my husband took us here for our second wedding anniversary. to say we were impressed would be an understatement. the food was amazing. our drinks were so good. they brought us out every dessert for a surprise! we had a lot of fun talking to the bartender upstairs at the ghost bar and to top it all off the ghost tour after was so much fun! the mansion is stunning and i hope we come back every year and make it a tradition

If you're in Detroit for even one day, GO TO THE WHITNEY. A friend and I flew in at 10am and our departure flight was at 4pm. We made time for the afternoon tea and it was worth it! First, the Victorian mansion is incredible. From the exterior design to the doorknobs, this place is beautiful. The staff are incredible. They knew we only had one hour to spend at tea before going back to the airport and they made sure we received our drinks and canapés right away. Every detail is spot on and special. Such as the welcome mimosa, learning details about the mansion, the food, the tablecloths, the teacups. I wish there was a similar experience in the city I live in.

The beautiful Whitney mansion makes for a amazing dining experience! The grandeur of it all, from the tapestry to the molding. The staff are witty and accommodating. The portion size of every option is filling. Although I enjoyed the carrot cake, I would have thought they would have come with something a little bit more imaginative. The atmosphere calls for a more tantalizing dessert.

The Whitney is the classiest place to dine in Detroit, perfect place for a romantic evening or a special occasion. I highly recommend doing the historic tour, so cool to learn the history. We also tried the paranormal tour and it was a blast, great host!

Great for a Special Evening!! Amazing Food and Service ❤️ Everything was really just Perfect. The Architecture and Decor of this historic Detroit Mansion is truly a sight to behold 👀😲💕 Stone Staircases, Stained Glass Windows, Elaborate Moulding and Accents. The food was ALL amazing ❤️ their Famous Beef Wellington was tender, and paired wonderfully. The Seafood saute was Delicious. Their Signature Drink, "The Witching Hour" Martini 🍸 Dangerously Delicious 😋 Appetizers, soup/salad, Dessert included with your Entree.

Where to begin with this place?! The service was absolutely amazing. Our waiter was funny, informative and just genuinely enjoyed his job. The bartender in the ghost bar was the same way! So polite, quick with our orders and had so much to say about the place. The aesthetic is elegant but welcoming. And the FOOD! Oh the food was excellent. The pecan crusted walleye was some of the best damn walleye I've ever had. The half chicken was flavorful, juicy and big enough to feed me for 2 days! The veggies that came with it were done perfectly. The carrots were naturally sweet and the asparagus had the perfect amount of crunch to them. Truly cannot wait to go back!

We went to the Whitney last night to celebrate a birthday. The house itself was amazing. For dinner my boyfriend got the Beef Wellington and loved it. I got the chef's special which was a seafood pasta. We were both very underwhelmed by my dish especially considering the price. It was very salty, overly chewy, and too heavy. For dessert we got the bread pudding which was great. But again we also ordered the "chef's whim" which was a chocolate cake. This somewhat felt like leftover birthday cake from a grocery store. Would have expected better again considering the cost. After dinner we went up to the ghost bar and then got a tour of the house which was very interesting. Overall the house and all the history was great, but I would recommend just going for a drink as opposed to spending a crazy amount on mediocre food.

I went for the birthday special. It was soooo nice! The food was good and so was the service. The mansion is beautiful. Can't wait to go back. On site parking is $10 and dining is expensive but worth it.

We celebrated Valentine's Day here. At $99 per person before gratuity or drinks, it's not cheap. For that price it includes a four course meal. Soup/salad, the appetizer trio shown in the photo, an entree, and then a dessert. For fine dining, it's really not that much more expensive given all the food it includes. It was hands down the best meal I've EVER had. Totally worth the money. I'll surely be coming back for special events

The Whitney was a grand experience! Parties of all sizes can be intimate and special. Our menu had "HAPPY 51ST ANNIVERSARY SHARON AND RUSS" Printed at the top. Complentary anniversary champagne toast. Special dessert tray with Happy 51st Anniversary R&S. Treated us like we belonged there. The best treatment ever from a restaurant. Lovely. Thank you!

This place is incredible. The building has amazing ambiance, the staff was charming, knowledgeable, and welcoming, and the food was delicious! After our dinner we ended our night at the ghost bar with some cocktails (also delicious). Would definitely come back, the overall experience is unique and fun. We were celebrating our anniversary and they treated us with champagne!

I made reservations for 4 a couple weeks ago and came in last night at that time, two buddies ran late so they escorted us to the third-floor where we got a couple glasses of wine and waited until other members of our party arrived where we then went to our table and our waiter could not have been better and more accommodating. Their customer service is insanely good, our table was wobbly so they put us in the VIP room where it was a single room with a single table with lounge chairs around it. This was literally VIP treatment that we got; the owner came in and shook our hands and we were then taken around by a historian after our dinner which was amazing. The portions were a little bit smaller than expected but all in all I was full and I was happy and they treated us very well. The historian took us around many parts of the house giving us a bunch of facts about the home and the tile and the brick and the electrical wiring and the history of some of the rooms and what they used to be it was just absolutely the best service I have ever had in a restaurant. I am definitely going to be coming back here for another special occasion as I can count on their staff treating us extremely well hats off to the staff, to the chef who made our food, and to the well versed historian, they respected and honored our time, our patronage and our visit; it could not have been a better night.

The Whitney is a landmark home, they offer tours and have offer events there. The building is rumored to be haunted. The food was excellent. The staff was attentive and friendly. We started by having drinks at the ghost bar, they we really good. We took our time eating the four course meal. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the home. The only thing I thought that could use improvement was the presentation of the food was a little below par when compared to the price. They have a dress code, so keep that in mind. The menu is available on their website if your interested in taking a peek.

Very fun experience overall. The rich history of the whitney was fun to hear the waitress to talk about. They really enjoyed working there and telling their unique spin on the room or building. I really enjoyed the hearty steak and eggs. Overall it was alot of fun and I would return

Definitely a spectacular place! This is a place for fine dining, so take your time, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the atmosphere/scenery. A beautiful old mansion converted into a Detroit icon. Excellent restaurant for an evening of delectable dishes and some history. Valet parking and mansion tours available as well.

Fantastic experience and gorgeous ambiance with unique architecture and history! We greatly enjoyed our elegant Sunday Tea 💕 Tony, the manager, along with the entire staff, was extremely hospitable and Tony entertained and enthused us with his stories of the ‘paranormal’ activity! The Grand Premiere Tea was a culinary experience of a lifetime. I couldn’t wait to come back for dinner, so I was back for dinner last night. Everything was phenomenal! I had the seafood sauté which was delicious and packed with scallops, lobster, shrimp! Be sure to check out their PPSC program, which includes a complimentary surf&turf birthday dinner (almost the value of the membership itself), $25 dollar gift card, and SO much more!!

I have been to The Whitney several times. My sister actually was married in one of the private rooms. This was the first time at The Whitney as a vegan. I have never been to a restaurant that was so willing to accommodate my food restrictions especially when it's a set menu. I planned a tea party for 30 people and only 3 of us were vegan and the substitutions they made were great. This was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Atmosphere 10⭐ The service here is always amazing and so accommodating. They make each person feel special. This restaurant will always be one of the most coveted because they set a standard that many others can't compete with. If you visit Detroit, visit The Whitney and don't forget to have a drink upstairs at Ghost Bar.

Awesome experience. We went for lunch and to see the nutcracker ballet. The ballet moved between rooms and we followed along to watch. Only 50 dinners allowed per show so it's very quaint and intimate. No pictures of the ballet so I have nothing to share there. The food and service were superb. If you have the opportunity to experience dining and a show it's very worthwhile. The Whitney was decorated for Christmas.

We had an EXCEPTIONAL experience here for Sweetest Day. We had a party of 11 and we had an absolute ball! We loved hearing about the history of it as we've always heard it was haunted, so that was super exciting. The architecture is absolutely amazing! And the food and drinks? Absolutely divine!! We had a 4 course meal and I was absolutely stuffed by the end. This was also my first time having Beef Wellington, and it was soooo good! I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant if you have the time and interest in amazing food and great history! Oh and the customer service is top notch!

Came for the Back East Feast lobster boil dinner. Raw bar & champagne upon entry. Dinner was lobster bisque, blue cheese slaw, whole lobster, classic, mussels, king crab, red skin, corn on the cob & strawberry shortcake. House beer & wine, tip & tax included in ticket price of $99 with 10% of each ticket going to the charity to help the communities homeless. They have music playing while we dined under the tents. Gorgeous evening for the event. Waitstaff was outstanding as usual. This is their 4th year doing this event. My only 2 recommendations would be is to serve salted drawn butter (several others noted as well) and to not cook lobster with rubber bands on the claws. We requested salt shakers for the butter but due to the moisture the tables attempting to use them had difficulty. Other than those two minor fixable things it was a perfect night with the great food The Whitney is known for!

I was born and raised in metro Detroit but had never dined at the Whitney. This changed this week for my 41st birthday celebration we decided to do the $40 off your meal the Thursday before. I was so concerned it would be a let down, but I can happily report it was not. Our waitress, Anne, was amazing. I had planned on doing the Wellington, but had some reservations. She asked me questions about what I look for in a steak and recommended the filet instead. She was 100% correct. It was so good I didn't really need the steak knife. The appetizers were on point. I added a lobster tail and since visiting Maine in 2004 lobster has never been the same. This was the closest to Maine lobster I've had in nearly 20 years. My husband commented how did they get it so velvety? After dinner Anne personally toured us through the mansion. She gave a great tour and showed us so many little nuisances of the mansion. This was my first time at the Whitney, but it will not be my last! You will pay for the experience, but it really was worth it.

The Whitney, takes top spot in the metro Detroit area from all the once that I have been so far. The perfect example of history, historical significance and also service and food are well put and maintained to the standards along with pricing. Highly recommended if you are in metro Detroit. This place brings the vibrancy of what Detroit was and is today.

Went here for brunch. Everything was perfect, from the attentive valet, hostess and server. Food was delicious, as was their cocktail called the Ma. Beautifully decorated for the Christmas.

I'm glad I made the trip to the Whitney. It's an incredible place that takes back the front door, stairway, stained-glass windows to the dining area. It seems like everything inside the mansion was meticulously done. The service was excellent. It was definitely a great experience

The Whitney truly sells itself. If you enjoy a place with history and great stories then this is a place you’ll want to check out. It hides in plain sight along Woodward as you head downtown. We went for our anniversary dinner and were blown away by the level of service. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Throughout our night there were 3 different people who stopped by to converse with us and ask if we were doing okay. My personal favorite detail was the live pianist who played exceptionally well. Service is very important to us and I must say they topped the list of places in Detroit/Metro Detroit. They provided an experience not just a meal. We both selected a 4-course dinner menu. It included the beef wellington (I recommend medium well), the Chilean sea bass, lobster bisque, and appetizer trio. Of course we also received complimentary champagne for the occasion. The main entrees were prepared to perfection and were more filling than they appeared. If you’ve never had beef wellington this is a great first impression of it. The lobster bisque was also very rich in flavor. The appetizer trio is an acquired taste - I wasn’t in love but also didn’t hate it. In consists of a ratatouille, a shrimp cocktail and a seared piece of beef tenderloin on crostini. The best part of all is that it’s a great price point. I’ve spent twice the money for half the quality of service at places like the Highlands. I can’t recommend the Whitney enough.

The salmon tasted amazing, and was cooked perfectly. It was too salty, though. No need for that with such a perfect piece of fish. The staff was awesome, and very knowledgeable about the history of The Whitney house.

  • 5/5 Ryan T. 2 years ago on Google
Great overall experience with the tour of the mansion after dinner. My beef Wellington was prepared perfectly. The filet was ordered chefs preference and was not uniformly cooked throughout, the medium rare piece I had was amazing, but towards the edges it was closer to well done, which wasn’t as enjoyable. Was disappointed the carrot cake I had heard about wasn’t on the menu. Had a great meal, and the tour was very informative and worthwhile.
