The hotel is in great location, walking distance to all major tourist spots. That's the only positive. Food below average, breakfast very basic, room (even tough we paid for superior double) was not really to the standard. Pillows were very hard, weren't changed on request. Bed was very small and bathroom need an upgrade. Swimming pool is a depth an a size of a puddle (1.1m deep)

I had a lovely stay here, comfortable, clean and very friendly and helpful staff. Special mention to Gerry the doorman who is a great character. Breakfast was surprisingly limited and a bit basic but can't fault the quality apart from the orange juice. Dinner was delicious on both nights but we were waiting a long time for our food to arrive. Either way the minor blemishes can't take from an overwhelmingly positive experience we enjoyed. A wonderful hotel and superb location.

Ideal location right beside all the shops, restaurants and pubs. Our room was clean and spacious. We had a river facing room with a nice view of the Peace bridge. Buffet breakfast with a good variety. Left my purse in the room so I just want to say a special thanks to the receptionist who got on to house keeping for me and got my purse quickly sent back to Dublin to me. So grateful.

Best aspect of the hotel is its location. You can park in the hotel's free car park and walk around the city. Nice friendly staff, some great characters among them. Nice foyer and bar area. Limited bar food menu, but tasty. Would recommend the fish and chips or madras curry, the burger was not great. Rooms are warm and comfortable. Best rooms have a view of the peace bridge and the city. You may have to pay up to 15 pounds extra for the view. Good lively atmosphere. One of the receptionists speaks with a lovely but strong Derry accent. He needs to slow down his speech a little so the tourists can fully understand him. Otherwise no complaints. Prices vary, but look out for good deals on overnight stays. Ideal location. A good time guaranteed.

Great location but overall quite shabby. TV and air conditioning did not work in the room, which for 200 per night they should have done. We were on the 3rd floor so not a lot of noise from the bar, but could get quite noisy from other guest rooms and shouting in the corridors.

Can't fault the staff except 1 (manager). FILTHY mattress (pics included), only 1 thin sheet between us and that!! Room not cleaned, cooked breakfast absolutely disgusting, no room service unless you want a ham & cheese sandwich, ham sandwich or a cheese sandwich, told residents can't be served at bar until 1.30am!!! Paid extra for 2 nights breakfast, complained yet no refund, complained about above but was told to speak to top manager but he was on annual leave... Derry is amazing, just DON'T stay here!!

The team is great. Super friendly and a credit to the establishment. Really amazing that parking is available and free Food and drink top class and it’s a great evening venue. It was rocking on both nights we were there. The hotel falls down in its value for money. It’s tired throughout, but especially in the bedrooms. The windows don’t open to allow fresh air and rooms are stuffy. The management tried to help with this with comp breakfast and Late checkout which was appreciated, but the process to get to resolution was poor. It’s also clear from reviews that others have mentioned similar problems and it hasn’t been resolved the the hotel. For an average of £170 per night on a February weekend without breakfast, it’s expensive and given the need for refurb, not 4*. Also for a large superior room to only have a standard double bed and not at least a Queen seems a step back in time. Having spent over £340, its disappointing to spend a weekend away and stay in a bed of inferior quality.

Excellently located hotel with superb view of the river Foyle. Free parking in the basement. Staff were wonderful, friendly and accommodating. Foyer and restaurant decor a little tired and could do with investment. Cold buffet at breakfast could do with being moved to avoid congestion at breakfast time, particularly at weekends. Great value. Highly recommend.

Stayed here for two nights as part of a tour and, unfortunately, didn't get much sleep. The room was very warm. It would have been nice to open the window more, but it only opened up a crack. Of course, with the window cracked open, the sounds of the city were endless. What put us over the edge was housekeeping taking two of our souvenirs. Didn't realize until were packing up to catch the bus out of town so we couldn't approach the housekeeper about this. Grrrr. The restaurant, bar and hotel location was fine, but this is not a place I would book again in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed our Saturday night visit to the City Hotel. Participating in the City's Jazz festival The Mindbenders were performing. Absolutely Brilliant. Excellent musicians and there repertoire had all the guests dancing anywhere that was available. Great to see so many people have a good time.

Very disappointing- nowhere near a 4 star rating. The hotel is more like a 2/3 star. It was extremely expensive for the size and standard of the basic double room we stayed in and also the service. We were part of a large family group and the hotel were unable to facilitate all the rooms close by to each other. The whole hotel needs a revamp - it’s very aged. The room was very dark, small and basic with no view, no plug sockets by the bed, one lamp not working. The pool was also out of order during our stay. There was one friendly concierge upon arrival - everyone else appeared fed up working and certainly did not provide anything beyond a very basic service. Not worth the money, avoid.

The first thing is kudos to the staff, they are all amazing no matter their role. The hotel is a little worn and in need of a spruce. The rooms are spacious and clean, but are showing signs of their age with cracked tiles, flacking paint, curtains that aren't hanging right etc. The worst thing is the lack of air con. A fan is provided but it just isn't up the the job. The WiFi is sporadic and if you are working this is an issue I've only had breakfast here and it's what has come to be expected of a buffet breakfast... Not fabulous

Great location. Poor attention to detail. Rooms need work. Damage and stains on bath and taps coming away from sink breakfast was brutally both days. So unorganized, toaster in totally wrong position, under trained staff.....headless chickens comes to mine....tried to make everything self service but that only works if everything is there. No milk for cereal, no butter for toast, waiting on eggs, waiting on bacon, waiting on glasses. Definitely a one star service experience and not worth the money. Ended up leaving the breakfast the second morning after waiting 20 minutes on condiments and eggs. Got a lovely breakfast butty around the corner for a fiver

It's definitely a must-see experience. It's more of a history lesson in Irish history with Catholic vs. Protestant. There's a wall still erect to separate them but is open now. You can sense the residue of the unrest in the air still. I would recommend a history lesson first so you don't get yourself in trouble. Despite the history, the people are amazing, happy, and very welcoming.

We stayed here as a group of 6 - two triple rooms. Rooms were excellent, perfect for a city break or a night out when you aren’t in the room much. £60 per person. The service was very good upon checkin and you couldn’t beat the location. We didn’t get to use the leisure facilities but I would definitely stay again. The breakfast the next morning was ok just , there was live music on the Saturday night

The hotel is about to start a refurbishment very soon. It is needed in some places but their staff and quality of food more than makes up for that. Gerry from Derry is a real character and worth chatting to (concierge) as he can point you to places of interest. I have no hesitation in saying I will book again next trip.

Had a great night in the hotel with a meal deal, The food was very tasty and the service was excellent, we dined early before the restaurant filled out. Our room was nicely finished and very clean and the room service breakfast was no extra charge. Limited free parking below the hotel fills out quickly, but multistorey just next door available at a fee.

Had a booking with hotel for Sunday 10th Dec and phoned and told the hotel I might have covid and they are still willing to have me as a guest. I called and asked could I change my date of stay and was refused cause I did not call them as if I knew I was going to be sick! No consideration for health and safety of other guest. stay clear of this hotel!!!

Had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Rooms were cosy, food was good. Location couldn't be better, right in the middle of the lovely city of Derry.

Stayed two nights at City Hotel, very centrally located, within easy walking distance to town centre. Room was very spacious with comfortable beds. Room rate was very reasonable. Made use of swimming pool & leisure facilities... hat needed for swimming pool but can buy on site. Had a few drinks in the bar, nice ambience, staff friendly & well trained. Only disappointment was breakfast on both days. Hot food is buffet style. Its obviously fresh when cooked but left under heat lamps and dries out making it less than tasty. Restaurant staff at breakfast ate friendly but do not pay attention to hot buffet. Breakfast could easily be so much better, just pay attention to foid & dont cook everything in one go and leave it out to dry....

Fantastic hotel. Very friendly and professional staff. Great location. I would highly recommend a stay here if you are visiting Derry. Very clean rooms and comfortable beds. Excellent swimming pool and gym. The bar is excellent with a great selection of drinks and food.

This was our first time to stay In The City Hotel in Londonderry. Staff were so friendly and helpful and nothing was any problems for them. Fantastic entertainment Saturday night and a delicious breakfast in the morning. The only two things that I would like To see changes in are have porridge for breakfast along with the other cereals that are available. Plus a carpark at the Hotel would be great too. Definitely Recommend This Hotel and very worthy of a 5*

Stayed one night, was disappointed at the hotel, presented shabby and unclean, hands always felt dirty after touching something. Bathroom was pitiful with a plastic shower curtain over the bath tub, the toilet directly faced a wall so was 6 inches from facing the wall when on it.. One small complimentary soap, shampoo and shower gel. Kettle in the room eith 2 cups both dirty. The carpets in the hotel also dirty. The location is handy but also noisy with the traffic. Ate out and would not eat anything provided. Would not recommend this hotel.

Arrived late on a Sat night, had just cycled length of Ireland and it was lashing down. 2 door/security men could not have done more to help us. 2 really super blokes which is not the normal for doormen. Service inside the hotel is incredible, reception staff are efficient and really welcoming.

The meals are lovely, staff friendly. Breakfast needs attention Bacon Potato bread over cooked food left uncover which causes food to dry up under the food warming lights. Food was nit hot enough. Really needs to be in bain Marie's to keep both moisture and heat in. The beans where dried up, they need to be stirred throughout service. The Pastry where over cooked. Shame really because the meal the day before was good.

Spent nearly 2 weeks in Ireland and this was the least enjoyed location. The hotel is older and is due an upgrade. Location is perfect for walking around the city. Breakfast was decent.

Avoid at all costs ( unless the price is around 60 a night)! What a disappointment, basic bordering on the decrepit! We booked a Friday night stay, I had high expectations as I remembered the hotel from my youth as modern and high end! Unfortunately, it was then but clearly it has had zero investment since then! The furnishings and fittings were old and dated everywhere! The breakfast was so basic and without service yet there seemed to be staff standing around! Way over priced, worth maybe half what they charged if even! I would avoid at all costs as there are much better options in Derry!! The hay day of the City Hotel has clearly been and gone!

Had a really good stay here the last 2 nights. Staff are very friendly, hotel is very nice and food is good. Also central to all the main spots. Gerry in particular who greeted us on arrival and departure is so good at his job and will go out of his way to help people and made us feel so welcome. Some small gripes/suggestions: Would be ideal if parking could be guaranteed on arrival when requested but minor issue as cheap nearby at the Strand and Gerry did offer to try and get us into a carparking space the next day but we just left it where we first parked it. Maybe could have more information about what is going on in the city highlighted around the hotel but we could also have asked. Room was very hot and had to switch off radiator completely and open window. Couldn't get cooler water running in shower. Pillows werent the most comfortable either. A fridge would also be a nice addition to the room. We stayed in room 627. If back in Derry would definitely choose the City Hotel again.

Last night we had our Christmas get together for Childline at the City Hotel. What a fantastic evening. The food was beautiful, everything tasted exceptional. The waiting staff, I felt went above and beyond to make our experience highly enjoyable. Nothing was to much bother and they were happy to chat whilst doing a fantastic job. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend others to visit the City Hotel. Definitely 5 stars from myself ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stayed here over the course of two weeks and honestly was really disappointed. Over my stay I slept in 3 different rooms and they were all the same poor standard. The first room had multiple stains running down the wall, the bathrooms in all three were just dirty, the rooms are very dark and dreary. Some of the staff were nice and some were just terrible to deal with. The car park has 40 spaces which is terrible, I was advised I would get parking half price in the next door carpark only to be charged the full amount. Just lots of wee silly things like this made up my opinion.

Cracking location in Queens Quay, some rooms looking out to the river and peace bridge and others looking into the city and the walls. Decor is a bit tired, but it is comfortable, clean and has all the amenities you need (iron and board from reception). Staff are lovely and friendly too. Bar has a wide variety of drinks and snacks and the restaurant food is quality too. A few minutes walk and you are in the centre with a huge selection of bars, restaurants and cafes. There is a Tesco close by too and great transport links. Would highly recommend this hotel and have already booked it for my next stay.

The friendliest and kindest staff you could ask for. This trip was for my Mum's 81st birthday and they made her feel so special. Great ambience, lovely food and as always, a really warm welcome. Love this place.

Superbly located within walking distance to all of the sights in Derry/Londonderry. So much to do and see. Rooms are spacious, some with good, elevated views over the city. Limited free parking in hotel basement car park. Couple of issues: poor quality toilet roll, TV channels losing signal at night, and air conditioning could not be controlled from our room. Raised issue with reception and no response was received. Dining room food was good.

This hotel is warm and welcoming. It is in a central area of Derry, close to bars, shops, bus and train stations. We went here for my nieces birthday celebrations and we were not disappointed by this hotel.Room are very spacious and clean. Restaurant and bar area was lovely with a wide range of choice both in delicious food and drink. What makes this hotel so fantastic is the staff. They are friendly, professional, happy and hardworking. It's this that makes the hotel what it is. They really could not do enough for you and so approachable.
