Good museum in the centre of Chester. Medium in size, takes about 1 to 2 hours to get round, displaying lots of the history of Chester including Roman times etc Definitely worth a visit. Free entry but they more than welcome donations. No parking, so park on town car parks where signed. Small gift shop, toilets on site.

Really interesting mixture of items ranging from roman to natural history, mostly covering the history of the Chester area. Learnt so much about the city. Bigger than I thought and can easily spend over an hour there. The building itself is also beautiful. Free entry too.

Old-fashioned museum in terms of many displays and some exhibits but it’s free. The Roman tombstone exhibit is fascinating, with clear explanations of the designs and carvings on the stones. I also enjoyed the house museum at the back, although the floor arrangement is confusing, as it’s not in chronological order. Spent about an hour.

I enjoyed walking round the museum. The experience was good. The staff were so polite and very helpful. It's a small museum anyway, but it is surely a good place to visit in Chester. The museum is very clean and COVID-19 conscious. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Chester.

Nice way to spend an hour or so and it's free there is a donation box but if you don't want to then no one is there to judge you (if you can give them you should as places like this need every little bit of help they can get). There are several different areas covering different themes such as natural history, personally there sections covering the Roman era in Chester is the best by far although this is all down to personal interest. The room with the various Roman grave stones is fantastic it's almost like stepping back in time. The mock Victorian house is another big plus and is very well presented. A little hidden gem with it just being slightly off the main streets of Chester but well worth looking for. There is something to keep most people entertained for a couple of hours, even the little gift shop is reasonably priced.

I like this museum very much. Sadly, the painters section was closed during my visit. This museum has got a great collection of pictures worth efforts and time to see them. I have witnessed great education action where school classes actively enjoyed learning the historical backgrounds of Chester. Place no fee entry. Donations are welcome and recommended. Nearby carpark. Buy tickets for all day and follow walk around city wals. Enjoy and feel Chester. Chester, it's a great place to visit.

An astonishing museum that tells no small amount of Chester's history. The Ancient Roman exhibits are vast and come highly recommended!

A very nice, original building in Chester. Made to a be a museum in the 1880's, the building itself is nearly as interesting as its contents.

When the teenager asks to go to the museum to have a look round as soon as she got off the train instead of the park. If that's what the teenager wants then not arguing with her as it kept her off her electronics whilst learning new things.

Friendly and helpful staff. This museum is wonderful for showing Chester throughout the years. Their Roman artifacts are superb but be surprised as it's not all about the Romans. Well worth a visit.

Great little museum in Chester with outstanding Roman artifacts. It's free to enter and has a variety of collections such as art, nature, silver and Roman tombstones. There's toilets facilities and a shop on the way out.

For such a small museum it was packed with information and interest. Art very good, Roman display full of information, back in time rooms very interesting. We had a good time, not the best museum but come on, it's free and interesting, with more funds this would be much better.

A small, but informative museum with an impressive collection. I highly recommend a visit if you are interested in Roman era stones and altars as there is a large collection here from the city. The staff are friendly and passionate about the heritage that they are stewards of. I really picked up on their sense of pride. Entrance is free, but they do rely on donations. We vety much enjoyed our visit.

A lovely little museum and I will return. It has a small gallery, small natural history section and a roman history section. Compliments the town very well, the staff were lovely and the shop was lovely, not too expensive.

The Grosvenor Museum has a wide range of interesting exhibits covering the Romans, Zoology, art history and more, with a lot focusing on Chester itself, even including a full house made up to be like different periods in time. They will often have on different exhibits about different topics, with the most recent as of my latest visit being about the history of the Chester Rows, an interesting topic. There are plenty of things for both kids and adults to enjoy, and even a place to sit and get tea and coffee. A great day out for the family to enjoy, though you may have to find other parking, since there are only two disabled bays at the front of the museum, though there are several places to park in walking distance.

Large museum, in an old building so no lift, which is a shame. (But this is Chester). If you go to the shop there is a old fashioned tea shop and various staged rooms, which I enjoyed. Yes there are stairs here but not as bad to climb. Layout of displays are good and spacious . Well worth a look.

We enjoyed our visit very much. We've been meaning to visit the museum for a while. We specially found the Roman artifacts interesting. It would've been nice if the café had been open, but there are plenty nearby.

Great museum, free admission, bigger than I thought and the little cafe is brilliant, you feel like part of the exhibition, lovely staff, well worth a visit.

Good museum for Chester's history and when I thought I'd reached the end, there was another part to the museum, a Victorian house. But I was hoping to get a bit of a fuller history of Chester. It does the Roman era wonderfully but had little else beyond that. But it does what it does do amazingly. Would recommend to lines of Roman history

Beautiful museum especially depicting Roman History. Provides a great walk through the history of Chester itself. We'll worth a look before doing the 'Hop on, hope off' bus
