Unprofessionally run. I will never come back here after their horrific treatment of the State Street Coffee team, mandating they vacate so quickly, imperiling their business while telling customers the Alcove is simply “renovating”. Our memory is long and our crew of folks will never come back.

This is a shady business. The previous coffee shop here has been a staple of the neighborhood and was pulled up seemingly overnight with very little notice to the previous business that occupied this spot. Only to have the Alcove kick them out to open their own shop. This is NOT the same coffee shop the bar seems to be claiming it is. This is NOT a renovation. This is NOT a reopening. This is what stealing business looks like. Letting another business build clientele and rapport over nearly 10 and trying to steal it out from under them is a spineless move This is a business with a complete lack of integrity. Take your business elsewhere in the neighborhood.

A great place to grab a coffee and a snack. However the ownership has cause me to think differently about frequenting this establishment. State Street Coffee was a great coffee shop inside the Alcove with awesome service for 10 years. The Alcove recently decided to force State Street out of the Alcove without even a notice. They figured they make more money if they opened their own coffee shop. Totally get they want to make more money but at the expense of other people, who were good to you. Putting people out of jobs. Placing your wants above all others. Umm I’ll pass on whatever you have to offer in ur future life. I prefer to support people who care about others.

I've been going to the Alcove for years - had many memories of great days working with coffee and nights with girlfriends - even had my first date with my husband there! The service used to be unmatched, but has unfortunately declined the last couple of times we've visited. It was hard to get a smile or honestly even a word out of the bartender. I also just received an e-mail that State Street Coffee is closing - SUPER BUMMED to hear this, as it is our favorite place for coffee in Dallas. Mike is the best and the baristas always treat you like family! If anyone is looking for a GREAT cup of coffee, a cozy place to work, and great service, try one of his other places - La Reunion in Bishop Arts or Triumphs in the design district, you won't regret it!

I rarely ever leave reviews of establishments, but in this instance I feel that I absolutely must. Last night my husband and I went to have a glass of wine at The Alcove. We live in State Thomas and the wine bar is just down the street. The entire experience was terrible. It was unclear where to order and when I went inside to order, the atmosphere and folks at the bar were ICY COLD, VERY unwelcoming. Everyone knew each other's names which is awesome, but if they didn't know you, you might as well be invisible. They acted inconvenienced and annoyed when I tried to order. Then the bartender asked for my ID and she proceeded to scrutinize it and check the name also on my credit card. That's fine but I'm 33, not sure why the intense scrutiny. After I ordered they took their time getting the drinks as I awkwardly stood there waiting. How does this place stay in business? Please, just be kind to people... is that too much to ask? I'm so disappointed because I wished that it was a good experience because this place has so much amazing potential!!! To the owner(s) of The Alcove, if you consider yourselves a neighborhood bar then maybe try to be welcoming to folks other than your "Cheers crew." I feel embarrassed for you all and how you run your business. I know you've certainly not gained my business or my family or friends.

A friend and I came on a Sunday afternoon to drink coffee and talk. Once 3pm came up, the bartender put on the Rangers game at a noise level that interrupted our conversation. When we asked if the game could be turned down to a level that would allow for us to continue our conversation, the bartender ignored the request, and put on Pearl Jam at a noise level that made working or talking impossible, forcing us out. If you like heavy rock and stonewalling staff with your coffee and wine bar, Alcove is the place for you. If you want a comfortable place to drink and talk with friends, Alcove may not be your vibe

I loved State Street Coffee, and I was so excited to go back on my recent trip to Dallas. What happened? It’s not the same name, and the coffee is terrible. Can State Street Coffee come back please?? We miss you.

Small, cozy, unpretentious. My kind of place! If I was a native, I’d definitely be a frequent patron. Loved the big projector, drinks, and friendly staff!

When I first moved to Dallas I went here with a few girlfriends for wine + cheese. Great experience. The owner came up to our table and thanked us for our business and shook all of our hands. No one ever does that anymore and it really stuck with me in the best way. Since our experience, we've all been back many times. I should have wrote this review a long time ago - better late than never :) !

The Alcove is an amazing coffee shop with a great atmosphere. Hayden was friendly, professional, and provided great service! This shop is a great place for a quick stop or a peaceful stay.

The Alcove hosted a private birthday party event for us, and we could not have been happier with the outcome! Everyone had a tremendously good time surrounded by amazing people!. The alcove is one of our favorite spots for sure!!!! Excellent wine & beer selection with delicious food!!!

Came in at 10:55pm. I asked for a coffee and something to eat, they are open to midnight. He said nope, closed the coffee and food. I then asked can I buy a non alcoholic drink, he said they are closing in 20 minutes, 45 minutes before closing. Terrible customer service, they will not last like this,

it's like Cheers in uptown! A down to earth place for good food craft beer and great wine. Atmosphere is very relaxed and everyone is very friendly, in cool weather it's great to hang on the front patio to meet and watch people!

We had my bridal shower here on a Friday evening in August at 7:30pm and the owner let use most of the seating area inside. We invited 40 and only about half showed up, typical! Phil the owner was very accommodating and allowed for us to bring our own food and drinks. All we had to do is spend $250 and not bring pizza, since that is what they specialized in. We preordered the wine bottles and ordered 5 pizzas when we got there. The pizza was absolutely delicious! The only problem was they only had limited ingredients, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and giardiniera. We had to order cheese and mushrooms for the non-pork eaters. Luiz, the bartender was so awesome and very down to earth. The other owner, Jason seemed like he got a little annoyed with us at one point. Parking is limited in the street but there is a parking garage in the back for residents in the area. The bar in located near lots of residences so there were lots of locals. During the day they have coffee until 3pm, reminds me of Central Perk from Friends 😁

Cool little niche of a place on the street corner to grab some coffee and a snack. Not a lot of room inside, and it really doubles as a bar, so not your usual coffee shop vibe, but overall good.

Awesome spot to work. I definitely will be back. Their soup was delicious and their atmosphere felt very laid back but also gave a vibe to work.

kind bartender and lovely atmosphere. I had a long layover in dallas and stopped to get some work done here, and it’s a cozy welcoming space.
