A really lovely hotel in a great location ... Nice to stay somewhere with a bit of history. An old mill situated on the canal now turned into a large hotel with an adjoining building over a bridge providing leisure facilities including a pool. We were only here for one night but it was lovely. Parking is available close by which is always a bonus. Our room was small but adequate, it had everything you needed inc tea and coffee making facilities The bathroom was compact with shower, which was great, really hot water and quite powerful. There's a restaurant and a bar but we went out and about. You're just on the outskirts of the town but within easy walking distance and you have the added bonus of being on the canal, some visitors might never get to this bit. We walked through the park for easy access to the river, a short walk along the river and you come to the Roman walls and one of the main gateways into Chester. Breakfast was included and I thought it was excellent. Lovely restaurant with views onto the water... self service buffet style, a lovely start to the day

Friendly welcome by reception staff. The hotel is very clean. Our room was big. The wardrobe, drawers, etc. looked like new. The bed was comfortable with good pillows. Tea, coffee and biscuits tray in the room. Our room overlooked the flyover, which was very noisy in the day. We had to close the window at night, which helped keep dull the traffic noise. We were on the second floor. Bar prices were reasonable. Beer good. The outside seating area was an added bonus. We only used the restaurant for breakfast. Sam, who served the breakfast, is a lovely lady and so friendly. Sam, the barman, is very friendly too and does a great job. He took the time to talk to guests and could give us information about the local area. Good location and secure parking.

Great hotel / food is excellent / breakfast had lots to choose from. Sam in the restaurant is a really nice guy, very pleasant we will definitely be going back again. Only little thing was there are no hooks or towel rail in the bathroom to hang towels when you have a shower but still gets 5 stars off us

Really handy hotel right in the centre of Chester with its own car park (chargeable). The design of the hotel can be confusing - spread across a canal - but it does mean that you can get into town along the towpath. The rooms are nice, warm and clean, with enough room for their purpose. The bathroom is likewise The breakfast is good but, when we were there it was only serving a festive menu in the restaurant in the evening which was very limited I would stay there again but would book direct with the hotel which removes the requirement to pay for car parking

Nice hotel well located. Staff are exceptional at customer service especially at Breakfast and Dinner. You would not go far wrong to bench mark with this team, certainly a refreshing change. There is a good choice of beers with 3x real ales on offer the whole time we were there. I can recommend the Mill Premium bitter. Thanks for a great stay

Absolutely so impressed with the service I received. Spent some time in the lovely spa which was great. Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and pool but unfortunately I lost an earring that had sentimental value. Having left a description and my details on check out I received a call the day after informing me that my earring had been found and they would post it back to me. Very impressed. Thank you. Regarding the hotel, fabulous location, nice breakfast, small room but adequate .

Stayed here for a birthday treat with hubby. Could not fault it. Service was bang on, friendly and the dining room was run with expert precision, breakfast each morning was good with again very lovely, friendly staff. My only regret is, not having time to use the Spa. We had days out with lots to do, leaving me too exhausted to do anything other than relax and sleep whilst back at the Mill Hotel and Spa. I would definitely recommend this hotel and a visit to beautiful Chester city.

The room was spotless and the bed comfortable. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We used the swimming pool which was nice but had an unruly group, who were asked multiple times by staff and customers to behave appropriately, should have been asked to leave! The restaurant is tired & dated, needs a refurbishment. Our evening meal was well cooked but again the menu is dated ( early 80's). Has an Italian name but only 1 Italian option.

Very clean and lovely place to be. Central location 5 minutes to town centre. very lovely staff and managers. They did all what they could to make my daughter feel special for her birthday. Very comfortable beds and spacious family room. The only thing is if only they could provide small fridge in the room. Otherwise, l would highly recommend it, and we will definitely be back .

Fantastic location for the city centre The room needed a good clean,so much dust on the lights and in the wardrobe. The bathroom door made an awful noise during the night. The toilet roll was so cheap and nasty. Breakfast was cold, asked for fresh toast and it was still cold. Need a toaster so you can do it yourself. The car parking is extra £9 a night which is a wrong if you are staying there .

Location spot on, it's a 3 star hotel and main thing for me is the rooms are a bit dated. All perfectly adequate but older style TV, bathroom older style, lighting in the rooms plentiful but a bit random in what lightswitches does what. Anyway comfortable bed, great to have parking and good all round. Breakfast could be improved with fresh toast per table when tea/coffee is ordered and a bit of continental meat/cheese.

Fab hotel rooms spacious but bathroom needed another handrail to get out of Bath found it very difficult and slippery. Restaurant very nice and food delicious. Staff so cheerful especially the scouser haha. Have stayed here couple times and can't really fault it. Spa good as well . Would recommend.

This is a nice hotel. The staff are brilliant and can't do enough to help you but I can't see how they can justify the price for the rooms. For over £200 a night I'd expect a larger room for a start and a bit more quality in the finish of the overall space. The mattress was very very soft leading to backpain and the wifi is awful which today is a basic requirement for people who want to stream films at night etc. The spa is nice with pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Upgraded doors and windows would be a great improvement also as it sits right next to a very busy flyover

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Room bit dated but spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent . Great location for city centre. Swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi great place to relax and unwind. Would definitely stay again xx

This hotel needs updating and currently doesn't reflect a 4 star rating. The rooms in the old side have no air conditioning so were very stuffy and the provided desk fan did nothing to help. The bathroom facilities were poor without even a towel rail. Seating provided were too big for the room and clearly re-purposed from the Reception. Only ate once in Restaurant because meal already paid for. Menu very dated and didn't have any daily special. I will definitely return to Chester but NOT this hotel. Given a higher rating for staff as they were friendly and did the best they could.

Super friendly service. Good breakfast and diner. Large size carpark in front just for guests. Our room was clean, warm, a bit old and a good size room. The location is a perfect distance to the city centre.

The lodging was spotless and the rooms were overall quite roomy. The bar staff were very discourteous we was advised to discover a seat and somebody would get together subsequent to holding up 20 minutes I went to the bar and requested a beverages menu I was then advised to plunk down and shot a menacing glare and somebody would come over again an additional 10 minutes pass by lastly got a beverages menu to arrange a beverage no expression of remorse for the brief stand by to arrange a beverage I wouldn't see any problems yet there was not really anybody in there, then, at that point we went to gathering to check whether we could take a dip and she just gazed upward and said completely reserved and set her head back down i'm not sure why utilizing the reality were in a pandemic to be inconsiderate to individuals habits cost nothing particularly when it was one of the more costly inns. On a positive the morning meal was stunning and all the staff were really useful and agreeable in the café room was decent.

Stayed here in March forgot to leave a review then. But we had a great experience it's an amazing place to stay and I had a great time celebrating my 21st here, the best part has to be the pool area where I ended up having some great chats with people and meeting some new faces.

This was our second visit, a lovely and friendly hotel. Room was large and bed comfy. Breakfast was help yourself, good selection to choose from. Unfortunately we had to leave earlier as my wife took ill but we are now planning our next visit. The Hotel is in a brilliant location, easy to get into Chester, 5 minutes walking. Well worth a stay if you haven't already.

Stayed here for two nights. A large bedroom, which was clean and tidy with a large comfortable double bed. We had breakfast. A lovely choice of cereal, pastries and/or cooked breakfast. This hotel has a lovely bar and separate restaurant, with a nicely priced menu. It is literally a 5 minute walk from the centre of Chester and I would definitely stay here again

An absolutely gorgeous stay. The rooms were stunningly clean and comfortable. The food at the restaurant was excellent. The staff at the reception went above and beyond to help however they could. And the pool was increble, with a jacuzzi and sauna poolside too. We didn't get a chance to visit the spa or gym but other guests did say how good they were. I suppose we'll just have to go back and find out next time.

  • 4/5 Sophie M. 5 months ago on Google
Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was large with a bath and a shower. There was a pot of noise from the road if the indoor was open. However, once shut, you were unable to hear it. The servers were very friendly and the food was good. The womens changing rooms were a bit smelly, however, and the pool, although a good temperature, was extremely echoey to the point where you could barely hear yourself over the noise. Altogether though, a great place to stay in the centre of Chester, only a few miles from the Welsh border.

The staff, the service and the location make this hotel a great hotel ! The spa and pool are fabulous! The evening restaurant staff are brilliant. The only issue was no air con, our room had a powerful but noisy table fan. However this did not spoil our stay. It should be something that the hotel consider tho. A very enjoyable stay

  • 3/5 Andy C. 9 months ago on Google
Room was ok, but felt small for £200+ per night. Patio door didn't close properly so potential security issue, plus road noise etc very noticeable. Booked with free parking, but charged £9 per day on arrival. Staff great, location not ideal as have to walk through run down area to get into Chester.

  • 5/5 Joy 7 months ago on Google
Large comfortable room. Small bathroom with a tempremental shower, although once running was good. Staff are friendly, efficient and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast was plentiful, more fruit would have made it perfect. The hotel is a short walk to the town centre and it is a lovely town to visit. Great stay.

Visited my parents who were staying here for a short break. Lovely position on the canal, just a short stroll into the centre of Chester. They stay regularly and always enjoy it. The hotel is a short walk from the station and the centre of Chester.

Had a great stay here. The staff are so friendly. You can use the spa if you arrive early, the jacuzzi is great, the swimming pool is big enough to have a decent swim. The breakfast the next morning was tasty and plentiful. A few minutes walk to the town centre. Loved it.

Great location and very nice inside, very good for parking the car and price for parking and the hotel. Breakfast nice, would b nice to have mushrooms and orange juice as a choice too but not an issue. Staff very nice and helpful. Chester is amazing, so many shops, history and food and drink. Will definitely be back, the Christmas markets are on and the atmosphere is wonderful. There is a cheese shop which provides samples to try which is great. It's a must visit, I didn't realise it was this good.

Been coming here for over 20 years, sadly it's going down hill. Breakfast used to be fabulous, very poor now,all pre cooked and kept warm,no orange juice. If you book spa treatments make sure you check what's included.....extra charges for robes and slippers £8!!!bit steep. 3 days notice needed if your friends want to treat you to a bottle of bubbly in your room and phone up to do so

  • 3/5 Suzanne G. 5 months ago on Google
Staff are definitely the best asset to this hotel. Comfy bed but very sparce facilities in the room. W paid extra for deluxe room canal side, which was nice and large, but basic cheap coffee sachets, although nice biscuits. Bathroom facilities very sparce (for the price), one dispenser on the wall in the bathroom for body and hair wash and not great. Get better facilities at premier Inn for half the price. Breakfast food not great, again staff lovely and very efficient at keeping things clean, but, the hot plate section very small for such a large room, and not a great selection, need to up their game if they want people to keep returning on their prices.

So, booked this for a spa day with my daughter, on the way (travelled from Northern Ireland) got a phone call to say they had to cancel our spa treatments as some one had phoned in sick. When we arrived at the hotel and explained about the phone call the guy in reception was so lovely and sent us in for breakfast, which was really nice of him, the staff have been really friendly and nice. The Pool is great, we spent a long time there, very relaxing The room, to be honest, is a bit dated, the shower is just above the bath and kinda dribbles over you, no dressing gowns and no movie channels, I was a bit disappointed how basic it was for the price, but it was clean and functional, and honestly, the hotel staff couldn't be nicer.

a bit upset with a few things about the room; pillows were hard, heating was on incredibly high & couldn’t find a way to turn it down, shower wasn’t easily accessible and was very difficult to find a temperature that wasn’t lethal! but other than that, nice place! the food was lovely and the staff were all very lovely too, looked forward to the breakfast buffet every morning!

We had a mini hen do mid week last week and we absolutely loved it. It’s walking distance of the train station and the town centre even with heavy bags! We booked the spa package and had been told one of us would have had to be an hour later due to staff but they arranged another staff member so we could all have our massage at the same time. The pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room were really lovely. A good place to wind down. The treatments were very well enjoyed. The restaurant was lovely and the staff were amazingly helpful, I’m gluten free and was given different options that could accommodate me same for breakfast which also was very good. The room was really nice I was a little worried as I had read reviews saying the rooms were out dated but i think they may have renovated some as ours was really modern. The bed were super comfy. Only gripes were that the ceilings in the rooms were low and had beams that made it lower which to me over 6ft found it a little difficult but It’s not a complaint. The shower was a little weak and I did struggle to turn it off, again it didn’t go very high as the low ceiling so if your tall over 5ft8 it’s a bit of a struggle. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful even the night staff letting us in at 3am, and we were allowed to use the cloakroom after checkout for a little while so we could have a wander around town before we got the train. I would definitely recommend for a night away, good location, seems to be busy, spa is great. Amazing price too I’d be happy to go again Thanks

Hotel room has everything that you need. Super comfy bed and fantastic shower. Breakfast good and dinner fantastic! Good bar/lounge too Staff all very pleasant and helpful. A special mention for the two receptionists, they were absolutely lovely, very pleasant, helpful and with such a pleasant manner about them. Second time we have been to this lovely hotel.

Went to the Mill house spa for my partner 40 birthday. We had a lovely time. The service from start to finish was excellent. The staff were all friendly, helpful and have a great sense of humour. The hotel was clean. The food was excellent. The spa treatment was out of this world. The hotel is in a perfect location. Just a 10 minute walk from the town centre. And plenty of car parking spaces. ( parking is £5 a day) truly a lovely time. Definitely would go back one day.

Great hotel. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Rooms are spacious and comfy. Breakfast was included and there was a lot of choice from. Had a full English breakfast and was yummy. Town Center is only 5 minutes walk. There is plenty of parking for only a small fee. I didn't use the swimming pool or had spa treatments but will do on my next visit. Would definitely recommend this hotel

A very nice hotel in a beautiful location. Jane has helped us check in and she was amazing, professional, friendly and super polite (superb customer service skills). The room view was on the canal ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👍🏻. Breakfast was basic but delicious, staff were very welcoming. However WiFi signal was very poor and this is the only criticism I have. Definitely coming back. Thank you for making our stay special.

Been here twice now. It's kinda weird, honestly. One of my rooms was quite small but had this sort or semi-log cabin vibe that was nice. The other room was huge but had a 1970s vibe and was across the canal and an absolute mission to get to via a mix of stairs, bridges and a lift! Overall though it's cool. The staff are nice and the rooms are clean and tidy. The bar is good and the rooms on the higher floors have fans in, which is a nice touch.

Stayed for a couple of nights. Most enjoyable experience. Will stay again. Rooms modern and very white but not a problem bathroom clean water hot. Food, homely with the usual touches. Dinner a touch pricey but for what you get and quality not bad really. Breakfast, jolly dashed scrummy served buffet ( due to covid ) Pool, sauna gym first class Clean tidy well supervised. Staff; what can I say about them. Professional most definitely uniformed absolutely Friendly oh my word so friendly made us feel so welcome Breakfast was a comedy show the host was terrific, yes it was a show but not put on, conversations remembered with guests. But all staff very good very friendly. And location perfect for city and walls Thank you for the experience

The Mill is a short walk away from the main centre. It's by the side of an urban canal and is modernized and repurposed into a hotel with bar and separate restaurant, with the use of spa facilities on the other side of the canal being joined by an enclosed bridge . Breakfast was good and evening meals excellent value for money. We enjoyed three nights there and would readily recommend the whole experience. The service is friendly and efficient.

Stayed here as a family of four - two adults and two children. Very decent hotel located close to the city centre. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Buffet breakfast was very good and all the staff we encountered from reception to housekeeping, to bar and restaurant were excellent - friendly and helpful, all equally very welcoming. Nice spa facilities - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was great value.

  • 3/5 Jeremy S. 1 year ago on Google
Great location. Good value considering it was a family fun day at the races. Our room was spacious but far too hot and we couldn’t have the windows open as we were by the main road which was quite noisy. Others in our party were in the older part of the hotel and though the rooms were smaller they seemed more welcoming.

It’s a good place to stay in Chester. Quite peaceful and comfortable. Rooms are good. Adequate space. Bath& toilet are rather small. Reception, lobby are spacious. Ample car parking. Canalside. Hotel 🏨 n two buildings- one on each side of canal. Very comfortable stay. Breakfast in Canaletto restaurant. For a vegetarian it’s quite limited for options. No regrets.

Every member of staff in this hotel was absolutely outstanding; they couldn't wait to serve us and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was very clean and tidy - we will be recommending you to everyone we know. The thing that stood out to us the most was that almost every person we spoke to was a returning customer!! Very impressive indeed!!!

Great location, older hotel but everything you need is there and staff are very helpful. Super comfortable beds - slept really well. Good Gym, pool sauna / steam room, near train station. No healthy options available at breakfast but dinner was great. Will use it again and recommend.

Just got back from a 2 night break and it was fabulous staff cannot do enough for you. And our room was beautiful. Breakfast was lovely too. And the spa topped it off with a swim jacuzzi and sauna. We will definitely be back. The hotel is near everything you need.

  • 3/5 ***JAI*** 1 year ago on Google
The quality of the hotel was lower than expected. Whilst the reception and dining staff offered great service, room maintenance wasn't too great. Firstly our room had a cracked sink, blocked bath plug hole and the television had a few dead pixels. The room needed a dusting. Sheets weren't changed by the hotel staff despite our request and toilet roll needed to be requested. Parking was reasonable but was limited as discovered when returning back to the hotel in the evening. The Spa facilities were however very good. Whilst the pool was a modest size it was used by very few as was the gym equipment. The trainers supervising the gym were helpful and friendly.

Hotel was great, room comfortable, clean and spacious. Breakfast was spot on, lots to choose from. The bar area was great to get back to after spending all day around Chester. Hotel is in a great location from the town, only 5 minutes either way. All staff were very polite and welcoming. Will definitely stay here again.

Slightly difficult to find but a nice hotel, I think redeveloped from a 19th century mill on the side of the canal. Nice bedrooms although slightly dated. Nice food and good leisure facilities. Found it strange that there is a £1 fee for lockers in the leisure club (not a deposit). Will recommend this hotel to colleagues.

Stayed for 2 nights for a family members birthday, had a lovely time. Bedrooms are comfortable, had a fantastic spa treatment (who knew that you could get tense in the feet!), and all staff warm and welcoming. I want to especially thank the restaurant staff, in particular a gentleman (I'm sorry I forget his name) who was really very good with us. Will absolutely coming again.

I simply give 2 stars due to the food. First of all let me state that the room we stayed in was lovely, front desk staff were nice and friendly too. However, the treatments we booked were mediocre I wanted a back massage with ooph but there was not much pressure in it. My husband could have done that at home- sorry. Secondly the food was very poor , the steak was tiny and although well done was dry and hockey puck like. I've had steaks were the chef is skilled and the steak still tastes lovely. The light bite was a jacket potato but the tuna was lobbed in a small black bowl and looked like cat food. It has no pepper, no sweetcorn etc just tuna. It may sound like I'm being mean , but the food was poor and we had to go out to get food. I am grateful for a lovely room and comfy bed but also grateful for coming across the lock keeper pub. The food is was super delicious 🤤 and my steak ordered the same way (well done) still had flavour and not only was bigger it was CHEAPER too!. I will return but for the location and comfy bed and area ambiance, however I will take my hungry belly over to the Lock Keeper .

Really lovely hotel. The rooms are spacious and cleaned every day. It is a short walk by the canal to the town centre. The spa facilities are good. I had a massage, which was lovely. The bar in the hotel has plenty of drinks to choose from. The staff were lovely and friendly.

Lovely location and delicious food in the bar. Very handy to be able to charge EV in the car park. Staff friendly and rooms have a lot of character to them. Only regret was that we could only stay for one night, but we’ll be back!

We stayed 3 nights, but very uncomfortable sleeping in the room. No air conditioning at all, there was a fan which did help but the noise kept me awake. The whole hotel was incredibly warm all Windows in the corridors had locks on them aswell. You could get the locked taken off but then u had the noise from the main road to contend with. Only paper cups in the room and no bottled water supplied. The hotel is lovely and it has a spa, good quality breakfast and evening meal, so made up for lack of sleep.

Overall ok. Breakfast, 1star, please upgrade the breakfast especially the fruit selection which was very poor and yogurts were revolting. Rooms were large, our bed was far too firm and the bathrooms need updating. Rooms were fairly noisy. Had a lovely massage and pool area was ok. Staff in restaurant were very helpful but reception staff were very unfriendly. Bar nice.

  • 4/5 Kevin E. 9 months ago on Google
Stayed here for 3 nights on a visit to see the Open Championship. As other have mentioned, great location, secure parking, EV chargers, friendly staff, decent bar. Room was comfortable. Nice hot shower, excellent water pressure. We were on the north side of the canal, so no road noise for us. Breakfast served buffet style, so in and out quickly, and the food was good (sometimes buffet food can get old, but the turnover was high and everything was fresh). We had some bar snacks (tasty) but did not eat dinner in restaurant. Downside: this hotel had the slowest wi-fi connection I believe I have ever had. I mean really slowwwww. Plus I had to re-sign in almost every time I opened my phone. Also, I do not believe the light fixtures in our room had been cleaned since Thatcher was Prime Minister. They had quite the coat of dust. The baseboards around the bed could use a bit of attention. Most everything else in the room was in good shape, so it was not like the entire room was dirty. Just could use some attention to detail. Overall I would not hesitate to stay here again, as long as I was sure not to get a room at the back of the hotel.
