Really great place. The oldest of all the wbtdcl lodges and is a great lodge to spend your weekend amidst the dense Sunderbans. Great hospitality by the staffs of the tourist lodge. We booked 3 non-ac rooms and 1 ac room. Charges are standard. Only gst gets applied during check-out. The food is really awesome and one must try the fishes there especially crab, vetki and prawn. The tourist lodge also provides a indoor gaming room and one can play there with no extra costs as you are not allowed to go outside the lodge after sunset. One can hire boat from there to visit sudhanyakhali, Dobanki watch tower. We also covered the core of Sunderban that is we visited the Netidhopani watch tower. If you go to Sunderban do not expect wild animals, but you must enjoy the beauty of this landscape. At last great place to visit and a must visit place.

This is for wildlife lovers!! The place is very quiet and you can easily hear various sounds of the wildlife from early morning. Rooms : The rooms were great. They recently renovated the rooms so they were very clean. Location: It is located far from human habitation. This property also has its own watch tower. During sunrise deers can easily be spotted from the top of it. They also organize whole day tours on demand. Note: All the activities in forest are restricted on Tuesday. You can't even roam in the forests on Tuesdays. Plan accordingly.

This is one and only property which is present inside the core jungle area of Sundarban. Other all properties are in Pakhiralay which is in the opposite bank. Being a Government property location, space is very good so is the food. price is on the higher side. Manager is very humble nd knowledgable. He also will help you regarding your sight seeing trip to dobanki and other place. The only problem is they tends to add extra 5% in the name of service charge without your consent which is wrong as per my opinion. Rest everything is okay. Also beware there are several monkeys in the property.

A unique experience for the lodge is inside the forest. However the food is not that great and veg options are limited. Ac rooms and service is just fine. There is arrangement for complementary boat oick up and drop from Godkhali ferry ghat. If you are driving down, youmay park your car at godkhali ferry ghat as well for fee parking is available. Choose this place if you want to enjoy the night at the forest. Suggest keeping some indoor activities planned for the evening like books or movies as a stroll in the forest post 5 pm is not allowed

It's the only Govt tourism lodge cum guest house in Indian Sundarban. Located at Sajnekhali Island. One can reach by taking a boat ride from Gadkhali or Gosaba. For that one has to reach Canning ( by train/ road) and then gadkhali by road. It's comparatively well managed and rooms are comfortable. The staff are very cordial here.

The place was decent.. service quality is only thing i would say lacked. Food is decent quality but not completely bengali type. They are going to shut down for next few months, so menu was limited, which suffered the experience. Both the watchtowers were main attraction, the long trees and adventurous experience was best part of the trip. If you book online, there is extra gst that you have to pay at the end, felt this could be done in online only, not sure why it was separate. Service really could have been better, they expect good tips but for that the quality of service is not upto mark. But anyway, other than that good experience. Food costs approx average 700 per person for lunch dinner and snacks.

The property was earlier known as Sajnekhali Tourism Resort. Day 1 - We had to reach the Gadkhali Ferry Ghat by 11 AM. The only challenge is they did not start for the resort unless all the tourists had arrived. So we the punctual tourists had to suffer. It took almost 2 hours to reach the property from there. On reaching the resort the staff was there to carry our luggage to the reception. The resort is quite an experience with nearby watch towers and Mangrove Interpretation Centre. Ours was an AC suite well furnished and tastefully designed. It had a balcony facing the pond, a living room space with TV. A bathroom with Geyser and necessary amenities. Of course no electric kettle or tea/ coffee sachets were provided. The WBTDCL kit had no dental kit inside. Food was excellent but the oil quality can be better. They provide room service. We relished Goldar Chingri Malai Curry at an affordable price of ₹300 Day 2 - They offered a trip to the interior of the jungle on a boat. The cost varies depending upon the number of takers. It is usually a 6-8 hours trip inclusive of lunch. The nearby jungle has spotted deer, wild boar, water monitor lizard, monkeys and the beautiful Lesser Adjutant Stork. Pros- The prop and stilt lodge rooms give you a jungle feel. The staff is helpful. Cons- Not all rooms have a geyser, cleanliness can be better. The food order is always taken in advance but often it's not ready on time. Day3 - We had breakfast by 8.30 and around 9.30 the boat was ready to take us back to Gadkhali Ferry Ghat. In the morning it was a faster ride of around 1 and a half hours. A 2 Night 3 day stay will be apt. Best time to visit September to March.

A good option for a weekend gateway fr Kolkata if you like staying in forest area. Room : Room are good, wooden forest type cottage with decent washroom. Ac, non ac both options are there. Cleanliness is good as well. Food : options are limited but good home-cooked style food, chicken/mutton/fish everything is available but depending on the which time of the year you are visiting. Property: its well maintained, you will find Bengal monitor lizards are Romain around here and there, a lots of monkeys, varieties of birds inside the fencing area. If you lucky you might observe deers, boars also outside the fencing area. The watch tower present in the property is a treat to visit for awesome view of the Jungle and river. Also from the jetty area you can watch a lovely sunset on the river. Points to note : ( depending of your preference these can be either pros or cons!) 1. Morning and evening only one boat goes to the property and as its situated at the forest side, without the boat there is no way out from the resort. 2. It run on the generator power as electrical wire can be fatal for monkeys. So power cuts are frequently and Daily generator maintenance is there. 3. While you are in the jetty area, be careful and do not try to go outside of the fencing or close to river bank as crocodiles are very common here. 4. After dark its the gates of the cottage stay closed from the staircase side. Its preferable not to open it to come down to the ground and roam around as the monitors present inside the property can be of larg size and if not fatal but could cause unwanted incidents. Overall a very good option, if you like feel the true beauty of a jungle life peacefully. Note : ITS REAR TO STOP TIGERS, so please hold your expectations.

Service was excellent 👍 everyone should go once in their life. You will get the actual scenic beauty of sundarban from matla tourism. It is a property which is situated exact the middle of the forest. For a relaxing weekend its a best place to visit..

Loved the scenic beauty of Sunderban jungle from here. Well maintained, good service, all the staffs were good. You will get a free boat service from Godkhali to the Property and back. Food quality was also good. It was a thrilling experience in the winter nights at middle of the jungle. One can spot multiple species of animals and birds. Unfortunately, can't spot any tiger from here. Hope to see next time.

Sajnekhali Tourist Lodge is maintained by West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation, Govt of West Bengal. It is a nice place to visit for 02 days and 02 nights. I have visited this place alongwith my family on 26 Oct 2020. The hotel staff is very good. one has to place order for breakfast, lunch and dinner well in advance. There is no electricity but 24 hrs power supply by generator. Standards room has no Television installed. One has to higher motor boat for sight seeing. minimum rent for motor boat is Rs.6000 plus GST for 07 hours. I recommend the nature lover to visit this place.

The lodge with the surrounding area and museum, as well as the crocodile enclosure is a beautiful place, inside the mangrove forest. Only way to reach it is by boats. Being a government property it is well maintained and guarded also. There is occasional wildlife sighting even inside the lodge if you are lucky.

Nice property of WB Tourism. Though it is without some regular required amenities, yet the stay is enjoyable, surrounded by forest, water bodies and animals. Watch tower also there. Staff behavior polite and the food is specially very good.

  • 4/5 Subhajit G. 1 year ago on Google
Good experience overall but we booked for more number of days by mistake. Usually a two day booking is sufficient and cancelling at the last moment gives you zero refund. Online booking systems were perfect. Good job WB government. The property is amazing, it's totally isolated and runs on generator. Well protected. It is well built but lacks modern comforts. They also provide a complementary ferry service from Gadkhali which is a boon. Food is good, staff members are professional and courteous. But don't push your luck as this is a government run facility unless you work in the government! I don't. They do not give extra beds in case you are travelling with kids and all, they just provide you with an extra mattress on the floor which is a bit of an issue as they charge for an extra person. The facility has two watch towers, you might get a glimpse if you are lucky. We didn't! The entire facility is well protected with multiple levels of barriers.

Go here only if you love the forest and can maintain jungle etiquette (not talking loudly with bright screened phones at night, talking loudly in big groups, laughing, jesting etc.) This is right in the middle of the forest and should be treated accordingly. It's the traveler's responsibility to not be a nuisance and respect the jungle for what it is.

The rooms are the worst. They are old and dilapidated.. Inside you will always find sand or dust wood Due to the rotten woods.. The manger mentioned that by November it will get renovated .. expect it to be at par with the WBTDC resorts at other places like Murti, Bakkhali etc.. The location is awesome 👌. Into the jungle.. No other resorts can match that..not even the ITC Sonar bangla.. the forest dept and tourism should collaborate and the forest dept watch tower should open up at 6 am in the morning ..that is the best time to spot wild animals..

Didn’t get to see tiger. Room is okay. But bathroom need to be better. Nothing to do in the evening. Just stuck in room. Many monkeys around

Very good room. Only problem is no geyser and mostly water is hard-ward due to salted water of sunderban though you will get normal filtered drinking water. Staff behaviour is good. Food quality is good and location is very good.

We spent weekends at WBTDCL Matla, Sajnekhali , booked one AC suite online, and reached there from Gadkhali by WBTDCL boat(free), had a very nice journey on boat amidst the dense mangrove forest. The staff were very cooperative and served tasty food. There were two watch towers overlooking to the National forest. Crocodile and tortoise are in the ponds inside the resort, and also lots of cute monkeys all around. The komodo dragons were roaming inside park, beehives hanging from the watch tower. We loved this sylvan place spending a day and night and enjoyed the serene beauty of nature amidst the lush green mangroves , sundari trees with their breathing roots, and the quiet stream of tides through the naked roots of mangroves.

Set amidst the picturesque mangroves of Sunderban, Sajnekhali tourist lodge is the oldest tourism property of West Bengal tourism in the Sunderban areas. Located in the Sajnekhali island, it has a wonderful and peaceful setting and peace abound with Sundari trees with natural flora and fauna. The rooms are well maintained and spacious. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The manager offers excellent information about the animals that visit this property. But the fence around the property prevents them from coming in except the monkeys which are found in abundance. The tourist property is sanitising very well and maintaining excellent hygiene standard. The rooms are well lit and is cheap compared to other properties in the nearby areas. It also offers a variety of Indian and a limited number of Chinese cuisines to choose from. The fish, prawns and crabs are of the highest quality and is amazingly tasty. But it's necessary to carry your own quota of ration because there is no shop in the vicinity. The nearest market is almost 20 minutes of ferry ride away and that ferry is also not available regularly. The property offers free pick up and drop facility from Gondkhali ferry ghat.

It has monkey menace, so keep your important essentials carefully. Secondly, mismanagement frequently surfaces up when it has peak tourist season going on. Staff is cordial and cooperative. Water for bathing is salty in nature and no geyser facilities; you will get warm water on payment in a bucket, and do not forget to keep your washroom bucket outside the room in the night to get the same :)

  • 4/5 Sushmita B. 3 years ago on Google
It is the oldest property of West Bengal tourism, established in 1984. Very well maintained and excellent hospitality. Such helpful and caring staffs of this place is a rare find in hotels of this state. The major attraction is the watch tower from which an expanded mangrove forest is visible and one can spot deers, and birds from there too. Food is an added plus point of this place.
