Its very unpredictable with this restaurant, sometimes you get treated with a smile and food comes on time but sometimes you will have to wait over an hour. Today we waited for 1.5 hours and there was no regret or apology on staff members face. The staff members explanation was “there were two big tables before you so we have to serve them and then we will serve you”. People were seated after us and they almost finished their meals and 1 hour later he mentioned there is no chicken available in the kitchen so we quickly ordered lamb. Then we waited again for an extra 25 minutes for our food to arrive. After 1.5 hours we were so hungry, we decided to leave and went to another indian place that was busier than this place we were served in 15 minutes. If you cant run a restaurant when it’s busy, may as well close it down.

Word to the wise, save your money and health! Bought ladoos and rasmalai from this store to celebrate an occasion. Found out all laddoos had fungus and rasmalai milk was bad. Went next day to return and owner denied the product is from her store as they don't use home brand containers.Freaks! Only agreed when I asked her to bring tray of ladoos from her store and all laddoos had fungus. She not only failed to acknowledge her store mistake but also blamed me for keeping sweet long time at home and bringing it back when it got bad to blame her! WHO DOES THAT?? Finally she put all blame on chef wherever it's their mistake of not keeping sweets at right temperature. Will never visit back for sure!!

Went for lunch on recommendation. Not sure what was up with the front cashier but he was frazzled from the start. We entered saying we needed a table for 6 after which we ordered. He came with 6 naans when we ordered 2 and insisted we ordered 6 when we tried to explain to him that this is clearly a mistake (we had to pay for it too). He gave me a butchers knife (that you cut meat with) when I asked for a knife to cut the paratha up for my daughter as it was hot and he gave a spoon when we asked for a takeaway container so clearly something was up with him. We ordered the Kashmiri chicken and chicken korma: both tasted exactly the same with so much salt it was inedible. It bewildered us that they would you serve the same curry twice and call them different names! Was not accomodating with paratha filing spice levels and we used to live in the western suburbs and been to many Punjabi style restaurants who have accommodated this. Overall a poor experience :(

Food tastes good, but service is pathetic, i had to wait more than an hour to be seated and additionally had to wait 30 mins for food and food order was served was wrong. We asked for tandoori parantha but got tawa and we saw the kitchen staff microwaving bathura. I had the worst experience will never come back!

Ordered papdi chaat, paneer jalfarezi, chicken vindaloo, kashmiri chicken and naan.Papdi chaat and paneer jalfarezi were nice. Kashmiri chicken was bit salty but was manageable. However the chicken vindaloo was pathetic , extremely salty and inedible could just have one bite and when I went to ask if anything can be done about it the owner's response was extremely rude and inconsiderate! He said "that's how we make it and it is supposed to be spicy". I said "there is a difference between spicy and being extremely salty, and it's so salty that it's inedible!" The owner took permission to taste it and said " naah that's perfectly fine that's how we make it sorry can't do anything about it". However later came to replace the chicken vindaloo with chicken jalfarezi we said thank you, he was again rude and said "naah taste it first". Not recommended at all and would never come here again. Reply- Instead of disrespecting and calling out customers to "stop acting like children" improve the quality of your food and customer service and learn the difference between 'being spicy' and 'being salty'. Talking about finishing food - As I said paneer jalfarezi and chaat were nice, and because we paid 26 dollars for the chicken dishes we did have the chicken pieces!! Left your flavourless curry. Lastly who are you to say "first your partner commented and now you?" We just shared our experience at Shehnai, you are no one to point it out and be rude here as well!!

Order Paneer Jalfarezi and Papdi chaat were good. However, Chicken Vindaloo was extremely salty and not that spicy. Chicken Kashmiri was also salty. When I brought this concern to the attention of the owner, he tried to argue with us and was rude as well as inconsiderate. However he later came to change the base which was also not authentic at all. Very bad experience not recommended.

I love this place. The door shouts out 'Indian Sweets' and the neon light out front is never on so I tentatively peered in through the window to see if they also served meals. Yep, they certainly do. A very varied selection of dishes that are not the standard fare one gets at your local Indian takeaway. My favourite has to be the Kashmiri Style Beef and Goan Style Vegetable Curry. The pricing is reasonable and is such that you can order two small serves to at virtually the price of a large serve...and their serves are generous. Rice is charged extra. Naan is white fluffy and in one word superb. The dine in surcharge has been dropped and although it looks quiet they do quite a sizeable trade in Take Aways. This restaurant is a survivor and has been serving quality Indian dishes since 1984. Heartily recommend you to try their food.

First time visited. Food was good. Restaurant and bathroom very clean. Small run family business. Free drinking water supplied. Other customers also raved how good it was. Will be returning!

Good customer service. This place is mainly good for choley bhathure and snacks. Not recommended for mains dishes.

We tried the aloo parantha, Lamb Pulao, Garlic naan and Dal Makkhani. The food here was authentic and tasty. Price is reasonable and same as any other Indian restaurants in Melbourne.

Came for lunch and had the cholley bhature- two stretchy fried pieces of bread with an amazing chickpea curry. A very generous and filling lunch for $10. I also had a great samosa I didn’t need. Will be back to try other dishes. Amazing!

Probably the most genuine pricing I've seen in a while, the half is actually half the price of full. Not just that, the guys there are pretty respectful and always talk in English. I liked the fact that they don't have any unnecessary menu's and just one black board menu, for all. Recommendation: replace the plastic straws with paper or find a more eco friendly alternative. Regardless, you guys deserve 5 star. The food as compared to many other Indian restaurants was ok.

If anything this place has gone better in taste each time I visit. Chole Bhature are the best. Bhature is not oily at all and chickpeas are amazing. Aloo paratha is like real home made paratha and reminded me of back home. A must visit.

Have visited a few times now.. Simple, home cooked North Indian curries, parathas & daals. My partner and I visit often, we love the aloo paratha, chicken pulaav (must try) and butter chicken & butter paneer. Limited menu but every item on there is delicious.

Have been buying Jalebi and sweets from here for a long time. Bought some Jalebi and sweets this week and was the worst jalebi I have had in a long time, was not expecting it to be that bad. It was in a pile of dough, soggy, soft and not crunchy at all. Could have been stale or from day before but the quality has gone down in the last few visits and wondering if the sweet makers in the kitchen have changed!!

Stopped here by chance looking for a quick feed. Ordered a lamb vindaloo and chicken tiki masala, food was really good! Tastes just like a home cooked meal. The staff are v friendly and the prices are great. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent service and awareness of allergies. Dessert options are the best I’ve had, not only the flavour but the range. Cannot complain about a single thing and plan to come back again for sure

The owner is so customer friendly that despite the restaurant being closed, he entertained our order based on a special request. Chicken tikka was mouth watering.... I'll highly recommend this place for one of the juiciest Motichoor ladoos in town.
