Sushi is very dependent on both the quality of the fish and the expertise of the chef. It is surprising to many people that landlocked Denver has extremely high-quality seafood. You see, there's this thing called airplanes that evens the playing field with coastal locations. Denver has some of the top seafood wholesalers in the country with contacts all over the world plus an airport with many international connections. Super fresh fish flies in every morning. So, despite Denver's location, restaurants have no problem obtaining top quality product. That leaves the chef as the main variable to finding good sushi in Denver. I've been going to Izu since they opened eight years ago. They are just a few blocks from my home. The quality has always been up and down--mostly good, sometimes fair, and, occasionally, not so great. My latest visit was a revelation. I brought a friend who is very, very picky and has extensive experience with ultra high-end sushi. We both agreed that this was one of the best sushi dinners we had ever experienced. Every item was super fresh, flawlessly prepared, and presented with elegance and visual flair. We polished off every speck, down to the last grain of rice and fish roe. We're still talking about the experience several days later. We started with the Hakutsuru Junmai Dai Ginjo. This was a truly excellent sake. Very subtle, but extremely flavorful. The waiter then surprised us with an amuse bouche. This was a beautifully presented large plate with some coils of tuna in a vinaigrette-style sauce, accompanied by a shrimp, an edible flower, and some shaved bits of various vegetables. A great start to the meal. A gorgeous platter then arrived with our Hawaii Dragon roll, Toro, White Tuna, Mackerel, and Uni, accompanied by various sauces. The Eel arrived a few minutes later, in a large spoon-shaped dish. Again, everything was beautiful to look at and tasted even better. I'd like to see the head chef's resume. I hope Izu can hang onto him. We'll be back soon.

For sushi-lovers this newly open sushi restaurant is your next stop on Colfax. The sushi rolls and sashimi are very well prepared and served delightfully. The fish is fresh, the rice is perfectly cooked and the sauce well blended. Unexpectedly the tender Madai is even served here. Not only sushi Ramen may also become your favorite order.

Just tried this for the first time. I will never order again. I got three items. I ordered a Manhattan roll. It was supposed to have tuna and salmon in it, but only contained imitation crab. I got the mussels that were rancid and inedible. They were drenched in siracha so much it burned my eyes, probably to cover the rot. I got the wontons. They too were inedible. Hard and stale, most of them had no filling and the few that had anything had rock hard crumbs of old cheese. I threw everything. Waste of time and money. They serve rotten garbage. No no no!

A quaint restaurant but with big flavors. They've got an open sushi bar and seating in the dinning area. The sushi here is really great. I've gotten 4 roles from here and each of them have been so delicious, no disappointments. Sake bombs and cocktails are always a must. You've got to park on the street if you are dinning in but parking and walking is well worth it.

I can’t believe I found this place two months before I moving out of the area!! I absolutely love the staff here and the sushi, chef, and the designs of the sushi! They really take pride in making sushi and creating the sushi platters! The first time we went, was on New Year’s Day, and they gave us a discount for being the first customers of the year. They always remember me are always so kind and this is a very special place in my book..

Fantastic! We had a big family feast at Izu inside the restaurant and we loved every dish. It was a little weird that the waiter brought our dishes to a table near us where there was a restaurant reviewer for him to take pictures before he brought them to our table but that's OK. Fish was fresh and the wasabi was real! Delicious!!!

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The best sushi place we have found in Denver. You definitely won’t be disappointed. Service is also great

Clean and hospitable. Non intrusive help, great selection. Food prepared as we waited, reasonable length of time. Delicious all! There were five of us and we were all satisfied, about $60. Fair price! Two for one saki.

Really gave this place the benefit of the doubt, but with several items unavailable from the menu, subpar food, dirty glasses, and a staff that doesn’t seem concerned with these shortcomings, definitely won’t be back here. Crab rangoons had no filling, shrimp shumai was too fishy, the sashimi was just bad (too thick and low quality fish), everything was just disappointing. Couldn’t even finish our food by the end out of concern of getting sick. Still, not a great experience

We were looking for a sushi place near the Central Park area and found this casual sushi restaurant. The food was quite good:l. The service was marginal. They aren’t very attentive. Did not even ask if we wanted another round of drinks and brought the check before when we planned on ordering more. They aren’t very friendly BUT the sushi was good.

Very disappointed, my friend and I wanted to go somewhere fancy and eat. We chose here, bad choice. We came in, we were seated, in the location where there was nothing but flies. We decided to move, after that the staff seemed to be upset with us. We ordered two different drinks which were the highlight of the entire experience. Food was mid, except for the Rangoons which we ordered as an appetizer, and received last those were overly burnt. It took way too long for us to be the only ones in the restaurant and for us to get our food. A couple who came after us, got their food faster than us. Won’t be back.

This place was just ok. The non-fish items were good but the raw fish was subpar. Both my friend and I are visiting from LA so maybe the sushi in Denver isn’t as fresh as coastal cities?? There were a few highlights though. Salmon (0/5) - not fatty or fresh. Super disappointing Tamago (egg) (5/5) - you can’t go wrong with tamago Ikura (the nemo eggs) (5/5) - surprisingly tasty Unagi (4/5) - it was good Toro (3/5) - not fresh at all Vegetable Gyoza (1/5) - no taste, very bland Maybe you’re better off ordering rolls and not nigiri...

The delivery was very quick. I ordered only for seven minutes and the delivery was here. The fish is really fresh and the Hawaii Dragon roll was my favorite. Even though it is $15 for the Hawaii Dragon roll, it was worth the price. They gave a lot of of fish and botany meat.

Went here for last night and couldn't be more impressed. I love sushi, but I dont like the fish part, so vegan sushi has been on my radar for awhile. This place does not disappoint. I tried the hot flamingo with a homemade crab mix and delicious tuna. The presentation was just as impressive with the same look and taste as non-vegan sushi. The only reason I gave the service 4 stars is because they had a new server/cashier and there were a few hiccups during the whole process, but that is understandable for how new this place is, and definitely not a reason to pass on Izu.

Everything was delicious, best sushi I’ve had in Denver! The chicken sushi and gyoza were incredible, I appreciate all of the non-seafood or pork options

This food is soooooo bomb I simply can't capture it in words! The building is beautiful on the inside. Not at all what I expected from the street view! Also, my server was very attentive and the chefs accommodated my specific dietary requirements without making me feel needy! I will definitely be back for more!

Good Sushi. Good Service. It will fill you up for $25-$35. Happy hour weekdays during lunch, $15 for 3 rolls and soup/salad + 20% off your check. Salmon mango, spicy crunch yellowtail and tempura shrimp roll are my go to.

I gotta say I’m disappointed in the changes of this establishment. I’ve come to Izu for years pre-covid and it’s always been my favorite sushi spot but now it doesn’t feel worth the cost! I ordered a shrimp tempura roll and paid the extra dollar for cream cheese and was so disappointed to find 4 or 5 pieces of sushi when it used to be a full roll!! Not only that, but they didn’t even put the cream cheese in it :( so for $13 I got half a roll of sushi and paid extra for something I didn’t get. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be back after they’ve raised prices and give less.

Hello!! We ordered sushi from you through the Uber Eats app. There are no complaints whatsoever, everything is excellent and on time for delivery. But you guys do disgusting service! -you didn't put a chopstick or a napkin in the bag -the rolls look horrible -I found a plastic in the sushi (see photo) Recommendation: recommend that the owner hire qualified staff and in general I recommend that you go to Japan and learn how sushi should look like Ambiance I think the same like plastic in our food

It's always delicious. We've been coming here for a few years and the sushi is great! Bonus that people in the area don't want to leave their house and order it to go, so the restaurant is never busy inside. You can come in and sit wherever you like and have a good time as the cave dwellers sit at home and the door dashers come in and out to fulfill their orders. Five stars, it's a hidden gem 💎

I ordered online and received the coupon for a free roll for hitting $25 I added it to the cart when I was checking out. It then did not appear on receipt nor on the order. When I came to pick up my order they refused to honor the online coupon because it wasn't on my receipt. I only ordered as much as I did to receive said coupon and I don't understand why they couldn't just fix it to the order after pickup. Probably won't be returning

It's a great place with good food and relaxed atmosphere. It usually isn't busy and I like it. One concern is that the waiter kept rushing us. I arrived before my companion and did inform the waiter about that. But he kept coming up to me and insisting I ordered food. There were only 2 other tables, so it's not like I was stealing a place from another customer. However, after me and my company finished the meal and requested a check he wouldn't come and pick up a payment in almost 20 minutes. It was weird. But besides this I really enjoyed my experience.
