to visit. Free, but donations more than welcome. The volunteers and staff are amazing. Lots to see and loads of events throughout the year. Hidden in plain sight. Just off the tram stop.

I went to see the illustration and it was brilliant. I've been to see it a few times now and each time it's been spectacular. Even without the illustrations, the cathedral is a beautiful place to visit.

Went to the illumination show in 2022. It was beautiful & well-organised. My only issue was the sound level of the music - which was way too high & my partner's hearing aids kept cutting out because of it. However, the church is beautiful & the illuminations quite stunning.

Visited to see the Craft, Vintage and Makers market at the weekend. However, having never been inside the cathedral before, I was amazed at the architecture and decoration of this wonderful building. Although the craft event was good, I found myself exploring the building and taking in the atmosphere. Well worth a visit as there is so much to observe and appreciate.

Religious or not, some great features and architecture. Old meets new. Keep your eye out for exhibitions they have on. There is a lovely independent coffee shop called 1554 inside. Its reasonably priced and has a decent selection. It does tend to shut early afternoon, but nice for a morning visit to the cathedral with a coffe break.

Beautiful cathedral which constantly surprises with a range of styles and doesn't conform to the usual arrangement you would expect. Loved the steel exhibition running through it and the steel nativity. Just disappointed that the gift shop is only open between 10 and 2.

The cathedral is beautiful and well worth a visit. The windows and lantern tower are beautiful features. There are also a number of interesting pieces within the cathedral including the steel nativity - I'd highly recommend a quiet wander if your in Sheffield.

Such a beautiful building. When it's a sunny day and your inside the sunlight reflects through the gorgeous windows and its even more beautiful. Lovely service on Sunday (face masks are very much encouraged and there is plenty of hand sanitiser points around). Something are still different due to covid rules but the staff are very friendly and people will guide you if you need help.

Lovely cathedral-fabulous architecture and stained glass-a haven of peace from the hubbub of the city centre. Be careful not to confuse with the Catholic Cathedral (St Marie)near the Crucible Theatre!

Beautiful section of ceiling. A local photographer advised me on getting a good shot. Rest of cathedral also impressive. Looks like a lot of effort has gone into the presentation of the cathedral. Interesting industrial link to with steel(?) Nativity. Flashing colourful installation down some steps. Plenty of hand sanitizer available to use. Currently some of the (big & little) Bears of Sheffield are also hanging out here so that was nice too. Lovely place.

Had a nice walk around the cathedral...you can clearly see the old and new parts of the building which I think is deliberate but works so well. Would definitely recommend a visit.

What a lovely place with lovely people. It was being well used by children, loads of lego for them. Nice to see a church venue being well used. Still some quite spaces for a bit of contemplation.

  • 5/5 Nicholas B. 1 year ago on Google
Visited as night fell and really appreciated the harmonious blend of sacred and secular - steel sculptures of Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child alongside seasonal trees decorated by local community groups. The extensive renovations in recent years blend smoothly with the C16th architecture of the original building, modern lighting allows one to appreciate the interior detail, and friendly church staff are helpful and welcoming. Although we are not Sheffield people, we intend to return to the cathedral to share in future events.

It was a lovely experience exploring one of the oldest cathedrals. People there were so welcoming and explained history about construction and paintings. The most attractive thing was the painting of the last supper which illustrated black Christ accommodating the concept all human beings are equal.

Extremely pretty exterior and interior. Very well preserved. There’s also an exhibition inside to give you more details about the history of the cathedral. This includes famous people like John Wesley, John Montgomery, Talbot, etc. Otherwise, one could also enjoy the peace and quiet the cathedral offers.

  • 4/5 Janet P. 3 years ago on Google
The Cathedral is beautiful, but Government guidelines are that only 15 can attend a wedding which is mad given the size of the place. Surely restrictions should go on size. However, it is what it is!! 😵

I have been to the Cathedral Church in the past on a Sunday morning, like today. But i don't go to the church anymore due to the Coronavirus. But, i still pray to God on a Sunday morning at home, before breakfast. I still believe in Jesus Christ. I will never ever stop believing in him. He will be with me for ever and ever Amen. Don't forget to pray for everyone, who has lost love one's this morning. And i always watch, "Song's Of Praise" on BBC1 on my telly. And, try to sing along too. God Bless everyone this Sunday morning. "Amen".
