Nice theater 🎭 The Staatstheater Darmstadt is a four-section house with opera, dance, drama and concerts. Karsten Wiegand has been director since the 2014/15 season. The State of Hesse is responsible for the Staatstheater Darmstadt. In accordance with the theater contract dated November 24, 1971 in its currently valid version, the city of Darmstadt is involved with an operating subsidy of 48%. In the large house, which is mainly used by the opera, there are 956 seats and 8 places in the handicapped box. The Small House, in which mainly drama and dance performances are given, has 482 seats and also 8 places in the handicapped box. Since the refurbishment there has also been the Kammerspiele with 120 seats. The bar in front of the Kammerspiele has room for around 60 people, who can also have a drink here during a smaller performance. The Staatstheater Darmstadt has more than 500 employees. Every year about 40 pieces are newly staged in different categories. In the 2012/13 season, around 224,000 visitors came, which corresponded to an occupancy rate of 75 percent. In 2009/10 there were 260,000 spectators.[1] In the 2007/08 season, the Staatstheater Darmstadt received 26.4 million euros in public funds and was able to take in 3.9 million euros.

It was a total blast being here. My very first time to experience the theater scene in all of Germany and everything was great for me. I was in a comfortable seat. The theater stage was very impressive. The musical play we saw was very entertaining and fun. The safety protocols was executed well. It was magical place to be and a good way to escape from the challenge of life's reality.

Great theater and equally amaizing public space. Safe parking structure below the park. The park is a natural place of gathering and relaxing. People come here to enjoy good weather. Many events and cultural events are hosted here to make this place even better.

If you are enrolled in universities in Darmstadt, you are entitled to enter almost all events here. There are monthly symphony concerts, and choreography festivals, opera pieces from time to time. Well maintained infrastructure and friendly staff services, I enjoy to watch shows very much. Thank you.

[Attended a performance during the Rhein Main Dance Festival] Nice, modern theatre building with convenient parking. The auditorium has great rake with good sight lines from everywhere. Unfortunately everything was cash only from parking to the bar to the coat lockers. No café or restaurant to eat anything before the show.

Very modern building with special theater atmosphere. Hera are three areas: one big hall ,one medium and a small one. Yesterday we were in a big hall(I think it can allocate around 1000 people. Maybe a little bit less). Acoustic and possibility to see that is going on the scene is really good from any place of this hall. Also there is a big variety of snacks, drinks and beverages at the Theater Cafe for reasonable price. Especial thanks to the actors - they were incredible. Indeed I highly recommend this place to visit.

I attended my first production at the Staatstheater Darmstadt on June 23, 2023. It was the final performance of "Fabian oder Der Gang for die Hunde", masterfully directed by Christoph Mehler. I used my Deutschland Ticket on the RB67/68 to easily travel to Darmstadt Hbf from Frankfurt Main Hbf. The street tram S3 drove me to the Louisenplatz and from their I readily walked up the pedestrian-zoned hill to the wonderful open area before the beautifully restored theatre building. What a fabulous design of public space! The functional and welcoming outside and inside architecture was a delight to behold. Fabian, the theatre piece, truly felt like a review of the bygone époque of the 1930s in Berlin, Germany where frivolous hedonism preceded the horrors which followed. Erich Kästner's Zeitroman "Fabian", as depicted in this excellent piece of theatre is equally a modern portrayal and reminder to each of us about where we might emotionally find ourselves in the politically corrupt and societally polarised world of today. The protagonists were brilliantly played by Béla Milan Uhrlau and Sebastian Schulze. The incredible, multitalented Louisa von Spies acted and sang as the mood-setting master of ceremonies throughout. The clarity, resonance, and heartstrings-reverberating mezzo-soprano of her voice carried this play/musical like a reliable westerly wind within the theatrical hoisted sails- always moving each well-acted scene in a harmonious flow of action. I highly recommend to my fellow Frankfurters to discover this pearl of cultural delight soon. Your excursion to the Staatstheater Darmstadt will surely also offer you a memorably positive experience.
