I think this museum is really cool and unique for LA! It has a lot of art and artifacts from the DDR which is even more rare. I do wish that the museum has more context for the pieces and more information about them though. Also as an aside, the outdoor area is really cute

Don't forget about their outdoor exhibits! I really enjoyed the Wende Museum for the interesting exhibits about how the Cold War was framed in Soviet Russia. There was also a cool section in the back of the museum about Jews in Russia. And lastly, the outdoor exhibit had more items about Jewish life in Russia. It's a beautiful museum to visit in Culver City. And it's free! They also change out the exhibits regularly. There is also free parking at the museum and next to the park.

A lot to see. There is are two exhibitions in the middle and then permanent collections on either side with books and artifacts. There is a lot still in boxes that they are plan to put items online. The space is used well. The sculpture garden was small and peaceful.

This museum had a pretty rare exhibit of oil paintings from Soviet Union that you don't really see that often. They also have a few pieces on display from the cold war period. Museum is pretty small and didn't take a lot of time to go through.

Visited here for the first time last weekend. The museum staff was great and made us feel welcome. Staff asks how you heard of the museum and your zip code but that’s as far as it goes for “admission”. The art is varied, paintings, audiovisual works and collections of various classifications. This is a good visit for history buffs , those looking to do something different on a weekend, and parents looking for activities An added bonus ,a kid specific event on certain Sundays (call for details) insert this into a weekend as a kids activity, and if by some great mystery your child gets bored, there is always Veterans Park right across the street!

This is more a museum of socialist realism art from the Eastern Bloc than it is a museum about the Cold War. I’m giving three stars not for the collection or museum itself but for the curation. On one plaque you’ll see comments about how museums and schools pick and choose which history/artifacts to present, and so it is power structures that determine the narrative of history....then go on on another plaque to pick and choose information that fits a certain narrative and opinion, like the plaque below commenting on covid-19, thus perpetuating the very same “institutionalized selective narrative” they are questioning. TLDR: Curation biased towards postmodern ideology. If that’s your cup of tea, great. If not, probs not your museum.

We went to the opening reception of the exhibition “China: (De)constructing Ideology: The Cultural Revolution and Beyond”. It was our first time at this museum and we were pleasantly surprised by it. The exhibit was interesting, informative and even interactive (there was a spot where you could write postcards with their stamps and typewriter). They also had additional exhibits (which could include a little bit more info on specific items displayed and not just about the overall window theme. Something to consider: training the staff a little more on the exhibits. While walking around with two guests, one of the staff was acting as a guide but some of the information they provided was wrong- pretty strange at such a small and specific establishment.

Modern conflict ephemera, categorized for consideration. Archives surrounding the displays and long galleries emphasize the historic significance of an era still potent in living memory.

The Wende is absolutely wonderful. Their collections are well curated and interesting, and the fact that they are offered for free is stupendous. Definitely a great spot to visit on a day in Culver.

See the photo exhibit and video of David Bowie in Russia. It's there until October. Free parking and admission. I recommend the docent tour. You'll learn so much about the museum and the exhibit s!

This place was a pleasant surprise. I went on free museum day, not expecting to see much from a small museum. It is rich in cold war artifacts, stories, displays. I really enjoyed the ballet display, and loved all the history/ context provided on the walls of the display. The Cold War artifacts, were neato keen. I loved all of it,from the busts,to the toys and dishes. I realized from this great visit, that I need to visit other smaller museums, add them to my to do list.

this place is pretty cool. it feels mildly unsustainable, being a big, beautiful facility on the west side that seems almost always empty (and indeed i had never heard of it until seeing it while driving by.) i visited after they re-opened post-shutdown and enjoyed the exhibition of soviet cold-war-era houshold items. being a child of the 80s it was nostalgic and informative. it also seems like you could rent this place out for events. it seems set up for it. i bet it's even the kind of thing they like doing. i haven't asked them... but i BET they like it. you can just tell.

We enjoyed our visit to this unique museum. They have a number of interesting objects from the Cold War era. My only complaint would be that I'm thinking that they have a lot more interesting objects that they could display if they used more of their special exhibit area for their permanent collection. Very nice outdoor area too,

Our tour guide, Jane, was excellent. The exhibit focus was prison artwork in the Gulag and in America.

A relatively small museum packed with a wonderful collection of Cold War relics and artifacts. Definitely worth a visit every now and then since they change out a couple of their exhibits

Had a great first time checking this museum out. I definitely enjoyed seeing art and artifacts that would not typically be on display at an art or history museum. The current exhibition on the Chinese Cultural Revolution is put together extremely well and is incredibly informative. Of course, perhaps the best part of this experience is that a visit is free of charge. I would highly recommend a visit if you thinking of checking it out!

If you are in LA you should go to this museum. It is fascinating and they have well curated exhibits from their peamemt collection as well as temporary exhibits. It is a very well kept museum with a lot of interesting and important information. It's free, so you really don't have an excuse not to go (and the Kogi truck is parked 10 minutes away so that is another plus). Go, you won't regret it.

This is such a unique, interesting and informative museum. And it's just the right size: just enough to look at so it can be retained. The smaller side exhibits from the permanent collection are superb. Clean, well lit, spacious but not cavernous, specific to it's topics of interest. Did I mention the outstanding outside garden that also has exhibits? A wonderful gift to enjoy. And easy parking!!!!

Great Cold war and East Germany museum in the middle of Culver City! I know very strange uh? There are quite a few items from the era as well as a very large collection of books and video material, even though the latter seems to be accessible only upon appointment. Please do not miss the outside gardening which is really lovely and right now there is a wonderful photo exhibition by a Dutch artist. Plenty of parking in front of the museum. It's also free which makes it even better! Definitely a wonderful place to spend a cultural/historic afternoon.

This place is awesome. Park at the Los Angeles, CA Plaza and get parking w/ validation. If you want to see the infinity room, get an early reservation to The Wende Museum . Then when you walk in, wait in the line for the iPad to make reservations for the Infinity room. It has it's own cue that can take up to 4 hours. Each person gets 45 seconds so it's slow and steady.

Extremely thought provoking especially if you're familiar with Russian history. There's galvanizing lectures on Sunday and they pull out incredible pieces that are not on display.
