The biggest Hindu temple in this town, even in Indonesia. Located in Little Indiatown which most of the citizens here are Indian descendants. It is opened for non Hindu or tourists. Before you enter inside the temple, you must wash your hand, feet, and face. Same like Muslims before enter mosque. It age is 136 yo. The ornaments inside and outside the temple is so wonderful and reflect pure Hindu faith, gods and goddesses are stand stall. This temple was officially signed by former North Sumatera governor, and had fully restoration in 1991.

A large Hindu temple in Medan. This temple is lavishly decorated. As you stroll along the road nearby, incense smell is prominent. The walls around it are also decorated and nicely painted.

Open everyday, closed at noon and open again from 4-8pm. Would suggest to come in the evening, more serene and kot much people. If there’s ceremony it will be better as when i come was empty even the aarti is not lighted on. But still gorgeous and worth visited.

Shri Mariamman Temple is a place of prayer for Hindus. Hinduism is different from most Hindus in Indonesia, especially Bali. However, for its adjustment in Indonesia, the term Hindu Dharma is used. They are people’s of Indian descent, which is still thick their India. In Medan it is estimated that there are still around 10 thousand people, scattered in Little India Medan (formerly known as Kampung Keling), and several places in the regency. In this temple there are 3 priests, we met one of them. This priest's name is Saren Kumar. The person is still young, 28 years old and has 2 children. This Priest was very kind, friendly, open and gave whatever information was needed. Apart from being a place of prayer, in the area behind the Shri Mariamman shrine there is a large hall which is used for weddings, birthdays, or just banquets. And they can provide vegetarian food. Will be an interesting event, dinner while enjoying typical Indian music and art 😍 According to Bang Priest Saren's information, this temple has a traditional music group of young people who usually accompany religious activities, with various Indian musical instruments such as: sitar, tabla (Indian drums), harmonium, etc. So music is indeed a part of their worship procession. Bang Priest Saren said there is one of the worshipers of this temple who is a senior musician for worship, and is very well known, is usually invited to perform to fill religious music to Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand. And he said "the best" for musicians and vocals of traditional Indian Tamil songs, could be the level of Southeast Asia. So far, the Shri Mariamman temple has been agreed upon and established by the government as one of the cultural tourism destinations in Medan. So, who are visiting Medan, please come here... high recommended 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

(Translated by Google) what impresses in this place is the hospitality of his religious leaders. although initially I was refused entry into the temple by the bride and groom's family because the marriage procession was being held in the temple. but finally the religious leaders who blessed their marriage invited me to the party that was held afterward. not as an invitation from the bride's family, but as an invitation from the religious leader. I did not come, but the emotion he tried to neutralize the atmosphere of rejection that initially occurred made me realize, that there are still good people out there. there are still people who care about diversity and accept those who enter the house of worship whatever their beliefs, as long as they do not do evil. thank you for giving me this calming experience. in the form of the building itself there is gopuram above the ornamental gate of the entrance to the temple area which is surrounded by walls. This ornament is often found in southern India and originally came from the Tamil Empire during the Pallava Dynasty. Gopuram is flanked by a pair of elephants which are sacred animals and are saved by Hindus. to enter the main building, we will find a statue of a 4-door doorman who holds a trident, mace, pasa and one hand with a warning attitude. In addition to the two statues of the doorman there are also other colorful statues around the temple that illustrate the story of the goddess. This vibrant color is also used in paintings that adorn the walls and ceilings of temples. the majority of the painting patterns are floral and lotus motifs. the existence of this colorful color seems to balance the shades of the shrine which is dominated by shades of gray.
