This zoo is an abomination. it has been cited over 50 times for violations of the minimum standards of the USDA's Animal Welfare Act. I saw this elephant, Beulah, in 2018. Just seeing how she lives and what she has endured is heartbreaking. She was present at a fair and forced to give rides to 8-10 children at once. While the handler loved to tell people that she is like "his sister" and how much he loves her, the bullhook (with which she has been "trained" i.e. subjected to extreme pain in order to make her submissive) was never more than a few feet from her line of vision. Beulah and the two other elephants they own, Karen and Minnie, were all removed from their families in the wild. They have spent decades suffering just for our entertainment. They are all in their 40's and 50's and despite the fact that a sanctuary in CA has offered to take them all free of charge, the Commerford Zoo continues to profit from their exploitation, with no respect for the fact that they are highly intelligent, social, and emotionally complex animals. Please DO NOT support this business.

Animals are suffering and overworked for this business. Take a look at this elephant at the Big E 2018. She's in terrible pain, limping and shaking her feet, and being forced to walk with a bullhook. This is not necessary

Saw these animals at The Big E. My heart broke. They were overfed with massive protruding bellies and no energy to even stand. There is no regulation on how much or often they are fed. The ponies for the pony rides were exhausted and the worker thought it would be OK to pick my son up to put him on one of the ponies without warning or permission, scaring him and brushing it off as if it was ok. I was so disheartened after truly seeing how poorly these animals were treated. These animals deserve so much better!!

These guys should get negative stars!!! They abuse their animals and make them live in deplorable conditions. Don't support their bad practices. Contact the USDA and make complaints on the grounds of basic decency toward animals. Animals like elephants deserve better treatment than that given by the creepy commerford sons.

Animals deserve dignity and respect. Please take care of these animals and this elephant or let them go live and be free and happy somewhere else ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ. Please. Otherwise people, donโ€™t do elephant rides and take their income away!!

I never been there but from the pictures Iโ€™ve seen I would never support this place. My heart breaks for these poor elephants. ๐Ÿ˜ข this place needs to be closed down and these elephant taken to the place in California that offer to take them. Hopefully there they will be treated with dignity.

Please send Minnie to a sanctuary. She deserves better than being isolated since Beulah and Karen died. Give her a few years reprieve from the life you forced on her. Please.

Two elephants have already died in their care. Minnie the elephant is suffering now and the owners won't release her to an animal sanctuary. Please do not support this zoo. They do not care about the animals only about lining their pockets with money.

Personally don't think anyone should be allowed to exploit animals for human entertainment. Rehab, rehabilitate, educate is one thing.. This is not that.

The Commerfords were super friendly and really treated my family as if we where life long friends. The animals they care for are amazing and beautiful and after talking and watching the interactions between animals and caretakers I could see with out a doubt these animals are loved and well cared for.

Free Minnie. She is a gentle giant and what is being done to her is horrifying. She is in solitary confinement.

Unethical company that profits off of the exploitation of animals. Please respect the dignity of all the beautiful creatures that have suffered at the hands of the Commerfords by not supporting their business.

This place is an absolute joke We came all the way from Canada and weโ€™re told they arenโ€™t open to the public even though they claim they are open on line Someone needs to release all the animals in the is place. They clearly arenโ€™t capable of running this place properly.

Their animals have the greatest personality, Beulah(don't know how to spell it) was an old girl and i miss her memory, but she was the best. Always friendly with the kids because that's how she was taught, COVID wasn't kind to anyone and I hope people relies it wasn't good for any business. Also Carl is the best boy, he's the funny one in his lamma group

Things are not always as they seem. Remember bad news sells. Be objective. I have never seen any animal uncared for here. They are loved deeply. Stop sensationalizing stories because at the end of the day you personally have not been to this facility. You personally have not seen the animals. Donโ€™t speak on something you have no knowledge of.

This horrible place should be closed immediately and the operators should be sent to prison for animal abuse.

They don't even deserve one star. PLEASE SHUT THEM DOWN! These people mistreat their animals. Their elephants died at a fair due to their lack of respect. They are at all of my local fairs and the people are rude and the animals look unwell and sad. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE! WE NEED TO FREE THE ANIMALS AND SHUT THEM DOWN! please avoid them and the people who support them.

๐Ÿ˜  Charming setting, disappointing experience. My daughter and I traveled 3 hours not just to see the exotic animals shown on their website (wallaby, fennec fox, marmoset monkey...) but we were also very excited to hold them, as the pictures implied we could. Very disappointed to be told their website...
