The spot and the ambiance are amazing and the staff was super friendly. The only reason that I am giving this place four stars and not five was due to the wait time and the somewhat hit or miss taste of the food. We were told there was an hour wait when we arrived at 10:30 and we were eventually seated around noon. Not too big of a deal - I know everyone is short staffed recently. The food was good - the pancakes were incredible, the bacon was a little lackluster, the poached eggs were cooked perfectly, but the underneath sweet potatoes were decent - good not great. It's a place that I would definitely recommend but maybe not if the wait is long.

What a find! Came in for brunch, a few minutes before they closed, but was met with friendly faces. The menu is good, a bit on the spicy side but so worth it! I had the shrimp and grits and the beignets... Finished up with a lavender latte. Cannot recommend these high enough. Our waitress was good and there but a little aloof. Very well decorated! Even though the bathroom seemed in disarray, one stall didn't work, the rest of it was like a fantasy place! Summer garden is available for the cooler evenings and days. Thumbs up!!!

Love this place for brunch! We always get the fried green tomatoes because they do them so well. It’s always very difficult to make a decision because everything on the menu sounds and is delicious. We love getting the four flights of mimosas and bloody Mary’s.

Went in for brunch on a Wednesday afternoon. We sat right away, customer service was timely and polite. I got the breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon and sausage gravy. I thought the portions of the food could have been more generous given the price. My partner got the bison hash with deep fried eggs. It was well composed but undersalted. Overall, I felt the experience was positive and ambience very pretty. Would recommend.

4.5/5 Great brunch spot and very well known throughout Denver. It's a great southern - esque food spot that seems to specialize in brunch to me. Everything was super delicious that we had here. I'm very excited to come back and try more options but you really can't go wrong. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the price. It was over $50/person which is really hard to justify for me. We did get drinks with the food, but man, $50/person gets you a really nice dinner. This is brunch. I'll still be back though - it was that good. Might just avoid getting drinks next time (even though the bloody Marys were super awesome).

A unique and cute brunch spot! I am from out of town and had exceptional service at most of the spots in Denver and found the service here to be just so/so. I had the crab cake eggs Benedict which I cannot recommend enough! However others at my table didn’t enjoy the waffles and gravy that they offered. One person did highly recommend the sweet potato grits. Overall a solid brunch.

Solid establishment! If you’re looking for standard American eatery, this might not be your place. These guys put their own spin on everything so if you don’t like different flavor profiles, this might not be for you. That being said, I love this place. We had a short wait to get seated, and took a little bit to get our waters and place an order, but nothing too crazy. Food wise, I’ve had a few different things from here and as I said, they put their own spin on things. I tried the southern sunrise sandwich. I thought it was real good just as is. The bbq sauce has a great flavor that pairs really nice with the green chili gravy. My buddy had the biscuits and gravy and was expecting your standard flavors… but like I said, they have their own spin on it. He said they were ok but not what he was expecting. We also had the fried pickles and deviled eggs. The pickles taste like the sweet pickles, so be warned, they aren’t dill lol they are good with the sauce though! The deviled eggs are fantastic and probably my favorite part of the meal. They hit the spot. Again, different, but fantastic!

Place is a vibe, old house, but very clean, organized and fully decorated creating a cool atmosphere. On top of that, great service, delicious food and a top notch homemade lemonade! 100% recommended!

This place was great! Outside there is a beautiful rose garden that smells lovely. Our waiter was fantastic. I ordered the Southern Sunrise Sandwich and it was delicious. The pork was seasoned nicely. We also had the beignets with a fruit jam that were great. Would recommend.

Incredible food in a beautiful historic venue! My wife and I had brunch with a couple of friends and though the wait was about 30ish minutes, the food was worth it. My wife got the breakfast po' boy, I got the salmon benedict, and we all shared beignets and the banana nut bread. Everything was incredible! Service was a bit slow, but I chalk that up to the large number of customers, clearly the staff was working hard and our waiter was very friendly. We would definitely come here again and we recommend stopping by for brunch!

Definitely worth the drive....we ventured to the highlands just for brunch....then found a cute farmers market....but back to brunch...it was delicious! We got the breakfast Po' Boy and pigs in a blanket...so good! The pigs in a blanket it an evaluated grown up version of a fun kid food and the breakfast Po' Boy came on a toasted roll with a side of duck fat sausage gravy. Oh lawd was it so so good! The decor was so cute from the unique hand rolled silverware in different printed fabric to the cozy patio. The service was great! Such a fun yummy place...we will definateky be back! The restroom was also sublimely decorated and superbly clean!

Sassafras is a great spot for brunch. I highly recommend the breakfast mac and cheese. Add some chopped up andouille sausage to finish it right.

Excellent little spot with southern dishes. I had the shrimp and grits and it had a spicy flare to it, very good. It was my moms birthday and they treated us to some beignets and they were an excellent treat as well.

Wow this is my favorite brunch spot I’ve had in Denver. Everything was so flavorful! The place looks like an old time Victorian house and it’s beautiful. The service was a big slow for my liking. The food though, five stars. Everything was flavorful and did not need any extra salt or pepper. We both got a dish that had fried chicken on it and to be honest by the looks of it they looked like they were burnt because they were a bit darker but they were juicy and not burnt at all. Had the chicken and waffles, the chicken fried steak, grits, and hot cocoa. When I tell you everything was delicious…I will return and I recommend to everyone. The collards are soo good and so is the jalapeño cornbread. The gravy is amazing too.

The food and service here are impeccable! Very kind happy host, amazing coffee and drinks & the food was bursting with flavor. We tried the breakfast pasta which was amazing and the smoked salmon benedict which was made with super fresh flavorful smoked salmon. Wish we had a Sassafras where we live!

Our first time at the Denver location, and Ofcourse we still love Sassafras! Our favorite brunch in Denver, if you haven’t stopped in, you MUST! Kind, helpful staff. Amazing dishes. Beautiful, delightful coffees. Their own house hot sauce. What more do you need? Get going!

I had a wonderful lunch here today. I was part of a small group from lots of places. The menu was varied enough to find something for all of us. I had the special, catfish tacos. Yummy! But when I go back I for sure will pick a Mac & cheese, it looked amazing. We were seated in a lovely garden. I especially liked the tables wete not crowded together.

A great choice for breakfast. The donut was so amazing as a starter. The pancake was nice. I have not tried the crabcake Benedict before, but it was really tasty. It gets really busy on Sunday so better to showup early or be willing to wait. Overall thumps up.

Really good food. As a Southern born guy the greens were fantastic. Had Chicken fried steak, and Deep South Benedict. I asked for the BBQ sauce on the side and glad I did as it wasn't my style of sauce. Everything was super tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Greg was out server. Great guy.

Such a wonderful spot for brunch with ample indoor and outdoor seating options. Location on 32nd St. in the Denver Highlands, there’s plenty of other shops and things to do around the area, making it a great place to spend the afternoon. I loved the outdoor atmosphere on the back patio, the iced lattes were delicious and the banana nut bread French toast blew me away. Would definitely recommend for those looking for “brunch” options in Denver on a weekday!

Had a delicious catfish Po Boy and collard greens this past weekend. Awesome list of house Bloody Marys with a variation for everyone, great NOLA/creole inspired food, and a beautiful Victorian home as a setting. The line gets pretty long around 11:30 so go on the early side.

Great breakfast/brunch place. It’s good but definitely not the best brunch place I have gone to. Customer service is good but not amazing took quite a bit for them to refill our water when it was empty.

We all were so impressed by the staff, atmosphere, service, meal and beverages. We really wish we could’ve ate there but had to get takeout because we were running late for an event. This place is fantastic and definitely hope to come back the next time we’re in town.

Amazing food, all of it. The Sassafras bloody was extremely good. Also the breakfast Mac and cheese was very good too.

The BEST bloody Mary's EVER!!! I had a flight of 4 and they were each unique and yummmmmmmy. Lots of flavor without being too spicy. The pickled okra was the best I've ever had. Our server was awesome and the food was out of this world (shrimp and grits for the win!).

Sassafras American Eatery now serves dinner Thursday through Sunday, and you won't be disappointed! We were welcomed by the owner (Michael) and well taken care of by several of the staff, who shared about their favorite dishes on the new dinner menu. We had the mushroom toast with the Sassafras-famous chicken fried egg which was delicious, and the fall-themed Sangria cocktails. They have an outdoor patio fit for multiple groups to enjoy a cocktail by the large fire pit while you wait for your table, and you will also be pleasantly surprised by the well-decorated and cozy interior (including the Halloween flair!). We will definitely be back thanks to Michael and the other staff at Sassafras who made us feel right at home!

I’ve never been disappointed here! Everything is delicious. I made a great decision with blackened chicken poboy! Amazing flavor. Thought the full serving of Mac and cheese was on the smaller side but still yummy. We even bought the hot sauce!! Great place!

Quaint little place with a New Orleans feel. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Mimosas were tasty and the crab cakes benedict were 10/10.
