This was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had, in any city! Jose's Tacos is a tiny little hole in the wall restaurant down a side street in Downtown Detroit - blink and you might miss it! There are take-out and dine-in options available, with a few tables both inside and outside the front entrance. It definitely seems to be a family-run place with a lot of pride in their food. We were lucky enough to stumble across this gem when looking at reviews of Mexican restaurants in the city. It was a close walk (about 10 minutes) from our hotel, the GM Renaissance Centre. They have an extensive menu with Mexican favourites, as well as full breakfast options, and they open early (9 a.m.)! We wanted an afternoon 'snack' so opted for the tacos with fried corn tortilla shells (beef, fish and chicken). They also had other hard and soft shell flour and corn tortilla options, as well as both fried and non-fried. The meat was so juicy and flavourful and the veggies were very fresh and tasty! They were not overly stuffed, but I found the amount of food to be filling enough. You can get up to three toppings, or pay an additional .25 for extra toppings. We also tried the house-made pineapple water and wow - it was absolutely outstanding! There were small pieces of fresh pineapple and it tasted like an amped up version of pineapple juice So refreshing on a hot and humid day. We loved it so much we came back with friends before our flight left the next day. We opted to try a smothered burrito plate, regular burrito plate, enchilada/taco/tamale plate and a breakfast. The plates all came with refried beans (so creamy and flavourful) as well as Mexican rice (perfectly cooked). It was my first tamale, and I thought it was quite moist and delicious. The enchilada, tacos and burritos were all so tasty and perfectly cooked. The breakfast was also great! We found the portions to be the perfect amount of food. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable- they were very happy to help with the menu and offer suggestions. 10 out of 10 recommend for a great Mexican food experience!

I have died and gone to heaven. This is one of the best tacos platters I have had an ages. If God lets people into heaven by how good the cooking is, these people will have a front row seat. Surely Angels become humans and eat here. I had the chicken taco special with a crispy flour tortilla. Absolutely insane how good this is! Be sure to ask for the cucumber salsa. It's a thing of beauty. Thank you to the fine staff who worked on Friday September 4th. You made my life!

Was in town for a business trip and found this little gem near my hotel room. 3 tacos and a drink for 8 bucks. All 3 were absolutely delicious. Food came out fast and the lady taking orders was very nice. Recommend the crispy tacos on white, absolutely delicious. Will definitely be going back before I leave!

Perfectly average tacos. Got the carne asada on soft corn and they were alright. Hot salsa didn't have much flavor. The beans and rice seemed pre-made.

I LOVE their Tacos!!! The service is awesome too. The only reason that I took a star off is because of the parking. It can be REALLY Hard sometimes, but not bad enough that I won't still come here or the other location (it's a little farther but the parking is better) to get my Tacos 😁

The tacos were pretty good, I wouldn't return and eat here again. The service was just okay - the young lady taking our order seemed very annoyed. After we placed our order, she closed and locked the door when it was hours earlier than the time posted on the door. We had to knock and wait to pick up our order when it was finally ready. I wouldn't return again.

My friend and I stopped here on our way to the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit a block away because we were hungry and didn’t have a lot of time. What an incredible surprise! The staff was friendly, the food was ready pretty quickly and the best part is the food was delicious. My friend had the wet burrito and I had a half order of nachos which was still a large portion. We highly recommend this place. I only live a half hour away in the suburbs and I’m very tempted to drive out there again just to eat there.

This was my first time trying this place. I had the birria quesadillas. They were extremely tasty! 😋 Nothing fancy about the looks, but they were so delicious that looks didn't matter. I loved their Birria consome. It was well seasoned and full of flavor! 'd recommend them.

I've been eating at Jose's for over a year since I work up the street. Usually it's perfection! However lately it has been absolutely terrible. I'm over giving them chances. Everything has went way down. The customer service. Quality of food. Most importantly the cleanliness inside. Just save yourself the trouble and go to another location!!!

First time I’ve been here, it was great! The wait was long because this is clearly a hot spot, so if you can order ahead, I’d advise doing so! Small place so it gets packed while ppl wait during lunch time. Food was def worth it.

The food was amazing. We parked across the street and walked around for over and hour looking for something to eat and were drawn back to Jose's Tacos. Authentic. Great price. And Diana was an amazing hostess and waitress. 5 stars all the way. We will definitely be back.

Great little taco place. Not must seating, so don't expect a full blown restaurant experience. This is definitely more of a take out kind of place. The loaded fries were incredible. The steak on them was seasoned perfectly, and there was some seasoning added to the cheese sauce that tasted incredible. Maybe chipotle or adobo? Not sure really. The crunchy flour shells were cooked perfectly. They were unfortunately out of corn shells, which made ordering gluten free a bit more difficult, but the fajitas without shells was perfect for her.

My favorite, affordable lunch spot in downtown Detroit. Tacos and burritos are great, and the staff is super friendly. If you pay cash, you can get a frequent-visitor card for discounts!

I tried this place for the first time last week, and the tacos and salsa were the most delicious tacos I’ve ever tasted. However, on today, the meat was bland, greasy and the shells came from a box as opposed to homemade like they were on last week. I don’t think I will return.

Charming little spot for Mexican food in downtown Detroit. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Got the combo with mini chimichanga, enchilada and soft taco - delicious and fresh. Recommended!

We went a half hour before closing, on a Saturday. They were super friendly and answered all the questions we had on the menu. Everything was delicious my favorite dish was the steak and shrimp fajitas. The tacos and burritos were awesome as well. I will be back for carryout.

The Food Is Delicious!! Laura, Lesley and the cooks in the kitchen took excellent care of us!! It was a lunch rush and they made sure we were all taken care of. The tacos were prepared to perfection!! Our orders were accurate!!! I would definitely return and tell my friends to come. This was a wonderful experience!!! Thank you so much for making our day that much more awesome!!!

Best tacos I've had in a long while! Watermelon agua fresca hit the spot on such a hot day, too.

Got the special on the board, Jose's Tacos and they were delicious. Nice, small little spot in downtown. I will definitely try again when I am in town.

The ONLY Mexican restaurant I go to 😋. A little pricey, But I promise you it's well worth every dime. Their Watermelon and strawberries lemonade is so delicious, I could buy it by the gallon. I've tried just about Everything there and I can't remember to take pictures because once I open the box and taste my food. Game over!! Its gone. Hope you'll enjoy it just as much as I do.

I have only been to Jose's Tacos a few times but every time I have been there, the staff have been very friendly and helpful. They help answer any questions I have on the menu. The food always of great quality. It is easy to past by this place as it is pretty small and off to the side (downtown Detroit location). They deserve more recognition.
