The icon of dar es salaam city, it have nice garden with colourful flowers. If you visit dar es salaam, this is the best monument. Though it is located in city center where the streets are busy during workdays.

After the conclusion of the First World War in 1918, a significant shift occurred in the global political landscape. With the defeat of Germany and its allies, the world was in the midst of reshaping itself, and this transformation was marked by various symbolic gestures and monuments. One such noteworthy monument was the raising of a statue that commemorated the African warriors and acknowledged their vital contributions to the war effort. This statue stood as a powerful symbol of recognition and gratitude for the African soldiers and laborers who played an often overlooked but crucial role during the First World War.

This is a historical landmark which goes back way far in the independence era. It is also among the iconic points of the city centre called new postal. The area around is the home of most government offices and not too far from the state house too.

I normally see it along the way as I pass on to go to some other place in the city centre. I always use it as a reference point if I am to ask for directions. That's it.

  • 5/5 Jaydeep V. 1 year ago on Google
Created as a tribute to African soldiers who fought WW1. However, sadly reduced to roundabout at present. Lack of information and awareness has reduced it's importance. Maybe in future it will be renovated and improved.
