Very modern and beautiful square. Perfect for a walk or small break. The main bus stop is also right next to it.

A well-designed place where the author combines the modern part of the city with the old part. Great place to rest, take a deep breath, order coffee, and feel the atmosphere of Cyprus. Strongly recommend.

Eleftheria square has been recently renovated with a design that brings the new with the old and makes it one. Below the square the shaded areas provide for a relaxing place to avoid the hot summer sun.

Would be a nice spot if it wasn’t for the guard whistling out KIDS from the playground for no reason at all. (Edit: Apparently the kids LOOKED too old for the guard; and it is strictly forbidden for anyone over 12 years old to use the playground even if it is almost completely empty (there were only like three smaller kids there) since there are no shadows in the heat. Also the guys smoking joints right next to the guard didn’t seem to bother him a lot. But the kids who want to play on the playground built from taxpayer money? That’s a big no-no! Seriously Nicosia?) Also you can’t step on those few teeny-tiny grass patches otherwise God knows what might happen. Otherwise the design of the square with its fountains and the somewhat small green patches looks quite nice, there are also a few cafés, a toilet and a parking nearby. Maybe there could be less concrete and more trees but it’s a nice and modern square overall (right next to the old city walls) that looks great at night!

It took very long to complete from 2005 to 2021. It is designed by the famous Zaha Hadid architect. Very friendly place to walk and enjoy your time in the heart of Nicosia. 😉

Nice relaxing architectural oasis comprising green patches, trees, water features and solid marble shapes on which people can sit, away from the busy roads above. Free public toilets are also available at this location, making it the perfect place to have a rest from the hassle and bustle of Nicosia.

"Babble" posing as architecture. Pointlessly expensive design with lots of unnecessary materials subject to time decay. Well designed but completely out of context. Could be placed anywhere in the world, ansolutely mismatched with Nicosia's historic and natural environment.

This Eleftheria Square as the city’s primary gathering space, Zaha Hadid Architects’ (ZHA) design creates new connections intended to unite a divided capital. Nicosia’s massive Venetian fortifications separate the old city from its modern districts, while the city’s ‘Green Line’ divides the capital into two disparate communities. I’m big fan of Zaha Hadid works, and this square nice example style and quality…

Lovely place for a walk, take photos, visit the city center. Take a moment to walk through the park underneath the square , you will be pleasantly surprised!

Eleftheria Square is quite controversial among Cypriots I talked with, as it was long time in construction, costed a lot of money (45 Mio Eur 💸) and still the original plans had to be significantly adapted. But that aside, architecturally it is beautiful to visit and it has been designed by the Zaha Hadid Architects and it beautifully integrates the old Venetian walls of the Nicosia town into the new modern design. The best time to visit is early Morning or afternoon as during the day (for most of the year) it becomes quite hot place to be in, even though they did put few trees and water sources in the bottom part of it.

There are fountains, water fountains if you want to drink water, toilets and modern benches to sit. It has a nice playground for children not too far from the city centre. The playground is designed for slightly older children, there are no swings for babies. There is a climbing frame, 2 slides, 3 swings, several seesaws. The elevator was broken when we went there, so you might be forced to use a big ramp from the top bridge if you are a wheelchair user.

A very nice section of the town of Nicosia, nice green with fountains and stones. Cafes and restaurants are full in the area. Lovely ❤️

Designed by Zaha Hadid studio. In my option it’s a great integration of modernity and the quaint old buildings. Definitely worth a stroll!

Eleftherias Square in Nicosia, Cyprus, is a central gathering point with a rich historical and cultural significance. Bordered by charming cafes, shops, and historical buildings, the square often serves as a hub for social activities and events.

While Eleftheria/Freedom Square (including the City Hall, Post Office, and Cyprus Library) could be overlooked during the day, especially with all the movement around the bus station and the masses of people rushing to work or markets, it’s a showstopper at night. Simply gorgeously done.

The Elefheria Swuare is very amazing and modern construction full of trees around the Avenue. The organization is notorious, in the same place , you can take the local and Intercity buses, you can find a place for kids with circus and The Ledra street that is very representative with a enormous tree in the middle of the street, in the North  place, you find The Ledras Arcade that is many restaurants and business before enter to the Greek and Turkish limits. Is the palace of the bazaar

I mostly visited at night, and the reason is there is no shade on top of the structure you see in the photos, and having visited this place in July, it was a no from me. The downstair place is accesible by stairs, ramp and elevator (which was out of order on mid july 2023) The good part is that the square incorporates many uses, there's cafes, toilets, places to sit and watch the fountains. Under the structure in the photos there was taking place a concert. You should totally visit!

Just a little historical detail about the square. When the first wooden bridge was replaced by a stone structure, it was much wider. So part of the bastion was demolished to make space. Here, you can see the base of the original with the 'new' one behind.

Beautiful, recently renovated pedestrian area located just outside the historical part of the city. Definitely worth a stroll.

Nice looking park with a lot of fountains, that would be great for kids or dogs to play in or sit and cool your feet with 30 degrees. But you are not allowed to touch the water! There is even a guard standing next to them. Absolutely ridiculous situation.

Place is awesome. Will suggest only to go at night, since during night you will experience cold breeze fresh air, lightning all over the square, water fountains with colourful lights, and flora and fauna embedded in lights. Worth visiting and enjoying the night views. Unfortunately it's not finished yet and the cafeterias and cto info shop are not open yet. It's a shame that the marble is already broken in places before it's opening. The children's playground is finished but still closed.

Good central attraction :- if the constant stream of immigrants is your thing. Well maintained area.

Can't touch the fountains /water. You can't sit on the grass. The faucets don't work. Baby strollers are prohibited from entering the public toilets. You can't sit on the top of the square, next to the glass. You can't take a walk next to walls cause of the blinding ground floodlights. Someone was made extremely rich from this "renovation"...

Great design and idea how to integrate it to historical place. However lots of places inside are in progress.

Built to replace Faneromeni Square which ended up in no man's land. Pleasant place with modern architecture.
