Good location and nice view from rooms but the hotel needs alot of maintenance. The rooms are big but cleaning is done partially. When i got in,i was welcomed by bad smell and had to sneeze every time i lay on bed. Bathrooms are the worst, stains all over and water floating on floor after taking shower. Nice service by the girls at the reception but it’s terrible service in night shifts especially by the man who use to do most of those shifts. He will charge 25$ for anybody who wants to visit you claiming to be extra customer even though he/she isn’t staying over.

It has been twice in a row. If you are rich or want to donate your money or belongings, you are at the right place. Last year, hotel staff opened the safe of targeted visitors with their own keys and stole money inside. Plus, recently, some belongings of visitors were stolen. What is fascinating is that staff are never cooperative and helpful. If you lose something here at the hotel, consider it as it is done with you.

The building is very opulent. The facilities are plentiful, and include a swimming pool overlooking the ocean, a gym, and various cafes and restaurants. Wi-Fi is good and available across the hotel’s grounds. Breakfast is a large buffet that includes various juices, fruits, salads, cereals, hot dishes, toast & jams, pastries, and an egg station for fresh omelettes etc The hotel lets itself down with the service of its staff and overall attention to detail. Small things like a dead mosquito on the bed, batteries not working in the devices, and cleaners taking bath towels and not replacing them while you’re at breakfast. Reception requests are treated with resentment. When an additional towel was requested (only one was available on arrival despite being a twin) it never came and had to be asked for again. The pool bar menu looks good but three times our waiter returned to tell us the original and alternative items were unavailable. Cocktails were watered down. At breakfast we waited around ten minutes for coffee and a poached egg only to receive a hard boiled egg and a bottle of water in error. The hotel also charges a hidden government tax at check out of $1.5 per person per day despite 18% taxes and fees paid through Expedia at booking. There seems to be a lack of basic organisation and leadership. Management is poor and appears disinterested in feedback. There is little evidence here of a customer focus.

We booked this hotel last minute as we lost our flight and got stuck in Dar-Es-salaam. When we arrived it took a little while for the receptionist to find our booking in the system. The bedroom we booked was the cheapest option available (a twin), the bathroom and bedroom need some TLC but nonetheless the shower was very good and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast options were enough, beverages ordered separately, these took long to come despite being simple orders (black coffees) and despite the big amount of waiters/waitresses and the few guests. Bathroom towels not enough for the amount of guests, some of my toiletries have been used by someone while we were not in the room. The staff seems unhappy and frustrated and I strongly believe this is due to lack of proper guidance, training and good management which is a true shame as the location is great and the building is stunning. Full of potential but unfortunately doesn't deliver. Overpriced for sure and there are better options around.

The location of the hotel is amazingly beautiful, the rooms are really needs lots of attention and maintenance. The prices at the restaurants are not reasonable at all and very unbelievably high. The restaurant management is way don't know how the business is run. I would advise everybody staying in the hotel to be aware of this, which was our reason to cancel the booking. Otherwise the staff are nice and willing to help.

Ridiculous service, just to sit by the pool they charge 10,000 kids or adult 20,000 to use the pool. Despite of the fact we would have eaten lunch ordered a bottle of wine they thought 50,000 was more precious to them. Do not waste your time to even stay here. I'm sure there will be alot of hidden fees everywhere. Living in a city like dar es salaam surrounded by the ocean every corner has an ocean view so whats so special about paying something where you can get the same at coral Beach resort for free with lunch and better views. This review is coming from someone who has lived abroad and has experienced alot of countries surrounded by ocean. So do not waste your money

We booked a room "with an ocean view" 3 months before arriving and ended up with a shabby room on the main floor that was actually below ground level.. NO ocean visible... not even close...sliding glass door to balcony was broken and would barely open 12 inches, room was old and worn out.. staff was pleasant tho...

Awesome location with helpful staff and cordial hospitality. I enjoyed the food served in the breakfast and loved the windy view of the Indian Ocean. Access to the beach could have made it fabulous. Anyway, the rooms need serous attention. Surprisingly, some of the basic amenities were either missing or not functional in the room.

First ⭐️ location, right on the beach, big in size, massive pool, great place to host a wedding or business function for 100 plus easy, its in the heart Masaki short tuk tuk from all the restaurants bars, shopping. Second and third⭐️ facilities and the hotel itself, im sure back in the day it was the place to be,im told its previous owner General Gaddafi had a chain of these hotels. Whilst it is dated, it does retain its charm. The beds are so comfortable I didn’t want to get up,😴 the comforter was just that, comfy, it felt as tho I was being hugged all night. The pillows were like sleeping on ☁️clouds☁️ A working fridge, Tv, room with a view of the ocean and the gardens, a bath tub with hot water and great water pressure, things we take for granted until you move to Africa. Loss of the remaining ⭐️s for over all rating, the breakfast was not properly maintained, we arrives at 9 half the buffet was empty, the remaining food was all dried out. The service was mediocre, the concierge was super friendly and helpful, the safe wasn’t working, he had a maintenance guy there with in minutes, he couldn’t fix it so he up graded us to a better room. The receptionist was equally as friendly the 2 people you want to be amazing as they are the first greeters. I would definitely stay hear again, it is over priced for the state of the place, lamp shades are old and mouldy looking its in need of a revamp. But like i said best nights sleep ever. 🥱😴😴

They have an amazing view of the ocean, the location of the pool is against the ocean, giving such cool vybes. The service is good, and friendly, the breakfast is pretty good, there are a couple of options, which is always good. The rooms to the left seem renovated and better than the ones on the right wing, so that's good, rooms are clean and airy, big windows for the breathtaking view.

We came for the day to use the pool - at just $10 it’s well worth the money. Lovely view over the sea, clean pool, friendly service and clean towel provided 👍

The pool is very dirty it’s even slippery inside. Changing rooms are even worse no place to even sit as one is changing no place to put the belongings, everyone must scramble for a place in one small table, toilets are dirty they are worn out. Water in the bathrooms is an issue as well. Honestly the pool and bathroom complains you have to take it serious people can get sick from all that dirt in the water. Do you guys not see it? There is so much dirt in the pool it’s disgusting. For a hotel that you claim to be 5 star should do better. Clean the pool please and can you make sure the pool also a way to get in, like you make it hard for people to leave the pool not everyone is a diver so kindly have those accessible stairs to go in and come out of the pool. Plus can you have a pre shower before people enter the pool. The amount charged for just swimming is alot for you not to care about the pool. The staff are not well dressed they look depressed and not happy so service become bad automatically. FIX YOUR POOL PLEASE.

Visited the place for a first time for a dinner in order to see if the place commendable for a friend who is about to travel and wanted to stay there. And here is what I have gathered: 1. The reception was nice and we were welcomed by charming waiter who led us to the Jiko bar and grill 2. They have good wines but not the best ones to say the least. 3. We ordered grilled chicken and that was when everything became vice versa. First it took more than 30mins to get the meal and furthermore they brought the first meal and the second meal took another 5mins to be brought at the table. And if that is not enough, the chicken was burnt to the point that we couldn't eat it. And when we returned it to the kitchen the chef said he wanted to make it well done while he or she wasn't asked to do so. Thirdly, the fries were not fresh, they were 're-fried' a couple of times if not 2 times and were oily. Above all, the chicken wasn't tasty at all. The only thing that was good, were the mashed potatoes and I liked them. In conclusion, it being an exotic place and at the beach, I think more attention is needed on what kind of food is being made and how it is made. Hospitality is good, but I think the management has to make sure that they make the best out of good and quality food

The receptionists at the restuarant are slow and disinterested. At check in the lady gave us a room with a door that didn't lock. After realising in the night we called the gentelman at the reception and he couldn't be bothered till I walked to the reception area and he just ignored me after my insistence he called the maintenance guy. Moving us to another room was also a great struggle. The gentleman that helped with our luggage is honestly on the wrong job as he was very unhelpful, infact he seemed angry at us. The breakfast and the staff handling the breakfast are so great. The pool is great too. I would come back to use the pool but not to stay there.

Shocking place, no duty of care - people falling around pools as tiles are 20 years old and have work out. Cost for sitting there is extortion. Greedy

The contact on their page mostly never picked up. Wondering what customer service this is, it is best to work on that because some people are not walk in guests and there is something information we need prior to booking which is best to speak to the person in charge

A breathtaking view, an amazing restaurant by the seashore and an infinity pool makes a great combo. The Zika restaurant serves Indian vegetarian dishes as well. The only issue is the breakfast, too few options and doesn't do justice with the splendor of the hotel.

Bad maintenance. Bc it was also low season, it gave me an abandoned vibe. Much potential if they maintaned it better. Specially the outside pool area and bathroom in the room. Staff was nice. Breakfast was also nice.

I had the pleasure of spending 9 nights at this wonderful hotel. The staff are extraordinary. I appreciate that bottled water is offered at breakfast, and the menu changes slightly every day. There's a wine and cheese shop, a coffee shop, and restaurants on site, so traveling is not necessary. The swimming pool and view are incredible.

Great place, the pool is amazing with a great sea view. Warm and friendly staff, Juma was good in welcoming me and general directions within the facility. Rooms have sea facing balconies for a nice relaxing breeze. I found it quite odd that you have to pay on check in rather than during check out.

Came today from Morogoro and my god this o nice compare to what we endured last week. Clean, courteous staff and the food is recognisable! Decor seems to follow the standard theme in these parts of dodgy tiling and painting but not an issue really. Missing a bath plug but that is all I can fault so far.

Horrible experience. First I would like to start with my reception. I had a guest with me who had a flight in the next three hours and I was forced to pay 20USD in order for the guest to stay otherwise both of us won't be let in. I paid because I was tired and it was my first time in the area. I went into the room and it was an eye sore and here comes my second review. Why would you extort from your guest and still can't maintain your rooms. Black spots on ceiling. Leaking toilets. Dirty showers. Hotel needs a total renovation.

Been here thrice now.. to be honest, the location is super. The food could be improved- the portions for the price of the food.. I paid 5000/- for a plate of fries and I could literally count the fries on my plate (sevice by the pool).. I had ordered a whole chicken; it took an hour, and it came cold and tbh.. the fries were the most disappointing part. Otherwise the waiters are very hospitable and kind. Lastly, a recommendation.. how do people on the deep-end get out of the pool? I mean there are no pool stairs and the pool is surrounded by tiles which makes it very slippery and unsafe to get out. Kindly look into that.

  • 1/5 Lam T. 1 year ago on Google
Location is about 30min away from the airport and view from the cliff was amazing. Thats all what is fine. Room has no net. The Hotel (Mr Goodfree) is not even honest. Unfortunately he said that he would organize us one for the other night but then we still didn't got one. Pool looks good but it isn't clean at all. Restaurant is bad and the service is bader bc they not even listen to us and brought the plate to the wrong table. That's not even the highlight bc we had to wait over 1.5h to get the first plate. Sry but I cant recommend this place.

Poorly maintained gardens. Erratic WiFi on the 1st evening (resolved on day 2) Satellite TV was not working (This was resolved) The property is in need of maintenance. My room was overlooking what looked like a construction site within the hotel grounds.

Beautiful location and view. Not the best place to take any small videos though using a mobile stand. We were told the mobile stand looks like we are having a professional video shoot. I do understand that, but why the same for small videos for Instagram? They could have just said to tag them as well or something. This is why TNZ is very behind on digital marketing.

The Lobby and pool area are beautiful. But even better is the receptionist Godfrey. It’s the most motivated and helpful person I’ve met in Tanzania. This man deserves a big raise, he makes the hotel so much better and he is the reason for a 5-star rating!

  • 1/5 Lucie B. 1 year ago on Google
We went to this hot for a very expensive (and not really good) lunch and still had to pay 10000 TSH each to have access to the swimming pool. When you apply this kind of rates (when other hotels ask for 3000tsh) you must not have a dirty pool water, dirty pool area (bird feces, old chewing gum, others...) and certainly not rusty long chairs, stained towels with holes. Not a good experience.

Excellent location, spectacular view, soothing ambiance, very clean, amazing value for 90+usd. Food!!! I'm a chef by trade, the flavour of food, freshness and preparation skills are above many other hotels. I had Lobster Thermidor for dinner, the best I had in many years from a tourist class hotel; AND the price is very reasonable. Breakfast buffet 4/5 good. I have been in 9 different hotels in Tanzanian in the past two months, GTD is the only hotel offers freshly ground cappuccino with the breakfast buffet. This is a prescious perk!! I hope more people will learn to appreciate slow coffee, not instant ones. Good service, above Tan standard. It is NOT possible to sleep-in after 8 am or sit in the restaurant quietly. Noise control is an issue. Staff: plates clanging, loud joking, talking in hallway in a partying manner. Guests: Please be considerate to your other paying customers; ask in a friendly way to remind guests that there are people around who appreciate low volume, tranquility and private conversations. There's absolutely no need to yell to people's friends when they are sitting next to eachother. AND please keep your phone volume down!!!! Pool area is well designed. No pre-dip shower beside the pool, therefore, pool is likely contaminated with sweat, body lotion and pee. I wouldn't even dare put my fingers in. Property architecture and decor are impressive, rich with dutch, Britian and Arabic influences. I'm very happy with my experience so far - I'm still staying there so I hope the satisfying experience remains.

Excellent location. Excellent staff. Not very expensive, but location is just AWESOME. Very nice GYM (sea facing). Two restaurants (one Swahili and one Indian). Jiko (Indian) serves very nice Pizza and sandwiches. Infra is kind of old and not very well maintained, but all in all very nice place to stay.

Ok, positives.....they washed, dried, and pressed 1 shirt, on a sunday, in about an hour. The view is incredible, and when I say incredible, I mean incredible, and as usual, the workers are very kind. They have a decent enough gym, and the building is beautiful. They accommodated, my special dietary restrictions as well. However, this place is noisy, noisy and noisy. For a place like this expensive, you should not have to listen to Bongo flava music, at 19,000 decibels. I called to reception, and asked them to turn the music down. 10 minutes later, it started all over again. I went down to reception, and the night manager, looked at me, like I was the problem. I walked up to the pool bar, and complained. The pool manager, agreed, and suggested to turn it down, as they had a complaint from the other side of the hotel. After about 15 minutes, you could still hear the big screen TV of World Cup, and the music got louder and louder. I asked the waitress, who brought my food if she could hear it, and she said yes. She told me she would go and speak to the manager. After the Golden Tulip bar turned down the audio of the soccer match, the next door neighbors, which i heard was a police station....cranked up their speakers. So when there is no noise coming from the bar..it comes from the police station, and all you hear is bass. If I was the manager of the hotel, I would call the police commissioner and complain. This hotel, is in a beautiful neighborhood, right on the cliff wall facing the ocean. The beauty of this place is ruined by thumping bass. Also, the pool was not clean, and not because it had rained, it was chalky when I showed up, which is a shame. Would i come back and use the pool, and the view? Yes. Stay in the hotel? Not a chance

Tried to book this hotel through a reservation centre in France. Said if i want to cancel, have to do it one day on advance. Needed reservation to get an e-visa. They took details but never sent confirmation. Accordingly my visa was delayed. And when i tried to cancel the reservation, it appeared three days instead of one. No New year in Tanzania for me this year. Thank you golden tulip!
