Tickets are Rp 50,000 per person. I go to a lot of museums in different countries, and I am sad to say this is one of the worst ones I've been to. They have a great variety and very cool items on display, but I can't recommend due to the following: 1. The museum is made up of 4 separate buildings. There is no AC except in one building (which barely worked on the second floor). The lack of AC makes the other buildings unbearable to walk around in and difficult to enjoy. Even with the windows open it was hotter inside than outside. 2. The museum is poorly maintained inside. Outside the buildings and landscape are stunning. Many of of the exhibits lightbulbs were broken, so we couldn't see the object inside the display. All the display glass were dirty making everything kinda fuzzy to see. 3. The items' information cards do not contain any useful information except the name, catalog number, what it is made out of, and the basic function. Usually musems will include approx. year and details about what the item is about and where it was found. If it had a poster containing such useful info, some were a bit faded. 4. Where do I start with the guides. You have to pay them extra if you want a guided tour. There is no set rate, just whatever you and the guide bargin. Our first guide was understanding when we said no (I personally don't like guided tours because I like to go my own pace and not someone else's). Once we walked into the first building, a different guide came in and would not take no for an answer. They tried guilting us and begging. They only left after another group came in, and we were able to escape by following them. Overall, I don't know who owns this museum, but you need to go see other museums and model after them, and actually take care of this one. If you're going to have guides, actually give them a wage and better training, so guests don't get harassed.

It’s a good museum with 50K for the entrance fee. It seems kids are free. I brought my day care nanny and two kids under 3, still charge for 100K~ I didn’t think much. But later I found local people have cheaper price? (My nanny doesn’t even really enter the museum) The displays and the buildings are nice~ I enjoy a lot. I only brought my 3-year-old son inside because my daughter fell asleep just when we arrived. Before leaving the tour guide ask for 200K for the service. He said two person for 200K. Crazy~ I gave 100K just because he mentioned he has two kids, one is 5, another is 10. But after I gave 100K still asking for another 50K, I said no more $.. I’m glad for the tour guide service, and I know it’s a hard time for most of the Indonesian,

You really need a guide if you want to go through and understand it all. Many of the displays don't have commentary so you don't know what you are looking at. Heaps of "guides" harass tourists as they enter, we opted for not taking one as they just kept insisting. Also, make sure you plan your transport back as there are no taxis around the museum.

This museum has a vast collection of cultural items, along with the historical background behind it. Though it is located at the heart of the busy Denpasar City, this museum is very tranquil, peaceful, and quiet. The green courtyard with beautiful traditional Balinese architecture make for a scenic pictures, even the locals are using this venue to take their pre-wedding shoot. Definitely worth a visit!

National museum of Bali, showcasing the art, history and culture of the Island kingdom established by Hindu rulers. Exhibits are arranged in a chronological order and you will get a glimse of history within the limited period of time available to you. An audio guide would have helped the visitors better understanding of the exhibits, but there seems to be a lack of interest in showcasing the museum. We were only three visitors, visiting the place on the day and the place requires a better maintainance and proper lighting. In INDIA I hvae seen people thronging such places with lot of enthusiasm and guides making a good earnings. In most museums and places of tourist interests, you will generally get audio guides. Such places also are a source of income for the archeological agencies.

A hidden gem in the city center of Denpasar. Friendly greeted by the counter. Nice outdoor area. Entrance fee of 25K for locals and 50K for foreigners. It has 5 buildings with different collection. A quick visit of 1 hour is sufficient. Unclear extra fees for guides. Car parking is available.

An amazing museum! We got a guide to take us through the 5 small buildings and it was totally worth it. It’s a walk through time and history for sure. Highly recommend this for anyone staying in town. If you’re a scholar of religions or have an interest in Buddhism 🕉️ or Hindu history of the region, this is for you!

(Translated by Google) It's really worth coming here. Tickets are 50000Rp. If you have time in Denpasar, I recommend this place. There are a total of four major buildings here, and each one displays something different. Before you come, if you have a little understanding of the history of Bali, you will understand more. After buying the tickets, some guides will come to you and tell you to introduce you. You must raise the price first, you can bargain, if the price is acceptable, you can continue to listen, or you will directly reject it. However, if you want to understand it, I recommend you to listen to it. You can learn about history, festivals, various cultural relics, folk culture, and listen to it. Ask more questions and you will find more different places in Bali. When I arrived there were very few people, so if you want to take a photo, it is also a very suitable place. The buildings, doors and statues here are very beautiful. I do n’t have much time to visit. The exterior walls are also beautiful for easy parking.

Has many collection about Bali's history (mostly its culture) and the place has peaceful and serene atmosphere which is good for taking photos. While the staff is helpful and informative, it would be much better if they wear uniform instead of tshirt and sandals. The parking space is also adequate but there is not clear sign on where to enter the parking spot and the museum, so you may miss and passed the place

Beautiful event space. Unfortunately the QR codes didn’t have English translation so we didn’t get as much out of the experience. Still if you have some extra time during a long stay it is worth the visit

The museum is ok in itself. Be politely firm in rejecting the guides, who speak broken English and barely tells you any additional information to what's already written in the place. If you feel you really need a guide, still pretend to not need one and they'll drop their price soon enough.

Balinese historical treasures on display at beautiful grounds. The museum would be great if the information on the items on display were improved (better curation). Now it is a bit of a potpourri of artifacts without a clear storyline. Entrance fee for tourists has been raised to 50k. Beware of con men offering guide services.

Nice museum with a lot of very interesting artifacts, especially all the kris blades. The grounds are just beautiful and great to take a few photos. Reasonable price to get in as well. We were the only ones there when we arrived and the guide offered his services and we politely said no and that was it. A few people tried to sell stuff but it wasn't anything exciting and they didn't push. After reading the other reviews I wonder if they have been given a directive to not harass tourists. Little food stands out front were cheap and we ate some yum satay sticks in the lovely park across the road after our visit. My only criticism is that although most of the artifacts were labelled with what they are, there wasn't much information of time period or what they were used for etc. I guess the guide could've told us, but we prefer to explore at our own pace and feel uncomfortable with guides. Overall it was great to see some of the rich and proud history of Bali. Even though Bali is small, all the kingdoms have different customs and traditions. Also, now I know why they sell all those wooden "male members" around Bali (fertility symbols).

Worth a visit. There are a whole bunch of "tour guides" out front that seem to have some kind of deal with the place and want to take you on a tour - complete with vendors every step of the way, but it's still interesting. There are definitely some cultural artifacts worth seeing. The guide we had was an asset in the end as there isn't much info provided with the exhibits. The architecture alone is worth the visit.

A wonderful place that gave us an extended understanding of Balinese history and it's place as a part of Indonesia. It's a pity about the hawkers that hassle you while you're trying to appreciate it, to the point at we left early because we felt uncomfortable. Why can't they simply keep these people out?

The Bali Museum in Denpasar is different from the museums in Ubud tourist attractions. In this museum, you can see art collections with historical values from Balinese culture. The museum collection consists of ethnographic collections such as equipment used in prehistoric times, religious and traditional ceremonial equipment, the development of Balinese art and culture, from era to era. Of course, by looking at the museum's collections, you will be able to compare the forms of prehistoric and modern Balinese civilization.

The exhibits honestly aren't great, but the architecture is wow. Great place to take photos but you'll only spend 1hr at max. I do not recommend visiting unless you are interested in Balinese culture and architecture. It's very quiet and the touts are hungry for business, so just tell them politely no. There aren't many exhibits, and the English translations are a bit whack. You still can learn a fair but but don't expect anywhere near European museum standards of curation or display. It's genuinely a good place to take photos of architecture and of yourself, without the usual Bali crowds. So if you like that, it's worth the 50k entrance fee. The food stores outside are excellent and fantastically cheap (also local and not tourist trap quality). Do get a bite there before you head somewhere else.

Good cultural and historical information on Bali. Our Guide Made was friendly attentive and knowledgeable Improvements would be better lighting on all displays and the installation of some fans to get the air moving as it is very hot and stuffy inside the buildings Apart from that it was definitely worth doing if you want to know more about the history and true culture of Bali

Beautiful grounds at this museum. The buildings were amazing and our tour guide was super informative and friendly. Would be good for the tour guide or front desk to inform us about the tour guide fee before starting as he only mumbled it to us in the middle of our tour. Overall though great experience. The park across the road was a nice stroll too

It was scenically beautiful with Balinese ornaments everywhere. The museum itself is a masterpiece. But, it was so small for a museum and too expensive for provincial-owned museum. I visited as local and it costed me IDR25K which is pretty overpriced. In other areas of Indonesia the most expensive provincial-owned cultural heritage sites only costs you no more than IDR15K. So it's not worthy to visit this museum. If you were hungry, there were plenty street-food vendors outside of the museum and it is located next to a field which I don't know what it was called.

(Translated by Google) Museum, like a museum) Four house-halls, three of which are historical house-palaces in which the king lived. The courtyards are pretty, different doors are carved and the gates are beautiful. The exposition does not say that it is rich, but classical for the historical museum. All kinds of dishes, figurines, figurines, shells, coins, digging sticks. For those interested, you can go! Entrance 50,000 per person. And yes, as many write, your grandfather “guide” will try to get attached to you. He will try to explain what all this stuff is. We came across a good grandfather, answered all questions, explained, fotkal us. True, he also persuaded to buy some papyrus from his friend for 500,000. True, then this friend ran after us and persuaded to take these things for 100,000, purely for gasoline. If you need papyrus, feel free to drop to hundreds, or even less. Then the grandfather took us to the temple. Where they gave us sarongs. And after we put them on, they asked for 50,000 for them. For each, more precisely, that is 100,000) We ourselves wanted to thank the grandfather, the guide, as he told a lot of things, and drove us more than an hour. But he himself did not hesitate to request 200,000 at the end :) they gave less, he was still satisfied) In a sense, a raiser on a raiser, but fun) (Original)

Came here during the pandemic, just after Christmas. We were literally the only guests there. There was an old man who serves as a volunteer tour guide on tips only. His English is good enough, though you have to listen carefully. He shares a lot of information you can't get from the placards, especially about Balian religion. He enthusiastically took a bunch of photos of us getting all the scenery in the frames. One of the best experiences I've had in Bali.

Liked it and been here 3 or 4 time and still love to visit. Entrance fee for local I think around 15.000 rupiah and foreigners 30.000 rupiah. Beautiful place and garden, amazing compound and the collections are really amazing from old past years and well maintained but they just need to put cctv or staff inside of the museum to help the visitors if they need help or to take care the collections from bad risk from visitors, and also they need to improve about the cleaning, the windows and floor need more maintenance and scrub the windows from the dust. Overall good place to visit in Denpasar. Because I love this place my wife and I decided to take our Balinese pra wedding pictures here and you can see it from my pics here ❤️❤️

It was really nice to go to this museum. I understand the history of Bali since history. However, I had to be aware that there was a person who went around to explain the museum exhibition, but at first he said he didn't need money, he was a volunteer. However, the man told me to give me money at the end. There are people like this, so be careful,

Not a big place. Guides offer to walk you around and described what you see Infront of you. This museum shows history of the people of Bali and then the grizzly story of Dutch invasion. And the explanation of the difference of their Hindu religion and mainland India. Also on display ase other deities and weapons and who used them. Personally I liked the bathing room . Now a pond.

It’s a good museum and supposedly a cheap entrance fee. However, at the end of the tour, the guide charge us 200,000 IDR (for 2 adults and 1 kid). Its a scam, beware. I think even the museum management knows it because the guide was there already when we are paying for the entrance fee. We were not warned. If we only knew there is a payment for the guide, we should have opted it out and just roam around by ourselves.

Great exposure to the culture of Bali. Afterall, the island has had a unique history within the archipelago. The museum showcases this special island's relationship with Java and the many "visitors" who arrived here throughout the ages. Get an indepth view of the history of Balinese Kris, tools, clothes, and artworks. A must visit location in Denpasar.

Among the museums I have visited, this is at the bottom of my list due to several reasons. (1) The descriptions of the artifacts are not precisely written, so if you don’t have a guide, you might not know what they are for. (2) The guide is said to be free, only giving tips will be fine. But after I am done with the tour, the guide requested IDR 50,000 per person. This is my first time seeing the guide’s payment calculated by per person; most of the time, it was calculated by per guide, but not per person. So, I would rather use this money to go to the waterfalls, hiking, or shopping. Entrance ticket = IDR 50,000/person

Maybe the museum could do more to make the experience good for visitors. We went interested to learn more about Balinese culture but we were disappointed. The information was minimal for exhibits e.g. no dates or explanations. The QR scan signs didn't work either. It was very hot and the only room that was comfortable was the air conditioned archeology section. I learned more from reading my guidebook before going. Maybe there's a vicious circle of low visitor numbers so lack of maintenance and development. A shop might also generate some revenues if done well. The buildings and gardens are beautiful and we certainly didn't regret going. Don't miss seeing it but be prepared for the heat.

I get it- guides need money and all. I know you'll charge and I allow one to "guide" me through out of pity. But holy cow learn a bit about what you gonna talk about. The guide straight up know nothing about majapahit and numimastic charms. This is an issue exclusive to foreigners, I f ing speak bahasa and somehow he still manage to speak in broken grammar. Word of wisdom, if you cant get one of these gawkers off your back, PAY NO MORE THAN 10 K. Just let them finish off quickly, pay 10 k and nothing else, and do a retour by yourself.

Tiket masuk sangat murah, #MuseumBali

(Translated by Google) Interesting architecture, but for the layman inside there is nothing to look at. A very boring exposition of ancient antiquities. They are probably very valuable and bring light to the world, but I enjoyed it more when I climbed one of the turrets. Therefore, there are no pictures for recall. At the entrance, after the ticket office, an old forest man is nailed to you, who begins to broadcast about the history of the former royal residence. You can send it, but you can listen. It broadcasts interestingly, but at the end asks for a lot of money, does not hesitate.

It was worth the visit for me as I had to be nearby to deal with my visa but the whole museum could use some love. If I were here longer I'd even volunteer to put up more info about the various artifacts like approx dates!! I listened to a guide talk with a couple and he didn't seem to provide the historical detail that I would want so I was glad I didn't pay for that. I'm a history buff though so like details.

Get to know all of Bali; east, west, north, and south. Plenty of historical artifacts and ancient pieces to learn about. A mix of outdoor and indoor viewing, there's plenty to stimulate the mind if you're a history buff. Be wary of the tour guides as they will charge a fee at the end of the tour, they make no mention of this at the start of the guided tour. And the guided tour is not cheap either, so take your time and browse on your own to save some money...

I had a wonderful time visiting this museum and gardens complex in the heart of Denpasar. A limited but insightful education about local Balinese culture, and beautiful gardens in several adjoining courtyards. I had the luxury of being the only visitor, and my camera took advantage of the situation. I definitely recommend a visit if you need a break from the usual tourist spots, or happen to be in the city. (I found the gardens to worth the admission price on their own).

Watch out the people posing as a "guide". I regret seeing the reviews only after my visit to the museum. The museum itself has great exhibtions and beautiful balinese traditional architectures, which I would've enjoyed and appreciated a lot better if it wasn't for the pseudo guide scamming people. Soon as we paid our entrance fee some guy followed us and naturally I thought he was working for the museum so we went on with his guidance. We wanted to browse the place on our own but didn't want to be rude. He asked for 300K at the end, and I was shocked and felt we were scammed. I blame the museum's poor management for this. Even the staff didn't care when they saw the guy took us. They could've hired official guides and let the visitors decide whether they want a guided tour or not. Also, they could probably open a proper souvenir shop inside the musem so the locals can sell their arts and crafts legitimately instead of having to hassle the visitors by following them.

Place Nr. 1 when you visit Bali to get to know a great basic understanding of balinese culture, history and religion. I was more than happy to say yes to a private tour guide who kindly welcomed me on the entrance but was not an employee of the museum. Without him I would just have seen some antique weapons and drawings of gods and demons but with him I understood the meaning behind it very well. He has no website or instagram, just his WhatsApp. If he agrees I will add it here.

Interesting museum, definately worth seeing to understand a bit more about balinese culture. The museum is not as big as one expects, however it has some incredible pieces in its walls. The coin exhibits highlight early Balinese trading culture (featuring coins from areas as far away as Vietnam and Korea) and the exhibits in this section are very interesting. We had to say no several times to the "tour guides". I'd recommend saying no to anyone who offers a tour, you don't need a guide as the exhibits have detailed explanations.

Worth visiting if you’d like to learn about the local history. Ticket costs 50k per person, and 200k for guide which I thought is free because they didn’t tell me in the beginning. Better ask about the price before the touring, maybe negotiable. Very few people there so I can enjoy the tour without any interruptions.

  • 4/5 Riley M. 10 months ago on Google
This is a nice little museum in the centre of Denpasar, entry price is only 50k IDR, also know that as soon as you buy this ticket and walk away a guide will approach to sell you on a guided tour for 150k IDR but they are not persistent if you say no overall worth seeing.

Very small museum. Takes less than 20 minutes to see everything. Online it says tickets are 50k per person but they charged me 100k. There are fake “tour guides” who pretend to work there and show you around and later ask for ridiculous amount of money. Didn’t even ask for a guide, he invited himself. I can’t believe this kind of scams are allowed to happen inside a government building! Be very careful when you go there.
