Phenomenal doesn't even begin to describe this place. I don't really eat a lot of meat very often and I love vegan food. Came here for lunch with my mum today after she insisted I would love it and EVERYTHING was above and beyond my expectations. Every single thing we had was just delicious and gluten free too!! My mum has celiac disease and it's so nice to find somewhere with incredible vegan food AND gluten free options in the same place. The potato terrine is just amazing and we had to get two! Phenomenal food, lovely service, and such a sweet little place with the most wonderful atmosphere. We sat on the balcony and it's just beautiful. Already planning what I'll try on my next visit.

Came across Shrub when trying to find a vegan friendly place in Chester. Absolutely amazing food and cocktails. Fun and original options for a vegan (or anyone) to enjoy and even the classics (like burgers and fries) were to just die for. Staff were lovely and attentive and we will definitely be back to try more things on the menu :)

Amazing food! Visiting Chester for a few days and found this fantastic restaurant on the first night. I had the Kimchi burger (the burger itself is a fried chicken style burger) and my husband had the house burger (a beefburger style burger). Both were incredibly tasty. We had miso fries on the side and artichoke wings. For pudding we had the key lime pie and the apple dumplings - I did want the miso chocolate cheesecake but they were sadly out. The puddings were as flavoursome as the mains, a real treat. I cannot fault the food at all, some of the best vegan food I've ever eaten! I had a kiwi and jasmine mule to drink (the drinks menu is lacking in AF ciders and offers one AF beer) which was also lovely. The toilets are a bit of a trek away up two flights of stairs, but they have baby changing facilities which are always good to see. We sat indoors, very low light conditions but it made for a cosy atmosphere.

Absolutely amazing location, food, atmosphere, music...everything!! Really good quality vegan food. So impressed and would recommend to all. The staff are fantastic too!! :)

It’s so amazing to go to a restaurant and have choice! Usually most menus offer 1/2 vegan options max but here everything is plant based. Absolutely delicious tapas food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely come back!

I was taking a stroll through Chester centre and stumbled across the Shrub and was not disappointed. It is pleasantly decorated and has a semi outdoor area that over looks the main shopping street and Chester's beautiful architecture with a roof overhead. The cocktails were fantastic and even though I didn't eat, the food looked amazing. Can't wait to go back there soon

Wow . . . My partner chose here and as she said I pulled my face but I actually loved it . We sat on the balcony but inside the restaurant is very nice indeed . The mushroom calamari was especially nice . All the dishes we had were delicious and this is coming from someone who normally only orders stuff like mix grills , well done SHRUB I'm definitely a convert . Staff were very nice aswell 👍👍👍

Such an amazing place for any vegan and anyone with food intolerance or allergies. We arrived without a booking and they found us a place during a busy Sunday lunchtime. The atmosphere is very chilled and the service is excellent. Not to mention the portions will definitely fill you up, which is not always a given at a vegan place. It makes me wish I lived closer, so I could try more meals from the menu. Definitely will be returning, anytime I am in Chester.

Genuinely some of the tastiest food I've ever had, vegan or otherwise! Been a few times now and tried, between my party, pretty much everything on the menu - there's nothing to not love. Staff are friendly, attentive, welcoming and helpful, service is quick but not so as to feel rushed. The decor, music and general vibe of this place are absolutely spot on. Given the quality of the entire experience, the price is beyond justified. I've paid more in worse restaurants.

Perfect as always Shrub offer small plates of amazing vegan food that anybody would enjoy. The meatballs are my personal favourites I don't know what they do to them to make them taste that good, the tofu was also beautifully cooked with a texture I've never had before The staff were friendly and the food arrived quickly, the bar can be very popular so if you're not there to drink I advise you arrive early

How wonderful to discover a superb veggie restaurant in the delightful Chester 'Rows'. Our lunch there was the culmination of very special day to celebrate my granddaughter's birthday. Will certainly be returning.

Can't fault this place! The staff are amazing! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very warm and cozy! Took my daughter there for a birthday meal and they made us feel very welcome! Thank you guys! We will definitely visit again ❤️

Landed here for lunch after checking Happy Cow for vegan restaurant as I was visiting Chester with family for my birthday. What can I say. Lovely atmosphere, we sat outside overlooking the Rows, staff was bubbly and friendly and really appreciated that, it makes the difference sometimes to the experience. Food 10/10. We ordered focaccia, meatballs, pesto gnocchi, a kids portion of pasta, some fries, artichokes wings and desserts. Everything was delicious. We are now planning to return to Chester and will be back 100%!

Loved it here! We came for dinner and it was amazing. My husband isn't vegan and even he wants to go back when we're are in the area again. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were knowledgable with the menu for my daughters soy intolerance and adapting food for a toddler offering a plain tomato pasta for her. We had the hummus starter adapted with less oil etc for my daughter, it was lovely. We then had the crispy sprouts, vegetable gyoza small plates and the 'lamb' ragu and pumpkin tortellini pastas for our main part of the meal. All if it was delicious. We had dessert as well; apple dumpling and cookie dough blondie both fantastic too! Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Lovely spacious restaurant with beautiful decor. Food was delicious and generous portions. Even non vegan members were pleasantly surprised. Good choices on menu. Highly recommended!

Hands down the best food we have ever had. Absolutely delicious and good value for money. A lot of vegan places make the mistake of being solely health foods or solely junk, this place gets it just right. On one hand you can have a salad and cold press juice, or a seitan burger with parmesan fries. So impressed with this place and will be returning, staff are lovely and extremely helpful.

Fabulous food. Really tasty and nicely presented, great selection of vegan food. I'm not vegan, but i most certainly did NOT miss not having any meat choices. Highly recommend the kofta and "camembert', actually scrap that, i recommend all that i tried. Wine also spot on! staff chatty and able to tell you about their produce. Lovely spacious venue, child friendly, lovely bar area inside, great seating area on the rows outside. Nice big swing seat inside. Not sure it would be accessible for those with mobility issues, bathroom facilities up a winding staircase and another bar area on the second floor. Lovely decor throughout.

Amazing food, I'm not a vegan but wow does everything taste amazing here! The vegan burger really does taste like the real deal!

Lovely friendly staff who offered great menu recommendations. It was a little quiet, but we went early in the day and enjoyed the chance to sit wherever we fancied. The terrace is a big plus. Absolutely incredible food, we can't wait to come back

Lovely warm, cosy atmosphere - and our food was amazing! Just delicious. We had a Sunday roast, and the pumpkin stuffed tortellini, in creamy white wine sauce, with hazelnuts and sage ..💚 absolutely recommend. The staff were lovely too.

My husband took me here for my birthday and I had the most amazing time. This place serves the best vegan food I've had in years while eating out! The food was hands down incredible!!! My Sunday vegan roast took me back home to some really good Jamaican cooking. The food was well-seasoned and tasty and the presentation was on point. I would recommend this restaurant any day. The decor was quite beautiful, the aesthetics were lovely and the service was amazing, 10 stars for Shrub. Keep up the good work.

Absolute diamond of a plant based cafe/bar. The staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and couldn't be more helpful. The food is some of the best I've ever eaten. Dog friendly and gorgeous surroundings make this a 10/10!!

Super cute place, not only the outside balcony area is gorgeous and perfect for a cheeky coffee in summer time. The inside looks just as stunning. The design all around fits the vibe of chester. The food was amazing. Had the waffles and they were super soft and warm. Service great and welcoming.

Our party was 2 adults and 2 children and we all found the plant based dishes delicious. Portion size was generous, especially the desserts. There was a wide variety of drinks including nice mocktails the kids could enjoy. Red velvet latte was great for those with a sweet tooth. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is a really relaxed and pleasant place to eat. Will definitely be visiting again.

Fantastic food and lovely cocktails. Didn't realise it was vegan until we saw the menu but it tasted amazing! Sat out on the balcony and it was so nice as there was a busker singing in the street. Would highly recommend.

Lovely, quirky vegan restaurant, staff were really friendly too. I highly recommend the roast, they go for quality over quantity on the plate. Wrap my wife had tasted a little on the basic side though, so 4* instead of 5*.

Such a gorgeous spot! I didn't try any food as I was there for a meeting, but the hot chocolate (both of them) was perfect. A real laid back vibe, the interior is really lovely and the outside space is beautiful too. Will definitely be back!

Vegan dreams! Such an amazing spot. Beautiful decor, delicious food and friendly staff. I had three courses which just kept getting better. Had two really lovely meals here, both sitting on the balcony, which is a lovely space, but the fully inside areas also look amazing. Loads of great options, nice drinks, and friendly service. I especially liked the corn "ribs", not something I have seen before or would have thought to do, but they work so well!

Saw this restaurant online from another search on Aunty Google!! This restaurant is in a prime location in Chester and looks fabulous and has dining inside and also on the terrace overlooking the main shopping area. The menu was on the app, but a normal menu was available upon request. The food was amazing, I had the Laksa Curry and my friends had Falafel salad, Pesto pasta , Avacado and Bacon. Visually, the food was stunning and tasted fantastic. We are all vegan and would recommend this restaurant to all vegan and non vegans. Let your taste buds do the talking!! Cheers Shrub, we will see you again the next time we are in Chester.

Delicious food right in the heart of Chester. Friendly, attentive staff let us change last minute so we could people watch from our balcony seats. Oh, and the food was vegan though you wouldn't know it. Gorgeous!

Incredible food which got better with every course. Tasty, innovative and appealed to even the biggest carnivores of the family. Would highly recommend. Every dish ordered was a big hit!
