After
contacting
the
reception
after
leaving
the
hotel
I
was
made
aware
over
the
phone
that
via
the
CCTV
system
in
the
hotel
they
also
record
audio
at
numerous
locations
around
the
hotel
including
the
reception.
I
asked
if
the
audio
was
recording
all
of
the
time
and
a
manager
confirmed
it
was.
So
in
essence
private
conversations
are
being
recorded
throughout
the
hotel
which
is
contrary
to
the
guidance
set
out
by
the
Information
Commissioners
Office
which
states
in
relation
to
audio
recording
using
surveillance
equipment
"You
should
not
usually
use
surveillance
systems
to
directly
record
conversations
between
members
of
the
public.
This
is
highly
intrusive
and
unlikely
to
be
justifiable
in
most
circumstances".
So
please
be
aware
that
your
private
conversations
may
not
be
so
private!
So
the
Hotel
replied
that
they
are
fully
compliant?
although
the
ICO
guidance
is
very
clear
that
audio
recording
of
public
private
conversation
should
only
be
done
in
"exceptional"
circumstance!
So
if
I
am
having
a
private
conversation
with
my
partner
in
the
reception
area
which
has
nothing
to
do
with
the
hotel
or
their
staff
is
this
exceptional?
no
its
not.
If
I
am
talking
to
my
son
in
the
bar
area
and
that
conversation
does
not
involve
the
hotel
or
staff,
is
that
exceptional?
no
its
not.
Carden
Park
management
please
read
the
guidance
as
you
are
breaching
it!
