I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Elephant Room in Detroit, Michigan, and it pains me to say that it was one of the most disappointing restaurant visits I've ever had. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this establishment fell far short of my expectations. First and foremost, the service at Elephant Room was abysmal. The staff seemed completely disinterested and unmotivated to provide even basic courtesy. It took an exorbitant amount of time for anyone to acknowledge our presence, and once we were finally seated, the waitstaff seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves than attending to our needs. It was an uphill battle to get their attention whenever we needed something. Moving on to the food, the menu at Elephant Room boasted an array of enticing dishes, but unfortunately, the execution did not match the description. The food was bland and lacked any distinct flavor. It felt as though the kitchen was simply going through the motions without any passion or attention to detail. The portion sizes were underwhelming, leaving us feeling unsatisfied and disheartened. Overall, I strongly advise against dining at Elephant Room in Detroit, Michigan. From the lackluster service to the unremarkable food and disappointing atmosphere, this restaurant failed to deliver on every front. Save your money and explore other dining options in the area that offer a more satisfying experience.

This place has potential but it is currently lacking. Went here on a Saturday before a show. When the server came to get our drinks, he did not write them down and had to ask us three more times what we ordered. After our drinks came, they left our table and we had to flag them down to get our order taken (about 10 minutes later). We ordered hummus (pic below) and they gave us burnt bread to go with it. When we asked for more bread that was not burned, we basically got warm bread, and to our surprise we later figured out we were charged for it. The food came out in pieces. Members of our party were completely done eating before others even received theirs. The members that did not receive their food had ordered salads and when we finally asked if they were going to come out, since again, some of us were done eating, we were told they were waiting on a food order to come in, and that is why it took so long. The salads were ok but some of the chicken was burned and it was clear that they had used one chicken breast for all three dinner portion salads. My sister and I are gluten free and were super excited to try this place out and were super disappointed. The food could be great if the people preparing actually cared about presentation and timing. The biggest downfall for this place is the service, we were actually astounded on how bad it was. We also had a party of 7 and were charged gratuity, (which we are totally fine with and always make sure to tip on top of the usual 18%). When we received the check, we noticed they had already given themselves 20% gratuity, which is laughable with the service we received. If you read the reviews on this place, you can see this is an ongoing problem. We decided to give them a chance anyways and unfortunately learned our lesson.

Amazing food! The entire menu can be made gluten free, which was a huge treat. I ordered the fried fish po-boy, it was phenomenal! My husband and I visit New Orleans every year, and I must admit this was better than any po-boy I've had in NOLA. I can't wait to return!

The perch was underwhelming and the fries were cold. The staff were very friendly and helpful and a nice atmosphere. I expected much better for the prices. I gave this place another try and the shrimp po boy sandwich was delicious and ample.

I came here a little bit over a week ago and the hostess was amazing. I actually knew their hostess since she use to work for Roast, the steak house and she’s a outstanding person. Unfortunately I’m very saddened to see how she was being treated by a few of her male coworkers. She truly deserves better and I would not be coming back here. There was a guy sitting at the bar who I assume is the manager since he kept talking to everyone and giving orders. He always seem on edge and I can imagine the work environment whew!! The bar backs were amazing. I can’t remember the girl name but she is short, petite and have blonde hair, She was amazing also. Food here is okay, could have been better.

Fun place. We had a drink & shared a chicken sandwich w/fries. The chicken was delicious/tender. Cute decor. It is karaoke night and the singers are fantastic!

Drinks are sub-par for the price. Took 40 mins for an appetizer and the bartender was more concerned about her vacation with her “regulars” than she was about ensuring the people at the bar had full drinks or food. Typical overpriced low end bar that pretends to be classy. Find your local dive instead.

Stopped here before a concert at st Andrew's. First time here, drinks during happy hour are a good deal. Food is pretty good, really enjoyed the queso dip and also the chicken fingers were very good. They do take reservations but those were not needed on a Thursday night. Parking is either on the street or at one of the local lots. This is on the first floor and no stairs.

Between the food and the drinks, bartenders and staff, not to mention the gorgeous space - everything is awesome. Delicious mezcal margaritas. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend to all

Cool atmosphere, awesome staff, good drinks, and nice food! We enjoyed some margaritas and dinner before a concert at St Andrew's. They had an issue with the food orders being printed in the kitchen, but they were so sorry and kind about it, truly felt bad, and comped some things. Excellent customer service! And the French dip and perch dinner were excellent, despite only recently reopening the kitchen.

Great bar! We had a good time. Talk to some nice people! Took a minute to figure out what the egg 🥚 was for! 😂. Also, wasn't sure what shirts they were selling? 🤪

I have been to many establishments in downtown Detroit in recent years. I thought that I had the most hospitable moments in this beautiful city UNTIL I visited the Elephant Room. Kevin, Brit, and Jenn showed me the most unexpected, unsolicited, welcoming service, and experience that I didn’t think that I needed! I will definitely be back and hope that anyone who reads this review visits this establishment and experiences it in all its essence!

Good food. Had the shrimp PO boy sandwich. Way more fishy smelling than I am used to, But was still good. Not a huge food menu. Great draft beers. Awesome fresh juices for mixed drinks for true craft cocktails. Awesome staff. Cool place.

I've been here before and have enjoyed myself, today I brought three out of town guests and all were disappointed. The three margaritas were terrible, and I know my margaritas and tequila. I had three sips of mine, and could not make myself drink more. One lady had one sip and pushed it aside, the other one drank less than half and couldn't continue. We ordered chips and salsa along with cheese fries to hold us till our dinner reservations. The fries were decent,as were the chips;the salsa however was extremely sour and left pretty much untouched. Counting us four, there were a total of ten people in there, but the service was slow and lacking. I'll still give it another visit as I have had fun times there before,it's unfortunate that out of town first timers had such a bad first impression.

Nice atmosphere, but was disappointed with the food. Went there for an early dinner and ordered the Fresh Catch Dinner (market price was $35), which was basically fish (perch) and chips, served with slaw and a house tartar. However, when the meal was served, it didn’t arrive with slaw or tartar. Was told that they were out of tartar sauce, but could provide ranch dressing. If $35 fish and chips served with ranch sounds good, this is your place!

The food was good but cold. Not even warm, just cold. It was good the next day after I warmed it up. The service was horrible. We tried to grab eye contact to hold up the church finger (pointer finger) for service with no success. The server got a whole attitude because I said excuse me Sir as he walked by to get his attention. I didn't know "excuse me Sir" could invoke such rage. We reported the issue and someone else waited on our table after that person was great. The atmosphere was beautiful.

We wound up getting the best street parking there at the beginning and the end of Movement festival. We made so many magical connections with new friemily. I had the chicken Monte Cristo for brunch and then danced at the patio, thank you staff for the love you gave us!!!

Standard small bar that's clean and has reasonable prices. They have a standard selection of beer and liquor, and I didn't order any food. The service was very attentive, the music selection was good, and the volume was kept low enough that we could converse freely. There were plenty of seats available when we arrived and my only complaint is that I would have liked some more local options to drink.

9/2/23: Not bad. Came during the jazz festival for a bite to eat. Got a bacon cheeseburger, some chili fries, and a drink. The burger itself was solid, but I didn't care too much for the bread. Everything in this establishment is gluten-free, and, as someone who never had gluten-free bread, I naively thought it would taste similar enough, but I was wrong. Chili fries were great though. I also got a drink... I think a gin cranberry. It tasted a bit watered down because soda water was used, but since it was custom made, and not something on the menu, I'm not holding it against the bartender or the rating. He tried to ask how to make it right and did try to help by adding extra components, but it only marginally improved the drink, so I at least appreciate the effort. Didn't cost that much anyway, so no big deal. Service was attentive enough, though not really personable. Then again it was kinda busy, so that's to be expected.

Just checked out The Elephant Room for the first time. Gotta say, the food took a bit too long and wasn’t up to par. On the bright side, the drinks were a hit. I was on the fence about 3 stars, but the friendly and understanding staff, along with responsive management, bumped it up to a solid 4 stars.

Super cozy spot. The food was for a big group, and it was incredible! I wish I'd taken more of the brussels sprout/potato dish... It was delicious.

We were the first party there, people came well after us and ate before us. This was our first time being here and will not be back bad experience for my birthday dinner, we left just to go and stop somewhere else for food omg the people that did get there food had to keep sending it back and still charge gratuity for bad service no accommodations what do ever

Service was fantastic however I was not impressed with their crafted drinks. The food menu could use a little work. The shrimp was not a delightful as I’d hoped. I would definitely visit again to give a second chance. The staff was friendly.

I’m not usually one to write reviews, but for this place I just HAD to. From the moment we walked in, all of the staff was INCREDIBLE! They were all so nice and welcoming and made sure you were enjoying your time. I cannot recommend this place more. If you’re looking for a cute bar to go to on a night out, THIS IS IT!

Service was very nice, one waitress was super nice, the other just doing her job. However, if food is a big deal when it comes to your bar nights, I do not recommend the food aspect of this establishment. Drinks great, service great, food taste as expected for a bar but price of food not. Lastly, very nice ambience and vibe to the place. Quiet and intimate.

I walked a mile to get here for food just to find out their kitchen was closed two hours before closing. What is up with Restaurants with great food closing so early? Plus the bartenders were so chatty that took them a long time to address me and then come back to take my order

I went here with my girlfriend because she has a gluten intolerance. Something happened with their cooler and we had to wait just a little longer but they complimented us with 20% off of our bill and they gave us free hummus we got to meet the owner everybody in the staff constantly checked on us and make sure we were doing okay. This has got to be one of the best places to eat in Detroit. It's honestly some of the best food I've ever had. You can't go wrong with the French dip.

Wonderfully run GLUTEN-FREE offering restaurant! Very careful as the owner is Celiac. We had a French Dip with a gluten-free bun and the au jus was delicious! It was served with homemade root vegetable chips. We also ordered French fries. Yum!
