We booked a one night stay via booking.com for $17 including tourist VAT. However at check in we were asked to pay $22. We queried this and were told that there was an additional $3 in city tax for the two of us. The arithmetic was questioned. They dropped the price to $21. Then reluctantly to $20. We eventually found some text deep into the email supporting their $3 city tax claim. It is text that they have authored themselves in the booking confirmation template. It is definitely hidden from the total figure. So we agreed to pay all with a $20 bill which they eagerly accepted. We requested a printed invoice. It was written in Tanzanian Shillings and there was no mention of city tax on it - just the 18% tourist VAT that had been included in our $17 booking confirmation amount. Even today we remain unable to find any reference to Dar Es Salaam city tax on Google. We invite them to reply with a link to the relevant government webpage. We feel we were cheated. Later, we were given keys to room 208 which it turned out could not be locked - it was lucky that we noticed and were surprised that they hadn't repaired it. After our experience at check in, we found this rather suspicious. They apologized and said it had never happened before. We were moved into the room opposite. We are left wondering...

Budget hotel in central town. Great location but a very run down place. The rooms felt dirty, a lot of the fixtures and furniture items were broken, the rooms are poorly designed, the bathroom very basic too. Still felt overpriced even though the price is low. The breakfast was very poor. Does the job, but do not expect anything great.

+ Good value! Cheap, clean, equipped room with mosquito net, hot water, helpful staff, good wifi, light breakfast included, good location in the city center near ferry to Zanzibar, fast and cheap laundry service, daily cleaning room service, universal plugs, good restaurant nearby For budget travelers, I recommend ! - old furniture, wifi only in common areas, no lift

Friendly staff. But rooms r old fashioned. I dont know if their mattress and pillows are new nd clean.. i could stand there for 2 mins because of the darkness of the room and the colour and the vibes.

Terrible .! The pics don’t match the bed size and the bath room is horrible .! For the price it’s not worth it , it’s definitely not a 3star hotel . It’s just a lodge . The Wi-Fi only works at reception. Breakfast is free they said , they offer coffee or tea . That’s it

We stayed over one night because we arrived late and wanted to be near the ferry for the next morning’s first departure. It is very basic but the staff are incredibly helpful. They organised a taxi for us at 5am and helped us to find places to have dinner and beers. Its not fancy but it is the best price with great service near the ferry.

It's a very rundown and old hotel but I come back every time I stay in Dar. It's very cheap and the location is unbeatable for that price, very central and close to the ferry to Zanzibar. The staff is nice, breakfast is basic but good with fruits, juice and eggs (for an extra 2000), and there's lots of nice restaurants in the area. If you're on a small budget and don't have high expectations it's a good place.

Basic but clean rooms. Very central secure location. Some very good restaurants nearby. Extremely helpful staff who arranged inexpensive airport transfers and more for me. The laundry service is excellent. Clothes come back same day so neatly I think they may even have been ironed too. Tip the laundry man well..he is not charging enough.

Best budget hotel in Dar E Salaam. For those who aren't looking to spend a Fortune on Accommodation and still have some sound sleep and a good breakfast. Location is good. WiFi available at the reception only, and nice restaurants around the Hotel. PS: go for the rooms with AC!! It can get really stuffy and Hot in the rooms. Probably because the Hotel is surrounded by Buildings. If you are looking for 3-4 star accommodation, then this is not your Hotel of choice! But if you are into having fun outside and just need a cozy place to stay for the night then yes definitely opt for Safari Inn!

Passable. The hotel is just old apartment with small smelly rooms. The AC is just for the sake to be on wall (non working). Breakfast is just bread butter and banana.

For the price point, this is a very basic accommodation option in the centre of Dar es Salaam. It is easy walking distance to the ferry terminal and the beach as well as all of the city centre attractions. Rooms are small and simple but fine for a night - it is very quiet at night. The thing that stood out for us however was the service - very welcoming, helpful and flexible, including letting us leave our baggage for a week whilst taking a trip to Zanzibar and even shower and freshen up on our return before heading to the airport. Plenty of tips for the neighbourhood and generally very friendly. Bearing in mind the pricing compared to other nearby options I was very satisfied with Safari Inn and would recommend to any budget travellers.

Excellent location at 10 mins walk from Zanzibar ferry, room with air conditioning and fan, very reasonably priced. We had forgotten a bag full of valuables in our taxi, who then unknowingly drove off. The managers were kind enough to help us call the airport taxi company (we had only the taxi driver's name to go on) and eventually helped us locate the bag! Thank you so much!

Cheap and we had everything we needed. My only critique is that they have WiFi available in the rooms as well (rather than just in the lobby).

😠 If you are looking for a place to sleep and relax for the night in your hotel room, I would never recommend anyone to stay here. On a Thursday they play music past 12am. It is too loud!
