This is the finest pub I've ever visited. I'm considering having my mail forwarded and changing my address to this little portal to heaven. The food, drink, service AND atmosphere are unsurpassed! There are few places I give bad reviews, but even fewer get glowing reviews... The Playwright is most deserving of the latter. Come one, come all, come try The Playwright and enjoy a bit of Irish excellence in downtown Dallas!

Had met some friends here since the Yolk was too busy and we ended up enjoying ourselves more here. Didn’t drink but they had some cocktails and Irish drinks that looked good. I had the coconut curry that was absolutely delicious, I’d probably get that every single time I go there. The chicken was definitely marinated in spices and the basmati rice was cooked right. My girlfriend, however, got the Uncle Sam dish and hated it. The pancakes were hard, the biscuit was even harder (like a rock), the eggs were supposed to be over-easy but they were too fried and not runny. Also, service was really slow and it was not that busy.

Everything was wonderful! I went here on a date with my boyfriend and got the Fish n' Chips with Guinness Cheese! (I wanted to take a gallon of that cheese home! Lol) Our waitress was a tad nervous, but very nice, hospitable and attentive. She did a phenomenal job and I hope to see her again! Thank you, Kyla!

I had a wonderful time at The Playwright! We went there after the place we wanted to go to ended up being permanently closed, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great whiskey list, the old fashioned was perfect. Everything we ate was DELICIOUS. We had Wisconsin spicy cheese curds, the monte cristo and the Johnny jump up burger, then ended with the brown bread ice cream. Nothing disappointed!

We are here last night and it the food was DELICIOUS!! Look at the fish and chips~~ It was about a foot long solid piece of fish. And the hamburger had wonderful flavor. Also the music was just the right volume so we could talk to each other without yelling 😂 which was a huge plus and oddly hard to find.

An actual Irish bar. Irish music plays on the speakers, they have several Irish beers (not just Guinness), and it’s clean with great food! Food includes shepherds pie, bangers and mash, and corned beef with cabbage. Definitely family friendly and they have some great specials through the week with 2 for 1 fish and chips on a Monday night and $5 Irish pints on a Tuesday.

We love this place and wish we could visit more often. This last time we had the mac and cheese which is always delicious. The Monte Cristo was also excellent. They made a grilled cheese with just cheddar for our son who loved it. The pretzels were also good especially with the Guinness cheese dip. I had a flight of eggnog which I really enjoyed. I hadn't thought of those flavor combinations before, and especially liked the orange and mint ones. The desserts are also quite tasty, and the service was great.

Who knew an Irish pub would have curry chicken?! I know what you're thinking, but if my friend from Ivory Coast says it's good then it's good! It really is a lot of food and tastes more like Indian curry. Loved the $5 mimosas and the vibe was more welcoming than Yolk. We sat and ate a whole meal here waiting for a table from Yolk but they NEVER contacted us. Don't waste your time, just walk over to the pub!

Came here after an event at the symphony and had a good experience. I highly recommend the duck wings as an appetizer! We had fish n chips & the shepherds pie, both were pretty good.

I keep forgetting to post my review about this nice little pub. The decor of the place is a pub 👌🏼 😎 but on to the food, my husband heard about the fish and chips here, and he knows I love a good fish and chips 🍟 😋 🙌🏼 when I ordered the fish 🐟 I was expecting to see like you normally get, the cod shaped fish that you see at other places, boy was I wrong. When she placed the food in front of me I was like, wow that's a whole fish 😳 and dove right in, the batter was nice and crispy but not too crispy, just the right crisp. The fish was so good and easy to eat 😋 I enjoyed the fries that came with it but I didn't really like the coleslaw. My only complaint about the fish was the batter fell off 😩 lol I wish it stayed on it but I still devoured the food 💕 our appetizer was fried corned beef & cabbage eggrolls, it was ok but I should have taken a picture of my husband's burger 🍔 he had the Jameson burger and I took a bite of it and my taste buds where so happy at the flavor that burger has 😋 but we will back someday cause I love my fried fish 🐟

Our burgers were raw. The food took 40 minutes to come out. We had no drink refills even after asking, no silverware or napkins. Went to the manager who promised to being water in "just a second" and never did. Yes they had a full dining room but they exist for the show crowds. The whole reason restaurants want to be in the arts district is because of the ticket holders going to shows and the performers who have limited time between shows. Get it together!! Left after an hour having only had water and a few fries. Burgers couldn't be eaten. They comped our ticket but we needed a meal.

Fantastic Place, I love hidden gems that end up being affordable. This places food is amazing and their drinks are reasonably priced. Plus they have specials throughout the week. Been there twice and both times service was phenomenal. One of my favorite date night spots, lots of ice cold draft selections

While this place is a little pricey, (but the good food is worth it for sure!) The atmosphere is phenomenal. I and my fiancee stopped to get a bite to eat and we were immediately greeted and sat down as soon as we entered. Our waitress was on top of her game, and very friendly. Definitely a place to go for good drinks and good food on a Friday night.

Fun place with indoor bar seating and outside porch seating. The outdoor booths are wide fitting! The indoors has a lot of high tops . Great music and chill environment. Our server Hillary was real sweet and attentive. The curry was quite good and it's the best Monte Cristo I've had in a long time! They have happy hour fare. Oh, and they validate parking!

Update: New menu, same great staff. Love it here. My husband and I love this place. Never have had a bad meal... actually, we've never disliked anything we've ordered here. They have whiskeys I've not been able to find elsewhere in the States, and the bread pudding... it's not to be missed. YUM!

Traditional Irish Pub with a welcoming vibe. I was there on a Wednesday night, so weekends could be entirely different. They were playing Christmas music and there was a cheerful buzz about the place. It just felt cozy. Half off Wiskey in Wednesday! Although I opted for a Half n Half. Good food options and a kitchen that is open late made it a good place to visit with friends after a show.

Very cool Irish pub with a great variety of drinks and beers. Food options are good too, the Johny Jump Up burger was really good. The best I had today was the What the Phunk? cocktail, it was unique and delicious. Then I had El Diablo, great for those who like Mezcal. Will stop by here every chance I get.

Loved this place -- we will be back. Sat on the back patio, weather was perfect. Henry our server took great care of us -- recommended the Scottish Eggs. So we had the Scottish eggs thinking "light bite"... then after finishing those needed to order a second plate of them! Snakebite with Magners Cider went really well with. Overall really refreshing drink. I got the Irish Mule too and it was great!

What an amazing Irish Pub! We were on our way to watch the Opera and had a very short time to snack. The service was incredibly fast and the food was delicious. Everyone had a smile on their face, even when it was busy! We will definitely be back!

I’m pretty disappointed with my latest experience at the Playwright. I’ve been here several times but never have I been served food that is just plain old and past it’s prime. I don’t go out to a restaurant to pay to eat heated up leftovers. I ordered the pub curry on the recommendation of the wait staff and the chicken was straight up chewy and tough like it had been sitting in a refrigerator for a week. I’m honestly upset with myself that I ate it at all. My stomach felt horrible afterwards all evening and I’m used to eating hot curries. It was truly a disgusting meal. Giving the benefit of the doubt that the rest of their food is fresh but please don’t cut corners to try to save money by serving folks old poultry in a soup format.

Had the Monte Cristo....very good. Service was fine. When you go to an Irish Pub, you kind of expect to hear Irish music. Be aware of their specialty drinks. $14...a bit pricey.

Service was pretty good. The atmosphere was great. Outdoor seating was nice. Drinks were good. The food was not great. It wasn't bad, but I won't be back unless Im just getting drinks. The fish and chips tasted bland. The breading reminded me of a corn dog's breading and there was alot of it. The wings were just okay.

Not good. My mom and I stopped here for a quick drink before a show. We sat down and watched as Brian, the waiter, saw us, but did everything he could to not serve us. Seriously. It's a good thing a nice lady named Courtney came up and apologized and really saved the day.

This is a great addition to the Dallas Arts District. It is a great pub with a relaxing atmosphere. I highly recommend going before or after a show. The food is amazing and they have a large selection of whiskeys and a good selection of beers on tap.

My meal was delicious, but the service was terrible. My brother-in-law tried to order several different drinks, but they were out of several options. It then took twenty minutes longer for him to get his meal than the rest of our party.

An Irish pub with great staff and authentic Irish feel. The staff have customer service down and the food was the best Irish dishes in the area.

The staff was very nice but ignored our table the entire night. They greeted us and took our drinks order when we walked in but took an hour to take our food order, and even then we had to wave down someone to take our order. About 45 minutes later (and the rest of our party getting food/drinks at least two times) asked where our 3 appetizers were and they said they lost our ticket. In all, it took about two hours to get our food. By then half of the private group we were with was gone.

It's a cool place with great outdoor seating. There are the irish pub standbys like fish and chips and a scotch egg. The food was basic, nothing great but nothing terrible. The service was messy. Literally. The water was slammed down, spilling large swaths across the table. The menus dropped to the ground. Sauce containers dropped to splatter their contents in wide patterns. We watched as several waiters brought drinks outside only to turn around because they were meant for inside. Maybe the staff was brand new. So not a bad place but don't expect much.
