Very nice state park. Peaceful and quiet. This park has it all. Full hook ups, large pads that accommodate big rigs, and far enough between to avoid rubbing elbows. Cherry Creek has miles of trails you can walk, run, or bike. A lake. A gun range. Stables. An off leash dog park. Several amazing golf courses nearby. And a short drive to Denver for sporting events or nightlife. I've never visited a state park that was this well run with so many options to recreate, or just chill and enjoy the outdoors.

9On night 3/4 here camping, I can say that other than being so close to the grocery (amazing!), you really don't feel like youre in the city. It definitely seems that I am out in the wilderness without a care in the world. An amazing swim beach, spectacular views of the landscape, and diverse wildlife provide all the sensation of the real deal. We come every year, and every year I find some new marvel. It's reasonably priced and super easy to get to, if you want a low-stress camp outing, come here!

A beautiful state park in Denver. Especially beautiful in the fall when the trees are changing. The walking/cycling trails are really relaxing to take, and the beach is nice. The lake is cool as well, and is a good place for paddle-boarding and sailing. I’ve never camped here but the campgrounds look nice, especially for cookout style camping. Forsure a great little spot to try out if you live in Denver or are just visiting

The beach by the lake is great! Nice and helpful staff. It was a good time watching my young son play in the sand and watch the boats come in and go out. The wildlife is very diverse even for being in the city. When you are in the park you don't feel like it is in the city.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 2 week road trip. We’ve previously stayed at a Colorado State campground and from our experience they are all very well taken care of and clean. Our campsite was very spacious and private as our door was pointed towards the exterior of our loop. The campground is also conveniently located 20-25 min from downtown Denver. We would definitely return if we are in the area.

BE AWARE: Despite being listed as a state park you can access with your CPW pass you buy with your car registration... They will charge you an additional $3 fee here... Seems a bit bait & switch and borderline illegal but whatever. Once you pass them putting their hand out again for money it is quite a lovely state park especially in a Fall afternoon with a few nice trails although some were blocked with "closed" signs

10/31/21 - it was cold. Nice place, around the city. It has a lot of entrance. Almost all trees leaves are gone. Great place to fish, walk, bike, etc…..mostly during summer even swimming. Right now it’s quiet, you will mainly bird sounds. Pelicans and seagulls are together in one area.

This park is GREAT. Boating, camping, fishing, Bbqs and just a great little place nestled away. I paid $11 for a car to get a day pass and it was an all day thing. Taking photos and just taking it all in. Great place to bring the dogs or/and the kids.

Here at end August 2023, there were at least 2 roads I'm trying to cross through to make a loop were closed for construction and I had to walk through the dog park to make a complete loop. It would've been super enjoyable if the trails are not closed. It's a beautiful park, especially the flowers under the dam area. Plenty of picnic location available, restroom and water stations. Great place for outdoor activities, people were fishing, chilling, shooting ranges, flying mini planes, boating, biking etc. Very uncrowded, park could've been further utilized.

Beautiful state park, so relaxing to spend the day. Perfect place to hike swim when it's warm enough, spend time relaxing and enjoying the nature, decently clean, good amount of picnic tables and grills, fun bird watching. Cheap 10 $ fee for the day spent at the lake and grilling with the family. Gorgeous sunsets, and so beautiful in the fall

Very nice campground. The employees are helpful and nice. The camp hosts were very good. Our site was really clean and immaculate. There are plenty of bike and hiking trails. There is a very large beach area with plenty of areas to picnic. The only thing is that there seems to be some crime in the park. There are numerous signs posted about keeping things locked up, especially bikes.

There in no lights at night in the part of the campground we stayed at. VERY UNSAFE!!! Even with a flashlight, I and another women camped next to us fell down trying to get to the bathroom at night. Showers were mildewy. You also have to use a credit card for 5 minutes of shower, then reswipe your card for every 5 minutes. It took over a minute of that just to get the temperature right. And then the water pressure wasn't worth it. The whole experience at this campground was way less desired.

I guess we are spoiled by mountain camping. The campsites are close, and there are too many people. The beach was maybe ok, but all the day traffic ruined it. Our campsite was near the bathroom, and we had people constantly walking through our campsite to get to the bathroom, rather than using the paths. We left a day early because it was terrible. There were many inconsiderate campers. If you like city camping, this may be fine. If you like more remote camping, don't bother with this location. I will say the camping pad was level and clean, and the bathrooms were also clean.

Great bike trails, running, walking, etc. Also features a swimming beach! Certain trails you cannot bike on, but are great for walking or running. There are picnic benches near the lake and lots of places to park throughout. Entrance fees are included in the colorado state parks pass, or are a separate cost. Worth it as it is a great bit of nature in the middle of the Denver / Aurora metro. Highly recommend!

Love this park. Some areas are much more well kept when it comes to trash but overall this place brings me much joy. I enjoy viewing the water with the mountains & Skyline & playing I SPY with wild animals here. We've seen deer, rabbits, hawks & other beautiful birds, fish, coyotes, fox & more here! EDIT: It's been a couple of months since the flooding & its a real shame that they still haven't fixed the road to get to the opposite side or the potholes up top. I really enjoy driving around the full park & this has created a deterrent for me. Once they make these simple changes, I'll happily adjust my rating.

Beautiful day. Ice is still on Reservoir but not on trails. There are lots of hiking options. Gr8 mountain views with a kite skier on the ice.

Great place to walk your dog or even walk without a pet. The park is clean, and the lake is great to take your boat out on. There are restrooms, but not during the winter.

Great place for the pups to run and enjoy themselves. There is a creek that provides water amenities for your dog. Lots of trails to explore...a doggies dream. Parking can be tricky during peak times. Going after work M-F 5pm ish is calm. Early weekends 7, 8 and 9am are nice and cool with not a lot of people. Alwyas a good time seeing all the happy dogs.

Always enjoy coming here day or night, boating during the summer days fishing at night daily. Has a shooting range, but good place to bring the family or just hang out on your own

Love the trails! Beach area can get crowded but the people have always been great company. My boys love fishing, they haven't caught anything, but we watched others catch some.

This is a well tended campground. Noise from the nearby highway is an issue 24/7, and not all sites have electricity. Be more careful than I was when booking of you needed power. Otherwise, it is a convenient getaway for Denver metro residents who would rather not drive too far for a few nights camping out.

Very beautiful park. I absolutely love the prairie dogs!!! Definitely the highlight of the trip. Walked my dog along the path and she loved seeing the prairie dogs as well. Lots of picnic areas by the lake. We had a nice lunch there. They have Porta potties.

The campgrounds are very nice. The bathhouse( laundry, shower, restroom,) is top tier and very clean. The showers are credit card only. The laundry is coin or app. We watched as campers left, a attendant comes along and cleans the site to the point of raking the sand/pea gravel to remove signs of previous campers. We tent camped, the spaces were very generous, with good space between the sites. There are lots of trails and a lake adjacent to the grounds. The con to this campground is location in the city. There is heavy auto traffic, as well as planes, that maintain a constant noise level.

Beautiful view of the lake with beautiful tall trees covering the campsites. Restrooms are fancy. The park seems a bit upscale from most state parks I've been to. The showers have credit card readers. I thought it was a beautiful place to visit and camp. I recommend it.

Great park in an urban area. I use it mainly for cycling or running. It is a nice respite from the concrete jungle of urban Denver. The loop around the reservoir is about 8 miles. Pro tip - park at the Greenwood Village park for free and jog or bike in for free! Only downside for cardio is there is no water or vending machines so one should be self sufficient with fluids.

Been to the Dog area so far, but love this State Park. Even if you don't have a dog, come here on a low day & you're guaranteed to smile with all the pups off leash about. Our pup Tali had a blast. My watch said it was about 2miles around the loop. They even have a beach area & river your pups can play in on a hot day. Will be back!

Excellent place! Extremely pleasant camping area. The representatives are useful and pleasant. The camp hosts were excellent. Our site was truly perfect and faultless. There are a lot of bicycle and climbing trails. There is an exceptionally huge ocean side region with a lot of regions to excursion. Mainly, there is by all accounts some wrongdoing in the recreation area. There are various signs posted about keeping things secured, particularly bicycles. Be back soon.

All around love this place for playing on the jet skis . Most the staff is friendly and helpful . Rangers do what rangers do. Some rangers are more helpful then others . When not packed beaches and reservoir it's very relaxing. When packed it can get a bit hectic . Park stays quit clean for the amount of people that attend on weekends and holidays.

Excellent park! We'll maintained and spacious. To be so close to the city it's easy to forget about it and enjoy the quiet. Do be aware the bathrooms/showers off of Buffalo loop close on the 1st of October, but the main facilities near the entrance are still available.

Didn’t expect to find such a cool park in this area. The RV park was very well maintained and clean. We stayed at a site with full hookups. Definitely would stay there again.

  • 4/5 Mariya P. 8 months ago on Google
We stopped here twice, on the way to and from Yellowstone to use the RV park. It's pretty close to the highway so you can hear the cars from the Gold Rush loop which also felt pretty open. I liked Coyote loop better. Felt more enclosed/private/foresty. The spots are clean and other guests were quiet. We walked around a bit and enjoyed the lake/sunset.

It’s currently 1:00 am and a big group is still partying hard. It’s brutal. 3rd time I’ve been here in 3 years and it’s just a nightmare. Between the loud cars cranking down the highway and more rough transients in the campground it’s not fun and doesn’t feel safe. Edit: it’s now 1:30 am and music just getting going. Apparently people come in after park closes. It’s out of control.

Excellent state park with beautiful spots for campers and tent camping. Lots to do ( kayaking, fishing, flying model airplanes, horseback riding, shooting range) and you're right near the city and the convenient to shopping.

The park is great for physical activity. The lake gets very crowded. If you want to make reservations to camp, you better do so the second it's available or it's sold out. Too busy for us

This is an fun and exciting Dog Park, really a lot of free space and even a handicap accessible area adjacent to the creek bed. The dog park is just to the east of the wetlands area near Cottonwood Creek. There was a lot of water in the creek bed, knee to mid-thigh depth. Lot’s of fun with other dogs and a laid back experience today

Very nice state park. Stayed 2 nights in our rv while on our roadtrip. Had to book at two different sites. We were in a back in site in the Buffalo loop the first night and then in a pull thru site in Coyote loop the second night. Both loops were full hookup. Sites spaced out. I liked the back in site better. There is a little store in the check-in building. There is a very nice bathroom/shower (pay showers) building along with washers and dryers, which was great to catch up on laundry! Didn't check out water area (not near loops). Negatives: mosquitos are REALLY bad (we were getting swarmed), $11 entrance fee each night on top of site fee, and then my hubby left state park before 9am on checkout day to get gas before hooking up RV...well lady at entrance gate was too busy playing on her phone and was sort of rude and told my husband that he only had until noon to use parking pass (which we knew). Besides all that, it was a nice stay.

At first glance I was disappointed in coming here—especially at the harbour and beach line. Better to head to the mountains. The water is green and putrid, and there is nothing to do unless you bring your own boat. Even then, there are so many hotrods zipping around on their jetskis I could hardly see how that could be enjoyable. HOWEVER, there are some nice bike paths and walking trails that are quite peaceful and with plenty of wildlife, especially birds. If, that is, you can ignore the pop-pop-pop from there nearby gun range

If you’re in the Aurora CO and looking for a camp site, I highly recommend Cherry Creek State Park camp ground. It is very close to town but when you’re there, you don’t know it. It’s a pretty park and in our area, the campers were not close to each other at all (always a bonus).

Went camping Friday night through Sunday. Campsite was clean and had lots of space. Facilities were spotless. Showers cost money to use, credit card only. Visitor center serious firewood and is a 1-3 minute walk away. There are no obvious paths to the trails, you just need to follow the roads or drive there. Would love to revisit when it's a little greener!

  • 3/5 Omer K. 1 year ago on Google
We used the RV parking at this place. The view and parking spots are wonderful, however the facilities and especially the showers need improvement. 2 out of 4 showers were broken, too bad I had to swipe my credit card to find out about it.

It's a beautiful place in Denver, highly recommended during the sunrise or sunset. There's a lot of beautiful animals so always look around and try to see them. I've seen pretty big animals there. I have no idea how they get there or out of there. It's always nice and clean. Perfect place to go to relax during the summer even the winter if you are brave enough (: Please keep it nice for us and the animals, thank you!

We rented out an entire loop for a week. We had about 40 people there including all the kids and day visitors. The bathrooms were clean when we got there and cleaned while we stayed there. There were lots of flat places for tents as well as RV hookups. The only thing you have to watch out for is inside The pavilions when you are cooking you can't plug and use more than one thing into each socket or you will overload the system and the breaker will trip.

  • 5/5 Chelsea Sue H. 1 year ago on Google
Clean. Biking and walking trails that surrounds park and leads to sandy beach front. They have firepits and tables at each site. Could improve tree health by trimming away dead branches!! Would have liked a kids playground for the campers. Overall, Would return!!

Wow, what an amazing jewel in Aurora. We really enjoyed it, very clean, operational and peaceful. Lots of trees, bike, walking paths. We spent 4 days there camping just to use our camper one more time before it gets cold. Here are a few pics.
