I
was
just
about
to
go
there
for
an
appt
for
a
cardiac
consultation
and
saw
this
review
page!
I
want
to
add
my
personal
experience
with
my
son
who
was
there
for
4
days
in
their
hospital
unit:
GREAT
JOB!
I'm
American
and
have
been
living
in
Dakar
for
years.
Normally
we
go
to
Hospital
SAMU
where
we
also
had
EXCELLENT
treatment,
being
patched
up
(me
and
him)
after
motor
scooter
accidents!
But
this
time
we
ended
up
at
Phillipe
Senghor
after
my
son
literally
passed
out
after
taking
the
Senegalese
BAC
(independent
candidate).
He
was
enrolled
in
SABS
high
school
program
but
wanted
to
get
the
Senegalese
BAC
as
well
as
take
the
American
AP
tests
for
extra
credit
at
university;
so
basically
he
as
doing
three
separate
programs
in
one
year
and
all
the
stress
and
study
got
the
best
of
him
on
the
last
day
during
the
math
portion
of
the
test.
He
passed
out
at
his
desk
and
was
unable
to
complete
the
test.
FORTUNATELY
for
him
his
scores
were
high
enough
everything
else
that
the
average
grade
gave
him
a
passing
mark
so
that
was
a
blessing
from
Allah!
The
staff
took
him
to
Senghor
and
I
met
them
there.
From
the
FIRST
MOMENT
I
arrived
they
arranged
for
an
English
speaker
to
come
tell
me
what
happened,
where
to
go
and
what
was
involved
in
the
process
as
they
wanted
to
admit
him.
No
one
could
figure
out
why
this
physically
fit
18yr
old
athlete
suddenly
couldn't
walk,
had
a
massive
headache
and
couldn't
even
tolerate
sunlight...
I
think
they
thought
he
had
a
brain
tumor
or
something
and
didn't
want
me
to
be
upset.
It
turned
out
he
didn't
but
it
was
a
very
scary
time
as
you
can
imagine.
The
staff
were
tolerant
of
my
'American
ways'
lol!
and
very
helpful.
They
allowed
me
to
bring
items
from
home
to
block
out
the
sun
and
make
his
(very
basic,
reasonably
priced)
space
w/ac
and
flat
screen
tv,
clean
w/shower,
toilet
&
sink
separately),
a
private
room
more
livable
for
me/us
-
as
I
was
going
to
be
there
24/7
myself!
I
am
going
into
details
for
other
Anglophones
or
Americans
to
read
so
if
they
have
to
have
a
child
admitted
(or
themselves)
they
will
understand
the
process
and
know
that
IT'S
OK.
Just
go
with
the
flow,
FOLLOW
DIRECTIONS
and
let
them
do
their
job.
They
gave
me
the
list
of
items
I
had
to
buy
and
directed
me
to
the
nearest
pharmacy.
I
thought
it
was
odd
but
just
did
what
I
was
told
and
it
all
became
clear
to
me
later.
Here
in
Senegal,
YOU
are
responsible
for
ALL
the
products
that
are
given
during
admission/stay.
From
needles
to
saline
drips,
everything
-
and
at
first
it
seems
weird
but
it's
not...
I
was
able
to
inspect
everything
in
advance,
pay
and
be
responsible
for
whatver
went
in
his
body.
WE
as
consumers
of
medical
treatment
aren't
getting
ripped
off
like
in
the
US
with
overpriced
aspirin
and
$100
salt
water!
You
can
get
100%
of
what
you
need
in
a
hospital
at
ANY
pharmacy
and
pharmacies
are
literally
2
blocks
apart
here
in
the
city.
In
my
neighborhood
there
are
5
within
walking
distance,
a
private
hospital,
2
dentist
offices
and
Philippe
Senghor
hospital
is
3
blocks
away,
again,
walking
distance.
We
have
very
good
medical
coverage
&
treatment
in
Dakar
so
ignore
what
you
read
online
by
people
that
don't
live
here.
I
am
AMAZED
at
how
many
things
I
can
get
over
the
counter
at
the
pharmacy
(a
pharmacist
is
a
Dr
right???)
and
also
how
medical
treatment
is
relatively
speaking
from
where
I
came
from
in
America...reasonably
priced
and
fast.
You're
going
to
spend
a
couple
of
hours
and
Senegalese
complain
like
crazy
but
for
us,
Americans,
we
know
emergency
room
visits
are
an
all
day
ordeal
with
nurses
that
only
care
about
your
insurance
information!
I
paid
for
4
days
in
the
hospital
plus
food
(you
provide
your
own
meals),
treatments,
private
room,
meds,
exams,
testing,
x-rays
and
whatever
analysis
he
had
4
less
than
$400.
I
literally
went
to
the
atm
one
time,
got
the
$400
limit
and
had
money
left
when
we
went
home
AND
THEY
CARED
ABOUT
MY
KID!
They
even
wanted
to
know
about
the
test
results
(as
did
we!)
and
someone
sat
with
him
while
I
went
to
see
-
HE
PASSED
and
3
days
later
was
released.
THUMBS
UP
&
5*s!
