Couldn't be happier with our stay. The rooms were great, it was located just outside of town within walking distance of everything in Newcastle, and the owner Darren was one of the nicest people we'd ever met. He was very helpful with booking of our golf outings, he made great dining recommendations, and even offered to give us a ride into town on multiple occasions. If I'm ever back in Newcastle, I will definitely be staying here again!

Favourite place we stayed on our trip! Was such a lovely clean comfy place. The owners were so friendly and welcoming. Beautiful setting, stunning views. Our daughter loved playing in the gardens really can't wait to visit again next year and will definitely stay at The Briars for the whole trip. Coffee was top notch too!! Thanks for your hospitality!

Myself and my son stayed almost a week in the Briers Cottage. Absolutely beautiful Darren couldn’t do enough for us. Beautiful idilic surroundings and gardens. This is the best place to come to if you want a relaxing stay. The staff were so friendly. All amenities were available in the cottage. I will definitely be back here.

I would call The Briers a hidden gem settled at the bottom of the Mourne Mountains and only a mile from Newcastle Town Centre. The owner Darren was great and totally focused on making sure everyone has a great stay nothing is too much trouble for him. The grounds surrounding The Briers are beautiful and are ideal for children to have a bit of freedom while you relax at a picnic table whilst enjoying the stunning views of the mountains. The bedrooms were spotless and were both bright and spacious and an added bonus for the quests is the free continental breakfast provided by Darren. I will definitely be back again and highly recommend to anyone wishing for a holiday and dogs are welcome as well.

We stayed there for 2 nights in September 23. We liked the accommodation, location and overall feel. The only issue was the breakfast 🥞 🍳. Maybe not so much for us , but some guests were not so happy. I heard one man leaving saying to his partner: “ It was pretty bad , wasn’t it “. The breakfast is continental, which would be fine. But if there are more than 4 people in the breakfast area it gets too busy. Our second morning there were 8 of us and we were constantly in each other way. But the main issue was some food out of date. Bread by 2 days ( found mould on it ) , croissants by 3 days. Don’t want to think about cheese , salami or milk in the fridge…. No dates on those.

Brilliant little bed and breakfast guesthouse on the edge of Tollymore forest. Warm, comfy rooms and good breakfast included. Dog friendly too.

Darren is a fantastic host. He makes you feel welcome and is very accommodating. The rooms are large and spacious, beds are very comfortable too. I loved the living room to sit back and relax in, rather than staying in my room. This is on my return list. Can’t wait to stay again!

Only spent the night, the hosts couldn't have been nicer made us and our 3 year old feel very welcome from the moment we set foot in the door. Room was great totally spotless with a great view of Donard out the window. We used this as a base for going into Newcastle for a meal and a drink the walk in was 30mins with a short bit with no footpath which might be an issue for some then the Taxi home was a fiver, there's a snug bar in the guest house which was handy for us as we came home early with the little one. Breakfast was self serve continental style again great with a little one as they can be picky and all included in the price. Definitely will be back and they've big plans for developing the place hopefully maintaining the current atmosphere and service.

A perfect little get away with the most amazing views. 10/10 service from the owner Darren nothing was a hassle at all. I had one happy little girl, with complementary black box donuts. So much choice for breakfast. Such a beautiful, cozy friendly place to stay.I would highly recommend this place. Stunning garden, clean rooms. This place gets my vote. Good luck Darren for what's upcoming at The Briers Country House. I will be back. Thank you for the warm welcome and the Guinness. Debbie and Amber 🙂

Stayed here while working on Down Rally. Fantastic attention to detail . Very friendly at reception, totally put us at ease staying there . Fully explained where everything was . Room and bathroom was immaculately clean . Plenty of room in the twin room we booked . Beds were extremely comfortable and the most comfortable pillows I have found in a room in a long time , plus plenty of them . With a bad back I need extra pillows to support my back . Plenty of sockets in room as my son films at rallies these are a must to charge all batteries . Fresh bottles of water in room , more could be got from cooler in reception. The best nights sleep I had in a long time , very quiet . Large gardens outside . As we were up early didn’t get breakfast but were offered to go into dinning room and help ourself to coffee/ tea and some fruit which we appreciated . Would totally recommend The Briers and can’t wait to make a return visit. I would like to wish The Briers best of luck in the future with their expansion and look forward to visiting again to see , Caroline ( aka Rally Mammy ) & Ciaran

Darren is lovely and nothing is a bother. The house is set in lovely grounds. We brought the dog with us and he loved wandering around the gardens. Breakfast was continental style which was nice. Will definitely come back again.
