Worse thing about our two-day stay was that the room was very disappointing! Firstly it was a family room as it had another bed in it and not what I booked according to the text. Also it was nothing like the pictures on the site and of the actual room we were supposed to be getting. The room itself was old, tired and dirty in places, especially wall coverings. The room was supposed to include, according the site, premium bedding, which appeared not the case, especially as we noticed a large tear underneath the sheet. We noticed this as we had to make our own bed etc as no housekeeping was done at all and no mention when we booked in. Again it was stated on the site as a feature of the room. Service was average and breakfast on day one was worst I had ever had for any accommodation I have stayed at. Second day though was much better. Really can't understand how so many people rate this place, maybe not genuine reviews or some people have very low standards. Or maybe all the other rooms are pristine! So not good really as this was supposed to be a special weekend away as a special occasion. Also can't believe Hotels.Com rate this as a 8.4. Obviously it means nothing and I won't go by this rating again.

Best thing about this hotel are the staff. So friendly can't do enough for you. The hotel it's self is clean but needing some TLC....bucket loads of it.

What an absolute gem of a find! Easy walking distance of Chester city centre, and a "steal" of a price! Really nice rooms, clean, comfortable, welcoming, and friendly. Of course, a great breakfast in the morning!

A quick, one-night stay just outside the centre of Chester. We were on a budget so this was about 15 minutes walk from the City wall. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were a little dated but very clean and functional. Breakfast was waiter service, I had full English, which had good portions and well cooked and my wife had the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Car parking facilities on site but very crowded, we couldn't get on there so we parked about 50m along on the main road (unrestricted) which wasn't an issue. Good value compared to other hotels located slightly closer to the centre, we will use this hotel again on future visits.

Lovely little hotel. Good rooms, great breakfast. But the highlite was the great staff, getting on a bit, my husband kept losing things, the charming, polite and helpful receptionist/ barman. Jack was so helpful. patient, and kind he deserves a medal for looking after us x

Lovely little hotel. Nice and quiet, clean and tidy. Good location, 10/15 minute walk from centre (£5ish in a taxi). With its own parking, convenient x

I stayed here recently as my husband was going through major surgery at a nearby hospital, I know this is not a 5* rated hotel but the service I received certainly was, I explained to Anna that I was unsure of the timing of his surgery and didn't want to book and then cancel, she was very kind and understanding and said she would reserve the next 3 nights, without deposit and just to keep them posted, my husband's surgery was cancelled until 3 weeks later when she again offered to do the same thing again, this time it happened and I was given a lovely ensuite room, spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly have wanted including good quality bath sheets, always a plus for me! There is a bar and restaurant which seemed to be very popular but I didn't try them out, also a lobby/lounge area for just relaxing, there's a small car park which I think is free, good location for exploring Chester, the staff were so accommodating and always asked about my husband, as I said it's not 5* rating but the treatment and kindness I received were definitely worth it. Oh and very competitive prices, you definitely get value for money.

I've just been to enquire about staying there and the restaurant menu. The door entering the reception was locked and there was 2 telecom buzzers which I tried twice to no avail. I opened the gate which led around the front to see if there was another way of entering, however I looked through the window and could see the receptionist sat in the room aside from the main desk on her phone so I went back to the main door and tried again, with no avail a. I then left.

Amazing service!!! Truly nice people who take care of yourself. They speak different languages to make you feel at home. Rooms are nice and clean and the food is really good. 5 STARS no doubt about it.

Warm friendly welcome on arrival, to a complimentary room upgrade, which was then moved from the second floor to a ground floor lovely room, as I have mobility problems and the receptionist had noticed this. Our room was spacious and lovely and warm, as was the large bathroom. Clean and aired and well furnished. After unpacking and getting ready to go out for the rest of the afternoon and evening, we had a drink in the hotel bar/lounge area, classically decorated, clean and comfortable. Outstanding choice of breakfast in the spacious allocated breakfast area. All staff friendly and accommodating to our needs. Fab freshly cooked to order hot breakfast, served as quickly as this allows. After being out shopping and sightseeing around the city all day, it was lovely to return to a nice warm hotel and dry comfortable freshly serviced room. We decided to dine in the hotel restaurant. The menu is limited, but this does mean a lower cost and great freshness to produce. Nothing was too much trouble, the food again cooked fresh to order, arriving promptly, hot, delicious and excellent value. Good car park, situated in a nice quiet residential area, calm, quiet and a short walk from the city centre. A fantastic independent family run hotel. Highly recommended, we will return.

Nice rooms, small bar and restaurant, reasonably priced and a short walk into town centre. Parking available for about 10 cars but on street as well. Breakfast was OK, had better but had a lot worse,

I booked a room for this hotel last minute while on business. The staff were friendly, the room...spacious if you're a teacup poodle. The water from my tap left a certain worrisome "crunch" in my mouth that pushed me to purchase bottled water from the Morrison's for my oral routine. The shower caddy had a certain rust to it, which was off-putting. There's no indication as to whether the rooms are cleaned daily? Weekly? But there's a note stating how to position towels in the bathroom if they are meant to be washed so I expected someone to come round while I was out for the day. I returned later that evening and the smell of my leftovers seemed to have marinated within the four walls of my matchbox suite. The icing on the cake was the toilet. The first night it worked fine, but the following morning... it couldn't seem to work up the water pressure to flush a standard sized bowl and I was fearing for the worst. Lo and behold I returned to my room fit for a queen ant in the late eve, wafting in the smell of the previous night's deliveroo and it was time; then and there my bowels decided that on this final night we would tempt fate. Of course the toilet only achieved a half flush. Of course I'm not going to round up the staff at 10pm on the final night of my stay to bin my leftovers and clap for the achievement I've left in the loo, so I did what any sensibly British indoctrinated adult would do and came to TripAdvisor for a rant and a moan. On the brightside, my room did have Netflix.

Great location for exploring Chester with parking on site. The staff are excellent. Thank you especially to Anna, Eileen and Tatiana. Wonderful friendly service at all times and nothing too much trouble. It's a little dated but clean , welcoming and comfortable. Dinner was OK but breakfast was excellent in every way. The elegant room was a little small and the bathroom was tiny but did the job fine. Good value for money. Thank you . Would recommend.

Superb location, within easy reach of the city centre or Chester zoo. Only 1 mile from the centre (easy walk) and 2 miles from the zoo. There's a car park that holds about 12 cars too. I believe there's a total of 26 rooms. They're a little small but suited what we needed it for. The top floor rooms have sloping ceiling though so not ideal for anyone around 6 foot! You can't accuse this place of scrimping on the heating! I expected it to go off at some stage, but it was on all night. I was that hot I had to get up and open a window....in March!! The bathroom had a heater (as well as a radiator), so great for a blast of heat if showering. Breakfast is served to order. The quality of the Cheshire breakfast was great and the level of service was exceptional. The staff were friendly and attentative and you didn't have to wait too long for anything. The owners are extremely friendly too. Overall, it was a really great experience. I would recommend this place to others.

Came for the weekend of 18-20 February, 2022. The place was lovely, old and a bit dated in parts, but it was cosy and welcoming. Loved the little areas for you to sit and have a drink, it was like being in a comfortable living room. The staff were so friendly but still efficient . Our room was a good size and we loved the decor , it was just so right for the place. The bathroom floor creaked a bit, but that did not spoil our stay. I mentioned it because I know there may be people who would find this a bit annoying. We were in Room 21. It didn’t bother us. There were quite a lot of stairs but they were short flights, so didn’t bother me too much. I believe they have a limited number of ground floor rooms. We ate breakfast on two mornings. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg was delicious, as was the full Cheshire breakfast, not swimming in grease, and it was hot. Everything was cooked to perfection. Didn’t eat an evening meal there, but that’s something we would do next time, as we would definitely stay here again. Well done, everyone at the Brookside.

Lovely place. Everyone was absolutely lovely with us. We chose to have breakfast included with our rooms and it was ok. All staff was very nice and ready to help. The hotel looks nice. The room was very small but cozy. The only downside was that it was so hot. We had to keep the window wide open at all times as the heating was on all day. Apart from that we had a good time.

We stayed in the four poster bedroom. It was lovely, clean and warm. The bed was really comfy. The bathroom was clean and had everything you need. Tea/coffee making facilities were available. Nice friendly staff. Only a ten minute walk into the centre of Chester too

Lovely welcome when we arrived the room was nice a little dated but it was lovely and clean adequate drawer space could maybe do with a few more coat hangers. Tea and coffee and biscuits in the room. Getting the temperature on the shower was a little tricky but at least the water was hot. There is a nice little restaurant area and the food was tasty and a decent choice. The staff were absolutely lovely friendly and helpful. There is also a small outdoor seating area and a bar. There are some parking spaces at the rear of the hotel.

Lovely hotel within walking distance of the town. The room was small but adequate. We did book the last room at the last minute. The bar was nice and breakfast was good. It's on a fairly quiet street so no noise. The only negative is the uneven sized steps due to the age of the building. Some were high and others very low which is quite disorientating. The staff were lovely. We would definitely book here again.

We have just come home from an amazing weekend here. The room was gorgeous, breakfast was excellent and all of the staff so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We are just planning our next visit.

Glynn, his Wife & the owner friendly enough people but the hotel needs some tlc. Example, due to a couple of issues with 1st room (14) we were offered an upgrade (thanks to Glynn) to room 7. Much nicer room with 4 poster bed & decor much better. Unfortunately the wash hand basin was choked up & was taking ages to drain. The shower had no pressure whatsoever & therefore had to miss showering for our 2 day stay. Didn't complain as we had been moved once already. The breakfast was very good & service at the bar (thanks to Glynn) being attentive. Would we stay again, probably not as to many issues to be addressed.

Great location handy for the city. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable beds . Room was nice ..up in the attic but it was very warm and stiffeling in the night . Could benefit from a couple of ceiling fans . Breakfast was included and very nice. Good value for money.

Just returned home from a weekend at this hotel with my daughter and mum, we were having a weekend in Chester to celebrate my Daughter being 30 and my mum being 80. We were made to feel welcome from the minute we stepped foot in the hotel. The staff couldn't do enough for you, the rooms were lovely and were spotlessly clean.Very modern seating areas around the foyer area of the hotel to sit and read or have a chat. I will definitely return and will be recommending to friends and family
