If you can, go there and support the museum. It is only in French but I think you can spare 1000FCFA. It also has a nice view.

Informative… So sad to see how was the behavior of colonial forces to the local people! If I would be a citizen of the colonial countries, I would be ashamed here… But Senegal’s people are so kind and lovely. Even they are feeling a pain inside, they don’t reflect it to others just because of they are guests… I love them!

A museum that we visited as the House of Slaves is closed on Monday. Importantly we were locked into the museum at around 11am in the morning as the security guard locked up and left without checking if any was still viewing the all-French museum. Like a lot of places in Senegal you need to get change before visiting. I had to escape through the door after pushing, pulling and receiving no help (shown in pictures). Awful, if I was older or had children then this could have been very stressful.

Beautiful and nice walk. Sadly again, all in French, there was no translation in English.

It is a beautiful photo spot, but the cultural relics on display in the museum are only introduced in French.

The museum itself is an exhibit. You won't be that proud of European heritage after you've been, but it is very interesting. There is a comparatively inexpensive guidebook available in English and French. Entrance to the museum is 500 CFA.

The entrance fee is 500 CFA (less than a Euro) for non-Africans. If you dont speak French, you wont understand much but only get a basic idea of the history of Goree. The museum is inside a small fortress where dozens of old French war equipment is scattered around. You will see some cool artifcats and canons half buried in sand or put amongst rocks. The exhibition starts from the early humans and streches back to current day. The artifcats exhibited are cool but the quality of the exhibiton is pretty poor. Still stop by and see how the life has been in Goree starting from the early ages of humanity.

Closed on Mondays!!Our tour visited the island on a Monday ! (Hence the 3 stars only) I would have really liked to have seen inside, but the guard sitting in the entrance joked that no, he would not make an exception for me, even if I said "please" nicely! I had to make do with reading all the information of the boards outside (camera malfunction so no pictures of the info boards)and wander around the outside....Canons!!!!!

This was an interesting fort, but all signs were in French only. Not useful for Anglophones and the artifacts weren't extremely interesting. We looked around and then left. Save your money and do the IFAN museum in Dakar.
