If i could score it zero I would. In order to actually use the sauna and steam room you need to book about a month in advance, so not very good if you are looking to just go away for the weekend. If you want to eat in their restaurant you have to get their before 7pm, as they refuse any walk ins after that. We stayed in an annexed part of the hotel that resembles an old school, and our hotel room has a locked adjoining door to the room next to us. The double bed consisted of two mattresses, there was a fire escape door directly outside our room which was open, making the room cold. Also, they do not put the heating on after 9pm, so our room was freezing. Spoke to the lady at reception, and she was very unapologetic. Her attitude was basically, well go somewhere else then. I am going to write this on as many feedback forums as I can to save future guests having to experience this. Also, the hotels Google advert says it has an indoor pool however- apparently it has not had an indoor pool for over 6 months. The hotel advert also says each room has a rainfall shower, ours just had a standard shower.

Booked a superior double for one Saturday night mid-February 2022. There was absolutely nothing superior about it at all. Curtain hanging off the rail. Iron burn on the carpet. Television not working. Internal telephone system not working. Loo seat didn't fit. Flood stains on the carpet. Peeling paint and bashed walls. On check out, I complained and was told that my room was due to be refurbished. When I said I had taken photos, I was given a £50 discount and the offer of a future complimentary stay which would be emailed to me. After 4 phone calls over a couple weeks, I eventually was able to speak to someone (who had been there on the weekend of my stay) who promised to sort out the complimentary stay. She said she would send me an email that evening. Nothing came. Have tried again by telephone - no answer. Have now given up. The staff I came across were pleasant enough but didn't have a clue about customer service and communication after the stay has been non-existent - and yet they manage to send me emails about reviewing my stay. I waited to see whether they followed through on their promise, but now I'm ready to write my review as requested. I wonder if it will be published.

The staff were so lovely at reception and in the bar, the hotel itself was beautiful the only problem was the room, they definitely need updating and some double glazed windows! It was freezing in our room and the carpet had loads of stains, also the beds weren't really comfortable! We were in a room with a balcony so I'm not sure if they've done other rooms up already.

Enjoyable stay. Nice continental breakfast. Fairly quiet. We stayed in a family room overlooking the pool (which is a bit odd, given the kids aren't allowed in the pool!). Room fine, just a bit rough around the edges - bad grouting, no hooks in bathroom (one had clearly been ripped off the back of the door at some point).

My mother in law booked through a third party for a Spa day , after payment via email we were told that we could arrive any time after 12:30 , we arrived at 12:58 , we were greeted by the horrible reception lady , finally after explaining that we didn’t have any further information regarding the Spa she said we could go trough. The all spa is run down from Jacuzzi being full of hair to dirty changing rooms , the girls offering the spa treatments different story I have never met someone more unbothered like those girls , please train your staff , teach them customer service. The only good thing is the outdoor swimming pool it is spectacular and the staff amazing. You should try better especially after the pandemic, you definitely won’t last long if you carry on like this , get your reception lady on some extra customer service training and we may get somewhere. We paid £65 per person, we don’t expect much but we do expect good customer service, if you use a third party for your bookings , send an email with designated time for the spa treatments. We will be back for the outdoor swimming pool as the staff there are nice . We will definitely not recommend the “hotel” as it is NOT worth it

This place is way better than I thought it might be. The rooms were lovely. The breakfast was amazing! So much variety. The pool was 18c and I'm glad I braved it. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. We will be back 100% Say hi to the fish in the pond put the front as he is super friendly

Great hotel, we stayed in the rooms around the back and honestly, easier to park and get to your rooms. Friendly and welcoming greetings and check in on day one. We enjoyed the drinks in the bar after coming back from a evening out. Rooms are comfortable, clean and tidy. Good location for exploring Matlock Baths which is 10 min walk away. Very reasonably priced and great value for money on a weekday. Not sure what the pricing is like on a weekend. Access to the Hotel Lido... which is must do... do brave the cold and have a dip... it's exhilarating. See my other review on the New Bath Lido.

The MMOC (Morris Minors) Bristol Branch thank you for hosting our Easter Break. As a group of 8 cars and 19 guests we were well looked after, with full board B&B plus 3 course evening meals. Nothing too much trouble, comfy rooms, excellent food. Perfectly located for car clubs, with ample parking, ideal for a visit to The Great British Car Museum.

We would definitely stay here again all things being equal, but New Bath is a bit of a strange mix of posh and crumby. It does check all the most important boxes: fabulous staff who are so helpful and go the extra mile, exemplary cleanliness (in terms of hoovering, bathroom, public toilets etc.), really nice beds and good linens, and a very convenient location with ample parking. However, the walls are quite dirty (desperately needs a lick of paint), the carpets are heavily stained (in the room and the passages), the bathroom extractor fan doesn't work, and the pool is dirty with green algae at the bottom. Add to this other odd things like long-time unfinished building work (there are no proper tiles on the patio, just raw cement floors, and the bottom of the bath has no skirting, leaving the beams exposed) along with single-glazed windows in the 'new' section. Odd. The rooms are a nice size though and all-in-all, we enjoyed our stay, and would probably try to stay there again on our next visit, due to its convenient location and wonderful staff.

Stayed in a standard room which was in the annexe in October. It was absolutely freezing. Not insulated, single glazed windows and GET THIS the heating is only on 5 hours out of 24. Between 5 and 7 in morning and 6 and 9 at night. And even then it was still freezing cold, the only saving grace was the hot and powerful shower

We visited the spa today. Had 1hr calming massage, which was the best massage I have ever had..I was so relaxed that I slept for an hour in the relaxation room. Donna was absolutely amazing and she definitely knows what calming massage is. My partner had Faye who did a great job too! Thank you for the great experience, we will be back soon! Elena&Jason

Speedy check in. All staff pleasant and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Room was spotless, very spacious with a lively view. Enjoyed a tasty evening meal. Breakfast was a stress free Continental buffet with something for everyone, food was fresh and looked appetising. Would definitely recommend staying here. Hotel manager great.

New Bath Hotel and spa is located in Matlock Bath. The centre is by the river. It has amusement arcades and is famous for its plentiful fish and chip shops. Matlock itself is a 10 min drive away. The hotel has a spa (which we didn’t use) and a thermal pool. Don’t be fooled the “thermal” pool is warm as the name suggests. When we visited it was 17.6 degrees with swimmers in their wet suits. The hotel needs a little updating. Our room was clean and tidy. The shower controls needed some TLC as the knobs were loose. However the room was cosy and a good nights sleep was had. The restaurant decor needs improving. Bland was to say the least. If they repainted and used tablecloths and candles it would go along way. The food in the evening was very well presented and to be honest perfect. We had pigeon which was cooked and presented well. Also the trout which was lovely. The meat mains were indeed well cooked. The only disappointment was we booked through secret escapes with a two course dinner as part of the package but we were only given £25 towards the dinner cost which came as a surprise at checkout. Breakfast was slightly different. It finished at 09.30. We went down at 9am. It was continental which was fine however the buffet was literally empty. We had to ask the staff to replenish the drinks and products as they weren’t replenished. They used the lounge as an overspill for breakfast which had a better atmosphere and was much better decorated than the restaurant. Would we go back? Probably not but as a nights break you could get worse.

The room was very clean and suitable. The block the room was in was dated and felt like a care home facility. The swimming pool was freezing but although too cold for me didn't deter others. As for the treatment I had and the spa facilities I was not impressed, the steam room was suitable, the sauna didn't get past like warm and the bubble pool had zero bubbles but was nice and warm. The treatment cost me 70 pound for a back massage and facial, the massage was horrendous, the facial was suitable but not worth the money. It was meant to be a 55 minute treatment but I was only given 45 minutes so basically they ripped me off. I wouldn't stay here again

Some of the chairs in reception are stained and need cleaning or removing. I had to ask for the desk chair in our room to be replaced as it was very badly stained. Staff very pleasant, continental breakfast had a good selection of items to choose from. Parts of the hotel are a little tired and needs a lick of paint but overall we enjoyed our stay

  • 4/5 Daniel H. 9 months ago on Google
Really lovely hotel. Staff extremely helpful & the pool is incredible. Only issue was the breakfast which was very basic (no hot food at all) and very understaffed so a lot of the items had run out (croissants/yoghurt/butter) and replenishment was very slow. Other than that our stay was great.

Only visited the pool. Lovely experience. Water is very clean (and cold, obviously) and it's so nice to swim in water that doesn't have chlorine. Life guards are a good laugh and very friendly and helpful, and easy going. Changing spaces and toilets were clean, and generally the place just had a nice vibe to it. Plenty of parking, not too busy. We enjoyed it very much and will be back. Tenner is not cheap for a regular swim but it makes it a treat to visit. No faff.

Staff were great. Even took me down to see the plunge pool and the spring under the hotel. I really enjoyed the continental breakfast. Swimming pool was too cold for me. Only real gripe was an apparent lack of information about local attractions.

This place was a well needed destress break from work and kids' summer holiday and did the job beautifully - rooms are great - we had issues with the kettle and the phone hence that's a 4* (which we wanted to use to book dinner) but as soon as we highlighted this to staff, they said they would handle, which to me is fair enough. The lido is a must - as an outdoor swimmer it was brilliant and the service in terms of briefing from the lifeguard was top notch. The only downside for me was not being able to access the spa facilities without booking a treatment. I would have happily paid for an access only ticket as I'm not a massive fan of massages, but this wasn't available online and I didn't get the chance to ask whether that was possible - perhaps that's on me though. I would suggest an access only ticket as a new product if the spa can take it. The absolute top part was the food in the brasserie, and the almost athletic service from our waiter at dinner. Having enjoyed a classic fish and chip supper in the village on our first night, we booked a table at the hotel for our 2nd and last evening and it didn't disappoint. The pigeon starter is definitely recommended, along with both the chicken main and the bream was simply delicious.

Stayed here for two nights. Staff are polite and attentive. The hotel dates back to the 1700's. There is a spa and an outdoor heated swimming pool, which seems very popular. Breakfast is continental only but there is plenty to choose from.

Booked this hotel as advertised as up market with pool. The pool was good... But the Room!!! Hot, stuffy like the rest of the hotel Old. No aircon ( at this price) asked for a fan....didn't have any spare. Room was very small. It was clean and staff were helpful...but receptionist only answer to most questions was no!! Very dissapointed. It wasn't cheap . Again its the rooms that let It down.. besides the pool I would rate as 2 star.

The Bath hotel is a luxury hotel with a very dated annexe alongside.Plenty of little staircases everywhere and no lift but there are porters to help out.A very chilled out and nice atmosphere awaits you in the bar and the service is good. Breakfast is continental and it's set in a lovely room which doubles up as the restaurant. The bedroom was in the annexe which was a bit of a hike but the views over the pool was excellent.Great to see them swimming so early on a Sunday morning.

The hotel is tired, there were no hairdryers in the room but one was brought up when I called reception. Some fizz had been left in the room which was lovely as I’d told them it was my boyfriends bday. There was a faff about the lockers in the spa and you needed £5 cash deposit for one which wasn’t explained to me on arrival, so I didn’t bring my purse down with me. I was given a key and the locker already had someone’s belongings in. So I got a second key and the lock was hanging out of the door. By the time this had all been sorted we were 15mins into our 1 hour treatment. I’d booked a hot stone massage but was told that I hadn’t as that was only a 1 1/2 hour treatment. I was disappointed as I’d been so looking forward to it, but said ok. On checkout I spoke with the spa manager and explained the mix up with the treatment. She agreed with me that I had booked the hot stone message and it was the 1 hour option. She refunded me £10 which apparently was the difference. I’d of liked the right treatment to start with as £80 for a 1 hour treatment isn’t cheap. And breakfast was pretty basic… All in all very disappointing. I wrote an email to the hotel but have had no response hence my review on here.

Room was basic but plenty of space, situated in an annex behind the hotel. Room was cold and duvet thin. Except for the initial check in the staff were rather uncommunicative and lacked enthusiasm. Good location, quiet and lido looked interesting.

It's all a bit tired tbh, Our room could have done with decorating, but the bathroom was very nice. Room was red hot with the window open ! We went and had a look at the pool area which was very run down and the bottom of the pool had green algae all down one side. Breakfast was a very basic continental. Reception staff were very friendly but the lad looking after breakfast was on his own and quite stressed. I won't be going back anytime soon. Shame really

Lovely 1 night stay here. Room was well maintained. Beds were very comfortable, full bath in bathroom in a standard twin. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We went for a dip in the thermal outdoor pool, it's was a chilly 17.7 degrees so brace yourself and recommend having spare clothes you can quickly throw on to keep warm. You need flip flops and swim hats but there were spares available. Short walk into town down a slight incline on pavements. A gentle uphill on the return. Plenty of parking.

Only a one night stay so we could take in the Christmas market, my wife myself and two friends, we really enjoyed our stay in our big spacious rooms looking over the swimming pool. Unfortunately the overnight snow put a bit of a dampener on our planes to take in more of the beautiful local area, leaving for home shortly after checking out. Thank you to the team for digging everyone out of the carpark, well done.

  • 3/5 Lin H. 6 months ago on Google
The first room we had was spacious with views of the outdoor pool, however it was extremely cold. We asked at reception and were informed the heating was on a timer and only comes on 6pm to 10pm and again in the morning. Thankfully they were able to find us another room in the main part of the hotel. As we walked from one part to the other even the corridors felt warmer. The rooms were adequately furnished, the bathrooms very stylish. There's an amusing warning about the sash windows , advising you to be cautious. The food in the restaurant was not good. A burned bun and undercooked burger. We didn't have time to complain and request another meal; as we had tickets for a gig in Matlock. The hotel package days breakfast included. We expected it to be a cooked breakfast and were disappointed to find it was only continental. However there was a good selection of pastries, Cereal and fruit. It was good to see a seperate section for those who require gluten free options including a seperate toaster. In summer the outdoor heated pool would be delightful, there were 3 or 4 swimmers using it whilst we were there. Its heated by thermal springs and was not a comfortable temperature unless you are used to wild swimming. The location of the hotel is great, a 5 minute walk into Matlock. Cross to the other side of the road and turn left. The pavement on this side if the road stops abruptly. We enjoyed our stay. If we came again we would request a room in the main hotel and eat elsewhere.

Booked a superior room. Was very small and cluttered had to duck to go through the door. As it was a birthday requested a better room. Was told by receptionist words to the effect of - You got it cheaper as it was booked through a booking company. So basically she was saying you get what your given. After a bit of back and forth requested an upgrade and was told it would be an additional £50. To which I said that’s too much so left it deciding to get on with the night. Next day the shower didn’t work. So had to rush off as we had an appointment at 11am to get showered at home. Having a takeaway coffee and a bit of fruit so missing breakfast. Made an email complaint no reply two days later so phoned and asked to speak to manger. The manger Sarah Foxin was in a meeting all day but offered me a £20 refund and emailed me saying I could have used the bath ! My wife has never washed her hair in the bath and never will. I have all emails if verification is required. I asked her to phone me to resolve it properly and she said no as it was resolved then accused me of harassing her. I asked for the official complaints procedure and she said this was it and all emails are reviewed by the owners. Told her I wouldn’t lower myself to accept the £20 and to keep it. She added I am barred from the hotel. To which I asked did she honestly believed I would want to stay there again.

Came here for my Birthday Sunday-Tuesday and on arrival it looked lovely, inside was even better. Very clean and tidy and staff were very friendly. We had a superior room which gave us a lovely view of the outdoor pool and garden area, had that holiday feeling. Our room was beautiful, very comfortable bed, very clean and spacious with plenty of tea, coffee, milk etc.. a short walk down the road was the village with plenty of chip shops and amusements and things to do. Absolutely wonderful, I was a bit gutted I couldn't be fitted in for a massage but we paid extra to have use of the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room which was nice still. Will definitely be coming back.

Everything perfect except the lack of a full English breakfast. Thought the Forget me Not in the village might do, it's closed! However Charles B&B and Restaurant was good, but only from 8:45am!

This hotel is advertised as “up market”, yes there is a pool which is quite nice, but that’s where it stops. I paid £107 for a double room with balcony, the photos on the website were misleading to say the least. Our room was in the back annex part of the hotel, which had not been made clear upon booking - only upon arrival did we find we were staying in what was essentially a second thought - a means for the hotel to make more money. The room was small and needed modernising, painting and cleaning. Grubby carpets, peeling wall paper, loose screws on light fixtures and unclean (mouldy) sealant in the bathroom. The service on the day of arrival was ok - after discussing the misleading room photos and asking for an upgrade to what I had paid for, the woman on reception was apologetic. She informed me that there was a wedding on at the venue over her weekend and there was no room available to be upgraded to - disappointing. She said that she would pass on my comments to management, who I’d be able to speak to the next morning. This did not happen however, and in the morning when asked by a different woman on reception “how was your stay?” I replied that the room was not as expected, to which she agreed “yeah it’s not very nice out the back rooms” - a baffling lack of consideration to customer service. I have attached photos of the room, and I can assure anyone reading this that it was absolutely not worth the hefty price tag for just one night. Disappointing to say the least.

It’s all about the pool! Wonderful setting just down from Matlock. Make sure you stay in the rooms with a pool view for that extra holiday feel. The pool is available to guests but it’s recommend to book a slot too. There is a spa there with massage and hot tubs so it can feel like a proper getaway. The restaurant wasn’t up to much but I’m sure that can be improved !

We had a great experience in new Bath hotel and Spa. The staff were very kind to change our booking in the last minute family emergency that we had. The staff were very professional and very helpful as well. All of them. We had a great breakfast too. Definitely recommend it.

Stayed here before going to the Heights of Abraham. Arrived late after a long drive and only really slept here. Unfortunately I did not have a chance to experience the spa facilities which open at 10. The outdoor pool seemed very popular and was busy by the time I went to check out. There is plenty of parking at the front and to the side of the hotel. Breakfast is continental style, I had cereal toast and some fruit. They were kind enough to allow me to leave my vehicle in the car park all day while I explored Matlock and visit the Heights of Abraham. Both are within a 10-15: minute walk from the hotel. Hopefully I can visit again to check out the spa facilities.

Great location for exploring. The staff at the Bath Spa Hotel could not have been more friendly, helpful and accommodating. I asked Jean on reception who was very kind and helpful if she was able to call for a taxi and there was no availability she called the manager and he himself took me to which I was extremely grateful.! The rooms were very nice and the beds were very comfortable. I would certainly stay there again. Elizabeth

Fantastic hotel at a great price. There is a thermal outdoor pool which is excellent - sadly not suitable for children and the indoor pool isn’t open at the moment. One main criticism is that the annex rooms are VERY cold when compared with the rooms in the main building. There are electric heaters provided but it takes a while for the room to heat up with them and the bathroom floor tiles are freezing (bring slippers) Bottled water, tea / coffee making facilities provided. Some furnishings in the room are a little dated, but the hotel public areas are lovely, it’s comfortable and clean and the staff are delightful - both in the restaurant and reception. 10/10 for their kindness, politeness, willingness to help, friendliness and just a joy.

Great hotel. We stayed in Sept ‘22 We had a family room, ground floor, overlooking the swimming pool. Clean and tidy and a great price. We didn’t really use many of the hotel facilities as we were up and out early and wanted to use the cafes, pubs etc around us for food and drinks The location was absolutely spot on for exploring LOADS of places nearby. Would definitely recommend as a great base to explore from.

The room we had in the annexe was spacious with a lovely large bathroom. The beds were comfortable. The house staff, on the 2nd morning made sure we had everything we need without being intrusive. It was however a little tatty around the edges. The heated towel rail was broken, scuffed and tatty bases to the beds. The staff we spoke to were pleasant and helpful. We would have appreciated it if they had told us to drive the car around to the annexe car park when we arrived instead if us carrying our luggage around to the annexe After an evening stroll we came back when it was dark and the lampposts were not working leaving us to walk up the rough unmade road in the dark. The highlight was the outdoor pool and the staff in there. Really welcoming and friendly. We did not have breakfast there as there was only a continental option available. Nor did we eat in the restaurant. The short walk into Matlock Bath was worth it to see the seaside town nowhere near the sea!

Firstly, Thank you for hosting the Hornsea mermaids! The location is perfect. The room we had was overlooking the pool with fab views. The room was tidy and adequate. It would benefit from better staffing levels ( which I know is challenging right now) The bed linen was spotless and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was lovely with a fair choice. Again the staff were lovely. Reception were cheerful and happy to help. All in all a good choice.

Very easy to find hotel in great location for exploring the Derbyshire Dales. Our room was in the annexe, large bathroom, spacious with a balcony overlooking the pool. the decor didn't reflect those shown on the website. Decor is tidy but a little dated in the bathrooms. Cleaning staff are clearly doing a great job and were very friendly and helpful. Points we weren't too impressed by.... Stains on the divan base of bed. Bathroom dated and mouldy grout/sealer around bath. Refreshment tray was poor, no biscuits, and minimum requirements met. Definitely no frills in room. Big sell for us was the superb pool, naturally fed with mineral water and a joy to swim in once you've got used to the slightly warm 21°. Very disappointed with the continental breakfast which was very limited, but evening meal was absolutely delicious. We would come back and request the same room mainly because of the pool and lovely staff.

My partner and I went for a little getaway trip. Overall it was a really nice experience. Room was clean and looked really nice and spacious. We had a bath which was a pleasant surprise. We had balcony as well but it needs a bit of work. We had a Continental breakfast booked which was absolutely amazing-waffles,smoked salmon, baguettes, cream cheese, cupcakes, pancakes, cereals, croissants, jam, all sorts of juices, coffee, yoghurts, fruits. We were really impressed and it was so delicious, Defo worth to book the breakfast! Restaurant looks nice too. The only thing we were not that impressed with was the pool which looked a bit outdated (especially 1 end of it) and water was freezing cold. Most people who were in, were in a full swim suit. Definitely need a good paint and clean maybe if possible. Staff were really nice too.

Visited to New Bath Hotel for a Spa Treatment. Had two very good treatments, very relaxing. Went for a swim in the outdoor pool, took advantage of the Spa facilities including the hot tub, steam & sauna rooms. Tapas lunch was excellent. Fabulous day out.

When we arrived we were given an uncleaned room when we informed them they gave us a spacious room. The floor made a lot of creaking as they were really old. The bath wouldn't drain the water so was flooding while I was having a shower...the continental breakfast was croissant, toast jam and cheese. The spa was fully booked. Definitely not worth the £150 per night fee.
