Went here one day after work on the weekends. Want to busy so we were able to get right in. The service was good, our waitress was on top of it! It was a e re saying day so I’m glad I brought my umbrella, as you know downtown parking can be horrible.. A few of my friends have been here and told me it was really good. It did not upset but there is so much competition downtown I don’t know for often I’d go here compared to a few of the other places. I’d 100% recommend if you’ve never been though.

This is a great pub in a gorgeous historical building, centrally located on Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit. It's a very quick walk from the Marriott at the GM Renaissance Centre and many of the other hotels downtown. There are lots of seating options, both downstairs (two rooms) and upstairs in the loft area, as well as a nice outdoor patio. My friends and I stopped here for drinks after we arrived in Detroit and it was bustling, but had a nice relaxed atmosphere. It happened to be happy hour, and they have fantastic deals. We opted for the Reuben sliders and a couple of local beers - they have an extensive list of local options to choose from, with a few on the happy hour menu for half price. We sat in the loft and had a birds eye view of the whole restaurant. The service was quick and attentive and the food arrived quickly, fresh and piping hot. The Reubens were absolutely out of this world delicious, and a perfect snack for after a long flight. The smoked meat was so tender and juicy, and the buns were soft and had a delicious toasted buttery crunch. They paired so well with the beers. All of the other food we saw going to other tables looked and smelled fantastic as well! We loved it so much that we tried to come back the next day. Unfortunately, it was packed as it was a Tigers game day and there was a long wait. It's definitely a popular place! We had a great experience and it was a wonderful way to start our trip to Detroit!

Was told there's a 15-minute wait although every other table was open. Took a seat at the bar ate there was never informed about the table. Had a spicy bloody Mary very good. Grilled cheese sandwich and chicken sandwich were excellent. Four stars because they were understaffed or were not seeing people in a proper manner. Two drinks and lunch $52 before tips. Overpriced won't be going back.

A must if you’re in downtown Detroit. Incredibly good food - masterful recipes with delightful riffs - like the delicious sauce on the eggs Benedict variations - and excellent preparation. A fantastic cocktail list! The butter washed bourbon Old Fashioned with cinnamon simple is addictive - and only upstaged by the Not Your Garden Variety Bloody Mary that in fact does arrive with a whole garden of vegetables (including marvelous pickled asparagus spears). And the space is beautiful. You’ll be charmed straight into its very historic past - an 1879 jewelry store that became a Grand Trunk Railway ticket station! Your only challenge will be trying decide who’s your favorite member of the staff!

To be completely honest here, I'm not entirely sure how it's taken me this long to stop in here and have a few drinks. The history here alone, makes for a worthwhile trip. It's old, it's deceivingly large, and It's probably one of the most beautiful and history rich bars in town. Aside from the history, the incredibly friendly knowledgeable staff, and the sizeable beer selection are worth the trip. This place has one more major thing going for it, and that is location. This place is located amongst many of the things that everyone is coming downtown to partake in, so if that sounds like you, this place should absolutely be added to your itinerary. When you walk in, the first thing you'll notice is how it opens up into the beautifully historic architecture that you'll see throughout this entire place. Secondly you'll be greeted by one of the super friendly, professional, and knowledgeable staff members that keep this place running. This is a bit of a sidebar, but when I was in, I overheard one of the bartenders recommending all sorts of other places to hang out and drink to a couple of sports fans that were in town for a game. To me, that is awesome that you'd go above and beyond and recommended places that are technically your competition so people can mosey around and have a good time. This place is also deceivingly large, but you probably won't realize that until you make your way to the bathroom. There is a whole separate seating area located on the side where the bathrooms are. While we're on the subject of bathrooms, let's just say that they're not great here. I understand that building is old, and there is only so much to work with, without having to put a bunch of money into the place and then deal with it being historic and all that jazz. All I am going to say is that I am very, VERY glad that I only had to visit the urinal and nothing else. Simply put, it's hot, it's sweaty, it's dingy, and it's very, VERY cramped. To be completely honest, that is really my only complaint here. The service was great, the beer was cold, and I had already eaten or else I would have taken a dive face first into the fare they offer. When all is said and done, if you're downtown hopping around to different bars and scoping things out, I would highly recommended popping in here for a drink or three. You most certainly won't regret it. Cheers!

This is a quaint place with the scenery of a railroad station or yard. The food prices are good. I ordered fried pickles and a corned beef sandwich with seasoned fries. It was good. Oh the drink was a specialty drink made with salted Carmel bourbon, delish!! You can check this place out if you prefer beer or a craft drink. The music was banging with old school Kool & The Gang!

Amazing experience! Our server was great and friendly. I'd recommend the pretzels and beer cheese appetizer for sure- so delicious. I enjoyed the impossible burger while my partner ate the veggie wrap. Lots of beer options if you're into that. The architecture was notable as well- the ceilings were beautifully arched, and it was a delightfully chill rustic feel.

I brought family in from out of town and I thought this would be a great place to bring them as I’ve always had a great experience here before and it was close to Campus Martius. It was an hour wait to get in and we had kids with us. The manager Donny and our hostess Asia did a great job finding room for 10 of us during the holiday rush. We had great service for as busy as it was and to food was awesome. Thanks guys!!

Decent food served cold as a punishment for arriving 20 minutes before close on 1st visit. Friends ejected from bar weeks later during afternoon football game by ingracious and unpleasant server saying they were too crowded (though no door signage indicated waiting for seating was expected). Great space and location. Upscale bar food menu looks promising. Staff seems disorganized and place feels a bit chaotic like a house full of kids with no adults.

The hostess at the door Brittney was AWESOME. I did not like the two waitresses on duty that day. The one lady did not even want to wait on us, so Brittney got us another waitress but she had a little attitude as well. The food was good and Brittney was AWESOME.

This place was a mix of good and needs improvement. The beer and ambiance were good. It's a cool old railway station. The burger was over cooked. The service was friendly, but absent-minded.

Food isn’t the same as it was before, they definitely have a new cook. Excited about the reopening however the chicken and chips used to be sooooo much better than what it is now. My local folks will understand what I mean, it’s a little heartbreaking.

Absolutely great! We purchased tickets to the VIP weekend brunch before their grand reopening next week, and had a great time. The food was excellent, the drinks were great, and our server was excellent as well. We are happy to see the changes made to the building, the upgrades to the menu, and we will definitely return.

Beautiful building with great history. Our server didn't know anything about the history of it so I looked it up online. Very very small menu, burgers..fish n chips.. chicken n waffles.. chicken n chips.. chicken sandwich, a few starters, a few desserts. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because of the history of the place, the rest of it would get 1 star. My coleslaw didn't come with my fish n chips, finally got it when my food was almost gone. They don't have butter in the building, for waffles. Service was very slow and the restaurant was very busy.. Only 2 servers. Must hire some more to satisfy customers. Portions were on the small side and everything was between 12-15$. Won't be back, but good luck to you Grand Trunk Pub.

Great selection. One of the best wings in Downtown Detroit. Pub also does trivia nights.

  • 4/5 James H. 2 years ago on Google
It was good as usual. They’re a bit pricy for what they have. ($8 for 2 pretzels?! Common guys🤦‍♂️😂). Very friendly staff and people. Food is okay but a extremely limited menu especially for myself. I like coming here for the drinks though. They are always delicious. They were busy while we were there and service was still fair. They forgot the rock candy in our rock n rye sours but that was fine.

Four days I was in town for a Microsoft thing. Since it was our first time in the area we wanted to try someplace different each night, and we did. Out of all the other places we walked into, we always ended up back here. GTP has a small town homey atmosphere, friendly waitstaff and bartenders. Food was really good bar food. I don't know how else to say it other than it just felt comfortable, like I was sitting in my small hometown neighborhood bar & restaurant. If I'm ever back in downtown Detroit, You will definitely find me here.

  • 5/5 Cheryl P. 4 years ago on Google
This is cool old bar with character. Bigger than it first appears. Bartenders worth both very good as attentive but not bugging you. One laid back and one cracking jokes and fun(goofing around but pro). Loved atmosphere and scene in bar as easy going. Large beer selection on draft and bottled. Something for everyone. This was a great stop as food was ordered all over and drinks with fair prices for downtown. A must stop and would go again.

The food was absolutely great however we were sat and promptly forgotten about. It was on a weekend afternoon during brunch service and we showed up not long before the kitchen closed for brunch. The hostess reminded us to be quick before seating us and then nobody ever came to take our order. We sat for nearly 30 minutes and finally tracked down someone to take our order. It was clear that nobody knew we hadn't been helped yet. Once we got our food it was delicious but I'm hesitant to go back knowing that in a busy setting I might be completely forgotten about. We were starving when we got there and it was extremely frustrating to wait as long as we did to get our food. For those that can see the response from the owner, I'd just like to add that I followed their instructions a week ago to email them directly and still have not heard back. I guess I can expect to be ignored from management as well. If I could reduce the number of starts of my original review, I would.

Love this place, I'm a regular , come two times a week. They always treat me as if I'm VIP. The vibes and ambiance are perfect for a night on the town . If someone from out of town were to ask me " what's the best bar in Detroit?" , I'd recommend this place first .

  • 5/5 Sean J. 1 year ago on Google
This place for sure deserves more than their current rating (4.3). Service was great, the atmosphere is amazing, very historic. The food is probably the weakest aspect but by no means bad. Would recommend and revisit on a trip back to Detroit

Always a stellar place to stop when strolling down Woodward. Had a Grand Ol'Fashioned with cinnamon maple and yumminess garnished with a Belgian waffle. Great beer selection too. And love the signs on bathroom stalls. Good stuff!

Met some friends here in Detroit. They were busy but not full with plenty of open tables in the side room. Our waitress was very friendly and nice but appeared to be relatively new and inexperienced. She could have been more attentative but wasn't awful and was trying hard. The Brussel sprout dish and grilled cheese sandwich was pretty good. The tomato bisque was excellent. We ordered pub fries for an appetizer and they were excellent. They tended to be a bit salty but that is how I like my fries and we really enjoyed those. The restaurant has a very nice vibe and lots of history attached to it.

I was really excited to try this place but unfortunately it disappointed. I got the curry poutine and it was okay. Really basic, nothing really exciting about it. My friend got the chicken sandwich and it was bad, the chicken was so tough. The waiter was really attentive, I think their name is Josh

Grand Trunk is great an old favorite. Great lunch special. A little bit of Detroit history in this restaurant. The corn beef sandwiches whether on Rye or Brioche are really good. The old time sodas a can of Verners or Root Beer. This lunch time gem will not disappoint.

Love this pub! Great ambience and great service! The food, the cocktails and the shots (LIONS SEASON SHOT SPECIAL "The Roar Shot") AMAZING! Kris was our server she was knowledgeable and exceptional. All the staff just great including Brandon! Definitely must come in for some spirits and food! 10/10 recommended 💜

This place is really nice on the inside, I was greeted by a friendly waitress and seated promptly, I didn't stay and eat or drink anything this time, I was kind of overwhelmed with the craft beer menu, and I dont know the names of most mixed drinks at the bar, but the menu seemed extremely promising. Next time I go I will be sure to stop in after 4pm so they will be serving more than just appetizers. I'm looking forward to dining here. ?

I've gone here a number of times over the years and just never had a great experience. The tables are way too cramped and the service is never good. The food is OK depending on what you order. On the last visit I ordered a bowl from their lunch menu. Not good. But I've enjoyed their sandwiches and burgers in the past.

Our go to spot for happy hour and lunch. Best chicken tenders in town. Ask to have them tossed in their buffalo sauce, you won't be disappointed! Their soup of the day is always great as well. Great beer selection.

The building itself is interesting enough you should go at least once. The beer menu is also excellent but maybe a tad over priced. The food is good but fairly standard bar and grill stuff. Also, they play interesting music generally and have much better acoustics than most bars.

Stopped here for lunch after a tour of the Guardian Building. This place is filled with history as it was once the ticket office for the Grand Trunk Railroad, the same one Edison took from Detroit to Port Huron. The staff were amazing, so into the history of this place, in serving great food and in being part of Detroit’s renewal. My turkey club on sour dough bread and my friend’s Reuben were delicious and enough for two people. French fries were hot and tasty. The place serves Michigan beer and represents the best of both this great city and Michigan. I noticed they also have breakfast foods on their menu. Will definitely return.

Casual bar offering up the best of Michigan craft beers either on tap or by can/bottle. Great atmosphere also as the bar is located in a historic building with high vaulted ceilings along with large windows looking out. Must try the bar bites menu. The pickle chips are awesome: lightly battered and fried with a malt vinegar dip and the pretzel bread with warm beer cheese is equally great. Definitely a Detroit must if you're looking for a great tap list and done filling snacks.
