Found this place by accident looking for a great dinner. All expectations were met and then we realized we were eating in a retired fire station. As a retired fire fighter, our appreciation is enhanced even more. We then walked around and saw all the great fire art and artifacts throughout. Staff and wait staff are attentive and helpful. The drinks a creative and tasty. All of our meals were great. The only constructive criticism I can add is the portion on the pork loin meal was a bit small with only about a 1/2” loin cut. The salmon, seafood and salad plate were all sized appropriately. The flavors were excellent and we will definitely return in the future. Thanks again for a great experience. I also must add both the appetizers and desserts were size appropriate, tasty and flavor friendly.

I love this place. It was our first time here and everything was amazing. The atmosphere is really chill, cozy and just lovely. The staff is really friendly and our service was fantastic. We ordered the salmon deviled eggs and smoked whitefish dip for appetizers, and the arugula risotto (which was incredible), house cured pork loin, and roast otto farm chicken. Everything was amazingly good. We had a really great experience and we are already looking forward to going back.

*Food review only* I didn’t stay in the hotel just came for Sunday brunch. The place is beautiful on the inside, wonderful for pictures and photo ops. Now that that’s out the way. The menu is small!! They offer like 5 options. They don’t even do a mimosa flight or crafes. A ambiance of this caliber should offer options. The food was just okay. Service was bleak, barely came by. Overall, not impressed and won’t be back nor recommend.

Overall a nice place to dine! The food and desserts are quite good. The atmosphere was unique in it own way, but at the same time was certainly a trendy “modern/rustic” look, however I didn’t love the low lighting.

This place really blew my expectations out of the water. We started with espresso martinis then a sparkling Riesling which was great. The steak was amazing and the gnocco was so good. We got a desert wine which was really sweet but delicious, then ended with the chocolate tart which was so fresh and airy. The staff was so kind and accommodating. Would absolutely come back here again.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Beautiful decor, amazing staff and really good food. Couple of dishes were a bit bland (lions mane mushrooms, coconut cream pie) but over all highly recommended. You NEED to get the deviled eggs and, at this time, the peaches and cream dessert!

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Pricey but definitely worth it. Drove forty minutes to get there and would definitely do so again! Pork tenderloin Ras El hanout, spring onion hummus and charred brassicas were the clear highlights. All exploding with flavor but even tried and true standards like salt and pepper parmesan fries were well done.

It pains me to leave this review. My party of 7 came to celebrate, anticipating a first class experience. The food quality, flavors and presentation earned 5 stars, wow! But food was served carelessly at improper temperature by people who didn’t care or inquire about it. The service was a major disappointment. Friendly, so 2 stars for service instead of 1. If this was a Cracker Barrel, I’d rate the service a 3 out of 5 but totally inappropriate for a restaurant that tries and succeeds so well in other areas. Just a quick list of things which were out of line on our visit at 5:45 on a Sunday evening with maybe 20% of tables full. A member of staff poured water but did not greet us. I was surprised that the woman who filled our water glasses and left without a word turned up 10 minutes later and introduced herself as our server. We had questions about the menu/drinks but had nobody to ask. Once we finally ordered drinks and they began to arrive, they arrived in 3 batches so the first served sat awkwardly while looking around to figure out what went wrong and who was missing drinks. The bar appeared fully staffed and there were at most 10 patrons sitting at a bar that could easily seat 40. 15 minutes waiting for drinks to arrive after waiting 10 minutes to order drinks is too long. A professional server can tell at a glance when a table is looking for something- ours clearly never glanced. Come to think of it, the entire meal I caught no glimpse of our server ready to respond to a gesture. While my wife was hoping to spot our server to order a round of drinks and refill an empty water carafe, she said our server was at the bar chatting with staff having a drink of something herself. I’m glad she didn’t tell me until after our night. It’s a struggle to enjoy the good things about a meal while pretending the service is good enough. Though at $80/person we shouldn’t have to. I could go on, there were about a dozen things that disappointed me about an otherwise amazing meal. But crummy service is exhausting and so is writing a negative review. Bottom line: Apparatus Room- as much as I loved your food, your amateur server diminished our special night out.

Great breakfast at Apparatus Room last Saturday. Service was excellent. Great coffee great food. Awesome historical venue. I love how they have the 3 fire polls and the giant old doors where the fire trucks used to enter and exit.

Good food. Good Cocktails. The desserts were awesome. Must try the Pavlova. Only problem was the wait time even after booking a table one month in advance. We had a table reserved for 7:30pm on 05/08 as a graduation celebration but we were kept waiting for 30 mins. I understand it was a weekend but having a table booked a month in advance I did not expect such a long wait. A bit of a mood killer on a special day.

I've always enjoyed Apparatus Room, whether for a full meal or drinks with friends. I love the ambiance and upscale feel of the place. I love the many lights that give a somewhat majestic feel to the place. I enjoy the friendly and accommodating staff, delicious food, and mature and sophisticated guests. I recently enjoyed an intimate birthday dinner there with some friends and even met a celebrity; the father from the show "Smart Guy" John Marshall Jones!! It was an amazing evening. My friends were very happy with their experience and plan to return with their husband's and perhaps have their birthday dinners there as well. Excellent experience!!

The level of service and food has fallen compared to past visits. Bar service was friendly and quick. Table service was not so quick and enjoyable. We had multiple separate check-ins that did result in any orders or deliveries from the server who seemed to be buying time between tables, perhaps it was a staffing issue. Moving from the bar to the table service is also confusing because I was told the menu item I wanted from the bar could not be served at the table because if they let people do that everyone would order it. Didn't seem like that would be problem for a restaurant, but perhaps they are trying to keep prices a bit higher for table service. Server was not knowledgeable on wine, but the woman we did speak to about wine was very friendly and informative. Portions were ok, food was hit or miss in terms of interestingness. Cauliflower is still good, chocolate chip cookie recipe has changed. Prices seem to have increased and quality has decreased. Overall, I would come for the bar and the fancy space, but would probably skip table service.

We were excited to try this newer place. The ambience was great. Service was good too. The food was unfortunately a total let down. The salad was okay; the pasta was undercooked and tasteless (no seasonings!) and the ratatouille (vegan) was a good looking layered concoction (good idea) but the execution was awful … greasy and absolutely no salt and no taste. We let us hostess know about the ratatouille and she took it off our check which was a nice gesture. No apologies from the chef or anything like that. We will not be coming back here.

Cool layout of the retired fire house. Service was poor, and surrounding patrons that arrived after us had their food out 30+ minutes before we received our food. Food was average and was warm when received. Delicious dessert slathered with at the table pored chocolate sauce.

Great service! Our appetizers and dinners were outstanding. We had been wanting to try Apparatus Room for many years now and we are so glad we finally did. It was better than expected. Highly recommend!

I really loved the food here. Reservations are required. I ordered everything the server suggested and I had one of the best meals I have ever tasted. Great drinks, amazing food, great desert, friendly staff, good music and a relaxing atmosphere. This may be my new favorite restaurant.

Really nice spot! The food and drinks were really good. I enjoyed the location and the chicken sandwich was fire! I would def recommend this place. My 2 year old son enjoyed the spot . The ascetic and food were top tier.

Good food and good drinks and an even better staff. My wife and I had dinner plans fall through elsewhere and decided to come check this place out. It did not disappoint considering we’ve heard a lot about it. My only non-positive things to say is our fries were very salty which seemed to have been an accident, and we heard so much about a tasting menu but unfortunately they were not offering it when we came in. All in all definitely would recommend.

Wonderful restaurant and bar. Great food and drinks. The service is a bit slow, when the place is busy (although there was still room for more people). Still I can't take the 5th star, as quality and ambience make up for it.

Totally fantastic in every way. We have visited too many Detroit restaurants to count, and this ranks as one of the favorites. Wonderful atmosphere - with tons of character. Great menu selection and drinks, and both food and cocktails did not disappoint. I had the scallops, with a light curry sauce - some of the best I have had. The special cocktail was a Patagonia Sour - similar to a Pisco Sour - and very enjoyable. Service also could not have been better. Cannot wait to return, and HIGHLY recommend.

The atmosphere was lovely. Service was good. We did a group chef prix fixed meal at $60 each with a specification that there was a seafood allergy in our party. Seafood was served with each course nonetheless. Crab, oysters, salmon. Salmon main was undercooked to the taste of those who could eat it. Food quantity was sparse for the price paid. Still a memorable evening.

Everything was great besides the steak I got. It was extremely fatty for a strip. Almost have of the width was fat at some points. The deviled eggs were the highlight for me, very smooth and unique flavors.

Great food, ambiance, and waiter! Valet parking for $20 up to 4 hours. I highly recommend this place. Very different than your everyday restaurants. I stuck with the pasta to be on the safe side.Enjoyed every moment! Very nice place to spend our anniversary.

Interesting restaurant with unique menu options and a comfortable vibe. Service was great it took me a few minutes to decide what I wanted I ended up deciding on the half chicken and cabbage which was amazing I'd recommend it and the restaurant. My bill was 71$ with a tip and I will be returning at a later date.

I loved EVERYTHING about this place!! My husband and I did the chefs 8 course dinner for my birthday and it was incredible. Our server, Lauren, was great too! I’m already dying to go back.

What an incredible dinner date. In town visiting and decided to try The Apparatus Room. Looked full but was able to score comfortable seating for two right near the chef’s busy area. Watched dishes prepared and was cool to see how the kitchen flowed. Our server Shelby was incredible. Knowledgeable on the menu and drinks. We picked a delicious red wine to pair with our pasta dishes that were full of flavor. Pushed ourselves for a dessert, a cheesecake with rye crumble with a pomegranate sorbet, a perfect ending to our meal. Everything was a treat for the eyes first and quickly followed by amazing flavors. We will for sure return! Thank you Shelby for excellent service and a memorable evening in Detroit! Highly recommend this beautiful unique restaurant.

Love the apparatus room! I would highly recommend this spot, especially if you are looking for a good date night for a younger couple. I'm always impressed with the flavor profiles of the food, I always discover something I would never thought of myself. Secondly, the service is always amazing here. The servers are always friendly and attentive to detail, even if you have a good allergy. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It brings forth the most trendy elements in design right now. Definitely sets an ambiance I have never seen, even as far as trendy cities like Austin can provide. Would highly recommend for an upscale date spot in the area.

We’ve celebrated our anniversary here. First - they gave us a beautiful isolated table. Second - they treated us with a complimentary champagne. Wow. So touched by these small gestures. The food was absolutely stunning. I wish our sourdough bread was warm, but that’s already me being very picky :) Thank you for this amazing experience

The location reminds me of a nice gentlemen lounge With high back chairs and velvet. The drinks were not good. The milky cognac drink. We ordered the salmon devil eggs, they were ok. The whitefish dip is nasty( too much mayo or whatever). The beef was fatty and dry and the salads were basic. Go for the atmosphere or to take pictures but the food is a hard pass.

  • 4/5 K R. 1 year ago on Google
Go for the atmosphere not the food. Was not impressed with the food at all. I ordered the half roasted chicken, and it was dry and flavorless. The mushroom latte (soup) is very bland. The side of crispy potatoes were also bland but did have a touch of sauce that has a small amount of spice. The midnight rum drink is not sweet and tastes just like Jamaican rum but not much else. The chocolate was good on the cream puff for dessert but it was harder than it should be. Reservations are highly recommended. The atmosphere is lively and fun.

My husband and I went on a double date here and since we are foodies we thought we'd try our first blind meal! We paid a flat price of $150 (per person I believe) and were given a variety of items on the menu along with some off the menu items. Some of the pictures below are: raw oyster with tomato juice and sun choke (stunning), devilled eggs (flavourful), salad with a tarragon dressing and fennel, sunflower tomato fennel salad, two pastas, crispy salmon (disappointed we only had three small pieces instead of four - we definitely paid the price to cover our portion), shishito peppers, a large fish tail (can't recall the fish, oops) and a chocolate cake with berry compote and fresh fruit. We enjoyed every dish but as we are big eaters we were all a bit hungry afterwards. We love the harvest fresh menu but all four of us are not fennel lovers so the salads fell a bit flat as there is no overpowering the taste of freshly picked fennel. Overall, a fun experience and would be up for it another time! 3.5 stars.

Go here for flavor not fullness. All of the food we ordered tasted delicious and unique, but it is a small plate restaurant. Excellent atmosphere and very kind staff so it's great for a taste experience!

Food is always outstanding. Drinks always perfect. Unfortunately the service does not match the consistency of the food and drink. The first two times I was there; the manager and the staff went above and beyond to make sure my guests were taken care of. We went on Thanksgiving day for brunch and our waitress was so inattentive, I had to remove our used plates and ask other waitresses for help with coffee and drinks.
