Interesting few minutes walking through the spice market with lots to see & pretty much any spice possible at very reasonable prices. Not for visitors fearing COVID so be prepared when you visit

As a tourist this place was very interesting to visit. You can buy anything you may require here. Fresh fish, meat and vegetables and all the spices you may require to prepare the aforementioned products. I personally loved the spices section. Smelling and buying fresh spices is always fun.

I was wandering the alleys, when I bumped into this market, even though I knew that I had to visit it, I had no idea I was going on that direction, as I walk closer and closer, a veeeery distinctive smell was coming out of the fish section, lot of loud voices too. I walk straight in, spectacular experience!! I could witness the auctions, Hammer heads, other sharks, Big Marleys, giant Manta rays and heaps of other species of fish, the men negotiating the prices, chaos, very dirty, just like you see in documentaries, I went for lunch after and returned to it once again. IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! loved it so much!! they seem to be doing the same process for centuries. That market is extraordinary to wander around. I recommend to do it alone and then maybe do it with a guide for better context. I met a local guide nearby by accident, he gave me the tour then, he took me to the old slave market museum, then back to the market, where we went behind the scenes, sooo many hidden alley ways, I could see, where they butcher the chickens, where all market workers eat in what it seems to be communal kitchens, etc

Enormous bustling market selling fruits and other foods of all different sorts, clothes and souvenir's, and most notably lots of amazing spices! Beware of foreigner prices and being approached by "guides" who will insist you pay them money later.

Good market in the city of Stone Town. Fruits, vegetables, meat and even fish auctions. Streets and streets full of merchandise where the species take on an important nuance since the island is one of the largest exporters of these delicacies (a good opportunity to take a souvenir package). If you have no intention of buying, you can go through it in 15/20 min. If you are good at haggling, this is a good place to shop.

We heard about Zanzibar local (food and fish) market, now it was the time to see how it is, me and my friend, Colbet from South Africa decided to hv a look. We passed through narrow streets from stone town, and finally we reached to this place. The Darajani market. The Darajani Market is famous or known as Darajani Fish market or Darajani Food Market or even Darajani Local Market. These are the names given by different people from different places according to their perspective and the way they categorize it as. The Market is Open from around 07:30 Am to 10:30 pm and sometimes more depends on the customers. The Darajani Market tour is one of things to do and you should never miss once you are in this Island, It became one of the most popular and most visited by tourist from around the world and local people, so its a tourist attraction. Since it have More of the Variety of the Local food, and More Experience in Local trading and marketing experience, Small trade activities. This is a cash only place, No Cards Services here. This is One of the famous local food market in Zanzibar. it's a place where you can find and have almost everything you need in the food section, (Fresh and at a very low / reasonable price.) The market is very famous due to its unique style, arrangement (Specified Portions) and Running style. The market has Beef Butches section, Fresh fish Section, Spice section , Fresh Fruits and mixed / different variety Section. so if you fail to find what you are looking for, just go to mixed / different variety Section, there you will get what you want. so the Sellers have arranged them self in that way to make more life easy to their customers and quest visiting the market. Though the market is very populated especial during the afternoon since different people from part of Zanzibar going there for shopping but still you will find path ways to move around the market. So if you need some fresh fruits, Vegetables, Fish and meat, Spices and further more even to experience Zanzibarian local life style this is the right place to visit. I like the way people are so humble, everyone has his or her own internal motivation, Not only youth but even, Women and Older people they all seat together as a community with the aim of one goal to sell as the best they can, once you are at the market it's a normal thing to see everyone is welcome you at his or her business. People from this area have high and good Customer care with pleasant language that will convince you to stop and buy from him or her and sometimes even just to have a look, this is what encourages them more. The wonderful this you can come across a local guy Speaking your language, don't be surprised, or you hear someone speaks more than 3 Foreign language. The market has the best products and cheap price ever, For anyone you can go with your expensive camera to take pictures but with a request for a permission a person before taking the picture, Some they like to be in the picture some don't like to be in the pictures, so the better way is to ask the individual first. Do you wanna have more fun, Say or talk to any local person a Swahili word there you go, you will love the moment of being there. People are very friendly and its a Safe Market. Thank you everyone these are some of my experiences of being there, i have much to say the beauty of this place but i leave for you to say more after passing to this place.

The Spice Community market is a busy and hectic place where tourists are greeted as sellers seek to snag them and get them to buy from their stall rather than anyone else's. All the stalls, to a greater or slightly lesser extent, pretty much sell the same range. Nonetheless there is a huge selection of spices on sale at v good prices, as well as spice mixes, such as for pillau or masala tea, etc. Also available are some clove-filled air-fresheners that smell great. We bought our things from 'MoodySpice" who was very helpful, smiley and good to haggle price with

This is located in Zanzibar, the place is literally so busy and the people in market are so good in welcoming. I love it and people always greet each other on the way. The market has every need for home cooking materials, they are not even costful cause we bought some of the materials too.

Great place to buy spices and you could have good deals. But you should for sure check several one and ask the prices. You should definitely negotiate before paying the full “tourist price”. The aspect I didn’t like : *a lot of vendors will try to take you to their shop, some of them would even say they are partnering with some charity association for orphans… *some people will come and speak to you to propose you some city tour. Even if you say no, some of them would follow you for a while playing the guide. Definitely tell them you are fine and don’t need a guide. Last but not least, if you’re vegan I won’t recommend you to check inside where there is the butchery and fish stall… the meat/ fish smell is really strong.

The tour is good .but take care of the guys who sells their things! Perfume ,soap, and spices..they are so greed for the money. Take your time to buy at Darajani instead of.

Great place to experience the local spice market. The prices quoted for foreign tourists are typically 4 to 5 times the local prices. So know your prices! All sell the same commercially available products. All will tell you their spices will cure all diseases! You name it and they will have a cure. A good spice farm tour will teach you much more about the spice and fruit plants, how it is harvested etc.

Really crowded, a lot of people trying to sell things, but nice place to see the local offers and lot of different products. Always bargain, they try to triple the real price.

Get your products fresh at this market especially in the evening from 4pm when it gets full with traders. The price is average and affordable.

  • 5/5 Carlos T. 3 years ago on Google
This place is wild. Tons of spices, tons of fruit, prices are very consistent throughout (but you should shop around a bit). It is hot and sticky inside, but never claustrophobic. People will hawk goods as you go through, but that is literally their job so you should expect it. Prices are better inside than outside, so do go through the stalls. There are ATMs on the east/street side of the building, so just go out near where the cars park if you need cash (at last check these were not on Google Maps). Buy a bag for 500 TSH and stock up. Covid situation is very bad - but it is all over the island anyway, so no worse here than any place else except a resort.

Wow this market is a must see when in Zanzibar. It is enlightened on how the locals shop & make a living. I would not recommend for someone with a faint tummy. The meat and fish area is not like a grocery store.

(Translated by Google) Another smear. When we came to this market, there was such a terrible smell of rotting meat, as if you found a missing neighbor in the cellar for half a year. I have no problem with the stench, but this was strength. Then fortunately the fish market broke. . Hygiene at such a level that the Czech control would get a massive heart attack. Right next to the spice market and it was a balm for my soul. An inexhaustible amount of all possible and impossible species for a complete mouthful. Pak to naštěstí přetloukl rybí trh.

👍👍 Pay $8 entrance, and the first thing you do is a room with all the slave history then you go to the underground chambers where they put the slaves, then you go to the Anglican Catedral and next to the catedral you can find the sculptures of some slaves.
