Stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal with a spa treatment. When something seems super cheap and a great deal, its possibly not all that good. The food was really good and staff members I spoke to prior to arrival were very helpful and polite. After arrival there were several incidences where staff were short with members of our party and felt like they were being deliberately awkward. The hotel itself is in desperate need of updating and more cleaning staff to handle the public areas. The hotel doesn't have a lift and this wasn't made clear prior to arrival. The back garden area is stunning and perfect for wedding photos. The room itself was clean and suitable enough for one night. Very unlikely to visit again or recommend to others.

Unfortunately, the hotel we recently stayed at fell short of our expectations. To put it one word, it was "grubby." We ended up cutting our stay short and moving to another hotel that was nicer and cleaner. As much as I dislike writing negative reviews, I feel that it's important for people to know that their hard-earned money would be better spent elsewhere. The room was not at all satisfactory and was in dire need of a deep clean. While we don't mind a well-worn or dated room, we believe there's no excuse for dirty rooms. We have shared some images to give you an idea. When we put our clothes in the wardrobe, they came out with huge clumps of dust stuck to them. There were clumps of human hair everywhere and food crumbs left on the carpet. The room was freezing cold, and the floorboards were incredibly creaky, which woke our children up when we walked to the toilet. To make things worse, we paid £24 for a pint of beer, gin, and a juice for the kids.

A new manager has just taken over and is doing his best to address the many issues. He has a good team with him and hopefully this will help make big improvements to a once excellent hotel. Our room was clean but a little dated, The breakfast was nicely cooked and presented well but limited choice. The swimming pool and spa pool were nice but I nearly fell over getting in pool as there is a sloping ledge that you really can't see. Also there were no toilet rolls in the ladies changing room and a very soiled loo.. It would have been nice if shower gel was provided too and gowns for the ladies having a spa day. This hotel has such a lot of potential and I'm sure the new manager will be successful in turning things around.

Quite simply depressing. Building is in real need of being updated. Pool wasn't clean. I don't think they know what bleach is. We booked this hotel on the basis that the spa facilities would be available. But on arrival told they were out of action. Certainly don't expect to see sand or sediment in the pool. We came back to the hotel in the evening to be greeted by the smell of weed!!!! We booked this hotel in place of the double tree to see if it was in a level par and it certainly isn't....... The photos are deceiving. On arrival you'd expect the Adams family to be living in it. It was just out of date and needs a lot of investment. Will not be booking this hotel again. And I will issue a complaint with the hotel directly. I will also be looking to see what section 75 covers in respect of such a dire hotel booking.!!!!!

Would not recommend staying over. Came for a wedding and more than a few people complained about there rooms, 1) headboards dusty and walls full of cobwebs. 2)some rooms way to hot couldn't turn radiators down. 3) disabled room had no heating at all but staff did bring a heater into the room but wasn't enough. 4) not fussed(my preference) on wedding co-ordinator found him to be a little to pushy on the wedding schedule. Can you do the speech now! Can you cut the cake now! instead of doing it when we were ready. Would definitely recommend the meals and the restaurant 😋

A really bad experience sadly, early for check in so we were sent to the leisure area by a surly receptionist, then another guest told us towels were only available at reception so had to go back to reception to request. We had booked a double and a family room at £100 & £125 for 1 night. We were given a small double and a twin (one of our party had dropped out) so I mentioned this to the manager that we had paid for a family and only got a double, in the end he relented and offered us free breakfasts in exchange for a good review, I agreed but sadly things got worse. No remote control in room (back to reception!) and as we searched for it we found filthy tissues, clogged with dust behind the shockingly poor furniture. Divan base badly stained, decor tired at best and curtains must have been there since the 80's. Shower ok but no hairdryer in room. Back to reception (again) to request one and told there weren't any, I offered to go to the leisure facility to dry my hair but was told 'it's closed madam'. Finally they found a hairdryer (from the 1970's!) but this actually blew up in my hand with sparks and black smoke! Back to reception with it, receptionist could not have cared less, no apology or concern (and definitely no electrical safety sticker on the device!) Went out into the cold night with wet hair. This place needs either shutting down or a significant investment to bring it up to date. The manager actually was really nice and the breakfast good, but I travel extensively for work and have stayed in hundreds of hotels over many years, this has got to be the worst....do not spend your money here!

All the Staff were lovely, especially the young girl on the front desk, so helpful, gave us plenty of info about the zoo and the local area. Breakfast was very good, tasty and plenty of it. We had the pool and leisure facilities to ourselves on wed morning and that was a bonus. We enjoyed so much we ended up staying an extra night. We will be back .some parts of the hotel need some slight attention, but it's so much better than some of the reviews state. We loved it

Ignore previous reviews, we checked in with Chelsea at reception who couldn't be more helpful and the next day all of the team followed suit. Facilties were exceptional , I swam every day and the pool and spa area were all clean and tidy and functioning correctly. Breakfast is highly recommended as the quality was outstanding and the buffet meant lunch was not required!! Rooms were clean and tidy and all staff were polite courteous and couldn't do enough to help. The dog loved it too! so we will be back next year or even Xmas for a few days. Thanks to all for a superb stay ... 5star hotel. ( I've stayed in many premium hotels around the world with work and have not had the level of service we got here) Don't let the standards drop team !!! You should be proud of yourselves. :-)))

Nice staff, comfy bed, clean, but dated. However it’s very dog friendly and even though it’s a bit dated decor wise it did feel laid back which was nice with having a dog. Had a good nights sleep and nice breakfast so can’t complain. And handy location if your coming off the motorway and easy to get to Chester, the Zoo and north Wales. The room was big and airy and you couldn’t hear the main road.

What a shambles of a place. I went with my wife for a ‘spa day’. We arrived to the wonderful aroma of weed from by the main door. We were then told there were no locks for the lockers unless we were carrying a padlock on us. There were limited amenities. No steam rooms, no hot drinks, no shampoo, no conditioner, no shower gel, no gowns, no slippers. Then they forgot to meet my wife for her treatment. After half an hour she gave up and left. If I could give this absolute hell hole of a place a zero star rating I would. Avoid at all costs.

Really don’t know what to say. Really not good we walked I’m afraid. The manager was understanding and I did receive a refund. We should have known looking at the entrance did not look at at all like there web photos. Went up the stairs to our room the stairs was covered in dog hairs. Owned the bedroom door to well. The bed was thrown together the Tv was on a slant and the carpet was stained everywhere. To top it all of there was a cigarette on the floor. The curtains had big holes in them . The view was terrible.

I stayed for several days and enjoyed it very much. The manager is very active and always about. He runs a great team. The facilities are great. The fitness suite does what it is intended with plenty of equipment and free weights. The pool area is clean. The jacuzzi was relaxing, and during my stay, there were only one or two people using the pool. There is a sauna that i enjoyed completely on my own. My room was very tidy, and whenever i returned from a trip, it smelled nice. Staff regularly asked if i needed anything. They have a number of services available, such as laundry and a salon. It was very quiet even though there were quite a few guests during my stay. There is an area to sit and relax, which is opposite a bar. It has comfy sofas and leads out into a beautiful garden. The restaurant is to the side of this relaxation area. So you can go and order meals, eat and then relax with a drink. The food was great along with the service. Access to local tourist spots is easy to locate on foot or a short drive into Chester town for sightseeing. Various rooms are available depending upon what you require. It is very relaxed. If you need to get away from things for a while, it is ideal. Free WiFi. They even have brollies at reception, in case it should rain and you require one. The manager has worked in this business most of his adult life, so he knows the customer and knows how to run things properly.

The gym and pool are good and the location being near the zoo are the ONLY things worthwhile about this place. The breakfast feels primarily tinned, the fruit selection for breakfast was most definitely just tinned. The rooms look like something out of a nightstalker documentary. The service.....my god, the service. We asked for an iron for our room, that never came. One cheeky **** told us we hadn't got breakfast included dispite showing him out order forms, only to realise after some persuading he was wrong. Upon arrival we got told to 'just sit over there'. The list goes on but I'll be honest I don't think I have the thumb strength to type everything.

Don't do it. Don't stay here. It really isn't worth the money. The building leaks, there's ceilings coming down, there's a stench of mold, it's freezing and whilst the staff are lovely the hotel needs pulling down. Outside our room is a bucket with brown water which stinks and is there to catch the drips from the ceiling. In our room there are various patches where the ceiling has been leaking, it's very run down and dilapidated. We've paid over £100 a night so were expecting better than this. We are currently looking for another hotel to stay in for the rest of our break. Don't believe the photographs, this is catfish in a hotel form.

Booked a spa day with friends for a treat ..... unfortunately the experience was full of minor flaws which spoilt the day......the 2 ...only 2 members of staff however were really nice friendly and very helpful...the reception manager had many hats from reception kitchen gardening the bar ....that we saw !!! And its these 2 staff that stopped a lower rating... One alarming issue was that a few guests had dogs roaming around the bar and restaurant area.....a legal requirement is dogs in public places should be under control on a lead and wearing a collar with id...none of which did..our group are all dog owners so wernt too put out but other guests may well be... A good clean a fresh coat of paint and more staff would have made a more pleasurable day

Booked a spa day as birthday treat. Very short staffed. Waited 30+ minutes for our cream tea after being served coffee in dirty teapots. No lunch menu so unable to order sandwiches. Sauna and steam room both out of service so lack of facilities to use. Message however was the best I’ve had. Wonderful therapist who was very friendly and pleasant. Pool area very dated and changing rooms dirty. Reminded me of a council leisure pool. Only 4 loungers by the pool so nowhere to sit if you’re not wanting to actually swim. Would not recommend.

Makes Faulty Towers look good!! How is this hotel even open? Run down. Looks abandoned. Roof collapsing. No staff. Cleanliness seems a low priority. Spa treatment done by unqualified temp. Lighting apparently not needed. Don’t risk the ‘food’. Just stay in a hostel or a tent, or even your car. Just don’t go here, ever.

The hotel is a total disgrace. Very over priced for what it is. When I entered my room my eyes stung as the smell of bleach was over whelming upon further investigation it was clear to see that bleach was used to wipe away damp stains. I didn't complain to the management as I'd already complained about another issue and it was dealt with an indifferent attitude so to save myself from getting stressed i left it. The whole hotel was very cold and left you feeling uncomfortable. I would not recommend anyone to stay here until they have dealt with the issues that are there. If want a decent breakfast don't eat here and waste £10 there is a Stonehouse down the road we're you will spend less and get more. All in all an horrendous stay and its badly manged. The manger should go work at Karen's Dinner he'll fit right in with his approach to guests

The staff was very friendly and polite, the only positive take away from the stay. The room keys didn't work 3-4 times during my 2 night stay. The corridor to my room from reception was spooky, there were leaks and the storage room doors creeks..! The food I had breakfast and dinner was below average and not in the level of a 4 star hotel. The only good thing is proximity of restaurant to a beautiful garden and for the breakfast I requested to sit in a window table and the guys refused saying its not set for one person, in a place where there is hardly anyone eating..!

Very warm welcome..especially at breakfast when being served by a young waiter called tom..he truly was excellent at his job. Was little disappointed to find our door left open after returning after few hours of being out and only towels were left in the room.. no beds were made or toilet paper left either . Also was declined ice when my son asked the bar man as he said "no more" after his 2nd time. Found the lady at the pool very friendly and the receptionist was very accommodating and friendly too when checking in.

Really disappointed with how this hotel is. I used to look at the hotel and think wow. Sadly that was many years ago. The hotel hasn't been updated. The rooms are old dingy and bare. The drinks are ridiculously over priced. £8 for one drink but bar staff make up the prices depending on how they feel. 4 drinks for £45 the same 4 drinks £36. I'd love to go back when the place has had work done.

Lovely place. Attended a family wedding. Staff were great. Rooms OK but our room had broken catches so couldn't leave open as the wind blew them . Otherwise awesome hotel. 👌

Great locality for Cheshire Oaks and the zoo. Family friendly with garden area. Breakfast was very basic, not really a full English and no pastries/continental but what was available was fresh and hot. Some areas are dated but has been renovated since my last stay 4 yrs ago. Highly recommend staying and would choose again when I'm next in the area.

A bit shabby and very basic. Our bathroom door didn't shut properly, the TV remote was held together by gaffa tape and the decor of the rooms was circa 1989. However, the staff were amazing, the food was good and it was clean. The pool and jacuzzi were nice, the gym and squash court were great and we enjoyed our spa day. The sauna held a maximum of 4 people so there was always a bit of a wait for that and the steam room was out of order, which was a bit disappointing. Bet we had a lovely weekend, and Chester itself was interesting and vibrant, bur the hotel is 2 miles from the centre so we drove in and parked.

Great murder mystery evening Dinner served was tasty, hot and delicious Staff really friendly. Bar prices bit expensive but all hotels are. Breakfast was lovely Rooms dated and tired but warm and shower was great. Yes I would return

A nice enough hotel, I believe rooms are being refurbished as they seem to differ in standard. My room was pretty basic, unfortunately for me as a light sleeper, bring next to the road on a hot summer night, meant I slept very poorly. Also as the bed itself wasn't very comfortable and the light came streaming through the windows very early in the morning it felt very rough. Breakfast was fine, although they seemed to struggle to keep up with the demand.. Staff were grear

We were booked to go here on a spa day for a hen party. First impressions of the spa was that it could definitely do with up dating and a huge deep clean. Toilets doors were broken, the floors were dirty, the sauna floor was dirty and I shared it with a few spiders! The spa treatments rooms could also do with a deep clean as I couldn't help but notice all the tumbleweed of other people hair floating about whilst trying to have a relaxing back massage. The communication wasn't great with the hotel , we had our times messed up a little as we received no confirmation of when we were arriving. Being the first to arrive I was left in a dimly lit room and not told how to access the spa etc whilst I waited. We were also originally told we had a choice of spa treatments (5 choices) but on the day we were only offered 2 choices. This may be down to be short staffed which I understand can't be helped. This places has great potential to be a lovely spa/hotel in a good location in Chester but it needs a great deal of updating.

  • 3/5 Claire B. 1 year ago on Google
In desperate need of updating. The rooms are spacious and the bed very comfy but the tv was tiny and could barely see the screen. In desperate need of a window cleaner, I don’t think they have been cleaned in years. On a positive note, the staff were lovely (other than a member of staff serving breakfast who made it quite clear, she despised the job), the facilities good although the sauna and steam room were out of order the pool and jacuzzi is outstanding. Would we stay here again? Yes we probably will.

  • 2/5 Abbie S. 1 year ago on Google
Came for a spa day and was quite disappointed. The massage itself was good but the facilities not so much, half of the facilities were out of order, and everything is dirty. The hot tub had dirt swirling round the bottom of it, the floor surrounding the pool was filthy. There wasn’t really anyone there either, like no staff or guests it was weirdly quiet. Also it’s clear that the main reception room doesn’t get used as everything had an inch of dust on it. It was a bit weird when we arrived as well as we booked for the Sunday but then had an email to say that they had messed up the booking system and could we please swap to the Saturday - which was fine as these things happen but when we got there it was like they were surprised we were there… and the masseuse seemed confused that there were 3 of us. The spa facilities weren’t very “moody” either, it was very bright and not very cosy - almost clinical. All in all it was a bit weird, dirty and it definitely does not look like the photos. Wouldn’t recommend.

Very friendly staff nothing was too much trouble. A charming hotel full of Character and beautiful features. Sadly a little tired it could be amazing . We had a lovely comfortable stay . I was the only one in the pool which was bliss. We got our stay for a fantastic price and were very pleased with it. If you want 4/5 star luxury this sint the place for you but as a budget hotel I would highly recommend it. We would definitely stay again if the price was right. Xx
