What a novel experience! As a family that enjoys Korean content, we had to try out some of the dishes that we’ve come to see in the these shows. The owner said Banchan means side dishes. Make sure you book ahead of time because it gets full. The portions are sizable so order to share. The Korean fried chicken comes as 16 pieces a portion. I hope they modify the menu so that patrons can have the option of fewer portions. I particularly enjoyed the noodle dish with the egg. You have the option of booking a grill table if you want to grill your own meat. We had fun doing it and creating our own combination wraps. Don’t ask me to remember the names. It’ll take more visits to the restaurant for the names to stick. Not all the food was to my liking and some I would go back for, but an exploration of different cuisine is always fun.

Birthday celebration- Dinner for 7. We had a wonderful evening at Banchan. I love that this is a cosy restaurant with not many tables. Our waiter Trevor was amazing friendly and efficient which made our dinner even more special. Menu is wide with many options. Our food was flavorful and taste. At the end of the evening my daughter was given a complimentary birthday dessert with bells and whistles and a happy birthday song by the staff.

I've been to quite a few korean restaurants in Joburg and Banchan is arguably the best and most authentic korean restaurant in town. From the service all the way to the menu, it's all exceptional. There's also good security for vehicles. I would suggest making a booking beforehand as the place gets packed quite often. The menu was surprisingly affordable and I'm definitely going back. It's the type of cuisine you will enjoy with a group of friends and family as most of the meals are meant for sharing. I highly recommend.

What an amazing place. Such kind and sweet staff! Manager/owner I'm assuming was so kind hearted and helpful with one of our gluten-free mates she personally came and assisted in menu choice! That barbecue at your very own table experience is worth your time people!!! Food flavors and portions are so good I couldn't stop snacking and eating, because of the additional side that come with our meals. Staff are funny, able to take and make a joke what a good team! Clean, modern, tasty food and worth its money. We will be back!

Howdy folks. This is one interesting place. I am going to start with the things I didn't like and build up to maybe the best thing I've ever had. Parking is a bit on the low side... And would seriously consider booking around 17:30. Otherwise you might be in for disappointment. I think this is a bit of bad luck but it seemed like our waitress might have been a trainee because we called sometimes and we had to flag her down instead. The food was also kind of slow, so don't expect normal times, add 10 minutes. Now for the good stuff. The vibe is good, the waitresses were very nice and friendly. And now the reason I might have to buy a house close to this restaurant, is because of the food. The KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) is so far the best fried chicken I have ever had... and I am old🤣 The crunchy outside, the nice sweet and spicy sauce (is what was on it) and the chicken was just amazeballs. The other Korean food was also very tasty, and cooking your own food is a fun thing to do in general.

This restaurant is the best👌. The customer service is excellent and the food OMG 😲 is very delicious 😋. It was my first time eating Korean food, I nearly cried when I had my first bite of the chicken😅. And the famous Korean alcoholic beverage (Soju) taste so good that, I had to buy 2 extra bottles to take home. I had great experience and from now on I will be regular a customer. Thank you, for serving us such amazing food. 👏

Made sure I made a reservation for this place as it gets very busy and is a small restaurant. Got a very friendly greeting when we got there and was seated at our table. A child chair was offered for our infant to sit on. Being the first time can be a bit intimidating at this place but the waitress explained the best selling dishes and her recommendations so we went with that. Gave us a remote as well to press in case we needed immediate service, and it worked well. Dumplings for starters, Korean BBQ bulgogi with Korean fried chicken and Tamyun noodles with egg for mains. For drinks we had the soju and milkshake. Food was awesome and very tasty especially the fired chicken(would definitely return just for that). The bulgogi portion size is a bit on the small side but it is 200g and stated on the menu. Parking is a bit on the tricky side because there is not much but a plan can be made. Overall good experience. Would definitely return and recommend this place, just make sure to get a nice table inside and make your reservation early.

Such a lovely little place, friendly welcoming staff and the most delicious food! They are serving take-aways during lockdown prepared with much love and care. My only regret is that I couldn't wait to tuck into my delicious steamed pork dumplings and as such messed dipping sauce down my front 😊 Highly recommended.

For her birthday, my girlfriend wanted to try authentic Korean food. I asked around on Twitter and Facebook for people's recommendations and experiences and 100% of the feedback I got pointed to Banchan, making this an easy choice! Not only was the food amazing, but the vibe, the atmosphere was exciting yet comfortable. Very small restaurant but constantly packed with people (at least it was on the Saturday we were there). I had the Chicken Noodle Soup type dish which was easily the best i've ever had. One of the highlights of the menu is the KFC or Korean Fried Chicken and boy does it deliver! Safe to say I am already planning my next trip 🤤

Booking is essential as the restaurant gets packed, and also arrive there a bit earlier because parking can be a challenge. The food was delicious, I enjoyed the whole grilling experience, and the meat was tender. Fried chicken was so good, I recommend everyone to try it. We had a great time.

The Korean barbecue here is exceptionally delectable and, in my opinion, the finest in the city. Be sure to make a reservation well ahead of time, as it's consistently packed. The restaurant exudes a charming family-friendly atmosphere, and the service is excellent, especially with the convenient bell for calling over waitstaff.

Food good, vibes good, service good! Such a gem of a place with a next level dining experience. Make super sure you book in advance as they are super popular. Book for inside if you want any of the hot pot experiences.

This was a great experience, with best food and atmosphere was beautiful. The only downside about my dinning experience is the waitress, a short lady with short African hair, I couldn't get her name but the receipt said her name is Sibongile. Firstly, she would ignore us completely. She would roll her eyes when we ask questions. She would smile at other clients and frown when she gets to our table. When we asked for the bill she just left it on our table and we had to keep calling her multiple times to fetch it. When we got a doggy bag she didn't even provide us with a paper bag to put our food in it. I ended up thinking that the place was not LGBTQI+ friendly but the Japanese gentleman and other staff members were friendly.

Love the restaurant and look forward to going back. It is small and intimate and the food is delicious. We had the dakkanjung, donkatsu and haemul pajeon. We also had the yuja (citron) ade and the sujeonggwa, which is a cinnamon and ginger tea to drink, both which were light and delicious and a wonderful accompaniment to the meal.

Delicious authentic Korean food in Johannesburg. You have to try the crispy and sweet Korean Fried Chicken 🍗 It's soooooo good! I also tried some Tteokbokki which are these chewy rice cakes in a hot broth of yummy. It packs a nice punch so if you order this, make sure you enjoy spicy food. I also tried the black bean noodles 🍜 (jjawang) which are also so good! Overall, awesome food. The staff are also super friendly! Highly recommend visiting. They are still operating and adhering to all covid protocols. I phoned in to place a order for collection. There were no issues at all.

It was great, only problem is the tables get reserved quickly and we couldn't order a Korean BBQ to cook ourselves because a table for 2 is too small.

That was a great experience! Amazing Korean food, very authentic and delicious. We got the kimchi jeon, bugolgi bibimbap and half a portion of Korean fried chicken with sweet spicy sauce. Exactly what I was craving. All the food was so good, I wanna comeback for the Korean Barbecue. We went on lunch time during the week, so majority of patreons were professional Korean men who work around Sandton. Parking spot had a security guard and felt pretty safe. Service was fast and direct to the point. Waitress was competent, memorized our order and didn't mess it up. Overall great experience.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I called and asked if I could book a table and a lady on the phone kindly advices me to book a table online via a link that they sent to me via sms. Within the online booking process they asked if I had any allergies or preferences in terms of my diet. I am allergic to sulphur dioxide and I made a note of that, not thinking that it would matter because I haven't been to a restaurant that takes my allergy into account, hence why I hardly every dine out... Sulphur dioxide is in a lot of food and ingredients. HOWEVER... when I got there the owner came to my table, she was really well informed about my allergy (you could tell that she did some research) and the food that I need to avoid, this was honesty so amazing and it warmed my heart that even with a full restaurant she took time and came to my table and told me what she could put together for me. Needless to say, the food was amazing, the place is clean, the staff is friendly and the owner makes the experience just so much more personal, they'll definitely see me again. 감사합니다 🙏🏻

This goes down as one of the best experiences in Johannesburg. The Korean BBQ is what brought me here first 💪🏻 but then the Korean Fried Chicken made me come back time after time. If you want an authentic restaurant this is the best place to be.

The most confident 5 star review ever. AMAZINGly delicious food. The Korean Fried Chicken is like no other KFC on the planet. Succulent, crispy and flavourful. Such an awesome dining experience at this authentic restaurant. No frills - just fantastic food.

The food is very tasty and so nice to have real Korean dishes, friendly staff and Jaime is adorable. The venue needs a revamp and it felt like I was sitting in someone's abandoned garage, so that's not a vibe, the gas cookers for the braai need to be in the table not ontop as it makes it a little uncomfortable to have this skillet between people, nevertheless had calamari deobap which is hot but divine and cooked some Bulgogi which is amazing, the best kimchi ever and all staff are helpful and friendly. I just wish that the explanation about using the lettuce, then filling with rice and meat had come at the beginning of the meal vs. the end because that is SO tasty! try it. best homemade matcha ice cream I've ever had. Overall I keep ordering uber eats the venue is not somewhere I'd go again but of course always busy so you decide what suits you.

The food is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the fried chicken, the ramyon, and the plum soju. Unfortunately the atmosphere was not that great… beer bottles around the corner, run-down area, and its super noisy inside the restaurant (95 decibels which is the same as standing next to a massive speaker). So sit outside if you like a bit if a more chilled vibe🌟 I will be going back for the food🙇‍♀️

I would highly recommend checking this gem out. The service was great and the food was excellent!!! We were a table of 5 people and shared samgyeopsal, sogalbi, ramyun, japchae, tteokbokki, and spicy sweet Korean Fried Chicken and we were stuffed!! 10/10 experience.

This has to be my favourite Korean food spot in Joburg 🥢 goods: - the Korean chicken wings and sogalbi beef short ribs hit every time - unlimited serving of the side dishes (aka banchan) - cute cozy spot - super friendly waitrons bads: - you can only book a table for a max of 2 hours - i can never get the plum flavoured soju these days - it’s gets quite packed so it can get noisy at times

The service was awesome, you should book in advance it's very popular,we were even offered a heater. The waiter and waitress were very accommodating. The food was awesome felt like I was transported back to Korea.Though the Bingsu and hotteok was a bit different but still not bad,I'd suggest the coffee and oreo one if you're not familiar with matcha and red bean.We ordered Bulgogi,Dakgalbi,KFC,Pajeon,Padalecki,Soju, dessert Bingsu and Hotteok 🥰I definitely recommend this place, don't look the price just enjoy the food and atmosphere.

Food was tasty, especially enjoyed the Korean Fried Chicken! The place is very busy and small so quite noisy. Service is slow even though we were attended to by several different staff members. Two cockroaches casually joined our meal. We found them walking on the wall and eventually on our table. We mentioned this to one of the waitresses and she immediately said no which annoyed me. We were kind enough to not make a scene and politely told her to tell the manager. I then showed her one of them that I had killed in a serviette. She apologised and said she would tell the manager. I don’t think she did. So many things to try on the menu.
