Quite an experience. The food was very good but could have been a little bit warmer. Granted, they were extremely busy. The service was excellent. Alice did a wonderful job. My only real complaint would be that the noise level was unbearable at certain points. It eventually subsided, and normal conversation resumed. I realize that is the nature of such an establishment.

This place was extremely fun! I went here for a private work party and it was a fantastic experience. Everything from the rich history to the traditional German sing along to the amazing staff really made it special. Location is not the best part of town but I felt safe and the parking lot was secure. This place was really something special and I will definitely be back.

The atmosphere and feel of this place just canโ€™t be beat. Excellent German beers on draft and the potato pancakes and spatzle were spot on. The schnitzel was a little bit of a let down. Iโ€™ll be back to try some more.

Great authentic German pub in Detroit. Kurtz family owned for last 82yrs (Third generation). Always fun time! Great German food and beer. Pick anything on the menu... You won't be disappointed. Friday's & Saturday nights are especially fun with live musicians on 80yr old piano and bar sing a long. Reminds me of pubs in Europe, everyone will become friends by the end of the night. Give it a try you'll be happy you did. Reservation are recommended if your party is more than 2, but I usually can find a seat. There is a gated/patrolled lot for the restaurant...don't park on the street. The place fills up for the night by 7:30pm.

Food yes beer yes but 1933 yes !!! Karl and his family have captured time it self in a very unique way. The pub has 1933 all around it And the food over the top. German beer is the norm and then the dinning experience is completed. You will not find this experience very often. We had family of 7 all were laughing and having a great time .For a brief moment we were not thinking of all that this world has churned up lately but were experiencing a different time and place .Well we will be back . The beer was great and the food was as well. Fun was our experience it was great!!!

The atmosphere is great; the place feels very warm and lovely. If you are thinking about going here, just do it, you will like the place, the atmosphere and the beer. I would say that this is a very good place to have a beer and good moment with friends, the food is good but not spectacular, maybe it's just me that I'm used to other kinds of food.

Such a fun place filled with pure joy and people there just to have a good time. Sing-along is great. Traditional German menu, and the food is really good. My service was outstanding and Rhonda was my server. Thank you for a wonderful time once again.

The Dakota Inn Rathskeller is a landmark destination in Detroit. Though the surrounding neighborhood is very run down now the building has been kept up beautifully both inside and out. The decor is traditional German hunting lodge, and the richly paneled wooden interior, along with bricked archways and colorful wall murals, exudes warmth and welcome. The atmosphere is raucous and fun, with patrons dancing and singing along to live music, some of them wearing genuine lederhosen and dirndl. The beer selection includes German and American brews on draught as well as bottled selections, and although we did not eat, the wurst, schnitzel, and potato pancakes others were enjoying looked and smelled delicious. A visit to The Dakota Inn will leave you feeling as though you've taken a mini vacation to Babaria and enjoyed yourself immensely. -$5.00 cover charge cash only-

Went back here when I visited Detroit recently...been many times growing up nearby as well. Irony...I was there the night the Berlin Wall came down in Nov '89. 5 stars for the ambience and just the physical authenticity of the place...truly a rare find. I don't even know of a place like this in Chicago, New York or Philly. Menu is antiquated and the food is mediocre....that said, people don't really go there for that.

Dakota Inn is a classic neighborhood German restaurant. Step in with a group of friends to listen to the piano on the weekend or sit alone at the bar where the bartender will immediately introduce you to the regulars who will ensure you don't eat or drink alone. One more wonderful Detroit tradition with classic #DetroitFriendly staff and patrons.

Pretty disappointing food but nice atmosphere and the piano player was a lot of fun. Not worth going back, though, with the food as it is. The sauerbraten was well overcooked with gravy dumped on, not marinated. The jaegerschnitzel was tough and flavorless, and the mushroom sauce tasted like it came from a came--pretty sure I didn't see any mushrooms in there. The mashed potatoes were like chalk, too. And there was something in the gravy that tasted...sweet? Like molasses? Reminded me of a gingerbread house which is a weird combination with a dry roast. I'm befuddled. I can't imagine why this place gets so many good reviews. The food was also very slow--it came fifty minutes after ordering.

Good beer, good food, and friendly service. The place is an old gem. The music is fun too. Highly recommended stop for German food.

Love the food and the beer. They have nice fresh pretzels too. If you go during Octoberfest, the music is loud and it's hard to hear anyone talk around your table. If you're going just for the atmosphere and the music, it's great. They have four Octoberfest beers on tap, and that's hard to argue with.

The Dakota Inn provided a great night out!! Many people recommended we try it out and we liked it. It is a long drive, but good German food is scarce in the area. I was a little disappointed because it is Christmas time, and so the sing-along time wasn't traditional German drinking music. Food was good, service good...beer was gooooooood!

I liked it, I've been there before. Traditional American version of German food. It was cooked right and tasted right. My wife and I lived in Germany some years ago and I can honestly say we never had a bad meal anywhere in Germany. The only criticism I have for the Dakota Inn, is it's time to modernize the menu.

I have great memories of my family having dinners here over the decades. We celebrated my Dad's birthday here many times and Karl keeps the authenticity of the wonderful German heritage alive in this great place. I come here to refresh my own German roots. Thank you Karl and staff for keeping the Dakota Inn going strong. Looking forward to more beer and German songs.
