We
booked
a
one
night
stay
via
booking.com
for
$17
including
tourist
VAT.
However
at
check
in
we
were
asked
to
pay
$22.
We
queried
this
and
were
told
that
there
was
an
additional
$3
in
city
tax
for
the
two
of
us.
The
arithmetic
was
questioned.
They
dropped
the
price
to
$21.
Then
reluctantly
to
$20.
We
eventually
found
some
text
deep
into
the
email
supporting
their
$3
city
tax
claim.
It
is
text
that
they
have
authored
themselves
in
the
booking
confirmation
template.
It
is
definitely
hidden
from
the
total
figure.
So
we
agreed
to
pay
all
with
a
$20
bill
which
they
eagerly
accepted.
We
requested
a
printed
invoice.
It
was
written
in
Tanzanian
Shillings
and
there
was
no
mention
of
city
tax
on
it
-
just
the
18%
tourist
VAT
that
had
been
included
in
our
$17
booking
confirmation
amount.
Even
today
we
remain
unable
to
find
any
reference
to
Dar
Es
Salaam
city
tax
on
Google.
We
invite
them
to
reply
with
a
link
to
the
relevant
government
webpage.
We
feel
we
were
cheated.
Later,
we
were
given
keys
to
room
208
which
it
turned
out
could
not
be
locked
-
it
was
lucky
that
we
noticed
and
were
surprised
that
they
hadn't
repaired
it.
After
our
experience
at
check
in,
we
found
this
rather
suspicious.
They
apologized
and
said
it
had
never
happened
before.
We
were
moved
into
the
room
opposite.
We
are
left
wondering...
