Britt was our server, she was spot on. Fast with taking order and beverages. Food was phenomenal!! Tots were hot and homemade, onion rings were hot and crispy with crunch. We had sandwiches, and wings. Hot and awesome tasting. Service is spot on!! Can't miss on bloody marys either. We'll be back for great service and amazing food.

4.5/5 - This place is super sick. This place was featured by Guy Fieri for sandwiches and tater tots. I’m partial to great sandwiches, and they have amazing Ruben and pastrami sandwich options that justifys the press. In addition, these tater tots are some of the best ever I’m not going to lie. Unfortunately, I didn’t get many pictures during my visit here. I’ll make sure to grab more when I visit again.

Highland Tavern is awesome! Came here for brunch from a coworkers recommendation. The bombshell is so good. It is effectively a breakfast reuben sandwich with housemate pastrami. Probably my favorite Reuben in Denver! The house made tater tots were so good! Strongly recommend!

We popped in here to grab some lunch. We ordered several different sandwiches and the service and food was good. They do have a game room with a pool table and several pinball machines. Such a good place to go and have fun.

Happened to come across this place while searching for somewhere to eat that wasn’t pizza or too fancy. We happened to walk in during Thursday night football so it was PACKED (duh). Luckily there was a seat at the end of the bar and a nice dude who was about to leave and let us know we could take his chair. I was able to get a vegetarian friendly burger, the Masa Verde. It was pretty good and fried were perfect. My carnivore husband had the Dr Pepper ribs and the turkey sandwich (I think). He didn’t seem to have any complaints about his food and ate everything. There were 2 bartenders, the one who was serving us just seemed like maybe he was having a bad day, something just seemed off. At the end the other bartender came to check on us, he was chill. We ordered 2 rounds of drinks, bourbon on the rocks and draft beer, nothing complicated. Yes it’s loud, it’s a tavern, people watch sports. I wasn’t personally bothered by this because I knew what I was getting myself into.

Oh my goodness... The food is excellent, service is hospitable and friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. Be sure to bring proof of vaccination when you go out you will be turned away. I've found a new favorite place!

Ruben, Pastrami dip and tots were delicious. We ordered the pork rinds as an appetizer and they were also very good. We went for lunch and were the only people there. They have outside dining in a nice little area. Staff was not friendly- server or bartender. We'd eat there again.

Good meal in a fun chill place. The tots were great. Good burger. The place is deceptive from the outside, cool from the inside.

Wanted to visit this place ever since seeing it on Diner’s, Drive-ins, and Dives several years ago. It’s not just a quick trip from East TN to Denver, but we finally made it!! Mike was tending bar but seated and took care of us expertly, clearly knowing the menu very well. We settled on the Tavern Tots (made from scratch), The Bombshell, an in house 15-day brined pastrami, Swiss, brown mustard, slaw and a fried egg on toasted rye bread, and lastly the Dr Pepper BBQ Pork Ribs. Great locally owned neighborhood place!! I’d call it a must do in Denver!!!

The tater tots were amazing little fried squares of deliciousness with a tender potato cake inside. Also had the green chili burger which was cooked perfectly and had amazing toppings. Staff was really nice. Atmosphere was groovy and laid back. Check it out

They were out of the Comrade beer I wanted - ofc I was able to get something else suitable. We were here because my friend had seen a pastrami sandwich featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. While sandwich was good, it wasn't knock-your-socks-off good. I ordered Korean Short Ribs. They initially said they were out of them, and I was ready to give up, with them being out of my desired beer, then my chosen food item - but they had one more order, so I got them and they were good, I ate them all.

    O. M. G.!! That's how happy I am with this place! We were in the Denver metro area for the early part of the day, and thought we'd try a restaurant from those covered on Triple D. We chose Highland Tavern and... OMG! For appetizers we tried both the homemade Tots and the Pork Rinds! They were both delicious! Then we split a bowl of Pork Neck Green Chili Stew. Again, OMG!! Best green chili I've ever had. On to our entrees... My husband had the Tavern Dip (pastrami instead of roast beef). An excellent choice. OMG. Best pastrami ever with great cheese, stone ground mustard and au jus! I had the El Guapo burger with hatch green chilis. OMG! This was, by far, the best tasting beef I've had. I do med. rare and they nailed it! Did I mention the beers? They have a healthy list of beer choices. I had a great Juicy IPA and my hubby had an awesome Brown Ale. Both local beers. Our choices were all vetted by our wonderful server, Kelly! She obviously loves her place of employment and their offerings! They are located in a close-in Denver neighborhood. When somebody says "neighborhood bar" this is what they meant! Even the bathroom was cool 😎 I think we'll be making the drive from Fort Collins to the Highland Tavern in the future. Multiple times!

Highland Tavern is a hidden gem for an area always looking at the next best thing. Hearty pours, good food, friendly staff, no frills, and no nonsense. Do yourself a favor and have a burger, slap some in house cured pastrami on that beast and feast! I’d add more to this review, but just like Highland Tavern keeping it simple does the trick!!

Thank you DDD for helping us find our favorite place to eat and drink in Denver. So many places to choose from. Glad we took the time to enjoy this great food place and all the Feel like home service they provide. Hopefully you will meet Andy and let him know how much you love his place. "10"

Not too bad the place and food. But my pastrami sandwich could hv been better if they had used English mustard maybe!? The yellow mustard was way too much it made the whole sarny way too sour.

Stopped here because we saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I ate the Cubano with tavern fried. The food was excellent, we liked our table because it was by an open area. I will mention they charge a 5% livable wage fee, on top of your food cost. Mentioning so people are aware.

I was so excited to mark another local tavern/bar off the list in town. One with such high ratings and decent looking photos, I expected to be so much more than the disappointment it ended up being. Let me start by saying that while my waitress was nice as pie, she wasn’t very intuitive to the fact that I didn’t even eat a bite out of 2/4 items I ordered and the other two I’d had a few bites of. She happily charged me for everything without even asking if there was an issue. So at the end of my meal I waited around for her to come back, I guess she thought I wanted change. I then told her about my eggs being overcooked and me making a sandwich with the toast and eggs, hence no toast being eaten. As for the items I did eat some of: the biscuits and gravy came with three biscuits and the smallest amount of gravy(which was more of a glaze viscosity wise) was not nearly enough for the size and dryness of the biscuit. I must have chosen wrong one of the three when I picked the middle one, it tasted like it was from last week. By the time I got half way thru the biscuit. I just got too icked out. I did however poke the other two biscuits and they seemed fresh as can be. The last item I ordered was the Johnny cakes. The griddled cake itself was wonderful but that syrup just ruined it. Way too bourbon forward, I didn’t need a shot on my cakes, I just wanted something sweet and moisturizing. I’m sure being a bar first and foremost, that sort of thing wouldn’t bother most people. Just my opinion, and having had 4/5 bourbon syrups before, this by far has been my least favorite. Well as I sit here thinking about the 34.00$ I just spent, on the breakfast I didn’t eat…I have to digress. I’m still hungry and need food. I don’t think I would return again.

Excellent experience. We are from out of town and read the reviews and decided to try it. Food was awesome beer was good and the service was on point. We tried the house hot sauces and they were phenomenal so we decided to buy some. The owner came brian up to us personally and gave us the sauce we wanted and gifted us a second one just because. He was very kind and so so welcoming and he didn't have to give us another bottle but he did. I've never felt so welcomed at a bar in my life. When we visit again we will definitely be coming here again. Such a cool spot.

I have only had to-go food from here, and everything has been delicious. I hear they smoke all their own meat. The tots might be my favorite item so far. I can't wait to have a sit down as it sounds like service and experience here are excellent
