Marché soumbédioune

Tourist attraction Market

👍 Very nice craft market. However, be careful with the prices, do not forget to negotiate! Some sellers can be a bit pushy, but don't blame them there's a lot of competition, just push them back nicely! Otherwise you will find here variety of handmade and beautiful crafts. People often mention market, fish, local, souvenirs, negotiate, nice, items,

This is the perfect place for all your souvenirs while in Dakar. You will be pulled in and invited to every shop with all sorts of deals...and you will find fabrics, dresses, sculptures, paintings, handbags...and the list is endless! Bargaining is the way of life...so negotiate your way while in the market

Love the market Love the energy You are respectfully harassed , people hustling I prefer not to negotiate , life is hard and what is the value of a $1 saved in a market where people need to eat and survive while doing an honest living . Loe the vibrancy, history.. Highly recommend

Excellent fresh fish. You have to come after 5 till late. Fresh fish is sold on the beach and on the stalls. They will clean it for you. Grilled fish is available at the far corner to the canal. Don't worry about the canal. Its fresh and clean. If your choice is not among you buy it and they grill it for you for a small fee. I love the grilled oysters and mussels. You can buy prawns, tiger prawns lobster and shrimp. Some women sell vegetables and salad to complete your dinner. At the petrol station opposite you can get wine.

A nice market not far from the ocean. A perfect place to find ingredients for all sorts of local foods. What the market is most known for is its fish, freshly caught from the Atlantic Ocean. The craft market is located close by.

Everything there is overpriced. Better send a local to make purchases after you scouted items you want.

This place is a MUST SEE. You may see artisanal items around the city, however always compare the prices of this marché!

Nice place to buy some souvenirs. Some of the people working there are nice but there are others that insistently tell you to enter their shop, and that is not nice if each one asks you ten times. You should negotiate the price, it's their way of doing it and probably because we are white they ask around five times what it really costs.

Fish market - great to visit in the afternoon at ~4pm to watch the fishermen bring their boats onto the shore. The market itself is very smelly. Crafts market - sells a wide variety of classic souvenirs, including some wood carvings that are made onsite in the central part. Sells many wax fabric products too. Shopkeepers can be quite pushy, and you need to negotiate hard. I got some nice stuff here though.

Fun bit of local color. The market can be an overwhelming experience if you aren't used to markets in a third world country but is well worth a visit. Lots of locally made crafts and crafts imported from elsewhere in West Africa. The vendors are friendly if a but pushy. You will be everyone's friend and they will all make you a special deal that you can't tell anyone else about. And you will get to take home some reminders of your time in Senegal. The vendors always pay special attention to the kids and they will often go home with a trinket or two as a gift from a vendor from whom you are buying. Lots of fun.

Challenging experience. If you are unable to haggle you will be taken advantage of. There is artwork signed Diawlg. The work is on glass. I edited this review because I recently, months later found the missing items. The review said I was not given all the items I paid for. I may have been over charged but did get the items signed by Diawlg. The vendor next to him was trying to charge me $300 US for an African Dress. The dress was not custom made or silk. The only negative experience was the shopping with vendors. I went in March and despite not speaking the language and it being Ramadan I had a good time. Still be mindful when you shop.

a product 40000 cfa and you bargain and reduce it 4000 cfa. Then you feel good until you see the same product selling 3000 cfa. make bargain for woodens, fabrics, local thing (most of them come from Mali)

The Senegalese people are a beautiful people and their talents are beyond me! 2 of the many pieces I bought. If you can handle everyone calling you to buy something just do it!

Great place for Senegalese artisan goods and souvenirs. The best stuff is hidden within so don't settle for what's close to the street. Be ready to bargain - the correct price is 1/2 to 1/3 of the first price given.

Descent traditional fish market .... you need to know how to talk to the peoples or they will overcharge you... so it's better to go there with a local like that they will help you talk to thems for anything related to the price....

Great for pretty little mass produced souvenirs. Same items are sold in all the markets and wherever tourists go. Many nice things but almost none are handmade by artisans.
