MAY I SLAP THE CHEF PLEASE!!! It’s hard finding a VEGAN menu/restaurant. If I find one it’s usually the same burgers and salads. They have a VEGAN menu and it has Shepards Pie, Chili Chz Fires, Bugers, Nachos, and much more. It wasn’t just good, IT WAS SPECTACULAR. Waaaaaaay better then I expected. No extra salt and pepper needed 🤣. Here comes the Cherry… THE SERVICE IS JUST AS GOOD AS THE FOOD!!! Stop by and TRY THE VEGAN OPTIONS. 😍😍😍 (everything in the pictures are VEGAN)

Only thing Irish about this place is the name, color green, and Jameson. Menu is purely American dishes. Music was 80’s hairspray. Interior is great but feels like a dive bar with an Irish name and nothing else. Turns into a dance club at night.

This is one of the best place for vegan or vegetarian food, hands down. We were really very surprised! They have great selection, most delicious food. Service is awesome and so are drinks! Wish we went when there was a game. It sure has great atmosphere

Loved this little bar. We went don't to Greek town and stopped here before going to the casino. They had good food and the waiters were nice. A little on the expensive side. But overall was pretty good.

The Guinness pour is quality, that’s about it. Had the buffalo chicken wrap but I didn’t find it appetizing at all. Not enough chicken and the vinegar was potent af. Service sucked. I got more attention at my table from the bouncer than my server. Wish I had cash would have tipped the bouncer. NOTHING was Irish about this place but the pathetic need to fit into Irish culture with the decor, Oh well… 🤷🏼‍♂️

Impressively expansive clearly-labeled/dedicated vegan menu with a ton of variety and options! The bar was fun, we stopped by for a quick lunch. Staff was friendly, sit anywhere & order at the bar kind of experience. Definitely would go back!

This place is a hotspot in Greektown. It is always a fun time and there always seems to be action going on here. The building itself is very old, like most are in this part of Detroit. It is 3 floors, with different action going on each floor. On the top floor, there is a balcony for smokers. There is also a spot to sit outside on the bottom floor. There is music, dancing, and of course, drinking. There never seems to be a dull moment here. I have never had their food, but most of the popularity of this place is from the atmosphere anyways. Overall, this is one of the hottest bars Downtown.

Never thought as a Lebanese guy I would go downtown and pick up an Irish girl but I met her here on June 26, 2019. After seven weeks I married her and now we are about to have our first child. This place is so lovely and friendly. Thank you, Old Shillelagh. I love this place. 🥰🥰🥰

Good ole Irish bar just outside of Greektown happenings. AC downstairs felt so good, upstairs bar had great view of event area below. Darts, TVs, longs bar with friendly bartenders.

I'v eaten at multiple restaurants in the city with vegan options. Let me say, this place has the best food by far!!! They just launched a vegan brunch menu that was very unique & full of brunch staples from a pecan parmesan crusted avocado Benedict to corned jackfruit hash. Everyone loved the new menu & we can not wait to see what new items they have to offer next!

Not the biggest fan of this bar. Music is good on the weekends. Didn't like that the drinks are weak and served in small cups. On top they add gratuity to every bill. They do have a sign on the wall at the bar. However if your not paying attention...you might double tip every time you cash out. This was a turn off for me. Maybe if the drinks were better I wouldn't mind.

Absolutely LOVE Old Shill. Being vegan it can be hard to find many options. However, this place is amazing!!! So many delicious plant based options! The reuben rolls are mouth watering AND the shepherds pie!!! Of course everything is great! Can't wait to come back for a visit! Service is always superb! Thank you all so much!

Surprisingly good amount of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Decent sized portions. This place has been around for a while. Also I'd actually rate it 3.5 rather than 4 but I can't give half stars.

Incredibly loud dance club music from a DJ on a Thursday at 9 pm. Not sure why that type of thing is needed in an Irish bar… it’s a dive bar not a dance club. Decided to leave after a drink because it was so obnoxiously loud.

Just went from a 4 star to a 3 star. My cup has been empty for a few minutes. There's 2 gentle men behind the bar right in front of us holding a conversation. Slowly turning to 2 stars as one is now waiting on someone else. Sigh... service was quick but getting outta here or another drink. Not so much. 3:28...still waiting. Been walked past a few times and overlooked now. Had to ask for the tab. 🙄

Randomly stopped by for lunch and watch college football on a Saturday. (before shutdown....support local small businesses) Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Delicious food. It was so good that I came back two weeks later. Then next time I tried the Vegan dishes. SO GOOD!!

Lots of cold beer on tap, friendly service and great location. This was our first time in Detroit and this bar stood out so we stopped in and didn't leave disappointed. If you’re in the downtown Detroit area I would definitely recommend this place to "wet your whistle"

  • 5/5 Gerrit B. 5 months ago on Google
Nice little neighborhood Irish bar. I went in on a Monday night and everyone was playing jeopardy together so it’s definitely got that neighborhood locals vibe. The service was prompt and the food came out quickly. I ordered the Ruben rolls and they were delicious. I’ll likely be back once more before I leave town.

A crunchy bar in the heart of the city. 3 floors, including the rooftop patio which is heated and enclosed in the winter months. A mix of younger and older people, and good drinks. Not the cleanest place in the world, but usually has great music and good eats. If you plan to head down at night, expect a cover. It's never really completely packed unless there's a holiday or a game downtown.

  • 5/5 Dave M. 1 year ago on Google
Hit Greektown last nite to pre-game b4 the Red Wings game. Stopped in at my favorite Irish Pub. Had a double cheeseburger, which was amazing. Learned Old Shillelagh only uses Michigan pasture raised beef. One of the best burgers in Downtown Detroit hands down w/ delish seasoned fries + fun atmosphere.

  • 2/5 Brian M. 1 year ago on Google
I do not like leaving bad reviews but, I spent $80 on a thin corned beef Rueben deli sliced, not from brisket like you would expect from an Irish tavern, and a mushroom Swiss burger that was thin and possibly cooked from frozen. The fries were good. The sauerkraut was dry and tasteless. The can of Michelob ultra-light was $7 and served in a plastic cup. I understand food/beverage costs have gone up, but why should the value go down? I would give this a 1 star, but the bartender was nice and attentive. I used to love this place back in the day when the food quality was so much better and a can of beer was $3.50

  • 3/5 Cody W. 2 years ago on Google
Some drinks are only available downstairs and we were upstairs. One of us asked for our veg burger with no bun and they both came that way and the bartender caught the error immediately. However when they brought up a bun, they said it wasn't vegan because they had toasted it with butter so it was useless. Also beware you have to pay to park next door which was $15. Our bartender Philly and all the staff were super friendly and efficient.

This place is great! It’s a cool place to hang out and chill during the day then it turns into a total party at night! The food is delicious and they have a beer on tap which you cannot get anywhere else. Check it out!

Had a drink here. Nice place, but too sports orientated for me. Heard they have a band upstairs, maybe catch that sometime. Nice staff working here. Quick. Pleasant and responsive. Great place to meet. Park at Greektown Casino and walk over is easiest.

My friend and I were excited to try some vegan items, but we waited an hour and a half before deciding to leave without having received any food. We decided this after a table seated 10 minutes after us were given their food and even finished eating said meal. Would’ve appreciated if we were given any kind of updates, such as why it was taking so long, what the ETA was, anything at all. Nope, just left their while our server avoided our table. Weirdly undignified way to be treated at a restaurant I had high hopes for. Very disappointing.

Amazing vegan food. Nice atmosphere. They have butler's in the bathrooms. Nice atmosphere. Kinda rough neighborhood so don't leave your valuables in the car.

Had a great time with friends here. They were able to accommodate our large group and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. The outdoor seating area was great for people watching on a Friday night. The bartenders and wait staff were fantastic! One complaint: The bouncer at the front door did NOT appreciate my dad joke. 🤣

I went here for a Vegan Meetup Group gathering, and they actually had special menus made up and laminated and everything for us. I had actually tasted their food at this year's VegFest down at Eastern Market, so I knew I couldn't go wrong in that department! For the record, I had the vegan Shepherd's Pie, and it was totally delicious. The service was great, the food was very tasty, and the prices weren't too bad. Great atmosphere, very nice and helpful waitstaff (we were on the second floor). Part of it was the company I was with, but I personally had a wonderful time here and will definitely be back! And yes, they do have real meat dishes - it's not a vegan restaurant or anything - they just spruced things up for our Meetup, which we are/were very grateful for. Just had to throw that in! So yes, if you're ever downtown and looking for a good place to eat (and maybe have some adult beverages), check this place out - it's totally worth it (even for meat-eaters, I promise)! Peace!!

Great place for bevs and clean food. Love the Meats, Reubens & Shepherds Pie. My personal favs: Grass fed burgers, Reubens, Sheperds Pie to soak up brews before a Lions or Tigers game. Night life on Fri/Sat 1st Floor & 2nd floor always fun.

The service was excellent, and the staff knew their drinks well! There was plenty of space and they were super accommodating with us moving tables around for a 10+ work crowd. The food was typical bar food, with good support for vegetarians and vegans

If you need a bar venue for an event, The Old Shillelagh has the best rooftop bar for it! The events coordinator Alexa was so easy to work with and responded right away and scored us an awesome dj for the roof! We hosted about 80 people with ease and the bartenders (Johanna and Nichole) did an AMAZING job! Lexi was downstairs greeting our party and getting them drinks and she was so nice. Couldn’t have asked for a better staff or venue for our event. Thanks!!

Been there over 20 times over the last few years. Took the bus to a few games downtown. Overall the experience was great! Staff was awesome. Bartenders inside were fast and attentive. St Patrick’s day there is unreal. So much fun. So many people come out to celebrate there! Would recommend to anyone!

We came with a big group a few weeks back before a wings game and were surprised about the excellent and fast service during a busy time that we hadn’t experienced anywhere else before a game downtown! The food and drinks were great! Not to mention the shuttle was fun and safe. We will definitely be back for more Irish egg rolls!

To be completely honest I've only ever ended up here because of the Motor City Tattoo Expo kick off party. I know, I know you're now wondering how I've not been here during St. Patrick's day, and that is an entirely valid question. My answer? No clue, I just haven't, haha. The party always takes place in the private upstairs area, so I haven't done much hanging out down on the main floor beyond going with people to smoke out in the nice heated and covered outdoor smoking area, which also happens to be equipped with several tvs. Overall, this place is pretty clean (definitely better than many of your older comparable bars). Including the upstairs bathrooms—as I have never used any that are on the main level. All the staff that I have interacted with here have always been great—but keep in mind that I've only been here for private events, so I imagine the event gets extra attention versus just popping in for a few beers with friends. Nonetheless, everyone has always been friendly and accommodating. Many bars serve pub style food (burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, etc..) and this place is no different. What sets this place apart as far as food goes is the rather large menu they do have for being a bar of their size. There are a ton of things to choose from, and when it comes to bar fare, to me that's always a plus. However, with that being said, I haven't gotten the opportunity to try most of the things here due to the fact that the events I have attended mostly only have a selection of their appetizers and really nothing else—but with that being said, what I have tried was good. They also have quite a variety of beer on draft (which is also a plus), and all of your usual liquor likings as well. When all is said and done, if you're looking for a decent place downtown to stop in for a few beers and possibly dinner with friends, then this place will give you what you're looking for. Cheers!

not like how it used to be,was a good place to go ,now it more like a,club instead of a pub! then during St.pattys they charge u as much as your phone bill to get in the door on top of the money u gonna spend there for drinks, they have no more live music no more,i speak of during night, day time its cool and nice to go into!

When I came here last year, it was just awesome. Great atmosphere and great food (order the Shillelagh Burger, best stuff I've ever eaten), the only thing that could've made it better would be if I could've drank a Guinness, but I'm not 21 yet so that's all right. Since I live in Germany, I didn't have a chance to eat there since then, but if it's still only half as good as then, I highly recommend it.
