One of my favorite restaurants in all of Colorado! I loved my experience. This is one of the oldest buildings in Denver. One can feel this lost era of old Colorado by eating in here. Everything is so clean, intentional, and purposeful. Also, the food was absolutely incredible. It was the first time we had bison steaks and Rocky Mountain oysters. The flavor and taste was only heightened by the aesthetic of the establishment. One owes it to themselves to check out this historical steakhouse, especially the second floor! Will come back again!

Visiting Denver and I wanted to try one of the oldest restaurants in town so we stopped by the Buckhorn Exchange. The ambience really takes you back to the western era. A lot of historic memorabilia to look at while you wait for your food. My group had ordered the Rocky Mountain oysters, grilled duck breast, fried alligator tails, New York strip steak and the Colorado lamb chops. My favorite was the grilled duck breast which was a soft and tender duck breast served with a sweet raspberry sauce. Very delicious and the sweet sauce helped carry the flavor. The only dish I was unimpressed by was the lamb chops. The seasonings they used didn’t really pair well with me. I don’t know if maybe it wasn’t seasoned well but I know it was lacking in flavor. I really did like the place and service though.

Walked in and was greeted with friendly staff. We were early for our reservation so we sat at the bar and had some Breckinridge Brews as seen in my photos. There is a nice environment and a bunch of taxidermy animals on the walls as well has some snippets of history. Once we sat at our table we ordered appetizers, main course, and dessert. (Sorry no picture of the cheesecake). See my photos for a description of each food item. My personal favorite was the duck and quail. If you are looking for a nice place to try a bunch of different meats then this is the place to go. Highly Recommend.

In town in business from KY. This was the number one place I wanted to come to. Staff was excellent. Rocky Mountain Oysters we're cooked perfectly. My only complaint was the horseradish cream sauce want spicy enough. I had the buffalo prime rib. It was delicious. My husband had elk and bison and said both were great. Thank you for a wonderful meal and memory.

Definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. I really enjoyed the Rocky Mountains oysters. The taste is very similar to that of calamari that was fried. Not as chewy or fishy. I also have the elk quail combination plate and that was extremely delicious. The elk was a little earthy taste but reminded me of a sirloin. The quail in my opinion is how chicken should taste. It was extremely delicious I had garlic mashed potatoes to go along with it. I also had a Caesar salad with anchovies. I always enjoy a good dining experience and this place was more than able to provide.

This place is one of the most iconic restaurants in Denver. I believe, if I remember correctly, it is the oldest restaurant in Denver. It is a great place to try rocky mountain oysters. They also have other exotic meats, like elk and bison. When I went, it was pretty good, but my bison was a little dry. The rocky mountain oysters were interesting and I'll leave it at that 😆 There are a bunch of different wild animals mounted on the wall, which is pretty cool. The place is kind of fancy and pricey. So that's something to keep in mind. Overall, this place is very old and iconic and a good place to try rocky mountain oysters and other exotic meats that are prevalent in Denver.

We came here with no reservation. It was fine since we only did appetizers. It’s a historical landmark so we wanted to stop by here to experience it. We ordered peaches and cream bottled soda, Rocky Mountain oysters (bull testicles), and fried gator tail. I liked the soda, definitely never that flavor before. Rocky Mountain oysters were good with cocktail sauce. It does have a unique taste and I would order it again. The fried gator tail was ok, it lacked any seasoning. For the price, it could have been marinated in something to give it that extra “wow” factor. I wanted to try the rattlesnake but not for $39. Service was good. Staff was friendly. I recommend a one time only if you’re in the area.

Great place to see when you're in denver. I got the Rocky Mountain Oysters, for bull testicles they tasted pretty good. Also got Buffalo and Elk. It was amazing. Great tasting meats. Full with flavor. Also, the apple pie was delicious. We chose to sit upstairs, and I found that to be a better area to sit at.

I tried the elk and buffalo special. The elk was good, the buffalo was overcooked and was on the hard side. Atmosphere is great with so much history around. I paid 70 bucks for an 8oz steak total which i think is pretty high. Overall, it was a great experience and would recommend the place if the prices are not an issue.

The eye candy is everywhere. The meat candy is brought to your table to feast on while your eyes feast on all the historical stuff there is to see there. We got the Blackened Buffalo Prime Rib and it was so tender we could cut it with a fork. Really top notch. Our waitress Stephanie was absolutely amazing. Great tableside manner and a real delight to visit with. Great service. Great food. Great fun.

There aren't many places you can eat elk and Buffalo while looking at Teddy Roosevelt's original rough rider flag or Wild Bill's signature. I'm so glad we were able to experience this one-of-a-kind resteraunt! The food was delicious, the service was attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere was pure Colorado. Don't miss the chance to eat at this historic restaurant.

This a most historic restaurant in Denver! There a lot of animals specimens around, which were hunted by themselves. The types of meat are various! We tasted two sets of combinations. The buffalo is the most delicious for me. The Rocky Mountain oyster is special and tasty that I highly recommend to order! The vibe is pretty great here. This is a fantastic restaurant for the tourists. The service is also very nice.

Incredible food, interesting atmosphere, fascinating history. Such a unique dining experience and an incredibly varied menu. It's hard to choose between getting what you know you love and trying something new because everything is so great. You could spend hours just walking through and looking at the walls. Try the rocky mountain oysters - you'll be surprised how good they are! The service was top notch. Can't wait to come back again.

Excellent food and an awesome atmosphere! Came in town for work, was told to check this place out. Did not disappoint! The food was fantastic, had the Rocky Mountain Oysters and the 24oz Porterhouse. Our server was really great too, super friendly and helpful. Loved the leather arm chairs at the table. Would highly recommend and will definitely return if I'm ever back in Denver!

Had to tick this one Off the bucket list.. great atmosphere, good experience as the restaurant is almost 130yrs old. Our sever was warm, welcoming friendly and funny. Although not sure sure about the food, May be our expectations were too high having see all the hype. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. Lots of different meat options if you are a meat eater. Everything was decent but nothing extraordinary. Elk 🧐(not in photos) was interesting.

Recommended by a local tour guide, I can see why, this place is inviting & the wait staff friendly& attentive, sharing stories & information on the restaurants history. I had the Buffalo (blackened & my favourite) & Elk combo, coffee was excellent too. Easy to get to from Union Station. Great last night in Denver.

Go here for the atmosphere. But even though the variety of meats is interesting, the execution was flawed. Had a family birthday dinner for our father (turned 70) and was happy to receive a setting in the Buffalo room. Our service was sharp tongued even though our party was pleasant. The steaks and game fowl arrives on time, yet the sides were cold and the meat was incorrectly cooked. 2 beef tenderloins were received under and over cooked but neither to the others' requested level. The New york strip was requested medium rare and arrived well done. One of our party ordered chicken. It came out so dry, it was not edible. And on of the steaks came out so rare it had to be sent back. (It had been requested as medium well.) Each time the server was asked a question about gluten-free options. He ran off flustered and returned with little to no information. Sadly, this $500+ dinner for 5 was an experience that was requested by the birthday boy (70), but I would not recommend this place to anyone wanting a fine dinner. The food prep/cook just isn't up to the task.

This was my first time at The Buckhorn Exchange...I knew of it but had never stopped in previous trips to Denver. The decor is awesome and I would certainly call it unique compared to any other restaurant I have been to. The servers are exceptional, helpful and extremely knowledgeable of the menu and history of the establishment. I had the elk and ostrich combo and both proteins were excellent. The bean soup is simple but delicious and memorable. If you have thought about checking this place out...stop thinking about it and go 🙂

Had a reservation, checked in, they said the tables were really backed up and slow so I chose to sit at the bar upstairs. Started off with a bottle of Odell 90 Shilling Ale. Then had a half order of Rocky Mountain Oysters. This was the first time trying it, I would say it was like a firmer calamari. Tasted good but trying it once in my life is enough but the creamy horseradish that came with it was amazing. Then I ordered the Bison and Elk plate. It came with both meats, mashed potatoes and green beans. The cuts of meat were maybe 6 oz or less of each. The Bison was tougher meat, cooked at medium rare and fairly pink, it is still very lean cut of meat. The Elk was not as lean. Both were solid. The mashed potatoes were really good and my favorite. Overall solid food and a place that embodies Denver’s history.

Fun atmosphere and great staff. Slight improvements could be made salad dressing was amazing but the wet salad watered down the taste. The Rocky Mountain oysters are the best I have ever had. The elk steak was very good but the buffalo…too much tenderizer and a taste that I cannot put my finger on. I typically love buffalo. The quail was okay…not how grandma fixed it- and all the beef steak around us looked great. Awesome place to experience and wandering was encouraged… make a reservation and request downstairs for older folks …

This is an amazing place. If you go just for the history, you will be blown away. It's such an awesome relief when the food is just as amazing as the history. We had some rocky mountain oysters, Buffalo lentil soup and the Buffalo prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. Every bite was better than the previous one. Top it off with amazing cocktails, gotta try the Buckhorn old fashioned! Do not miss this place if you are anywhere near by!!!
