I love this place! I first went when they organized an architectural sketching workshop in the old offices (very fun!), and since then have been on their mailing list, which I think is the best way to hear about their activities. They often offer walking tours of the Diamond Necklace and the other parks in the area that Olmsted designed. The park rangers are always well informed and make great guides.

Very interesting museum / historic site operated by the National Park Service. Good way to spend a couple hours learning about an important landscape architect who contributed to our national park ethos.

It was great to see the home and office of the first Landscape Architect, signature designer of so many iconic American parks and communities. It was interesting to see what has changed and what has remained the same in the practice of Architecture and Engineering in the past century.

Few people know that Frederick Law Olmsted and his group over time designed 100s of our country's most important public parks, invented the concept of the US National Parks, created the profession of landscape architecture...and understood how green and open space positively affect behavior. His work and his tools are again on display in this house-studio, a true gem of a National Historic Site. It is a deeply moving experience to have been there.

Short tours led by the rangers are very informative and free. Beautiful grounds, too.

This NPS historical site is a wonderful little treasure. Our family spent about 1.5 hours there. We learned quite a bit about Olmsted and the urban parks in the US. The rangers were friendly and knowledgeable. And the site gave us some insights into Olmsted's philosophy. Also, the staff cartoons are cool.
