Cosy whisky bar. As a non whisky drinker finding a sweet cocktail to my liking was a bit tricky. However the staff were super friendly and accommodating and whipped up a cocktail off the menu for me which was delicious. Can be a little loud. Renovated and much more inviting than it used to be with the unassuming black door.

Wild Rover is one of the coolest bars in Sydney... situated in the old Gestetner store, you can easily miss it because it is kind of a hidden gem! I love the atmosphere, the large choice of whiskies and the great choice of wine. The staff are super chilled and friendly. Weekends can be busy but earlier in the week really nice to sit here and enjoy catching up with friends! Definitely try the cheese platter... very very good!!!!

This is one of my favourite venues and I absolutely love the new renovation. It’s the perfect date night spot. Good to catch up with friends too. Cool space with friendly staff. I highly recommend trying the raw scallops, lamb sausage rolls and the pickled kipfler potato salad. The Culture Clash cocktail was my fave. Wish you would bring back the Apple Crumble cocktail 😃

I love this place. There is only a month left on the current cocktail menu so make sure you make the most of it. Irish penicillin is amazing great way to start the night or finish it but there is nothing cheap about this place. Cocktails are around 20 each but are worth it. Also make sure you get the sausage rolls. Handmade and delicious.

Very nice and fancy cocktail bar. You have to know the place to get into it. The decoration is super nice and the waiters as well. The music is a bit too loud and so it is hard to hear each other without yelling.

Didn’t realise they were dishing up such great food at the Rover, which I know to be an awesome bar! Had the pleasure of sampling an all seafood menu with the option to add on meat dishes too for a friend’s birthday 🥳 Each dish was incredible but I loved the scallops, the prawn head dip was amazing! The fish was incredible and I also tried the chicken which was cooked beautifully 😋 The cocktails are really amazing too, recommend the Estuary martini with olive 🫒and the Slow Rush (red one)!

The rover is definitely one of my new favourite surry hills restaurant. The Clams, with barley, garlic, kombu butter was my favourite dish.

Atmosphere is super cozy. The drinks were unique and had an awesome twist on some classics. The bar staff is very knowledgeable as well. Beyond cocktails, The Rover will be my local whiskey/whisky spot in the neighborhood when I have the itch!

Very wonderful experience. Bartenders were relaxed and knowledgeable. Delicious cocktails and the atmosphere was lovely and cosy. I enjoyed sitting at the bar. Just had drinks this time but probably be back to have some more drinks and snacks.

A cute, hidden gem that has a great drinks menu and excellent food. We especially loved the scallop, fried oysters & sardines! Of course, the oyster selection is on point and worth giving them all a try. A perfect place for a midday stop or, after work drinks or a quick meet up before dinner out. A word of caution though...the wine pairing isn't worth it; they are strange wines paired together so don't waste your time or money on that, trust your own palette instead.

April 2023: Been coming to the excellent cocktail bar for years. Now they have an upstairs seafood restaurant. It is excellent. Service and give also great. Grilled flathead was probably the best dish, which I forgot to photograph! But everything was excellent. Steak tartare with sea urchin is so unique and a winner. Eel pate also unique and excellent

Loved the vibes of the bar & restaurant. Restaurant food was great! Our attendant (Vinny) was the most attentive and extraordinary host. I can speak for the service staff at the bar on the ground floor. They were not particular helpful or friendly. Go for the vibes and ignore the rest for a good time.

One of those very cool hidden bars in Sydney. A whiskey and beer bar mainly but has great wine on the menu too. Their annual oyster fest is really good where you can get a dozen of oysters for $15. There's a lot of different seating areas and a nice upstairs area. The staff are super friendly and everyone is having a good time in this bar.

First time at the bar and a fabulous night. Thanks to the amazing staff and the Glenlivet special tasting event put on by The Whiskey Coop. Very memorable and look forward to my next visit.

we had the bEST night here. super friendly staff (like SUPER FUN) and really reasonably high quality drinks. didn’t catch the name of our waiters, but shout out to them for being so lovely.

The Wild Rover is the sort of "second" place you go to after getting extremely sloshed at the first place and this time was no exception, hence random photos. I can't say I ever remember what upstairs looked like because a) I always forget there is an up stairs or b) too hammered to go up stairs. So we'll talk about the downstairs. It's dark, cosy and full of beer and warm stuff. Perfect when it's cold and a bit out of place when it's hot. Overall it's a great place that's on my rotation when I'm around the area. Please put on vegan sausage rolls.

Dimly lit cocktail/whiskey bar. Quaint and great for a classy first date or catch up with friends. The waiters have such positive energy and offer great customer service. I enjoyed my cocktail!

What a find! Stumbled across it after some dinner in the area. The vibe is cool, relaxed and intimate. Great table service and drinks menu. The staff are friendly and quite knowledgeable. Best Dirty Martini I've had in a while. There is something for all seeking a place to have good conversation accompanied with great drinks.

It was raining, so I hop into this little place for a drink and some snacks. The place is not big and setting is quite intimate. I choose to sit at the bar hence the pic of the bar! Bar tender introduces me to their menu, only one page of food and mostly seafood on the page and the rest are wine and different spirits! I opted for half dozen of the recommended oysters and washed them down with a glass of bubbly...the raining has not stop so I ordered the scallops and more oysters, why not? More bubbly please, can't insulate these delicates with water! Now the place has picked up, maybe because of the rain or the popularity of this place. All in all, the staffs are attentive. Since I sat at the bar, I saw all the delicious cocktails being made. The seafood are fresh. Even though it was still raining, I know I better get out of there before I start ordering bottle of anything! You have to check out of the sinks in the bathroom if you go, it will bring you back to the day of gold rush!

Fairly large prohibition style bar inconspicuously tucked away near central station. Great decor and decent vibes though a bit noisy. Price point was fairly standard for a Sydney cbd bar with most cocktails $21-23. Whiskey apple was thoroughly disappointing. There was no flavour of the whiskey and the apple juice itself tasted very watered down. When I asked about it, apparently the Jameson whiskey used has this invisible flavour profile and I was given an extra block of ice for my concerns. $12 I gave the benefit of the doubt by getting the Rover reviver. The cold brew was certainly good but that was all you could taste. $22 The lamb sausage roll is what I actually came for and waited 20 mins for it. The batter was flaky and had absorbed some of the mince's flavour. I'm not sure why but the actual sausage was dry and a little bland. The beetroot ketchup was light and a bit sweet but didn't help. $15 for this was disappointing.

Rustic charm in a dimly lit ambient setting. The cocktails were amazing and they have a great whiskey collection on offering. The space is quaint and is sometimes a little loud but this adds to the New York type hustle bustle charm. The bar staff and waiters are super friendly which is not so common among bars in Sydney

A fabulous little bar. The old Singer factory (sewing machines). It specialises in whisky from around the world, you’ll be spoiled for choice. The staff are incredibly friendly and greet you with a friendly hey when you walk in (think Cheers). It’s small, but so worth a drop in.

Very cool venue. In the heart of Surry Hills and within walking distance from central making the location accessible. The bar downstair looks good. We had dinner at the restaurant and was very happy with the food. Service was good and the ambient was great. Full review on my 2 videos attached.

A trendy little cocktail bar in Surry hills that offers some classic and contemporary cocktails. The staff are attentive and service is prompt. I’ve enjoyed many a cocktail here and they’re always made well, with quality liquor. The ambience and atmosphere is lovely, always a great spot for a drink or two.

Excellent foods, specially fish pie! You must try it but everything else we ordered were all tasty and nicely presented! Love the chocolate moose too it’s not a typical chocolate moose we used to that’s for sure!

Wow - what an amazing meal! Tucked away above the cool bar that is The Rover, I rate this as the best seafood restaurant in Sydney. The superb local oysters are hand shucked. All the other dishes were equally fresh and crafted. 5 stars

  • 5/5 Kent Q. 9 months ago on Google
Went to the bar first for some drinks before going upstairs to the restaurant during the "Golden Hour" for the $2 shucked oysters and $10 mini martini. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Lovely place and atmosphere.

I’d doesn’t get more gold than golden hour here, $2 Sydney Rock Oysters from 5-6 Tuesday-Saturday and $10 mini martinis. If you are lucky enough to catch Kendall in the upstairs dining area, he makes the absolutely unreal dirty martini.

This place is truly hidden in plain sight. Definitely worth the visit, but can get a little crowded. Big selection of whiskey's to choose, an equal range of cocktails and drinks on tap. Good value for money on this one.

The best "cocktail bar" I have ever experienced. The drinks invoke "old school" flavours and the atmosphere is what I imagine prohibition era "speak easys" were at their best. Friendly, attentive even loving service all 6 times I have been. HIGHLY recommended!!!

Awesome whiskey bar with a buzzing and homely atmosphere created by the cheer of patrons for every new guest that arrives. The bartenders are friendly with good banter and make a cracker whiskey sour. Keep up the good work.
