Absolutely loved it here. Stunning lodge in the woods. We booked the golden oak with BBQ and wood burner. The lodge was really well equipped and very warm thanks to the underfloor heating. The site is about a 40 minute drive to Whitby or Scarborough. Lots of lovely walks to do in the local area. And a hot tub waiting for you at the lodge when you get back. We will definitely be booking another forest holiday.

Lovely weekend break. Cabin was spacious, airy, clean, and well presented. Forest Retreat staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful (I had a couple of small issues with the cabin that were resolved quickly and efficiently). Hot tub was large, clean and most importantly hot, and used throughout the weekend. The weekend would have been even better if the weather was better and even one clear night would have made a great weekend even better.

Beautiful location, forest lodge with hot tub on the balcony. The cafe is friendly and the food was good. Lodges were well equipped with all mod cons and ours was clean and tidy. The hot tubs are checked daily as well. Great base for the Yorkshire Moors or just to relax.

First time here and I never wanted to leave. Cabins were lovely, modern, spacious, loved the decor and the underfloor heating. Plenty of activities to do, tried the cycle routes, quiz night, air rifles and spent plenty of time in the hot tub. Was lucky enough to get a clear night and the stars were beautiful. Tried the food delivery, was on time and hot and all staff were friendly. Prices on site are a tad expensive though so well worth a trip to Pickering or Malton for the supermarkets.

Cropton I booked this well in advance with a night time stargazing experience, we were informed upon checking in that this was cancelled due to overbooking and then was told it was due to the scout guide being off sick 🤔 We were then offered a refund or to try another option but we explained chose this particular area that we booked due to the star gazing experience they should have given notice so we could have changed to a different location but this seemed to fall on deaf ears. Once we located our cabin we found we were missing items from our booking even though they rectified this I was asked to produce proof of ordering it! 🤔 The cabin itself wasn't the cleanest the floors were dirty and hadn't been cleaned our socks were filthy from walking about inside. The fridge sounded like it was about to take off It was vibrating like crazy upon turning it on and it also hadn't been cleaned, there were stains from previous occupants overall the cabins are dated and seem not to be very well maintained. Disappointed to say the least is an understatement

Issues with Hot Tubs and decking area The lid was covered in green slime, the sides of the hot tub was pealing away and could do with a good clean. The dials for the jets didn't work, and the silver rings for the jets kept coming off. So we didn't use it as much as we wanted to. It also states that hot tubs are emptied and refilled for each stay. At 9am today there where a guy sorting things on the hot tub, and the label says Your hot tub will be ready on Monday 19th Sept at 19:30, thanks Stu (sorry ste) Also, when buying from the shop, there where eggs, bacon sausages. These all had prices on as it was a priced marked item and when getting served, was charged a different price. I didn't want to make a fuss as there was a massive queue i just walked away. This did make me feel annoyed as I was enjoying a relaxing holiday. The last couple things that wasn't great was the upkeep of the cabin decking area. The wood has rotted on the ledges, where's moss in loads of places (I know we are in forests but didn't expect this much) and it needed painting. The toilets, main toilet you had to use extreme force to flush the toilet. The back of the TV remote is broken. We've reported these issues and still wasn't fixed by time we left.

Leaving today after Lovely peaceful weekend away. Cabin is huge very clean and has everything you need. The only issue I'd have is I'd hoped the hot tub was a little more private quite open for neighbours to see. The breakfast is lovely can't fault staff or the food. Very friendly and welcoming nothing is too much for them. Highly recommend we will definitely be returning 🙂

Hot tub cold and jets not good. Paid for late check out and then they drained our hot tub before 10am! The guy said he didn't realise we were late check out and apologised but when we tried to get our late check out fee refunded we were told you can't use the hot tub because they need cleaning for the next guest. This should be explained when you pay for late check out!!! Burger in the cafe also gave me food poisoning but other food there was tasty. The lodges are nice though and go ape was great.
