Very fascinating tour through roman chester in this great exhibition. The tour guide (archaeologist) was extremely knowledgeable and fun. Tours run hourly (I think), so so may be worth booking in advance if needed although we booked ours on the day and came back 45 minutes later for it after a walk around the nearby shopping area. Great value for money and the kids will enjoy it too, especially at the end with the hands on activities area. It wasn't very well sign posted so hopefully they manage to get some street signage on the main shopping street next to it ensuring more visited visitors find this gem.

Great experience, the old excavation site underneath is awesome especially with the graphics that give you information all over it. Great for kids as plenty of kids activities for them to get involved. Will definitely be coming again. Even got kids dress up with loads of roman armour and accessories!

We visited with two 2year olds yesterday and they loved it. The museum was very interactive, taking us around 1-1.5 hours to go around. It has been really well designed and there are some really fun exhibits. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was easy to push a pram around, just one small step. It was priced just right for the amount of time we were there, good value for money. I would highly recommend, thanks for a great visit.

Fascinating Roman Museum. We were shown around by a really great guide. We walked through the Roman ship; the kids (8 and 6) loved the Roman swords, shields and spears. They enthusiastically acted out using the Roman toilet and sponge on a stick, and looked into the dig where you can see all the way down to Roman foundations. We learnt a lot from our very knowledgeable fun and friendly guide. Thank you! Highly recommended.

A great place to visit and my children loved it. The guide was brilliant and just rude enough. But not too rude, my 4 and 8 year old loved it. However, their online booking system allowed us to book a time that they were closed for school visits. Unfortunately noone answered their phone however we found a member of staff around the back and we sorted it and attended later in the day. Overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend it for children and adults.

Lots of things to read and look at, interesting facts for young and old alike. Easy to push a pushchair round, though unsure of changing facilities... Staff are friendly and knowledgeable! Great couple of hours trundling through history. We bought the multi ticket that includes the Sick to Death entry but have delayed our entry as we ran out of time!

Interactive experience, aimed more to children but we two adults enjoyed. Booking required to guarantee place as timed starts but we was able to walk in and get on next showing. Live actors take you back to Chester AD 49 when the Roman were there, talking about the food they ate, how they washed and visited the toliet. So if passing be a big kid and visit.

Wonderful experience here, the children learnt a lot about early Romans in Chester and were able to see some artifacts from excavations. The guide, Jennifer was amazing, and kept the children enthralled with her amazing knowledge

Salve! Absolutely brilliant experience! There ended up only being the 2 of us as a group cancelled and the actors were fantastic! Really immersive even though it was just the 2 of us. They did really well to keep it going and involved us in the whole thing. Highly recommended! Thanks all!

We did the Roman Soldier School with our 4 year old son and had a great time, with kids and parents grabbing shields and marching like Romans across Chester city centre, then practising sword drills and formations in the Roman Gardens, and even staging a kids versus parents battle! (about an hour total) Our guide was fantastic, yelling and screaming instructions and berating us for failing. The kids all seemed to enjoy it, learning how to form a shield wall and a turtle formation, and stories of poo floods.... I would highly recommend this tour to anyone with young kids.

A great place to visit if in Chester. It is mainly focused on the Roman occupation of Britania. A must go to place if in Chester.

Great Price, Good guides, and Solid History. The guides were very funny and attentive, I don't have kids but those that were on our tour were well looked after and engaged with. There is a nice variation of Roman history without the typical inaccurate gimmicks (Wolf Heads, Purple Togas, Flaming Pigs), all delived in a very engaging manner. Some of the elements needed an update, and I'd rather more time with the staff than a video but it was a good day out regardless, and a good place to take a date if they are into history.

Great museum experience for our kids (9 & 7) with interactive exhibits and brilliant, knowledgeable staff. Visited as they study the Romans at school and the "journey" through the museum really brings the Roman settlement/ camp to life. They loved dressing up as soldiers and gladiators, seeing what Romans ate and especially Roman toilet habits (!?!) A great place to spend a few hours and worth linking in to the amphitheatre for a historic walk around Chester. Lupus on the reception desk thrilled the kids with dramatic and gruesome facts about the Roman battles with Britons, recommend a trip here.

We had a fantastic family experience at this brilliant centre. The tour and 'show' is really well done, with an interesting amount of information and fact mixed in with the acting, sounds, smells and so on of the Roman experience. But really the best of it for us was the incredible customer service and exceptional kindness shown by the staff, especially on the front desk, and the patience and understanding shown while dealing with both younger and older members of our group. I would highly recommend spending 90 minutes here during your trip to this fascinating city. Thank you to everyone at Deva for their help.

This has the potential of a really good experience. And although we did enjoy it, I felt that there could have been more 'hands on' as the description suggests. I was disappointed that there was no one inside to run the AV station. A lot more AV simulation throughout would have been really helpful. There really wasn't enough explanation.

Brillent value, good informative, fun and engaging museum. Really recommend the Battle school, £3 for my 10 year old, free for my Under 5, and adults free. My lads loved walking thru Chester with roman shield and sword, the information on this was great, our host was really friendly and knew Their stuff. Good couple of hours spent.

Great place to visit if you want to learn Chesters history over the last 2000 years. The interaction and different learning tasks were really fun. The Roman legionnaires were very knowledgeable. It was interesting to see what was under the ground of Davies Bros my old motorcycle shop. Thanks to Tiberias (Scott) for all the info.

Fab day out and definitely value for money - so fun marching through chester as a legion of trainee soldiers and children the encouraged to make lots of noise and get into character and incorporated the roman gardens and the amphitheatre. Our leader was brilliant, funny and spontaneous without being scary for the kids 😄

A brilliant experience. Marching through Chester with a shield and foam sword. Not laughed so much for so long. Boys loved it and for 1hr 15mins followed instructions to the letter. Well worth a visit.

A great experience for all the family. The information is gruesome so interesting for adults, and the immersive videos and actors are great for the kids (and adults). The exhibition did not hold back from the dark stuff so it was accurate.

Very cool experience overall. Staff were in character from the beginning, greeting us in Latin, talking us through what we'd see. Plenty of info next to each display, videos throughout were interesting - particularly in the excavations. Didn't need to buy tickets in advance and there were only a few other people in there ~3PM Saturday. We probably spent around 1hr30 inside.

It was packed full of history and was thoroughly enjoyable. Guess you'd have to be a bit of a Roman-phile to truly love this place. I was impressed by the layout and the fact that it isn't trying to overawe you with intimidating, extravagant displays - it's giving you a detailed history of the Roman conquest, domination and eventual fall in Britannia. A truly great experience and one that I shall always remember.

We loved it here. We spent around 2 hours in the museum with two kids age 6 & 7. Even with some things changed / removed due to the pandemic there was plenty to amuse the kids and interest the adults. The active archaeology is fascinating. Around £20 for a family ticket.

Interesting and well laid out attraction. Classic style attraction with fake props and sets, but mixed with the actual excavations of part of Chester.

Great museum, has lots of interesting artefacts and a view of the original Roman road below Chester. The staff were great and has interactive items to teach children. Will go back again
