The African Renaissance Monument is the tallest statue in Africa with a height of 52 meters. It was built to symbolize the future prosperity of the African continent.

I went there on a Sunday with my friend. It was not too crowded. The staff was kind and polite to everyone. They helped to de-escalate a conflict calmly. 👍🏾 For the tour we had 2 options: 1000 XOF for the 3 first floors (exposition); 3000 XOF for the 3 first floors and the highest floor (the top of the statue). We took the full experience and learned a lot about the establishment of the monument. ♥️

We went to the viewing of the Senegal vs Egypt game. It was a very beautiful experience. There were thousands of people present. My son kept saying he wanted to go to the top, so in the midst of the crowd, we were actually able to make it to the top. I visited the Monument on a normal occasion before to and I encourage every visitor from America to go.

There's no official parking, so We parked on a dirt lot across the street. As We approached the Steps there are Photographers that wear a museum vest, showing You a Printout of Single Picture. I asked the Price, he said 1,000cfa. He began taking several shots moving Us into different poses, taking Us up the stairs and taking more pictures turning this thing into a Photo Shoot. At the Top were Restrooms to the left and to the right was a container turned into a convenience store. I bought a Coca-Cola for 500cfa. We paid 3,000cfa per person, I'm guessing because I dressed like I was a National Citizen that day. Lol. The inside of the Monument was very informing especially having an English speaking tour guide. We seen three floors of history. Then returned back down to catch the elevator up to the fifteenth floor into the cap of the Statue. The View was worth being in that small elevator. The Monument represents Family leaving the past behind and seeing the Future. After the tour we went to Cafe at the bottom of the steps, while it was still under construction. We bought a Coca-Cola and Large water for 2,500cfa. The Photographer sits down at the Table and asked Us to receive the 80 pictures through Whats app. He then asked for 40,000cfa, My Wife then negotiated and We settled at 30,000cfa. He then proceeded to ask if We are going to Goree Island so He can take pictures of Us there. Overall is was a Great Experience.

What a great experience... from the "Welcome Home" to the beautiful wears at the vendors, to the food, to the interior of the monument.... Visiting Senegal is something I would suggest to all people, but especially brown people. After being told for hundreds of years that you and your history is inferior, it is refreshing to see that it's all a deception.

It is the tallest bronze statue in Africa, located on a 100 meter high hill called Colline des Mamel. The height of the statue is 52 meters. Worldwide, the height of the statue is outside the top 30. When you look up from the foot of the hill, its height and dynamicity are outstanding. It has become a landmark that can be seen from anywhere in the city. It depicts a family drawn up towards the sky, intended to herald a new era of African Renaissance. The message is that "an Africa emerging from the bowels of the earth, leaving obscurantism to go towards the light". There are quite a few steps, so climbing them is a good exercise. Looking up at the statue from directly below makes it even more impressive.

Great place to visit in Dakar. Costs 6,500cfa for a non-resident, and 3,000 for a resident. Good museum and excellent view from the top.

This is one of the biggest Monument in the World 49 feet height made by African President in 2010, This is triumph of African liberation and rival the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower as a tourist destination. Used very heavy weight Bronze metal for preparation of man 100Ton, Woman 70 Ton and Child 20Ton so it goes very costly to African government and estimated cost would be USD 27 million

This monument is said to be the tallest sculpture in the whole of Africa, standing at 49meters and stationed on a 100meter hill. Normally it's usually crowded but on this day it was very scanty, so it was easy to move around. Climbing up all the stairs to the base of the statue could be scary at first, but it gets easier as you ascend. There are country flags on the edge of the steps, and the view from the top is so breathtaking.

This monument is so beautiful and it is worth it to go and see. It's free if you want to just go by and take pictures. It's a massive structure. I did not walk all of the stares to the top, but if you do you will definitely get in your exercise for the day. I didn't do a tour or anything. I just took a taxi here and hung out for a while and then went and had lunch nearby.

It's a really nice visit. The museum ticket comes with a guide who explains the history of the monument and the art within the museum. I also went up to the hat of the father for a beautiful view of Dakar. The visit is worth climbing the stairs!

A must see when you visit Senegal. There's a nice guided tour (in French) that takes you through the displays. It's a nice place to learn about the African nations as many counties are part of the exhibits.

This is one of the most amazing monument in West Africa. This family sculptured from natural stone is an amazing example of Artistic talent in Africa. This is one place to visit when you are in Sénégal. The view of Dakar city is just unique from the top of the monument.

There are a lot of feelings one gets whenever life grants them a sighting of note. Climbing and looking down at Dakar from the top, One can't help but feel a profound sense of pride as an African citizen. One of the greatest monuments in africa.

AFRICAN RENAISSANCE MONUMENT = a very interesting statue that is considered as the tallest standing monument in Africa. We were lucky because we visited this place early in the morning after new year. So everybody was tired to wake up early so we owned the complete vicinity. Empty at even 11:22 a.m. almost noon time. To climb the 208 steps was a bit exhausting especially the time was limited for us to see the complete area. But on the top the view of Dakar is beautiful and good opportunities to take panorama photography. We were not able to come inside because at this time it was closed. It was 1st of January 2023. Maybe a rest day? But when we passed by in the afternoon we saw the whole stairs were filled with people already. So we were lucky to visit here in the morning so we were able to taken pictures without heads of people disturbing our picture frames :-).We recommend to visit this place if you are in Senegal.

Well done monument to the African Renaissance and history. The view as you ascend the steps up to the monument offers spectacular views of Dakar and surrounding areas. Many photo opportunities. The climb is somewhat challenging but completely doable with moderate level of effort. The museum portion is small but depicts and documents some of the history and struggles of the African people. Many West African countries are referenced as to the collective interactive history. Most displays are in French as is the narrative of the tour guide (easy to understand). The video depicting the construction of this structure is very informational. The trip to the top of the monument (room/chamber is inside the male statue head) is via elevator. The views from the chamber are outstanding. A tour of this monument is highly recommended with associated entrance costs of 6500.00 CFA for non residents and 3000.00 CFA for residents.

the is a MUST visit in Dakar Senegal. minus climbing the stairs to the top when it’s already over 90 degrees. the top was a bit rewarding because the breeze is soo fresh then there is the amazing views of Dakar . Inside there’s a museum then you can take an elevator to the very top of inside the head of the man part of the statue. it was very cool inside the museum and it was nice to experience the making of the statue, the history of Africa/Slavery and the family unit. highly recommend if your traveling.

I am impressed with the construction of the sculpture and the building. I also loved the storyline of the entire piece and what it stands for. My four star rating is due to the environment. I feel like we Africans should put in more effort in safeguarding and cleaning up our tourist locations. The environment of the Monument does not seem properly maintained. There were lots of debris, and the gardens should be better than they are. I recommend everyone to visit and see this magnificent piece.

A must see if you’re in the area. The size of this monument is nothing like I’ve ever seen. Enormous! No tickets necessary for seeing the outside. Vendors below drive a hard bargain. Some pushy most of them nice.

I liked it more than I expected. Inside the sculpture there are very interesting expositions about Africa. Tribes, meeting of 19 leaders that took place in Dakar and some memories about history of Senegal. Worth the visit. I need to mention that the guide who in principal spoke French, specially for me did always a resume in English. Bug Thank You from my side.

Come to your own decision on the artistic merit and sense of building this monument by visiting it yourself. It can be very windy here, so come prepared. After a guided tour you take the elevator up to the viewing platform. The monument has been here for about eight years now, and the surface is starting to get a little worn. Not sure if the North Korean engineers were prepared for the West African conditions.

Great Monument, certainly one of the must see sights in Dakar. Start of the Tour is a little chewy, but the view from the top is the best in town. Exit is a little difficult. Make sure you fin the small cashier window or a member of staff, even though everything appears to be closed.

It's a true emblem of Resistance. We enjoyed the monument and the area was well taken care of. If you decide to climb the stairs its 187 to the base of the Statue. You also have an option to go inside and and experience the look out that's windows in his hat.

For anyone visiting Dakar for any length of time, I would encourage a visit to the African Renaissance Monument!! The 49 m high bronze statue was built to symbolize the triumph of African liberation. Which makes it all that more special, as it represents all of Africa and not just Senegal. The monument itself is absolutely breathtaking, and has stunning views of the surrounding city. At certain times during the day, there is also the option to climb inside the male and female statues, to see even more of the city!!

The African Renaissance Monument was quite spectacular and truly quite the experience. However, there isn't enough or clear information on how to access the Monument or the museum. If you're only English speaking, you're in for a rollercoaster because no one speaks English, and even after paying, you don't get an English translator -1 star. Getting up to the museum is impossible if you're physically challenged unless you've arranged vehicle access -1 start. The museum was quite interesting, and the highlight was taking an elevator to the top floor (inside the head of the man) where there's a spectacular view of Dakar and an interesting view of the women's face and child. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would recommend it if you're in Dakar and don't have too much time for sightseeing.

Great experience indeed! The Monument de la Renaissance africaine is the symbol of African countries that they are exploited for long centuries, forcefully kept through poverty by the so called western world (you know what I mean), and now no more, the child of today is pointing arrow towards the western and European that we are getting ready to challenge you..... The history of Africa is very harsh, cruel and heart-rendering....

The guide Aziz was a great help as none of the information was displayed in English but he did a great job translating..for 5$ an elevator can take you all the way up in the hat of the man...worth it!!!

Yes, it is a large monument. And yes, it is slightly surreal to see this romanian sculpture (designed by Virgil Magherusan), built by North Koreans (Mansudae Overseas Projects), right on the African coast. I think the ressources could have been used in a better way. Three stars for the view.

An amazing place to see. Larger than life monument. Beautiful artwork. The views from the platform were outstanding and breathtaking!

To get to the sight you have to climb about 200 stairs to get to the top . It's free to access this sight from the outside. But for a few you can go in and take an elevator to the top of the man's head and get a 360 degree view of the surrounding area.

It was a great experience climbing all those steps to the top of the rennassaince monument and seeing how high it was.

It’s gorgeous, captivating, and informative. The only suggestion I have is to have the the writings in the gallery in English under the French. The Anglophone Africans would appreciate it 😊 I highly highly recommend it 🤍✨

A really astonishing monument. One of the biggest in Africa. You ca go to the top via an elevator. It is a place any tourist should visit whenever they're in Dakar. I recommend 💯.

Free entrance to visit the monument at any time of the day. Entrance fee only to visit the museum inside the monument and to go up in the lift for a 360° view of Dakar from above. You have to be brave enough to climb the many steps to get to the bottom of the monument. Otherwise, it is possible to access it from a paved road on the side / back of the monument with a car/taxi (if you have reduced mobility or don't have the courage to...).

I love that it’s not only Senegalese history but African history. There’s numerous gifts from other parts of Africa, a true representation of unity. The view from the top was exceptional.

This monument is massive & breathtaking. Ascending the stairs to reach the foot of it was quite the experience and the reward was well worth it. There is a lovely park behind the monument where you can sit and rest. A must-see in Dakar!

It's a great place to visit while in Dakar. The sculpture is very impressive and the guides are great at their job. It's a place that describes African Renaissance and has a lot of meaning. The view of the city of Dakar from the 15th floor is impressive

Beautiful place to start a visit in Dakar, learning about Black History by the very professional and welcoming guide. It has stunning views as soon as you have reached the highest point of the statue. You can't miss it!

Well located, nice view. Traditional monument sharing the idea of a new era, where respect and tolerance will be spreading out a generic 'no name' family, proud of the own roots and ready to look at the world 🌎 in the eyes

Great place to visit with people visiting Senegal for the first time. But be aware that there are 198 steps divided in blocks of 18 steps. Some people might have to take their time. You are only charged to go inside the structure. The outside visit is free. There is a garden on the back side, facing the ocean. There is also winding road by the garden. It might be possible to use it for people with diminished mobility. The inside visit requires to take some stairs also, but just a few and in the air conditioned building. I highly recommend it!
